WOW!!! Just WOW!!! I have two Workstations at work both running Win 10 Pro. Both must run 24/7 as they have backup tasks to do at night. One has 32GB RAM and the other 64GB of RAM. A quick check this morning showed both had over 20GB of memory used as cache. I set this program up to run every 10 minutes on both. Now neither get over 2GB of cached RAM in between runs. So far this does not seem to be hindering the functionality of either machine. Beats restarting for sure. I first thought this would be useful for low spec machines. Now I realize it is useful on any PC regardless of how much RAM it has. A HUGE Thank You!!!!
Thing is windows memory manager releases memory pages from standby as needed as if they were free. It releases the lowest priority pages first and keeps the highest priority, so unless your system has some other issue it will be far faster if you just leave the standby allocation alone.
@@_thechosen Running it at all is generally unhelpful except perhaps if you have an extremely underpowered computer that the cache clear actually takes significant time... which makes scheduling it pointless, just have a shortcut so you can do it when you are prepping to run a game or other memory intensive program. On any even marginally modern pc from the last 5 or so years this tip is much more likely to significantly harm performance than help it. The windows caching algorithm is actually quite good and clearing it all the time means the high priority pages for system code that is used with frequency will constantly be cleared and need to be reloaded from slow disk especially on the target lower memory 4/8 GB machines that seem to be the target of this little tutorial

I'm watching your video after a hell of a long time! I've been busy a lot lately because I'm a concert stage lighting designer now and I don't really get that much time to watch as many videos as I would before...but now maybe I'll start watching your videos again regularly, Your doing pretty well 👍 keep going brother!
As some users have already commented, this is very bad practice, and there's a large misunderstanding of how cached RAM works. Cached RAM is memory used to store things that may be accessed later multiple times, and its purpose is to actually increase system performance. You said at the start of the video that you "can't use that memory", nothing more wrong than that. Windows will reacquire cached memory when needed very easily. Clearing cache automatically will inevitably slow down your PC on the long run, and in a way that's so subtle you won't even notice. Yes, there may be specific scenarios with stutters where you want to do it MANUALLY, maybe if you want Windows to dedicate cached memory for a specific program or game that you're about to run, but running a scheduled task is straight up wrong and will raise the amount of time that currently running programs take to access files or other resources repeatedly (ironically if the scheduled cleaning happens while you're already doing something you're more likely to get stutters in that specific moment). And let's say Windows management of cached RAM actually sucks that bad, still it's a better idea to wait for them to fix it and do a manual cleaning every now and then.
@@Britec09 Yes, and it's part of the sysinternals site, which is a group of programs originally meant to be used by IT administrators and developers to troubleshoot problems with programs and the system and understand system inner working, not by the average user to create workarounds based on superficial knowledge and issues whose cause is not easily determined. Also, yes, it's my choice to follow what you said or not, but it doesn't replace the fact that spreading misinformed (or malformed at best) statements like "and this basically is memory that I can't use" is on you. Have a nice day.
This "EmptyStandbyList" is a very easy to set and use with the aid from your video. And I've done that even if my device has a higher RAM. This is way cool ever.
This is fantastic, and just what every active PC user needs in their arsenal of tools to keep their computer running smoothly. Thanks again for the excellent tool and video, Brian!
Not sure running a "memory cleaner" on automatic is a great idea - Windows SHOULD release standby memory when there is sufficient demand, and while cleaning the decks before starting something big may be useful, repeatedly flushing every 5 minutes may slow down access to things it does happen to re-use later
it only releases ram cache on restart 21GB cache after play 3 hours of valrent without clearing cache? how is that good and why is windows not clearing it?
@@Britec09 I just tested, cached / standby was pretty high, loaded a ton of stuff up and it drew down from the standby into the used... and ended with somewhat more free after closing them all. Hi Britec. Hope you are doing well. Just have a question, does this method also work the same way for Windows 11? Has this been tested out? Because when I press on the configure for option, it does not show Windows 11 only goes upto 10 as I am on Windows 11. Thank you.
Carried the procedure as per the video, must say it works petfect, what a great video and technical advise. Well pleased thanks for your advise and assistance.
My problem is upon downloading of MS-word 2010 to my Desk Top which was made disable to download by the Admin. So, how can i solve this specific poblem?
I'm not sure I understand the purpose of this. Clearing the system cache will cause programs to open slower, as program data will be moved from the system drive to RAM every five minutes (or whatever the set value is). Older systems would benefit from having data in cache, no? From my understanding, Windows 10 will automatically clear the system cache as needed while you're using the system.
I can only speak from personal experience, but for me, this solved stuttering issues in several games. Certain Games, like Witcher 3 for example, would start to stutter horribly once the cache was full, and windows 10 is very poor when it comes to clearing the cache by itself. To be fair, this was a year ago, so maybe this isn't even a problem anymore, but I haven't noticed any downsides to having it. It definitely hasn't made my PC run worse though, I guarantee that.
@@Britec09 I understand that the cache will be completely flushed when you restart the system. That's not what I'm talking about.
