Fantastic restoration, Martin! I lived in England for a couple of years as a teenager (Dad's job transferred him) and I remember our Headmaster drove an Austin 1800. What I *really* remember is how he would drive onto the school property like Mario Andretti. It was a miracle that none of us got run over.
Cheers my friend, maybe that was his plan to knock a few over 🤣🤣
All the best Martin
Love what you did with this one, Martin! Always great attention to the little details! The color change is nice and transforming it from a taxi to a "Saloon" was a good idea, too. I remember playing with my little cars and riding my bike for hours as a youngster. Now they've got an electronic device permanently attached to their hand rotting their brain!
Thanks very much my friend, yes unfortunately the kids today are missing out on so much real fun outside of the bedroom.
All the best Martin
Martin great restoration on the 1800 l like the colour you picked.😊
Thanks Anthony I appreciate it my friend
Fantastic Job Martin. You did the right thing and going for a plain colour instead of the taxi.
Well done.
Take care, Jeff
Thanks Jeff, glad you enjoyed this one, and all the best Martin
Another beauty from you, Martin. You make this look affortless. Great colour choice, very distinctive.
Thanks Gerry, glad you enjoyed this one
Another great restoration Martin. It looks just right in the period Sandglow colour too.
I totally agree with spending time removing casting lines, cleaning up window apertures and such like prior to spraying - it really does make all the difference. 👍👍
Thanks very much, Richard yes it's worth spending that extra time cleaning it up best you can .
All the best Martin
Nice to see this one, Martin. It looks better as a car than a taxi, as others have said.
Thanks marty glad you enjoyed this one, all the best Martin

Working in a garage I fixed loads of these and remember the automatic version had gear selector on the dashboard. A big roomy car really just like a big mini. A great restoration Martin , it looks great.
That's great you working on these back in the day, I didn't own one ,but I had the maxi witch was also a far size especially with the seats down.
All the best Martin
What an amazing transformation. I love the final garage shots!

Beautiful build Martin, Nice transition from being a Taxi.

Another lovely restoration Martin they were a very nice car very comfortable plenty of room inside a proper workhorse has were the austin maxis, my old dad had a 1800 but his was a green one I'd call it pea green very reliable went a lot of miles in that one he was sad when he'd sold it , good memories mate thanks as Always for great viewing 👍
Thanks Paul, yes I had the maxi witch was a good size ,very similar to the 1800.
All the best Martin
I woke up in the morning and was thinking of something interesting to watch, and Martin has a new video :)))
Thanks very much my friend its really appreciated
Hi found the channel in Jersey t you for the information 😊
That roof repair was terrific, Martin - not even a shadow there! The Sandglow was a mad colour, and hugely popular, along with Limeflower: you used to see all sorts resprayed in those two colours! Mark2 Zephyrs, Sunbeam Talbots... I even saw a Jowett Javelin once! The old Landcrab came up nicely without the minicab roof sign - I did a Vanguard Police Car as a standard motor, and added a roofrack, as a holiday trip motor.
Early model casting, with the horizontal tail-lamp clusters, was always a more pleasing finish on those cars. They had Maxi doors, too - or vice versa! Sweet result again!
The roof repair was really good, nery neat job.!
Thanks very much fraser.
Thanks very much my friend
Looks nice Martin.....
Thanks very much
Years ago Martin, Shaun bought an old Austin Wolseley (if I remember correctly for £75, it was around 1985) to specifically get us to Skegness for a week in the caravan. It was Shaun, Heather, baby Gavin, me and Kerry and Melvin....but that car was huge! It broke down about 18 miles from Skegness, so we abandoned it and started walking to the caravan. After about 5 miles Kerry developed blisters because she was in high heels and was moaning about being alive. We came across a phone box and Melvin called his Dad...Much to our surprise he actually came to pick us up! Shaun and Heather continued walking on to the caravan and stayed a week 😂 This video brought that memory back to me. I absolutely love the photos outside the garage at the end! Really captured that time period in my memories. See you soon.
Thanks very much Glen it's really appreciated

Absolutely beautiful! Those cars were such a well thought out vehicle, it’s a pity they were never as popular as they should have been.
I agree with you a bit before there time ,but a good design 👍
Another fantastic restoration Martin 😊
Thanks very much my friend its really appreciated
Now that turned out to be a very pretty toy Martin. Great choice of colour. It goes well with the red interior. My inner child is envious.
Thanks timo glad you enjoyed it
My uncle used to be a tool setter at Press Steel Fishers in Castle Bromwich, I asked him one day what’s the biggest pressing they did and the answer was the 1800 roof. Not a lot of people know that !
Thanks for the information, I can imagine that would have been the largest panel at that time ,thanks for watching my friend its really appreciated

Wonderful build Martin! Fantastic choice making it a "normal" car and not a taxi.
Hi Jim thanks very much my friend its really appreciated
Very nice work on the ol' Landcrab. That's the perfect 70's sort of colour for it too......👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻
Paul Restorer did one of these very recently and with you doing one it's piqued my interest a little bit, so I had a butchers on that well known buying/selling site. STREWTH!! Have you seen what they're going for? 😯
Thanks very much. Yes, I watched Paul's video. It was good to see the comparison, and the prices are a little high to flipping high, to be honest ,all the best Martin
That's a smart looking Austin 1800 Land crab Martin , nice one 👍
Thanks Jerry, yes looks better not being a taxi.
All the best Martin
Very nice job, filling in the holes on the roof, turned out better then I thought they would do. Look forward to the next restoration.
Thanks very much Mike glad you enjoyed this one
Great work on details. I like how you improved the body casting. Congratulations. Good job.
Thanks very much my friend
Great work
Thanks very much my friend
looking great! nice conversion, and the colour looks good as well. it seems to fit the design like a glove. ^^
Thanks very much Lothar
Love the colour, an original BMC colour. That was an early series 1, so the grill would be all chrome anyway
Thanks, Gaz. I thought it might be a series 1 when I checked on Google images when I was doing the details.
Glad you enjoyed it my friend
Hi Martin this is a real favourite of mine and the colour is great. A nice large popular car, many my age had a family member or friend with one. At the Longbridge factory they had a conveyor over the main road to take the bodies to another part of the factory but the 1800 was to big so was taken across on trucks. All the best from Ian b & the girls.
Thanks Ian ,great photos, I had a maxi for a while very similar, glad you enjoyed it my friend
Hi Martin another saved fantastic job as always 😊
Thanks Anthony it's really appreciated my friend
Good looking transformation.
Thanks very much my friend its really appreciated
Great job again mate, I had a real one of these in that colour.

martin i worked on these 1800s for9 yearsin a dealership gives me shivers down the spine watching this nice job though.
Thanks, Gordon. 9 years, that's a long time. It's strange how unpopular
These cars were, I had a maxi for a few years, tat had its share of problems.
Glad you enjoyed it all the best Martin
Great video as always
Thanks very much my friend
Commonly know as the Landcrab. A similar colour BL used to use was Harvest gold. Like you saw loads like that. Nice choice of colour & beautifully finished. A goes addition to any BMCline up
Thanks very much Ian ,yes as soon as I saw the sand glow paint ,I knew where it was going 😀 all the best Martin
Wonderful job Martin.. The colour choice is spot on, there were many 1800's like that down under also a green/beige was also popular. The 1800 was ahead of its time, massively roomy inside and the "floats on fluid" suspension gave asmooth ride. Again great channel i look forward to every week. i hope you and Mrs D had a good break. all the best my friend, cheers Chris🇦🇺👍🏻🍻🏆🎯🍾🍺
Thanks very much my friend, yes thay were a smooth ride with a bench seat up front ,what's not to like
I always spend my Sundays with Martin
Thanks very much my friend
Nice job on that land crab Martin, period colour too.
Thanks very much Kevin
Perfect colour on that one pal remember it well. never drove 1800 but me and the Mrs passed our tests on kenning motor group 1100s cracking resto mate
Thanks Nigel, I had a maxi for a while ,lots of space ,very similar car .
Hi mate that turned out brilliant on my lap top it looked a bit orange but on the video projector it looked yellow. It's my on going saga trying to get the colour on my projector close to the colour on the lap top. A mate of mine who used to be my drummer in the band bought one of these for his wife. It was white and when we went to pick it up it wouldn't start the guy reckoned it did run and just needed a new battery. So out with the tow rope and mugins here got to be towed in it. It was going quite well until "SNAP" the rope broke leaving me rolling to a stop right in the middle of a busy intersection. In total panic mode I turned the ignition key and blow me down it started so I put it in gear and pulled out of the intersection and stopped at the side of the road out of danger. For some reason I turned the engine off and my mate came over and said great it runs so follow me. ERRT ERRT ERRT CLICK CLIC yep the battery was flat again and it wouldn't start. 😫 My mates face.😡🤬Catch you on the next one mate.👍🏻
Hi Geoff
Thanks for the story on the 1800. Typical of the cars back then ,but at least you could work on them not like todays cars , I had an experience similar to you ,my mate and I stripped a car for spares ,just had the shell and wheels, and he was towing me to the scrap yard and te tow rope snapped at a busy junction there I was sat in the car on a milk create no doors no engine boot or bonnet while he was driving up the road without a are in the world, I certainly drew attention to myself that morning 🤣🤣🤣 all the best Martin
Looks fantastic Martin, nice colour, reminds me of a Morris 1100 ,nice nice
Cheers laz glad you enjoyed it
Great result, Martin! Love the colour.
Thanks Johan it's really appreciated my friend
I much prefer your colour scheme to the original. I think you put a lot of work into tidying the casting and that has resulted in a lovely finish.
Thanks David it's really appreciated my friend
Looks great.
Thanks very much my friend its really appreciated
Really nice work Martin!!
Thanks very much Tom 😀
Looks great~!
Thanks very much lee
🤗👍👌👏
Cheers my friend
Awesome. Where these the ones were the gear change was described as a wooden spool in a bowl of custard. Or was that the Maxi.
Yes the maxi was the one ,especially when the plastic gear selector bearing got worn .all the best Martin
So you took this car and turned it from a taxi into a regular car
Just an observation, but here in the USA some cabs are painted yellow and the paint job on that car makes it look like, well, a taxi.
You put a lot of work into it and I’m sure if I saw it in real time it would not look yellow at all…..
I also liked seeing it in that diorama of yours….
Yeah I get what your saying, but over here most taxi cabs are black ,so it's all good 👍 thanks and all the best Martin
What Shawn said @thescalemodelcarguychannel8681 very smart looking Martin 🍻🍻👌 🍻🇦🇺🤝🇬🇧🤗😊👍😎
Thanks very much KC it's really appreciated my friend

Brilliant! It's looks bob on. My dad had a couple of them. Both went to the scrap yard in the end. Didn't like them as a kid. Too uncool. 🫤
Thanks very much glad you enjoyed it ,yes most of them didn't have a long life
