I love that sound, brings back memories of my childhood, rideing these buses on field trips..i remember the smell too was so distinctive every MCI had that same refreshing smell in the inside.
Love the sound of these and could go to sleep listening to it as i did when u was a kid riding with dad. He worked for Domenico Tours, Evergreen/Pocono Mountain Trails and Aristocrat Bus companies. MC-9 was his favorite.

Hello... RUclips just suggested this video.. I have an 83 Mc-9 with the 6V92TA ... conversion. My VERY first time driving it "any bus" was during COVID lockdowns Through downtown Portland, Salem through the Santiam pass where it was all ice uphill and downhill with 7% grades... Man what a WHITE KNUCKLE DRIVE.... SCARED SHISTLESS... But she drove Great, stopped on a dime for such a beast.
I grew up riding greyhound and continental Trailways and fell in love with the 8V 71, 318 diesel engine, where they be a manual or automatic! Good sound 6:09
Long ago i grew up inside my country blessed by the music of the Detroit two stroke, and traveling in that buses PD 4103 until PD 4107 and more. Now i miss that sound, years ago i used to travel to USA and i could listen the sound of that engines in all the cities..... now i miss them include in americans cities.
Oh man that sound gives me the goosebumps. The distinctive smell inside. I rode these greyhound buses from Winnipeg all the way through ontario in my childhood years at Christmas time. Nice video man thanks
You should've pulled into the Greyhound station you passed on Gilbert. Unfortunately, it's gone now, and Greyhound picks up from the side of the road on Galbraith. Crazy times.

I can say it's not an ex Greyhound as it has the MCI lettering on the front and small rub guards. Some of Greyhounds dash 9s had the small rub guards, mainly the Canadian ones. Also, by 1981, Greyhounds dash 9s all had the 6v92.
On the 8100 and maybe 8200 series MC-9s, a lot of them seemed to have the rubber side rails. This was actually the base setup and the full size metal rails were an option. The Canada buses that had the flat bumpers with no rubber strips and the rubber side rails was the base no extra cost setup, anything different there was extra.
As someone who split my time between Greyhound layoffs, driving for charter outfits in the early 1980s, I can say that, while I can respect the reality of this video involving the driver and the camera operator in the back of the bus, if I were a passenger on this bus, with this guy driving this way, I would want to get up and slap him upside his head. When I drove buses, smoothness was a virtue. Tromping on, and then backing off the throttle, and then being heavy on the brakes, like this dude is doing, kept people awake. As a professional motor coach operator, the last thing the driver wants to see in the mirror, is over 40 sets of eyeballs leaning out in the aisle wondering what’s the hurry. The goal is to put them asleep. I accomplished this two ways. I drove smoothly and I cranked up the heat. To me, the din of 47 passengers in conversation was kryptonite. After a full day on a charter, that was the racket most likely to induce drowsiness. About this bus, the MC-9 is my absolute favorite among all of the buses I got to drive. I prefer one with the 5-speed manual transmission over the Allison automatic. The automatic, as can be seen in this video, is too clunky.
@Ricky Webster sadly our friend that owned it had sold it and the parts that he needed for it had been hard for him to find but trust me if he still had it i would of love to record more vids
Man I miss that sound! I drove my MC-9 for 14 years. Best machine I ever drove!
The MC9 was an absolute workhorse. There will never be another motorcoach as tough and reliable.
Never again sadly
The MC9 is the one up from the MC8 it's the 50th Anniversary of the motorcoach it's self. I've always like the sound of the classic detroit engine.
Man that 8v-71 is so fire wide open ! excellent video
Thank you 👌

Yeah, those old MCI's do have a smell
As a child of the 80s-1990s, what a familiar, beautiful sound! 🚌

My dad worked for Domenico Bus Service 79-92
Now that’s what I’m talking about!!! Man these childhood memories riding these MCI MC9s man.

This is the best simulation of riding a V8 Detroit vehicle. The 71 series coaches and the 92 series fire engines all sounded like this 🥲
that bus sounds so good
Don't it 😆
That's an impressive sound.
I spent a lot of hours in these in my 20s. Love these workhorses
Bruh is pushing 💪🏾💥
Use to LOVE driving these!
Beautiful!!!!!!!!!! , I would love to own one of those.

very good video
Thank you 😊
Screaming 8 v71 ❤
I’m jealous, I miss driving the 9, and 12’s can’t beat that MCI lean
Evening drive, that's funny. Think I'll go take a little cruise in my bus. 😀
i could tell this bus was well taken care of
It was came from my school in Arkansas
I love that sound when she’s slowing down…classic!!!

Correct me if I’m wrong but it sounds like a 8V71N or 6V92TA Detroit Diesel engine with HT740 Allison Transmission in that MCI MC9 Crusader 2 Coach
U had it right it is a 8v71
There nothing better than this 42 foot steel box.
Damn, that's a mean sound!
I NEED THE MCI BUS TWO TRAVEL WITH IN MY AND MY WIFE'S MINISTRY
I sold it to a Church
Wow. MCI. 🌵😃👍
