I’ve said this in my past, I love him but not in love with him. I’m currently dating but not in a serious relationship since 2014. I’ve been contemplating about making decisions with my heart or my head. I’ve always been led by my heart and searched for those butterfly feelings, but now as I am a 43 yr old single woman; I’m seeing things a bit differently and considering if we’d match the same lifestyle. At the end of the day I want someone honest, trustworthy, and dependable whom I can build a life with. Thank you so very much for being transparent. This was truly insightful.

I exclusively dated a guy. Since day 1 we move like a couple we did everything together we was always together so after month 6 I ask him why we wasn’t in a relationship he said he wasn’t there yet but he told me that he did not want to hold me hostage and understood if I walk away.
I chose to stay because he was everything I wanted and desire and he told me love me any everything about me. I knew we was going to be in a official relationship.
An additional 4 months pass and i ask him how have things been with me in his life. He said he is happy. I ask “why are we not bf/gf” he said I don’t know… I just don’t feel it. My heart is not telling me that this is it
I had to walk away 😢

This is an excellent podcast Evan. This really resonated with me. I have maximized tendencies as well but I have recently realized that no one is perfect, not even me, and I don't have to literally check off every single thing on my list to be happy. And, if I were to check off everything, I might not be happy anyway. What matters is the relationship, not the "resume."

BEST podcast yet!! Perhaps because it was personal?? I really appreciate the fact that you admittedly weren't sure....because I see this again and again with the men I date; they are never 100% certain about me (even though I'm perfection!)ha....only to botch the relationship, which I normally end, because I find this insulting+demeaning. I would LOVE to hear your wife's side of the story, because somehow, she kept you interested and in love, until you reached your 'aha moment'. SHE very well could have told you to take a hike if you 'weren't sure'! Thank you, this was so insightful....I will definitely change some behavior.

One of the best podcasts on relationships I've ever followed! I will have to watch this episode again. Re: Working really hard on the relationship vs. it being easeful - does this pertain to conflict and communication too? Doesn't conflict and communication always take some level of work? Or are you suggesting with a good match, it feels more natural - and less like work? Thanks!

I’m so glad I found this! I’ve been questioning my own relationship because there isn’t the crazy “in love” feeling and because it’s so easy. I’m glad to have received the validation from this video that it’s okay and probably a better outcome long term. Thank you!

Yeah! I was dating someone for 4 months and everything was there but he left me because he didnt have that "in love" feeling. Everything else was there and he totally blindsided me by dumping me but he claims it was my personality indifference because Im more introverted. Doesnt make sense.

This sounds like the story I am in right now...I have a great guy in my life who has told me that I am the best person he has ever had in his life (outside of family). He says that I have taught him a lot and he has grown a lot since knowing me. We have been together over 3 years. He says he loves me, but he seems to lament not feeling "in love" with me. He refers over and over again to a feeling that he had in 5th grade about a girl that was so very strong, that I believe that he is searching for that feeling again. And, like your girlfriend most likely felt at one time, I am feeling that I need to prepare to let him go to search the "other side of the fence" , though that is not what I want at all, because we fit together in so many important ways, and communicate well and get along great. But it is not about me and what I want, and sometimes I feel that I would do him a favor by not making him break up with me and feel the guilt that he would most likely feel about that. This video really helped me, perhaps I will have him listen to it.

Hi, thank you for sharing your story and being so transparent and honest. I came across this video because I have been dating my boyfriend for a year. I am the only girl, and this is the only and first boyfriend my parents have met. We are a religious family. He is Christian which is great, and he is the best person I have ever known. However, my parents make negative comments about him because he enjoys coaching wrestling. Meanwhile, I am pursuing my Master's degree in Special Education. They expect the guy I am with to have one or be pursuing one as well. Everyone loves him, but the fact that my parents have their strong negative opinions, it's hard. I understand that they do it because they love me. Any advice?

I ended my relationship almost 3 weeks ago because my bf said he wasn't sure about marrying me. I wasn't upset about that admission but it was more so the fact that he totally stopped trying, went 2 weeks at a time without even a phone call and I was the only one making an effort. It sounds like you still treated her with love and kindness even though you weren't sure.

Whatever you’re experiencing now will continue in the future, and even get worse if you marry. So if you and him can’t get along now, if he doesn’t treat you nice now, leave the relationship. Unless you enjoy the drama. If not, be with someone who is drama-free and treats you right.
