As a person who hasn't really kept up with the monitor market, feels like monitor technology has absolutely skyrocketed in a small time. Awesome vid always.
I know it seems that way, but we've had massive OLED panels with 120Hz refresh rates for several years in the TV space. This is just the market responding to the increased demand for high-end monitors in the PC/gaming space.
because PC monitor market was stagnant for a very long time, hell even midrange smartphones from 6+ years ago had OLED screens
Oled tvs have been a thing for years, people have just been waiting for them to hit the monitor market but since tvs are more profitable than gaming monitors it takes time.
My IPS is shit when it's nighttime in DayZ, i wish i had a OLED....

@@nickzick2372 honestly, I don't understand why we have 200$ smartphones with OLED screens (yeah, maybe colors here not that good as on iPhones or Samsung S series, but it anyway better than any IPS), but PC OLED monitors prices starts at $900, where PPI 4-5 times less than on phone's ones

@@perspectiveandthinking4k and UHD are the same descriptor. Ultra High Definition was literally designed to be the "mainstream" term for 4k resolution panels.
Also, the bleeding edge is ALWAYS a bad value for the money. But you don't make progress and make cheaper versions of the better things without first making the better things.
Plus, plenty of people can tell a difference between 1440p and 4k at 32 inches. I could probably easily do it, given I'm incredibly used to my 1440p panels.

You are wrong on that account too about UHD. UHD encompasses both 4k and 8k tech. UHD was also originally introduced alongside the rise of 4k TVs, so yes, you don't know what you're talking about. Nowhere did I say that 8k was practical or meaningful.

Came here to see if this would be mentioned and very glad it is. I'm tired of Monitors Unboxed not emphasizing this as much as I think they should.
I use qd-oled for work and I did not notice it until I looked for it after watching a youtube video. It's a non issue at 4k really.

Also, I own an OLED panel, and it does not bother me in the slightest not to mention the fact that you shouldn't have static elements on screen for extended periods of time to say nothing of how text rendering on an OLED is like city driving for a Bugatti.
I had a 32" 1080p monitor that I used for years. I could see literally see the individual pixels. It was fine at the time, but going from that to a 27" 1440p monitor was life changing
currently using a 27" LG 1080p 240hz monitor. color is good, but my god the pixel density is abysmal
I've been on 144p for so long now. (4K for console) and I can't imagine how bad 1080p is now but I know it will be a muddy mess lol. I still think 1440p for 27" is PERFECT
i have a 15 inch laptop with a 1080p screen, honestly dont love the pixel density with it but with a 1070 (best value at the time) i figured it could run games at 1080p144 better than it could do 4k60. still waiting on my replacement laptop the framework 16

I don't think you have any data to back that up. Based on comments left all over the internet, I'm sure that's the same thing for every online community though, people seem to take pride in it.

32inch at 4k is actually one of the perfect monitor size for me, the reason why it took me this long to get one (I got the MSI version of this same panel) is that there isn't any good option that don't compromised in one way or another, its either 1440p high refresh, 4k at 60hz or 4k high refresh with poor contrast/IPS glow/black light bleed, there are MiniLed version of the same spec but a lot of them don't tune LD well or cost a fortune(3k usd and up). Honestly I really glad that OLED 32inch 4k 240hz is a thing, its great and pretty much perfect for me.

So awesome to see these monitors finally releasing. I'll wait for matte 480Hz mode model myself. Really the only missing good to have would be DP2.1 and max Hz BFI and VRR with it.
Ah thanks, no-one seem to pick the fact that it's DP 1.4, which will NEVER be enough for 4K 240 Hz HDR 10 bit, even with DSC.

@@keijidan2276 HDMI 2.1 4K HDR max theoretical bandwidth with VRR support is 144Hz, I have no idea how this monitor is going to achieve 240 Hz without either seriously reducing the resolution (example 1440p) or color depth (SDR 8 bit).
Edit: apparently DSC is sufficient to reach it, mmm... I still kind of don't trust it but maybe I should.
Definitely a dream monitor for many. I currently have a 4K60 32" VA Acer panel. Got it for a screaming deal in late 2020 for $349 CAD. Looking to upgrade in a few years.
I definitely prefer the semi-gloss just because the colors pop out and aren't "washed out" a bit due to the anti-glare coating and unless you're playing with direct sunlight or some super bright conditions, the semi-gloss looks so much better. Even looking back at the first monitor I've bought, which was an Acer 60hz 1080P IPS panel that was glossy, the colors look soo good and I kinda miss that after using matte displays for the last 2-3 monitors I've purchased.

I cannot wait to see these OLED monitors become more affordable, right now they are outside of the general publics reach due to obscene costs.
But that doesn't mean the tech or the that the future isn't bright, it is, and so is OLED. It reminds me of the good old days of CRT. Gaming, production, all on same package... HDR... Some of the features have been left out on games because it didn't seem plausible to have it ever come to monitors for affordable price. Few years from now, and I can almost guarantee OLED monitors to be the norm, I hope the production is being ramped up. I wonder what BenQ is cooking with this lmao.
I think OLED will fall off the way side like plasma. Mostly because of the lifespan and burn in issues. I say this with an OLED TV.

@@georgejones5019 I got myself LG B2 55", I do love it, but the burn in is something I do worry about of... It definitely feels very... Not early stages anymore, but we have definitely not crossed yet the threshold where I'd say it's ready for mass manufacturing, definitely few revisions are in order. LG's panel technology is far better tho, I will have to say that. Burn in needs to be addressed either with better cooling solution, or there needs to be some way to replace, repair or... Have the burn in be completely eliminated.
@@georgejones5019 I think the anti burn in tech is good enough for that to not be an issue.
@@whiskytangofoxtrot_ A guy tested that with turning off his TV everytime it wasnt in use anymore - he recieved burn ins after just a single year. For long term use i would say Mini-LED or LCD with Local Dimming is better than OLED.

it's what i wanted 3 years ago. i had no choice but to buy a oled 48" tv. still plenty satisfied. the "brightness and glare issue" was resolved with blinds on my room. i now use the screen almost exclusively at 20% brightness. no need for more.

Just got the Alienware AW2725DF 360hz QD-OLED and been loving it. Thought about going 4K but for what I play 32 inches is slightly too big. Found it really hard to see everything on the screen and 27 inches has been the sweet spot for me. Maybe down the way Ill get one for single player games.

@@eh424 Yes it does. Just not on the official nvidia approved, but all you need to do is enable it in the nvidia control panel.
this is the monitor im buying. had my eye on it since early january. its sold out everywhere right now but im not gonna settle for a lesser 4k 240hz OLED, im waiting until i can buy this one. hopefully its no immediately out of stock for months...

@@ShiroNoFune the asus allows you to set it to 25inch 1080p or 27inch 1440p so you can still play fps games at high refresh rate. thats the main reason for buying the asus in my opinion. the alienware cant do that

I've been playing with a 240 Hz 1440p monitor for years and I barely noticed any difference going up from 120 Hz.
I'm sure some people will find use for it, but I don't think most people will.
I'm really looking forward to a comparison between this and the WOLED version releasing later this year. I really want the comparison to include emphasis on color accuracy and productivity work. Because for gaming, I dont think you can go wrong with either one of them.
I heard the WOLEDs are Matte panels, so that should already tell you they're going to be worse.
@@ShiroNoFune we:ve had matte panels for years. Stop jumping on the hate bandwagon. Yes. When conparing matte coating vs glossy, they are worse. But that doesnt mean bad. 10 years ago, gaming monitors were glossy, and gamers were angry at not getting anti gloss. Only premium photo panels got that and office panels.
My photomonitor fron 2011 is matte. My gaming monitor from 2017 is matte. Glossy is just the new buzzword as matte was back then.
And matte coatings today will most likely be much better than 5 years ago.
But again, glossy will be better for sure. But matte wont be bad.
@@Wistbacka What gaming monitors 10 years ago were glossy? The most popular monitor at that time was the Asus VG248 and all of its competitors were matte.
@@jaekimchi The cheap ones were. So back then the complaint among gamers was the opposite of now. Then gaming monitors became matte, and has been until now when OLED entered the chat and now everyone wants glossy again.

32" really is the new 27". I'm typically ahead of market trends and have many many hours behind top-end 4k monitors in formats of 42", 32" and 27". 32" really does seem to be the "last stop" for size. UNLESS you have a deep desk of at least 36" deep then maybe go bigger than 32. But for the majority of users 32" is the most you'll ever need. I just wish more 32" came with a small curve of at least 1500.
It's all personal preference. I much prefer 24" and am hanging out for a 24" OLED.

I was 24in 1080p 240hz gang and just recently started playing on a 27in 165hz 1440p IPS panel and I did not know what I was missing lol. I can only imagine OLED and higher resolutions.

@@lukiv3no there is also a 480 1440p monitor that was unveiled at CES. It will be the highest spec and resolution combination possible in any monitor. Don’t remember from which brand it was or when it will come out though

I use a 55" 4k TV for gaming. 120Hz is plenty fast enough for the type of games I play.

The quality of your vids is next level. You do such a good job, plus no sponsors! The direction of monitors is nothing but good for us, the monitor market has been stagnant for almost a decade and it's moving so rapidly now. I'm most excited for the 27" 1440p 480hz oled.
This year was finally the time I would consider upgrading my PG279Q since the only upgrade I would find interesting is if it was OLED and had a significant Hz increase.
Was unsure to decide between OLED 4K 240 or OLED 2K 360. I decided to go with the 2K 360 since I find 32 inch too big and mainly play competitive shooters. Also I personally don’t really care for 4K that much and prefer smoothness over resolution so 4K didn’t really make sense. Also my 3080 probably is better suited for 2K as well.
I ordered the Alienware AW2725DF as soon as it became available in my country (last Friday). I’ve only had the time yet to test it for about 2 hours, but I’m loving it so far.
The picture quality definitely is an upgrade and the jump from 165 to 360 Hz might not be as insane as 60 to 144, it’s definitely noticeable.
I remember your video where you tested the 540 Hz monitor and said “it felt like looking through a window”. That is exactly what I feel like using this monitor.
Anyway I’m excited to further test it and go back to some old games I enjoyed to see how it compares :)

Glossy screen is literally better than matte for me, there is no question of "matte is better because..." glossy doesn't restrict your perception of colors, it's more pop, sharper, it's more pleasing to the eye to focus the text, etc.
The important question is : how do you not see the difference between the two?

I don’t think Optimum is the type of guy who cares if the screen looks good or not. He prefers just more frames and performance over visuals. That’s why I think his brain is kinda rigged that he isn’t able to notice the difference between glossy or matte. He lacks the attention for detail.
only thing is if u have a game that is only 1080p maybe only then can you take advantage of high refresh , but i doubt that also since it will be an older game anyway.

What you were saying at 6:50 is true. It was already confirmed (by LG) that the WOLED panels with the feature to switch between 4K 240hz and 1080P 480hz WILL have an easy-to-implement cropping feature so you can set the screen size to 25", 27" and 32".
So, while I *really* like the semi-gloss and great Adobe RGB colors on the QD-OLED, I want to see the new WOLED in person first. Plus, waiting a few more months for the WOLED monitor releases would cause the QD-OLED monitors to be around $200 less in price as they will no longer be labeled as "the latest and greatest" in marketing terminology.
Why are none of these company's not looking into making 24inch 1440p High refresh IPS, OLED monitors. If you're someone like me, who sits less than 2ft away from my monitors, the last thing I'd want to upgrade to is a larger screen. For me even 27inch is ever so slightly on large side at that distance.

Optimum went pretty barebones with this review. I expected him to mention that you can change the aspect ratio in the OSD, in case you want 27'' or 24'' for e-sport titles.

This looks like it could be ultra Zorz but for almost twice the amount of the 34 inch wide which can DLDSR you’re only getting then 80 more hz. I need to try this to see what else it can do. As always Optimum I’m a fan!

Hey dude, just wanted to inform you that overwatch added DLSS3 in January, can u make some testing on 4k dlss off and on ? i think that it's a great video idea, espisially since overwatch is the first pvp shooter with dlss technology, we had a lot of tests of DLSS Tech. but all of these tests were about Open world/Story mode games, where it's hard to reach high fps i n game because of graphic.
Glossy screen is always a win for me. I had a glossy screen monitor one time and after I replaced it, I was confused as to why colors looked so bad. I didn’t realize that the glass screen made such a big difference.
I would be more interested in a dual mode 27" OLED, sadly this just isn't it. I'll wait for a 27" 4K OLED in the future. I am however interested in the soon to be released 480Hz 1440P OLED panel, I really hope they try to get BFI to work at 240Hz.
They added on this monitor "ASPECT RATIO CONTROL" so u can change it between 24.5” (esports mode) and 27” imagery, have u tried it? I'm waiting for 4k 240hz/1080p 480hz version :P
I've been waiting for 240hz OLED 4k monitors for almost 2 years now. Ever since I got my Samsung G9, I've known that this is basically the monitor I would be moving to next. For what these monitors are capable of, the $1,300 price point is surprisingly reasonable. Considering a 4090 will struggle to max this monitor out in some games, the price seems like a steal. Plus, with the amount of competition, and the fact that there are multiple alternatives that are $100 cheaper, I expect that the price will start dropping pretty quickly. I'm incredibly excited to pick one of these up. Or possibly one of the competing monitors. I'll wait for some more reviews and comparisons before finally upgrading.

Have been playing Battlefield 1 and the new Overwatch update too. Surprisingly sooo much fun, I am having a blast and getting friends on. Battlefield 1 actually still has a bit of a big player base on PC it's wild
BF1 still an awesome game to play. The last good BF
BF1 was pretty mediocre but I can't even play it anyway because of 1-2 servers in my region, banned from both due to badmins.

32" is just too big and 4k 240 hz is even with a 4090 at max settings with the least games possible.
27" 1440p is the way to go.
And if it is too small, move it closer! Then you have your 32".
I completely agree. 32'' is too big for gaming on a desk. 27'' is the maximum size for it to be ideal.
4K is kind of lame. Only good for 4K movies. Ironically, 240Hz on 4K actually looks worse than 240Hz on 2K, because since the pixels are smaller on 4K, the speed of things at that refresh rate don't travel physically as far in the same timeframe, making 4K at 240Hz actually less smooth because it has to skip more pixels for the pixel changes to travel the same distance. That's even if both screens are the same size, and it gets even worse if the 4K screen is even bigger than the 2K screen.

@@MrDutch1e but how ? Have you tested it? There are calculators and I have the Samsung g7 27“ and g8 32“ and took even a picture side by side, if I send it to you u cannot say which one is 27 & 32“
Calculators say 8cm, but I’ve measured only 6cm because with 8cm difference the 32“ looked smaller
27in is too small for 4k though, just stick to 1440 at that size

I've had 4 OLED screens, Samsung, LG and the latest is the 240hz 27-inch from Asus. One thing is constant with OLED screens: burn-in. It's literally the best screen technology in terms of color, fluidity, just OLED screens are extremely pleasant out of the box, but buying an OLED screen means buying a screen that will only last a few months, and that's the problem with tests that aren't done long enough over time. Burn-in is caused by a static image that lasts too long, and there are technologies included in the screens and techniques of use to avoid the problem, but they prove to be totally useless. The simple fact that game ATHs are static can cause the problem, and I've had it on literally every screen I've owned. I strongly advise against buying an OLED screen, I don't think these screens should even be named as GAMING. If you play several hours a day, your screens won't last long. I've since switched to a Samsung VA panel for solo gaming and a TN Zowie panel for competitive, I'm really disappointed with OLED screens I hope these problems will be solved one day.
If you're burning every OLED out you own in 3-4 months you'd literally have to be the unluckiest human being alive. A literal walking anomaly. I've got multiple OLED's, only a single one got burn in, and it was from a known generation of bad hardware, and was ironically, my least used panel. I've got WOLEDS now with 1000's of hours of gaming/windows mixed usage and no burn in. And shit, I don't even look after it.
@@rcdarkangel I was told a similar thing on Reddit, but I'm not the only one in this case even with the latest generation screens. It seems quite specific to heavy use, I play more than 12 hours a day.

@@zaryl2k Any OLED on a long enough time line will burn in. If you were to buy one, i'd not recommend you waste its life hours on work unless your super rich. I keep my OLED panels specifically for games, and I keep a regular ass LCD just for work and so far, that's done me really well. My 27" LG OLED for instance has 4000 hours and counting with no burn in.
Have been looking forward to this monitor since it was announced last August, I'll be hoping to get one as soon as it comes to Europe. Just ticks all the boxes for me

You have 3 years of warranty from pretty much any brand, so don't worry about it.

After all those years I still don't get why the size jump between a 27inch and 32in screen has to be that big.
I would really like to have a 29inch or 30inch screen. I tried 32inch but it's just to big for me (at least on the standard sized desk I am using).
I remember 10 years ago people had screen sizes 19inch, 20inch, 21inch, 22inch, 23inch,24inch... But since then not a single manufacturer has produced a 30inch monitor in 16:9!

my only thing about an OLED option was the less bright scenario which you cant really get around, oled is way better colours but you won't get real bright colours, I don't get why they are pushing monitors above 240Hz since the human eye cant even get 240hz. 144 hz is plenty enough also 0.3 ms, so the 480hz monitors are nothing but a gimmick imo. Im still using my awsome 27 inch PG27UQ hdr 144hz and really since my new setup im only just now making the most out of this monitor with my 4090 OC 13900KS CPU. For me yellows are a big deal and OLED is 2nd to none.

For those not liking the 1300 USD price tag - consider getting a 42" OLED TV. I did that as I didn't want to wait for those 32" 4K OLED monitors and I'm definitely not replacing it now, especially at those prices... My LG 42" C3 costed me like 900 USD with the delivery included, and the fact it is a TV comes with a bunch of benefits... the only drawback IMO is the 120Hz instead of 240Hz, but I'm personally fine with that.

Currently running a 240Hz BenQ XL 2456. The coulours really arent good but for Gaming its still great. I never felt the need to Upgrade until now. I feel like the PG32UCDM really has become the next Evolution of Gaming Monitors.

Good monitor at a decent price, however 200nits of brightness really doesn’t lend itself to great hdr quality. I still think the Pg32UQX hdr/nit brightness (1400) is still an unmatched experience, but with some definite trade offs that need to be considered.
Current gen GPUs can only play a few games effectively at 4K + 114hz+ ultra graphics. But nonetheless am thankful to see the leap and next gen gaming monitor technology.
This is what I have been saying for years and one of the 2 main reasons I won't be buying an OLED: The brightness during both SDR and HDR
Its 250 nits full-screen but hdr highlights peaks at 1000 nits brightness.

I love how oled is becoming mainstream in the monitor market which means maybe in 3-4 years we'd probably get a monitor that, while expensive, doesn't break bank like these. Also, technology gets better over time so we might get better revisions or generations of oled that might alleviate the cons of an oled screen. Also mini led technology is something I look forward to as well and maybe compete with oled but as of now it's technology is relatively young and is also expensive.
Still waiting on 24" OLED's though. Yawn..

As an esport lunatic with crappy eyesight who has gamed on 32" 1080p for the past 5+ years, the experience isn't bad for me. Being able to do both 480hz @ 1080p and 240hz @ 4k will be actual endgame for me. Only things to look forward to after this batch of monitors (4k 240hz oled 32" herd) is more brightness, better burn in protection.

I always thought Optimum was a man of culture, and playing BF1 in 2024 further confirms that.
I'd bet it looks utterly fantastic, but since I got screwed with an OLED TV that began to show signs of burn-in after only 2 years, I'm skeptical, esp considering QD-OLED is showing signs of early death already. Burn-in protections were built into my TV as well, but it didn't help.
Did you have any flickering with G-Sync enabled? Like in darker (gray) areas in games or other applications.
Did you have VRR flickering at all?
Are there any problems with the asus Rog Swift PG32UCDM?
I have the Alienware AW3225QF and it has G-Sync flickering in darker areas and loadingscreens.
Is there anyone who have the same problem with the AW monitor?
The Dell-Support wasn't really helpful and said I should ask the Nvidia-Support, I did that and they (Nvidia) have done everything possible to help, but the flickering is still there.
The Dell-Support said, it's no hardware-issue and an exchange is not possible.
So I'm going to return it, because I don't want to pay 1100 bucks for a monitor that can't do G-Sync without problems.
(G-Sync is important for me because it eliminates screentearing and it makes the games much smoother!)
So I'm thinking about buying the Asus one but I don't want to have the same issue...
