Just the sound of that brings back memories of serving in Germany in the late 79s early 80s, sadly not driving them. My worse memory of them was loading them during a “Active Edge” call out (rehearsal for actions to be carried out if the Russians kicked off). If you were volunteered ☹️ for the fuel party you’d be driven to the huge bulk fuel dump where you’d spend the next few hours loading these things by hand with hundreds of Jerry cans, by the time you’d loaded them & driven out to your holding area if you were lucky the exercise would have ended, if not you’d unload them & camouflage the bloody things, you’d drag your heels on this because you know the exercise will end soon, when Endex was called, we load them back up, drive back to the dump & reverse the motion, no need for pumping irin in the gym after that day!! It was a blessing that near the end of tour many of them were fitted with bulk fuel pods, we were so chuffed & it made in the field replen so much easier!! Good work guys.
I've loved Stollies ever since seeing one being restored on 'Salvage Squad' over 20 years ago. You did your best with these and I hope the new owner restores them fully.
What a shame/smiley face, they are going to be restored! Just a pity Joe has so much on his plate. Thanks for all the fun we've had with them. Most important, thank you Joe for saving them in the first place! I agree with you closing statement too!!!
Little trick we found on Dodge 100 Commando trucks (UK) was to fill the clutch resi up, undo the bleed nipple and go and have a cuppa. The trapped air bubbles would sort em selves out. A lot more successful than trying to whip up a froth by pedal stomping or an Eezibleed.
Good tool and I last used one about 25 years ago, I have a couple of old weed killer sprayers that are hand pump, works a treat and you don't have to keep getting the compressor on to fill the tyres back up. I have the Ally brakes and pressure lid on my 101 and it works a treat.
There’s an awful lot of horse noises coming from Joe, but that just means he’s happy…. :) :) Both yesterday’s ‘Ted’s Bentley’ and today’s ‘Stolly Of The 7th Wind’ are both great examples of RUclipsmanship. Well done all, as ever!!
Happy days! - I remember going round farms getting telescopic loaders, and tractors running when the diesel had turned to jelly. - Metal isn't fun to be around when it's cool. Didn't Adam deserve a biscuit? He'd work better with one, or even two. I hope the new owner of the Stallys has time, patience, and likes repairing, or adding metalwork. The runners appears to be basically a good machine. 👍😃👍
A great way of getting your HGV license as it was called then, they were also good for swimming. Added bonus with the stolly was the fire alarm,it used to scare the absolute crap out of the locals. Another great video
I wish I was Ben I’d love two stollies such a wonderful purposeful motor always loved the stollies but you need big pockets I hope ben sorts them can’t wait to see these done
I suppose, having no steel in any horizontal plane makes dropping tools much easier to recover. Sad to see them go but what a load of fun good stuff lads
I was a little guy (160cm) in the engine rooms of big ships. From carrier to cruiser. The sound of true quality machinery is the melody of the few. Thanks for sharing the music.
One thing you guys can guarantee; things are always unpredictable but the improvisation to fix is very entertaining to us all. Being ex Rough Eng made Easy myself brings back memories of mud, snow and permanently wet and cold but getting the job done. Keep up the good work. 😎
If you’ve missed previous episodes, here’s a quick catch-up: Joe: “Adam, don’t do ________” Adam immediately does ________. (Insert anything in the blank)
I’m very envious of you getting to drive a stally.that was my last job before I left the army .such great things to drive it’s a shame they wouldn’t let us drive them more.as with all vehicles they were on limited mileage 😩.i never got the chance to swim one.and changing the heater matrix was a bugger of a job .but was the best thing I ever drove.inc tanks.im ex RTR.
The old B81 pops and farts like a 2 Bob rocket. Once saw one fitted in a Dennis fire engine split the front mounted transverse exhaust clean in two because it had pumped so much petrol into it.
epic as always , slightly worried that Bentley owner ship might have made you all posh , good luck to Ben with the stolly's , keep up the great filming Ted
Adam reminds of the bloke at unit, no f*cks to give, but is good at what he does, so no one really cared. Nothing ever goes wrong for him, where as for you, it ends up with you stood in front of the OC, or a hefty crate fine and a major cover up. You wish you were him, but he’s still a lance jack, even after his Class One 😂. Thanks for the update, love your content, tally ho, and all that jazz.
I remember back as a mechanic in the 80’s we used to say ,pass us a nut buggerer .you knew we meant an adjustable spanner .or in the trade they were called a “universal nut buggerer”😂👍
A German fitter used to call them UNF's 😂 confused his Brit Oppo for a minute as they were fitting a brand new multi million pound machine ... he used to work for GKN fasteners 😂... LOL then the penny dropped.
Sad to see Stolly's go as was very interested to see what you would do with them. Hope both are restored ok. It is impressive how older tech can withstand use, abuse, and neglect yet still work if with a bit of help. Modern military hardware I doubt will be so obliging in time.
That 'reverse bleed' with an oil can is how we used to bleed Scania clutches after a clutch change as they have concentric slave cylinders. Just had to tilt the cab a bit so the master cylinder can overflow into a rubbish bin! But what a babe of a truck! Totally abused, left standing and then still fired up and ran. And what a sound they make. And how kind to send that adjustable with the fuel pump.
You need a much longer CLEAR hose so you can put a loop in the hose and be able to see any air bubbles in the hose. I used this same idea starting in the mid 70’s when working at a Kawasaki shop. It’s basically impossible to bleed the the front disc brakes using the old fashioned way of pump and hold.
stalwart....one of htose great british designs.....with some flaws of ocurse but a lovely vehicle. i got at home a series of russian books about mil vehicles(books were meant foe russian military academy) and it contains (amongst a lot of other drawings) a nice drawing of the stalwart drive shaft and complete suspension!
I remember being on ammo party back in the 70s. Standing in the back of a Stolly full of ammo driving across the impact area and 105mm rounds landing about 500 meters away. Talk about brown underpants.
So funny 👌 Those engines that sit in the mud for years sound miles better than a modern day golf on tik over - if only we could find a way to drop one in a golf 😆 Also I don’t know what’s more impressive the firing up of old engines or the fact you had no gloves on in arctic conditions 💪🏼
Best sound ever , I have always loved the sound of Stolly's with a heap of revs ,preferably though when running a little better than this example. Driver under training I see?
@@markbingham330 Why did you think that? 1, 2 and 4 Div were all in the BAOR….3 Div replaced 4 Div in 1977. 4 Div returned to the UK. My Sqn, 6, stayed in Duisburg.

Cessna 152 Slowly pull the primer knob all the way out, and allow the primer to fill with fuel drawn from the fuel sump. Slowly push the primer knob all the way in to force fuel through small fuel lines and special nozzles that create a fine mist as it is injected directly into the engine cylinders or induction manifold. Stolly, a little more complex to prime.
It's the whole row of adjustable spanners that tickled me 😂
yeah , looks like they have metric , imperial ( standard for US folks ) and even Whitworth .. lol
The gang are ' just able' to fix just about anything with that kit!
You should be sent to a punitentiary for that one 😂@@brianwillson9567
‘Greedy’, they call that. Bloody greedy!! How DARE you accuse me of being jealous!?! :) :)

It’s great to watch English engineers tinkering with toys RUclips is full of American stuff. Your just what I’ve been looking for 👍🇬🇧
Great looking vehicles from a great British manufacturer.
Top man for getting it semi functional before it goes to the next owner. Ben seems like a thoroughly nice chap so best of luck to him. ❤
Absolutely love this channel!! So glad WhistlinDiesel put me on to you guys when he bought his tank!

those biscuits break your teeth and should be banned unless coming with a large mug of tea
I'm sure Adam wouldn't say not! - possibly an awkward shape for dunking. 😊
The Stalwart brings back memories of the one we had in 1971 at RAF Gan in the Maldives, which was run by the Marine Craft Unit around the lagoon.
Having ridden 1960's Triumphs for many years, I got a chuckle from all your Smith's guages comments. Cheers from Canada

If you’ve missed previous episodes, here’s a quick catch-up:
Joe: “Adam, don’t do ________”
Adam immediately does ________.
(Insert anything in the blank)
Stollys had a habit of going up in flames when leaky jerrycans were carried in rusty rear decks, as it's above a very hot thing....
Is it just me... or is Adam sort of an off-brand Richard Hammond? No offense to either, they're both great.
Can you imagine Joe and Adam as young bairns playing in a sandpit with tonka toys?
🤣🤣
Hey man I'm lost what happened to the stalwart 😢
Love the pops n bangs remap on the stolly 👌
Heavy you selling them ,good that Ben gonna look after them.
It will be great to see them both back fully together and running
True words and the end there, wish I could have had them, but good to see they might be getting some love.
Flames 🔥 got to love a stolly
I’m gutted you are not bringing one of them back to factory fresh. I’ll have to watch Ben's channel.

I love the use of adjustables…no doubt because there is a mix of thread/bolt sizes to confuse the squaddies.
Man i bet the alvis can go just about any where being a 6×6. It's my favorite truck on the channel.
