Pitch Correction only Using Ableton Live

  • In this video we correct the pitch of a bad vocal take using only Ableton Live: no autotune needed. By simply using Ableton's great "warp modes" and the "tuner" devices we can create convincing pitch corrections that are arguably better than the results one can get from expensive vsts like Autotune or Melodyne. Save your money and use your ears!

    Tip for anyone looking for the detune and transpose in Ableton 11.1 - They combined it into the Pitch knob - so transpose is tiny box on the left and detune is tiny box on the right side under the pitch knob. Hope this helps. Great vid thank you! This should help my shitty pitch get better hopefully xD

    If you think its hard to see which notes you're hitting with tuner (due to it jumping all over the place), toggle the graph mode instead so everything is drawn out over a time graph instead :)

    Excellent presentation. Unfortunately, raising the pitch of a flat note speeds up tempo; and lowering one that is sharp slows it down. A vocal track is thus put out of sync with accompanying instruments. So the method is useless. Or am I overlooking something?

    This is a great idea. Nevertheless auto tuners are dynamic processors, roughly it means it changes over time and relatively to the input. It detects the fluctuations of the pitch over time as it misses the desired pitch and corrects it. This method as it is most definitely does not replace auto tune. Great video anyway! Bravo

    What about editing in the clip envelope using automation? This would work for changes in pitch and volume, and would save you needing to split clips. However, you won't be able to change warp modes in this way. Also, for your longer notes I was thinking to try the in clip envelope using automation so you can draw in the pitch shifts to change over the sustained note.

    When you're done, you can select all the audio that was shifted, right-click, and consolidate into a finalized track to permanently bounce it back down and no longer spend cpu warping.

    • @mattstaffwork1019
      @mattstaffwork1019 4 года назад

      I don't think so once you consolidate it the files will have the same warp settings and you will get those weird double voice moments, so rather cmd E edit them and leave them in the track line then select everything and freeze the whole track line and then flatten it to save edits and consolidate the audio so you save on cpu. i would do that ?

    • @Technocosm
      @Technocosm 4 года назад

      @@mattstaffwork1019 All I know is in the latest 10.1, when I consolidate, it essentially does the freeze/flatten activity. You do have to switch from 'beats' back to 'complex' as the warp mode is the only thing I've had too do. I just finished a track with a set of vocal comps where I did this to adjust timing (not pitch) and it worked perfectly. Perhaps there are some cases where it doesn't -- but I've not had any trouble with this method. Duplicate a track of adjustments and try it!
