Lovely job Martin, I love the mirrors, and the red bumper, lovely detailing and the perfect shade of green, glad the stickers worked out ok. The doors I made for mine were a right fiddle to get in as well, I put some Vaseline in the runners to try and make them slide better, the actual doors themselves took me a couple of attempts to make , the first one I made for the back was a smidgin too narrow and pushed inside the box, so I can appreciate the problem you had with those repro doors. Superb restoration Martin, I love it! All the best, Nick🐸🐸🐸
PS. Thank you for the mention 😊👍🐸🐸
Thanks very much nick ,yes the doors are definitely the sticking point on this lorry, but it works just .thanks again for the stickers nick
All the best Martin
Where has that Five years gone !!!!. The file idea is one I will definitely be using from now on .
Yeah, 5 years has flown by. The smooth edge file is definitely a game changer. All the best Martin

@@martindaredare 🙂
Cracking job. Your choice of green is far better than the original shade.
Yeah I don't think many Bedford TK's would of been painted metallic green back in the day!
Thanks very much David it's really appreciated my friend
Hey, my favorite color Martin☘️,those Bedfords are a sharp looking trucks, you did a very good job on placing the mirrors on the truck as well as the detailing👍, you certainly made Castrol Oil proud👍😎well done my friend, take care , I’ll be waiting to see what diecast restoration you will come up with next, I know it will be interesting 👋😎🚒🛻🚚🚗🍻
Thanks very much, Jeff, glad you liked it all the best Martin
Excellent restoration! Those doors were quite something--you definitely earned your mug of tea and a few extra biscuits! I also think the new shade of green looks better than the original.
Thanks very much my friend, yes definitely earned an extra brew that day 😀, all the best Martin
Another saved from the Dinky scrapyard, well done you😊😊😊😊
Cheers mick 👍
Fantastic restoration Martin great work my friend love the shutter doors lovely colour thank you for sharing video
Thanks John it's really appreciated my friend
Well done Martin I can imagine the frustration of those doors. Great outcome.
Cheers Andy, yes it was rather frustrating, all the best Martin
A beautiful outcome. That looks sharp, Martin. Well done.
Thanks very much Gerry glad you liked it 👍
Five years! Who would have thought?
The chassis would be an interesting base for something, without the box body on the Bedford, but I think the original unit is interesting enough.. flatbed recovery unit? I cannot help myself!’;
I like the headlamp mod, and the mirror job on the A-post is a bit special, Martin. Lovely restoration, and a great tutorial for anyone listening carefully enough!
Thanks Fraser, I think it's the same chassis thay used for the refuge lorrys. Twin wheels would be my first mod on that one .🤣
Wonderful restro again, remember these in many liverys in late 60s and 70s running around delivering all sorts, couple of firms by me in dudley delivered tatters in them, one all blue with cream cab and one all dark blue besides furniture stores and parcels so a good basis for many conversions.
Thanks John, yes there was lots on the roads back then ,its still nice to see them at the shows in all there glory
the patience of a saint, Saint Martin of Dares😎😎😎😎😎
Thanks very much wally I appreciate it my friend

Thanks Tom, yeah, the fabrication of the doors is a good idea, but unfortunately, it's a time thing producing a video once a week ,but I can experment when I get the time.
All the best Martin
Hi Martin ,respect sir !!!!!.
Hi mate, wow that green is perfect for the job, I don't think you could get it any closer. Those pesky doors need to be made of something more flexible. 🤔 The mirrors look cool, I like them, nice finishing touch. Back in the 90s one of the blokes in my band hired a closed in truck like this one to take the band equipment to a country show. We pulled into the front of a delicatessen shop to buy some drinks and lunch. Unfortunately the shop veranda was sticking out just a little bit to far and the high box section hit it and brought the hole thing crashing down, lucky no one was standing under it at the time. It ripped a hole in the passenger side box section at the top and literally ripped the veranda off the building, the owner of the shop was pretty angry about it.🤬 I can't imagine why.😂 Needles to say we bought our lunch somewhere else.😂🤣 Great job mate like all your jobs it turned out fantastic. stay safe mate catch you on the next one,👍🏻
Hi Geoff,,I bet the shop owner was happy with you lot .thank very much my friend
Martin another great restoration good looking green on this Bedford TK Castrol lorry better than the original Dinky colour.😊
Thanks very much Anthony, I was pleased how it came out it's definitely a nice green
That looks very nice Martin, fixed it up good, and as long as it has doors, I personally don't care if they work, they look good. The mirrors are a nice touch, great job!
Take care and cheers!😄❤👍
Thanks very much Tim, it's really appreciated my friend
Another superb restoration Martin. A much better colour now - much more Castrol like! The extra work you put in making the headlamps flatter and the addition of the mirrors really make this a stand out job. 👍👍
It's a shame the repro doors aren't made a touch wider, they could always be filed down to suit.
Thanks Richard I really appreciate it my friend
This is an awesome Dinky Toy! Great idea 💡 flipping broken wheel around. The roll up doors are really cool, old ones look fragile. Mirrors made with 📍 great, why did you put baking powder in the super glue? Bodywork, paint and details look really good! I love that green paint! Nice work getting those doors in, it looked quite difficult, I wouldn't mess anymore with them either, look great! I really like the way it came out, amazing work my friend! Have an awesome day! 🤠👍👍👏
Thanks very much, my friend. I'm glad you enjoyed it 👍
Most impressive attention to detail Martin, great job on this truck!!
Thanks very much Phil it's really appreciated my friend
My favourite Dinky toy! Looks fabulous with the red front bumper. Looks mint now! I really like these Bedford Castrol trucks. I've had one before, wish I'd kept it. They are always expensive when they turn up on ebay.
Thanks very much Bob yes thay are a bit pricey, but most of the time the doors are rubbish on them .nice model though.
@martindaredare Got my eye on one on ebay at the moment 😃
Great work as always.
Full watch and share.
Mike
👍👍👍👍👍👍Big like 👍
Thanks very much Mike I appreciate it my friend
Superb restoration Martin. The colour is more accurate to the Castrol livery than the metallic green. The doors are a pain I think the plastic is to thick and not flexible enough with these reproduction parts. Nice touch with the door mirrors and flipping the hubs round great step by step chat as usual very helpful.👍
Thanks very much Ian, yes definitely the repo doors are to thick and not flexible enough, it's a shame I have kept the original doors.
All the best Martin
Very awsome....!😂
Bravo pour cette restauration.... Quel travail minutieux.....!
Thanks a lot 😮
Thanks very much Dominic
Top job, Martin! I love all the fine detail painting you did. They really make it pop! Take care.

OK, I can do a video, when I do re do them ,thanks for watching my friend

great choice of colour i have problems with green the doors were made with polythene a softer type of plastic thanks martin good job.
Thanks Gordon, yeah definitely the original doors where made of a more waxed material. Glad you liked it 👍
Well worth all the effort Martin.
Thanks very much my friend
Bedford TK and Ford D series lorries used to be everywhere at one time. I used to work in a fruit firm that ran a fleet of TKs. Great model resto.
Yes, definitely, a good old work hoarse ,sadly only seen at shows now .
Hi Martin just watch the video and I think that turned out really nice the colour looks great and as for the mirrors I think they set vehicle off. As you said your self it's only a static model and not to play with 👌👍
Thanks very much Ralph iam glad you liked it my friend
Looks a million dollars Martin. Best resto in ages!!
Thanks Terry i appreciate it my friend
That's turned out very well mate. I love a bit of TK action.
Excellent thanks very much my friend
Beautiful restoration Martin well done 👍.
Thanks very much Adrian it's really appreciated
now youve put the doors in if you heated the doors up with a hairdryer (ask the missis first ha ha ) it might relax the plastic enough to make it fit better, great restoration a better green ,im restoring a tk bin truck in my local concil colours at the moment .great blog happy new year.
Thanks very paul ,that's is a good idea 💡 my friend
Superb work, Martin.
Thanks very much Simon it's really appreciated my friend

Thanks very much phill it's really appreciated my friend
Hi bedford lorry best ever
Thanks, Glyn. much appreciated, my friend
Very nice resto!!
Thanks very much my friend
looks great again. the green you used looks more like Castrol-green than the original metallic green. :) though I think humbrol had a slightly similar metallic green after some colour hues changed in late 90's. or something. though one would be more close by using dark green translucent varnish on silver.
anyway, here is an idea on how to save the old jalousies: back them up with white vinyl insulation tape. sometimes you can get the rolls separately, but most times it's a set together with yellow, red, green blue, and black.
to keep the vinlys from sticking to the plastic frame, lube it with some graphite off a soft lead pencil (B or 2B). that isn't too visible, too.
and the remaining vinly tapes cna be used to mask off things. :P
Thanks Lothar, yeah I went to the shop and ise a bottle of castrol product to get the best colour.
The tape idea sounds like a plan .
Thanks very much my friend
My favourite video so far! Fantastic work

Hi Martin happy new year to you and your good lady i think the old shutters were vacuum formulated as it’s a lot more flexible than what you have but again another fantastic restoration keep them coming for 2025 and keep that scrap yard closed for parts only 😊
Thanks Anthony, yes the original doors seem to be thinner so could have been vac formed.
All the best Martin
Another nice restoration turned out nice with the details added 😊
Thanks very much Dean
Looks Fantastic Martin.......🎉
Thanks very much Brian
Great job Martin, it probably took longer as you are a perfectionist, miracles take longer, just out of interest how big is your display unit, great job as usual. 👍👍
Thanks very much my friend it means a lot.
Great restoration and the green is a vast improvement over the original Dinky colour. The Castrol van is one of the harder to come by variations of the Dinky TK but I've restored one as a BBC outside broadcast van as the rear body bears a close resemblance to one the BBC used. I wonder if Dinky had the same idea?
Thanks very much Chris, yes a TV truck is a good idea for one of these .good idea.
Top job there! Regarding the doors I think its a question of trying to replicate the material originally used by Dinky or finding a similar type of plastic/polythene or whatever they used perhaps a nylon based material as that may aid in the self lubrication aspect. Anyways its a fantastic accomplishment to achieve what you have done here.
You are definitely right in that suggestion, something I need to look into ,I did try a few options but non very successful. But I will keep looking.
All the best Martin
I have one of those Bedford Castrol truck models . it is surprising how parts there are to them
Thanks very much ,yes it has a good few parts to it ,all the best Martin
I think you probably needed to take a hairdryer to those cargo doors. That would have helped them flex a bit more, I'd imagine. A lot of juggling to get those right.
Cheers loston, a hairdryer could work ,good idea 💡. Thanks very much
100 per cent better colour green than the metallic green on the original . as I always say you can't have a lorry without mirrors pal
Thanks nigel, I appreciate it my friend
Tops
Thanks very much my friend
Hi Martin I was wondering do you know how to take apart a Vanguards model car because I have two of them a Triumph Dolomite Sprint & a Ford Granada MK1. It appears that it doesn't have anyway of taking them apart no rivets and it does not look like the base clips in please help thank you Robert
Hi Robert
On the granda, there are 2 plastic screw covers that you need to remove. One is the petrol tank, and the other is behind the front bumper on the base plate. You may need a thin blade to pop them off.
On the triumph, the covers are one sump guard and spare wheel well.
Press fit clips .
I hope this helps .
Beautiful restoration Martin well done 👍.
Thanks very much paul ,all the best Martin
