MX5 Miata Top Drain Cleaning | Stop Wet Interiors and Prevent Rust!

  • Today I show you how to clean your Mazda MX-5 Miata's top and sill drains. These drains often clog up and prevent water from properly draining, leading to a wet interior, water in your floors and other problems. Clogged roof drains may make you think you have a leaky top, but it is often the drains themselves. This video shows you how to locate and clear them, as well as test the drains to ensure they're properly flowing water. No special tools needed to clear your Miata drains!

    So awesome, never knew there was a propper way to clean down there. Also make sure to clean out your front fenders for leaves and dirt too. It only takes about 30 minutes total, and on both of my miatas, it looked like they had never been cleaned out in all 30 years!

    I use a trombone (yes, the musical instrument) cleaner to clean my drains. It’s very effective, and under ten bucks.

      That's awesome.... I assume you play?? You should probably clarify that what you're using is actually called a "snake". I'm a trumpet player and also a home brewer.... I use the trumpet snake to clean out brewing lines. I'll check them both out when I help my son work on his '95 Miata.

      I filmed it this way for a reason! This way you can actually see what you need to do. It's much harder to film with the top in place

    What I Like to use to keep the rain rail drains clear and flowing is a special brush. Search for a trombone brush. Yes, the musical instrument. It's about 4 feet long with little brushes at both ends. Trombonists use it to clear out spit inside their brass trombones. Less than $10.

    jesus....thank god i live in california and my miata is from another state so it only has one cat......or get a hardtop because the way the hardtop is shaped, the rain flows past the rain rails is just goes onto the quarter panels

    Absolutely awesome! i bought an old Nbfl with the big engine, heavy waterdamage - lots of rust but luckily no mold.
    Problem is, I am not to sure about all the little rust parts on the car. For instance, my trunk has some spots at the closing mechanism, near the battery and underneath the spare tire. I polished the battery area or basically the whole inside of the trunk - also coated it with rust paint. But would you also polish the trunk hood, if there are a few spots? Also, would you, after painting everything with rust paint, go over with normal primer and paint it again or just leave it as it is? Great video!

    Ok so, Ive had the whole passanger side full of water today after a heavy night of rain. Turns out this was my problem and i cleaned them. But now after i dried everything in the cabin there still seems to be water sloshing around somewhere in some bodywork. When it overflows where would the water go? There is none left in the cabin i pulled the carpets and its now dry as can be but i can very cleary hear water sloshing somewhere. Can somebody maybe give me a tip?

    • @CashedOutCars
      @CashedOutCars  2 года назад

      Although it’s likely unrelated to your initial problem, have you checked the trunk?

    • @fastsalad9428
      @fastsalad9428 2 года назад +1

      @@CashedOutCars Yes i have the Trunk was dry. I since found the drains for the sideskirts turns out the water flows in there through a hole in the cabin once the cabin runs full. For anyone wondering the drains are actually on the part where you can lift the car. There are some holes in the lip that actually look like the lip is broken, wich are easely clogged.
