FLEETING COASTAL LIGHT - SEASCAPE // Studio Oil Painting - Palette Knife / Morning Light - Australia

- Today I will be in the studio, demonstrating my techniques for oil painting with large palette knifes!
During the creation of this work, there will be plenty of inspirational footage of the ruggedly beautiful South Australian coastline. This was captured on one of my recent Plein Air trips.
Enjoy the tranquil serenity of this beautiful coastal area in early morning light, as I move luscious slabs of thick oil paint around the canvas and explain my colour mixing and compositional thoughts as I go!

Your use and appreciation of colour and value is world class; I learn so much watching you.
Hey Fantastic!🎨👍
Dang, you’re like a Samurai artist. Wonderful work and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the physical process you put into creating the beautiful art.
Hi Richard. Just watched you paint this amazing picture start to finish. The sky is beautifully blended in the distance. And the stronger forground rocks and water reflection is brilliant. With so many blended colours. The result is a wonderful lifelike painting. A pleasure to watch you paint this one 😊.Jim from England.
Glad you enjoyed it Jim, thanks 🤩
Hi Richard, it is quite amazing to watch the hard work and precision you put into your paintings. I just want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to watch a master at work. Your talent at bringing nature to life with your mix of colors is quite unique. Your part of the world is paradise.
Hey many thanks!!!

Wow, thank you Bird Of Prayer!
Hey Ricky, where did you learn how to paint so beautifully? I thought myself. I am 73 and have been painting since I was 13. Wish I could have gone to a fine art school....It's my passion and I can see you probably feel the same. You are so blessed to be able to go plain air to such beautiful places in Australia? Your paintings tell of te beauty of such places these your paintings will be for another generation in the future, if this planet is still alive. They will be able to see the beauty of today's sceneries. That's the contribution we give to the planet. Is it not? May the Almighty keep you painting in good health. Thank you for sharing
Hey thanks for all your positive and complimentary feedback!
Vaše slike mise puno dopadaju ,lepota za oči srce i dušu.

@@richardmusgrave-evans my father bought me some pallet knives about 25 years ago, I used them today for the first time to paint, I used them on a building that i am painting, I was very impressed with the results. have you watched Christian Jequel, he is a French pallet knife painter, especially the "horses" painting. very cool.
Beautiful knife work!
Loved this

Wow, thank you!!!!!
Another beauty! Back in the UK, this brings back many happy memories of time by the SA coast. Cheers Richard!
Glad you enjoyed it David 🎨🎨👍😃
Fantastic demonstration and explanation of how you go about getting the beautiful quality of the atmosphere and distance into the sky. As well as how you manage the play of warm and cool colours against and with each other. Going to have to watch this one again... A lot of information in each of your decisions as you go along! Also interesting is the usefulness of doing a small painting while out on location to really give you a reference that has the true, actual colours within it. Thank you, Richard. Gorgeous painting!
G'day Julie, I'm really happy that you're enjoying my videos so much and absorbing my thoughts on painting! Great to here from you again, cheers :-)
Hi Richard, the South Australian coastline is very beautful! Nice video!!!! .....with a look straight to the horizon blu..... Ciao 👍🎨

Oh thank you too Susan!
"just go to a slightly bigger palette knife.." pulls out a Crocodile Dundee 😁 Love watching you work, your colour handling is gorgeous 😊
Lol, yes a bigger knife! Thanks :)
You paint so fast and furious with so much energy, just wondering if you've ever cut yourself when wiping off the palette knife with the paper towel? Those babies are sharp! I love watching you paint.

Another amazing painting Richard, I am just learning more and more every time I watch you paint. This one taught me about achieving that beautiful atmosphere right on the horizon line, thank you for sharing your talent and knowledge.
That’s great Lynne! Pushing that horizon right back with atmospheric affects, really gives a three dimensional depth to you work🎨🖼👍

Beautiful. There must be some serious drying time on your paintings Richard ?
Thank You, takes a little while! :)
@@richardmusgrave-evans Do you also eventually varnish them?
Красавчик 🎉
Fantastic 👍🎨🤩
Beautiful color, great presentation, but the orange reflection in the front does not correctly mirror the image it represents. Would like to see it smaller and not so imposing. Like what you did with the sky.
Very nice.
No worries, cheers!
Nahh.... OK, Technically perhaps, but remember artistic license. It wouldn't be nearly as bold & expressive a painting if he rendered instead of painting. He stated at the start that the orange patch reflecting the morning light off the headlands was the main reason for the piece, right? Plus, against all that blue, the oranges need to occupy a major piece of real estate on that canvas, or it would be all about blue water. Imagine the piece with only little patches of "correctly" rendered reflection amidst all that cool blue. Nice, if that was your aim, but which piece will draw gallery visitors over to it from across the room...? "Nice", or "KaBoom"? :-) I wish I could paint this wild and free ... Thanks for the inspiration, Richard!
B. Jones Could not have said it better...! You know what I’m on about . The big eye catching impression - thanks 🎨🎨🎨🎨
@@BJones-yw4dd You can do "kaboom" and nice. I love warching Richard work. Amazing! The best class I ever attended was a critic class. Learn a lot.
The most beautiful beard I've ever seen. Greetings from Russia !

Класс, очень понравилось видео!)
Большое спасибо!
Bol'shoye spasibo!
Beautiful work, but if I may say it, that orange patch of reflection on the water looks far too large in proportion to the small orange cliff and slightly out of place..
👍 💖💖
🎨👍😃
Every brush stroke screams “ come to AUSTRALIA “
Fantastic, thanks 🙏
Благодарю, супер💖💖💖

Da möchte ich auch wohnen und malen
Bob Ross and Bill Alexander always seemed to be afraid of the green in the sky, where the blues and the yellows came together.
The morning and evening sky have tons of green, so thats why I take advantage of it!!! Love the play of colour :)
Yeah, they always segue into lavender, don't they? I remember the first time a teacher demonstrated putting viridian in the sky. I was like "What?!" And then it clicked. :-)
you painted a reflection but the sun is missing ;_;
...and use it to change the chain on your chainsaw.
Sorry William, I didn't understand the last message ...?
amazing video
Hey thanks!!
