  • With only two HDMI and two USB, how can we get 10 cameras into the Magewell Director Mini? And then, dissolve between six live video sources all going at the same time! Let me show you how!

    Have you tried adding more smartphone cameras (VDO ninja) through the browser source? 🙂

    • @StreamTeknology
      @StreamTeknology  5 месяцев назад

      @@alydhiends I have not, also, it's not designed to work that way because I don't think web sources come in with audio.

      @@StreamTeknologyIt seems to work. I can hear audio just fine. But if used as camera source, I would probably just use the audio from an external audio mixer anyway instead of the camera's audio.
      And also, VDO Ninja's Room feature (good for inviting guests) also works and the audio comes in just fine. It's quite exciting that it just works, at least in my initial tests.
      Althought I have not tested it with DM's current firmware version, because I'm running the 3.0 beta. And I also have not yet tested this in real live streaming situation.

    What is the max distance you could be away from the DM with the phones using that app? They have to be on same network correct? So if out in the field like a hockey rink, and all using your phone as a hotspot to be on same network, what is the range of that D app?

    • @IEBATechThoughts
      @IEBATechThoughts 11 месяцев назад

      The range has nothing to do with the app. And everything to do with the network. The design of the network, the reach of the network.

    • @IEBATechThoughts

      Furthermore, if somebody has a corporate vpn, and remote devices are technically on the network, then you could have a phone in another city, which is visible on the network, be visible to the director mini.

      @@IEBATechThoughts that still doesn't answer the question of how far can you be away in a scenario like a hockey rink? If you have the answer then leave it here so I can learn. If phones can stay connected from all around the rink to the hotspot then technically they should be able to send their video feed cleanly still?

      I'm sorry but there's no easy answer to your question. There are so many variables. As you've already noted, a cell phone hotspot is not going to be that great. If you had a dedicated external hotspot that would be a little better. If you connected a hotspot to a strong wireless access point with external antennas, that would be even better. If you had a mesh network system, that would be even better, if the building had metal walls to reflect the Wi-Fi around, that would be even better.
      Conversely, if there's other systems using Wi-Fi frequencies and blanketing multiple channels, that will dramatically cut distance.
      I've used wireless cell phone cameras for years. But there was one time I wasn't able to get 2 feet apart at an expo because of other RF in the center. At another location, facilities staff keyed up their in-house phones and every time they did, my frame rate got choppy But there's no way of knowing without testing.
      "How far can you be away" depends on a lot of different factors and has no easy answer.

      @@IEBATechThoughts I so also employ the Gli Slate Ax 1800 which boosts the cell hotspot decently but some rinks are worse that others...if these boxes can use bonding to provide a stable stream, and the app can work across the rink then that would be a good solution...but spending over 2k up here in Canada for the box is an expensive test that's why I'm trying to get answers

    I have three Obsbot Tail Airs here at school and am looking at as minimal a setup as possible to record three cameras and switch live. My plan is to gey a Magewell Director Mini. wirelessly add the three Obsbot cams via NDI, and stream from there. I intend on usng the Gl.Inet Beryl portable router for wireless networking and Rode Wireless Go II mics directly into an Obsbot Tail Air for audio. What do you think of that in terms of portability. Would that work, do you think?

    • @StreamTeknology
      @StreamTeknology  10 месяцев назад

      That certainly sounds like a very compact little kit. Everything can be battery powered too.
      Do you plan on recording ISOs in the cameras? and then record the live switch in the DM?

    • @ZyxxyDigitalMedia
      @ZyxxyDigitalMedia 10 месяцев назад

      @@StreamTeknology That's the idea. I liike the idea of ISO recording and since the OBSBOT Tail Airs can record to micro-SDXC cards and the Rodes record internally as well... why not? My question is do you think the Director Mini can handle the 3 cameras well enough wirelessly over NDI? I'm not too worried about latency as long as all three cameras have the SAME latency!

    • @StreamTeknology
      @StreamTeknology  10 месяцев назад

      @@ZyxxyDigitalMedia Yes, I didn't notice a difference in latency.

    Can you only use PTZ controls with the OBSbot Tail Air over NDI ONLY or can the Director Mini also use PTZ controls with the OBSbot Tail Air over HDMI or USB? And can the PTZ controls on the Director Mini be managed via Companion and a Streamdeck?

    • @StreamTeknology
      @StreamTeknology  11 месяцев назад

      The OBSBOT does not accept PTZ commands over HDMI. Or USB AFAIK. Either NDI (as PTZ is part of the protocol) or the OBSBOT app. They can indeed be managed by Companion.
