Clearly... they promote a lot of new stuff from live 11 but I'm pretty sure a lot of people (including me) just understimate the power of these fx plugs.
I can't believe the stock effects can sound so good when you know what you're doing. I always used some plugins to handle this, but plugins are annoying in general. This is so elegant. Thank you so much for putting this together.
This is what I think! I started my adverture at eletronic music making in Abelton and have something in mind: Just search for plug-ins if it's hard or not possible to do with stock plug-ins. Btw. It's been helping me to learn sound design, I can figure it out what each fx, config does to each sound, opening me paths to construct unique sounds
Hands down one of the best and most comprehensive guitar tone videos out there. Definitely subscribing. Thank you so much for providing the racks as well.
I just gave up on using Ableton effects the other day and mic’ed my amp. Now, after watching this I realize my approach was ALL wrong! Thank you so much for this, so much valuable info!
Great video! I've always thought Live's guitar effects were overlooked. An additional tip: you can place effects between the amp and cab to replicate the send/return feature of some amps, series/parallel/dry-wet/whatever. I like to place modulation and time-based things in there, and then do as you did with a room reverb but with M4L Convolution Reverb. Great for guitar, just alright for bass. However, you can make some cool bass rigs though by combining the bass amp/cab and a couple guitar amps/cabs all in parallel.
Thank you!! That's amazing... I've been using AL for 4/5 years and I always relied on VSTs to rock my guitars. I've learned a lot about how to get a great tone but this one was missing and is a lifesaver when you don't have your favorite plugin. Amazing tones!
@@AndreaBedoya Very strange how paths cross don't you think, I clicked on this video expecting to create some digital guitars I can mess up to layer over some techno but realised it was not what I was thinking. Then I noticed you saying check out my last techno samba preview...that got me more interested because I thought this person is thinking what I'm thinking. Then I find your live jams, fantastic. Where can I find more of your music, please? You got stuff out?
Ah haa found you on Soundcloud. I'm reaching out to people I like the sound of. Me and my friend are about to release an album just after xmas, we are working on it now. We decided to release it on our own label and we are reaching out to people we like the sound of to make friends and maybe work together in some way in the future if they like what we are doing. Our stuff is a little tougher but we like your vibes, thank you. Would love to do a remix of Canela for you :)
You're a legend bro. Way to break this down like you did without the mindless blabbering some of these RUclipsrs do. I honestly didn't realize you can get such fantastic tones in Ableton without an entire rig. Talk about a true "ampless" setup. Thanks for this priceless knowledge!
Recently blew the dust from one of my old guitars and fixed it up after so many years. Looking at Ableton other than an electronic music machine is so refreshing, amazing video.
In 2012 this guys band blew my mind, didn't think a decade later i'd be taking a course on ableton in my home studio from one of the creative genuises behind Papadosio!
You took Ableton Guitar fx to the next level. Among guitar communities Ableton guitar effects are meh but now I can say you can get some pretty good sounds. Another of your unmatchable quality is you 'define' 'why'. That's not many do while making videos. I am coming from Studio One daw and completely newbie finding hard to understand Live's workflow. This move is because I just got Novation SL61 mk3 which is dawless version of Ableton and a dawless setup (with daw) suits my workflow. I also have few outboard synths that I can control using this keyboard. Hope to find more interesting videos on your channel. Keep going.
After getting to 27:30 where you discuss Envelope Follower and Autowah was just looking through the Ableton docs and realised they're both using the Auto Filter effect. Had me stumped for a couple of minutes there!
this sounds pretty good ! I don't know why I didn't even know there were cabinets in Live, I only tried the amps a few times and was disappointed lol. I'll have to try this, even if I'm still probably gonna spend 260$ on NI guitar rig 6 and 4000$ on a real guitar amp. But it's nice to have different tones, and also I guess the live racks are super cpu friendly
This video has been a tremendous help for me. I am recording guitars for my ep and some of your tips have made a huge change in my tone. Thanks a ton, you really have made a difference!
This was an outstanding demonstration. I'm in awe of how well you understand the different stages and how they affect each other. I often ignore pedal, amp and cabinet and create a sound with "regular" effects (comp, EQ, saturation, distortion, autopan and additional FX like chorus, phaser, flanger, etc), because I had issues getting the sounds I wanted with the "standard guitar" plugins. Hearing this demonstration makes me think I should give them another shot. Thanks!
Ive been devouring Ableton vids since Covid started and this is by and far the most well done tutorial I've come across. It might be guitar specific, but if your style translates to learning other elements of the software, then your courses are def worth it.
@17:30 if you use a spectrum analyzer could you visually see how the mids in the lead tone are cut? Hearing you highlight the difference between the rock and lead setting was an aha moment for me because i heard what youre talking about. Thank you for this vid!
Seriously appreciate this video, and the download link. Didn't expect downloading the pedal board to be so easy, but it took all of five seconds. Thanks, man.
This is one of the best tutorial style videos I've ever seen, you didn't just show us what can be done but how you did it in a relatively easy way. Thank you so much!
I think i need to watch each part 20times to get everything 😂 this is the most clear and complete tutorial on a subject i really need to know but my brain is too small for just one shot. Thank you dude your'e the best
This! This is exactly what I was looking for as a newcomer to Ableton. I'm def down for the Ableton course, especially if you've going to cover 11 when the update comes out.
Well, I’ve learnt a LOT! What an amazing, informative and professional video! It’s a classic case of “knowing”! I didn’t know I had to add a “cabinet” to the chain… and the tones you are wrangling are sweet !
this is the exact video ive been waiting to pop up in my feed. thanks so much for sharing all of this! i finally get how amp and pedal and cabinet are meant to be used, thanks to your super easy explanation! subscribed
man, this is incredibly helpful. i started releasing music and kind of just put shit together based on how i used to do it. i never really LOVED my guitar tone, so i started looking into how to make an srv sound with ableton. this is hands down one of the best tone videos ever. thank you! definitely going to dig into this more. yay, no more crappy tone :D
dude this is awesome! who needs expensive VST guitar plugins anymore that just take up space and slow down the CPU, now I can just use the stock Ableton stuff to get my own tones. This tutorial was very informative. Thank you for the knowledge
This is great - anything similar for bass? I can get an OK bass sound through DI in ableton, but really curious about best practice for bass signal chain.
Adam Neely put out a q+a video recently where he shows his signal chain into Ableton, and he uses an HX Stomp emulating an Ampeg head + 8x12 cabinet. In Ableton he adds a compressor to the end as well as a saturator to warm up highs and lows. You could probably replace the HX with an amp and cabinet in Ableton with similar results.
Dude, awesome video!! Feels like it's hard to find people on youtube who can explain both what to do and *why*, and you've got the why down fantastically. Thank you for this
Thanks for this guide, I'm truly appreciating this! As someone who's played acoustic all his life and just stepped his toe into the world of electronic, this is just invaluable information. Saves you alot of headache figuring out yourself. Hats off to you
this is awesome man, i loved how you explained what's going on with the plugins, and diving into this made me appreciate distortion in guitar more. thank you so much
31:58 - you added room reverb - why can't we see the effect box? / Does the virtual amp has an effects loop? Let us say the chain is: OD - delay - amp - cabinet: the delay is not in the loop OR OD - amp - delay - cabinet, meaning the delay is in the loop. ??? Impressive are the sounds that you can get out of the guitar with this program!!! Thanx very much!
Thanks so much! This has made such a difference to my tone - from weak and flabby to sounding like an actual guitar. Applied the same principles on bass too and it has made such a difference.
very good tutorial worth a tip guys. if you download the racks, leave some dollars doesnt need to be much but if we all do that the dude's gonna feel as good as we do discovering this tutorial !
Excellent tutorial this! I'm not a guitarist, but I've used your tutorial to create an effects rack of my own to feed D16 Phoscyon through, for that authentic 90's distorted 303 sound. Works a treat! considering lots of people were using guitar pedals/amps for their distortion needs back in the day. Keep up the great work!
UPDATE: This definitely put me on the right path. I was doing all kinda crazy crap before.. After trying out many free sims (using the methods in this video)...ive settled on Amplitube. I like its sound better but the stock ableton plugins are great as far as cpu.
I saw the thumbnail to this video and thought, "that guy looks like Anthony from Papadosio," so I clicked out of curiosity. Then I saw your SG on the wall back there and I got excited. I just started learning Ableton literally yesterday, and this is exactly what I needed. I subbed right away of course, let's do this!
