- Today I'm in the studio and painting a seascape from drone footage that I shot whilst on my latest coastal Plein Air trip! During this demonstration, I will reveal my techniques for painting surf and breaking waves, the transparency of water and much more. Enjoy with me this wonderful day at the beach!!!

Wow, great painting, beautiful day,. I absolutely love seascapes, this is fantastic, ! Master of the pallet knife, loved the brush work, that's the type of painting 🖌️ that I do,. Seascapes with brushes, I used a pallet knife with the last painting that I did, made the breaking waves look great !

(David) Richard this is another great painting. Loved the distant headlands and how tightly integrated these are with sky and water. Fantastic detail in the near headland wave action. Your concept of using pale blue accents in the wet sand because of sky reflection is brilliant. Appreciate the brush usage a lot as this lends a special smoothness. But you use restraint so the focus is still good. Also really liked your use of transparent iron oxide which adds richness. Thanks for being a great teacher.

I like your videos very much! I have been trying to make paintings of water myself, albeit from much closer by (so you can see individual reflections and waves in choppy water). It's been challenging to make it work well and I it would be fantastic to see how you would tackle something like that. I know it's very different, but I thought what the heck I'll suggest it anyway. Again thanks so much for the videos they're awesome!

Greetings, Richard. This is another very beautiful painting. I love the pastel, almost opal colours with which you have beautifully depicted the terrain. Always good to see how you mix them. - Great waves, you can almost hear them crashing against the beach and rocks. You are very lucky to have so many different landscapes on your doorstep and to be able to paint any plein air if you want to. The ocean is powerful and breathtaking. G'day my friend. An uplifting paint in more ways than one, love the perspective from above. It's really about tonal colour, especially here where the overall scene is limited in detail. Sweeping sand kissed by the blue/green ocean showcases this. I would imagine it is harder to paint a simplistic scene compared to the dominant foreground and thrusting hills of the Flinders Ranges. Yet, you make it look easy. Magenta is one of the forgotten colours by many I think but what a magical colour it is. Once again, a great start to my day and keep 'em coming. Cheers, Rich.
