As a cartoon collector, I’m really shocked Scooby-Doo #1 didn’t make the list. Only 13 copies graded 9.0 or above exist, and none of them are above a 9.4!
When the crow first became popular, I sold a whole short box full of them. I still have one copy of the first appearance of the Crow that I save in high grade.
Heading to the comic room right now to look at the condition of my Batman 227 and Detective 411. Bought 'em as a kid and MAYBE read 'em once. Thanks for the vid !!
I actually wonder how any Silver Age end up as 9.8. There weren't bags and boards yet (were there?) So even though there wasn't a big collectible market established yet, you had collectors that loved to collect so much that they found ways to keep them pristine?
Just FYI. A few years ago on the comic book youtube channel "Luther Manning" Mike mentioned to Patrick during a CGC graded comic book unboxing that he knows someone with multiple unopened cases of Conan the Barbarian #1 published by Marvel Comics back in September 1970. I only mention this because who knows how many unopened cases of bronze, silver, and or golden age comic books are out there that may be held in storage for whatever reason to this very day.
I wish I knew this before I bought my 9.8 two years ago. There were 80 of them at the time and now there are more than 100. Hard to believe for a 50 year old book so there may be some truth to this story.
Really enjoy these T10 videos. They're informative and educational, and have a way of motivating us to check our collections or LCS for these books. Thanks for sharing, James. Keep on keeping on! 😘
Sometimes people just want the books because they are just amazing stories, which is why people read them! I understand wanting a perfect copy, but for older books you can really tell the history of that book and think about all the hands that flipped through it with the lower grade copies.
I live in Somersworth NH, which is next door to Dover, where TMNT was created. I’ve seen a few high grade TMNT #1s on display, but not for sale. Had a chance to pick up a 4.0 first print a few years ago, but it was the height of the comic boom and the price was crazy high
All these black spines that show so many ticks. But that’s the beauty sometimes, like scars are memories of a life well lived, spine ticks and bends means someone loved and read their books
I feel decidedly old - my older siblings used to collect and managed to hand down some books from this era when they were getting rough. They were quite meticulous with maintaining the condition of their comics, so I can’t even imagine what they must have hidden away!
Mint-Hunter Comics, Guy! This was a very enjoyable show! Your information was worth while and relevant! Currently there is so much worthless "junk" information on RUclips, as it related to comic books, grading and collecting!. Yours are direct and to the point as to what it important!
The only book on the list I have in high grade is, H.O.S #92.... Facsimile! Still some great presenting low/mid grade copies out there! "Buy the book, not the grade"
Nice to see Crumb & Cerebus, only time I saw 1st pints of each was in the Phantom Zone (Australia) warehouse lying in boxes. Should have grabbed them at the time.lol
While I've seen both covers, I never realized that Batman #227 was homaging an old Golden Age cover until just now. Also, thanks for reminding me that the Jonah Hex movie was a thing…
Excellent. Black spines are so cursed. Speaking of spines, I was expecting to see some of the early square bound comic problems like X-men GS 1. Thanks!
Great stuff! Thanks. Your right about the Wonder Woman being a weird one. I actually have a near perfect copy but for a single tiny white scuff on the red lettering. Like fate said, "Nope, this comic cannot be mint".
Great list, great channel. Always great to hear. It would be fun to see a list of uncommon 9.8 signature series books. Which books have a high 9.8 count, but low SS 9.8 count?
I friggin' loooove "Cerebus" ... I had already read about half of them when I was younger and just bought the first 8 paperback novels on ebay ... found out half of them are signed by Dave Sims which is always a plus!!
You hitting the cardio harder than usual? Looks like you're making some good progress, man, keep it up 🤘🏻 I'm a Batman #227 sucker as much as the next guy, but I'd settle for a raw 3.5-5.0 grade. It's an awesome book, but those Neal Adams covers hold up at lower grades. Sometimes moreso than Jack Kirby & John Buscema ones. Allegedly there are tons of Avengers #57s in near mint out there waiting to be found, but I've never seen one 😂 the last one I got (years ago, *way* before WandaVision) was a 5.0 raw for $172. Unless I mis-remember the price. It might have been $192.
Man, I would love to own a 9.8 Marvel Spotlight #5! Not surprised that there aren't too many high grade copies since Ghost Rider wasn't that crazy popular of a character off the start. Same with that Werewolf by Night #32, not a very praised character until way later in the comics.
As a cartoon collector, I’m really shocked Scooby-Doo #1 didn’t make the list. Only 13 copies graded 9.0 or above exist, and none of them are above a 9.4!
What if I told you that was on the list but my tired dumb ass literally forgot to read that one off of the list? 😂😂😂
Yep, that's another book that I look for all the time. Kids books are impossible to find in high grade from 1970s
Fuck that damn dog😵
That damn dog bit me!
The heavens have aligned! The wife of an old friend has Wonder Woman 204. From the photos I’ve seen it may be one of those rare finds!
Was really hoping there would be one on your list that I could say, "Hey, I have that in high grade!", but alas, your list holds up and I have none.
Hahahahaha maybe next time
The Crow #1 with that all black cover is pretty tough to find in high grade
When the crow first became popular, I sold a whole short box full of them.
I still have one copy of the first appearance of the Crow that I save in high grade.
Love your videos. Learning about the importance of these comics is awesome.
Black spines are the kiss of death for older comics
All cool books to have in any grade.
Heading to the comic room right now to look at the condition of my Batman 227 and Detective 411. Bought 'em as a kid and MAYBE read 'em once. Thanks for the vid !!
That Batman by Neal Adams must be eye dropping when seen in person with a 9.8 grade.
One of my favorite Neal Adams covers. I swear I have never seen one in person higher than, say, 6.0-6.5 raw.
I actually wonder how any Silver Age end up as 9.8. There weren't bags and boards yet (were there?) So even though there wasn't a big collectible market established yet, you had collectors that loved to collect so much that they found ways to keep them pristine?

Don’t believe there are any decent golden books sitting around in quantity. Silver & newer very much overprinted.
Love the show bro! Haven't missed one in over a year. Keep it up man!
Hose of secrets. Is my grail to own. Love your show. Keep it up
This is when a Time Machine would be very useful. Go back and get a few of these rare books in high grade and sell a couple to make a profit.
Every time I'm reading an old comic with the old Mile High centerfold with Hulk #181 in NM for $3 I wanna cry.
Really enjoy these T10 videos. They're informative and educational, and have a way of motivating us to check our collections or LCS for these books. Thanks for sharing, James. Keep on keeping on! 😘
Love the topics you present and the way you present them.
Thanks for your content. Always informative for any type of collector. I always watch your videos to the end.
Don’t forget DC 100-Page Super Spectacular #4, it has the most amazing Bernie Wrightson cover. Never seems available over a 7.0
Most of those square bound 100 pagers are hard to find in high grade
Sometimes people just want the books because they are just amazing stories, which is why people read them! I understand wanting a perfect copy, but for older books you can really tell the history of that book and think about all the hands that flipped through it with the lower grade copies.
I just started collecting comic books. I find your videos are the most helpful. Keep making videos with this great information
Wow that’s awesome to hear!
Great list. I remember seeing some of these in the wild when I was much younger. I regret not picking them up now. LOL. Great content, Keep em coming.
I would love to own a first appearance of Ghost Rider in that grade. My favorite character from my youth.
I live in Somersworth NH, which is next door to Dover, where TMNT was created. I’ve seen a few high grade TMNT #1s on display, but not for sale. Had a chance to pick up a 4.0 first print a few years ago, but it was the height of the comic boom and the price was crazy high
That House of Secrets Cover is great. Great story too.
I literally lol'ed when you first said Batman 227. That's my ultimate grail.
Primer 2 - 1st Grendel - all-black cover with a very low print from the independent publisher Comico. Awesome
All these black spines that show so many ticks. But that’s the beauty sometimes, like scars are memories of a life well lived, spine ticks and bends means someone loved and read their books
Really enjoying your content.
Straight forward and informative.
Keep up the Great Work!
"Who cares if you can't find near mints," says the man literally named Mint-Hunter.
Do Altoids or Lifesavers come in Near Mint?
Love your videos!!! So informative and educational!!!
I feel decidedly old - my older siblings used to collect and managed to hand down some books from this era when they were getting rough. They were quite meticulous with maintaining the condition of their comics, so I can’t even imagine what they must have hidden away!
Great video! Unfortunately I used to have many of the books you showed in close to NM condition that I had to sell below FMV about 10 years ago.
Mint-Hunter Comics, Guy! This was a very enjoyable show! Your information was worth while and relevant! Currently there is so much worthless "junk" information on RUclips, as it related to comic books, grading and collecting!. Yours are direct and to the point as to what it important!
Thanks for all the useful info you give us on every video
Luke Cage, Hero For Hire #1 must be right up there!
Great videos man love watching your stuff!
The only book on the list I have in high grade is, H.O.S #92.... Facsimile!
Still some great presenting low/mid grade copies out there! "Buy the book, not the grade"
Thanks for all great tips, entertainment and knowledge.
Nice to see Crumb & Cerebus, only time I saw 1st pints of each was in the Phantom Zone (Australia) warehouse lying in boxes. Should have grabbed them at the time.lol
Awesome list of comics that I definitely agree with and are even near impossible to even see one "live"!
Definitely get my knowledge from this channel! Thank you!
Great video. Really enjoy your content. Keep up the good work
Great video! Those are very tough ones to find NM!
Your videos are so much fun to watch and give me more knowlege of other keys to look out for 😊
Very interesting information to know. Thanks for a great video!!
Awesome video man!!! That Neal Adams Batman is a grail for me
Based in New Zealand and the peaking is slim, but but u never know what is out there. Fingers crossed one day I will find a holy grail. great video
Fantastic video! Love the content you put out.
Great video. Great topic to discuss. Keep up the good work. 😎
Great channel , been enjoying for a year so far
Sweet, as an avid comic and vintage toy collector your vids are the best.
Love that House of Secrets 92 cover! Finally got a nice copy for the PC
I would love to get Wonder Woman #204! I have satisfied myself with a facsimile...
Great list! Started reading the OG Ghost Rider run for the first time. Great cheezy fun!
I have most of these in the 9.0 9.2 area....one you did not mention was hero for hire 1....I have a CGC 9.6 White pager
While I've seen both covers, I never realized that Batman #227 was homaging an old Golden Age cover until just now.
Also, thanks for reminding me that the Jonah Hex movie was a thing…
Luke Cage #1 is also a notoriously hard book to see in NM or better
Excellent.
Black spines are so cursed.
Speaking of spines, I was expecting to see some of the early square bound comic problems like X-men GS 1.
Thanks!
Your closing comment said it best “who cares if you cannot find it in 9.8” for some of these books any grade is better than no grade
Wow,I'd love to have that first Laura Kinney, love that cover
Black covers just look sooooooo good, but they get those easy ticks........still look amazing!!!!!!!
Wow I never knew!!! Great video my guy!
Great list! I wonder how many near mint newsstand copies of Dazzler #1 are out there... (j/k)
Always love the lists you do 👊🏼
NM Marvel Spotlight #5 is a book I've been hunting for long time 😂 Really enjoy your channel!
Great list! Time travel device needed!
Nice list- those black spines are killer!
You got my hopes up when you showed Howard The Duck #1. I had bought that, read it once and put it away ever since.
Thanks for the tip on the yellow covers.
Spotlight #5 and GR #1 with similar covers are both tough to find in high grade. At least on my budget.
It turns out I’m guilty of collecting comics for just having them. I never read them.
I friggin' loooove "Cerebus" ... I had already read about half of them when I was younger and just bought the first 8 paperback novels on ebay ... found out half of them are signed by Dave Sims which is always a plus!!
Great video idea, well presented.
Hero for Hire 1 so tough! 😎🔥
Nice list. Never even heard of the independent comics you listed.
Awesome information and very interesting!!!! Thank you for sharing!!
Thanks!
I have the 1st appearance of Tallia. It's in great shape but like you said that black cover is hard. Mine looks faded, not bad. It's a solid Vf
Love all these books even at 1.0. Great vid.
same here!
Great video. My Mom bought me that Ghost Rider when I was like 4. Still have it...but definitely not 9.8
Very interesting lists as always.
Such a great list of books. Would love to own any of these.
Great video as always!
Love these - your content is unique
Great video! Love interesting content like this. 👍
You hitting the cardio harder than usual? Looks like you're making some good progress, man, keep it up 🤘🏻
I'm a Batman #227 sucker as much as the next guy, but I'd settle for a raw 3.5-5.0 grade. It's an awesome book, but those Neal Adams covers hold up at lower grades. Sometimes moreso than Jack Kirby & John Buscema ones.

How about any of the Treasury Editions? Too big to keep in high grade! I bet there are no 9.8s
I didn't think anyone even grades those!
Great topic, and great video, James!
Great list- thank you!
Love the show gonna be a fan for a long time
Great video and a great selection of comics. If I could only find one, it would be a tough choice. First Ghost Rider or first Swamp Thing??
Tough list! I own a few of them, with the highest being a CGC 7.5 All-Star Western #10 that I purchased fresh off the newsstand when it came out.
Crazy how rare some of those are. None that I really collect or search for but still pretty amazing.
Good data. Some good and bad. Very difficult for the underground. Thank you for your content.
Love learning from you!
Very good list James
The one I would want in a 9.8 is Marvel Spotlight #5 I just love that cover.
Man, I would love to own a 9.8 Marvel Spotlight #5! Not surprised that there aren't too many high grade copies since Ghost Rider wasn't that crazy popular of a character off the start. Same with that Werewolf by Night #32, not a very praised character until way later in the comics.
I picked up a raw marvel spotlight 5 this past weekend. It was in a lot of about 800 books. Alot of 70's horror. Pretty cool lot.
Keep up the good work!!
