- Here I am again, following a really well taken care of old bus! This bus operates for a group of churches somewhere within the states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. And as you can hear... This thing is LOUD AS HELL!!! Guaranteed to make your ears ring! Enjoy!
Detroit Diesel 8V71N
DANA 4 Speed Manual
That is a Greyhound muffler!
If an MC9 was purchased privately, it had a quieter muffler.
Nice video ... GREAT driver who knows how to handle that 5 speed manual transmission ... I fell in love with those coaches 30 years ago ....
Yeah he's definitely working that 5 speed got to get the RPMs high
It's like a Symphony of glorious diesel angels
Man! That 8V71N is tuned just about right! Runs very well from what I can hear and see!
What a sweet sound. That driver is a total professional in working that transmission. He is in totally control of that machine.
Good ole 2 cycle sound!!! I miss seeing and hearing the ole detroit diesels thanks for sharing! Awesome video
Great video, I love MCIs. I actually own two. My 102DL3 has a 8V92. I love the sounds in this video, i wish mine was tuned like the one in your video.
That's what's up man like the sound of that just like the Greyhound the good old days
Now THAT's my kind of bus I definitely miss hearing... Those good ol' deep-bass beasts will definitely sends chills down your spines... Excellent vid!
is this bus for sale
@@MarkGreen-pp3qy I don't live in the area, so I couldn't tell you if it's for sale.
Brought tears in my eye's to hear that bus and think of my mom! Thank you!
Impressive to see how those wide gears are letting that bus move around so quick with only 4 speeds. Moving 15 tons of bus like it is a small Honda or a Toyota. The trans and engine are perfectly matched. A different kind of beast.
It's actually a 5 speed fuller transmission... some of them do have Dana 4 speeds though.
i so want to drive that bus i can not stop watching this i love that engine with a passion
Thanks for sharing. Sounds amazing.
One thing I can't seem to find out is what the last year a 2 Stroke Detroit was able to be ordered.
The latest year I've seen was a 1996 MCI -12 for sale with if I remember correctly had a 8v92ta.
If anyone knows the last year a 2 Stroke could be ordered, whether in a couch bus (any manufacturer) or transit and school bus I'd much appreciate it.
Keep up the great videos 👍👍
Greyhounds 1996 MCI MC12s were the last buses to come with 2 Stroke Detroits, and as far as I know 1996 is the last year any over the road vehicles got 2 Strokes... There's an 8V92 powered fire engine from '96 in Upper Darby that I use to see pretty often.
The gearbox is Synchronized, so it must be the Eaton 5 Speed. The old Spicer 4, would have him blip the throttle and double clutch between shifts to ease it into the next gear.
No, not synchronized and he is double clutching I bet, a throttle blip is not required, just have to be quick and hit the next gear at the right rpm. The 5-speed needs quicker shifting than the 4-speed. I liked and drove them both but still something about that 4-speed I liked better.
The engine sounds so cool, it reminds me when I was a kid and travel to Lima from the city of Piura, a 14 hours ride and getting thru different towns on the way at 5:30 am. on which the only sound in that quiet town was the rumbling rooar of the bus! Thanks for sharing this video 👍
Thanks for watching! I'm always happy to evoke good memories!
@@neoplandude2932that boy ain't nothing but the truth
that's the best sounding bus ever heard
man I he could find another bus that sound like that like
Damn it looks like it sure accelerates nicely
man I no you got other bus videos but this one oh man
Mean exhaust sounds from that bus
HOLY LORD!! DAYUM! I am without WORDS!!
I got a new one up with a 6V92 in it, check it out you might like it!
BEAUTIFUL
You were doin' it right filming this!
Apparently was muffler had a hole in it, or the resonator was busted, they shouldn't be that loud
Hole in muffler for sure 👍
@@archiemadison764 Repair the muffler and resonator ASAP
That bus is in philly
Dude that 8V71 is just unbelievable! That exhaust sound is just incredible! Would've been much better with an Allison HT740 automatic behind it...with high shift RPM's!
Except you loose about 40% of your mpg to the automatic.... from 11 or so down to 8mpg at 55mph.
Excellent recording of the 8v71👍🏽
These buses made GREYHOUND
You are dead wrong, the iconic 1954
ScenicCruser is the bus that made
Greyhound.
runnin wide open Detroit love that!!!
Ah a good ol screaming jimmy , just as god intended
Woooooooooo shit I am finished!!!! That bus needs to stay around forever lol.
Buen dia mi opinion este es el autobus de las carreteras el mejor.
I could be wrong, but that could be in its former life, a Kraph's Bus Lines MC9 out of West Chester, Pa.
man can you enjoy the sound of that 8v71 N Detroit diesel engine with the ht 740 Allison automatic transmission or 5speed manual transmission krapf'scoaches use to have three of them before when I was a kid and a teenager when they come in to Atlantic City for charters they don't make them anymore like they used to be enough of those mci D Series buses and the j4500 junk buses give me an older mci buses from the past and I'll do me a greyhound lines tribute of the 70s -90s the mci mc12 buses I'll just give them round headlights and the 8v71 N or 8v92 TA anolog or DDEC Detroit diesel engine with the greyhound lines tribute to the 70s paint scene or do a classic tours paint scene or maybe njtransit harran coach ways or something to do with the front end of the mci mc12 buses the look almost like the mcimc9 crusader ii coaches like that church bus it wasn't a greyhound lines bus and I'm wrong but greyhound use to have a thousand of those buses back then when they were in service until 2001
Calvin Crews that’s what’s up for real
Calvin Crews that’s what’s up
Tell me about man
Calvin Crews them eagle model 10 in 15 back in 1978 they can get down to
Calvin Crews that boy ain’t nothing but the truth
find one thats straight pipe for real
I love detroits but that roar in the last 3 rows gets annoying from philly to new York. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Green Gremlin child for life but there are times that you just want to enjoy your bus ride in peace.
I somewhat agree... But I'd definitely rather hear a Detroit in the background than a loud annoying passenger lol.
@@neoplandude2932 Cheers to that
One of the best Buses I ever drove.
would someone please let me know how i could meet up to drive this bus!!! ill pay to do it!!!
Did the driver of the bus know you? If he didn’t I bet he was getting paranoid about the car following him.
No, he didn't know us lol. I've relaxed alot with following buses just for the fun of it because it tends to make drivers feel uneasy.
with a Detroit.
The Detroit V6 is not as loud as the V8. This bus is not an ex Greyhound as all their dash 8's and dash 9's had automatic transmission; which to me is the way to go in a bus. The Spicer 4 speeds are junk. The Fuller 5 speeds manuals were some what better as far as shift smoothness.
I love automatics too more than manuals in these... especially if you hook a ZF up to a Detroit in a transit bus, then they can roll out!!! But yeah I heard you on the 4 speed stuff, I could even smell the clutch burning on this bus lol. Thanks for the info btw!
If you use the 6V92 muffler on the 8V71 it will be much louder and sound good! The turbo acted like a mini muffler so you didn't need the same baffles in the muffler like on the 8V71, it was also much cheaper so that's what most companies did, use the cheaper (and louder) 6V92 muffler on their 8V71.
Very well maintained
Nice
Thanks for sharing
id love to drive that bus thats how i ran a old semi wind it up drive like you hate detroits like this need to be run wide open or you could blow the engine
Excelente video, muchas gracias espero encontrar muchos más cómo éste.
is this bus still around
Oh, there is also the vid of the MCI 96A3 with the 8V92 engine plus the Fuller 5-speed manual. Enjoy! ruclips.net/video/SLINZmFY-vM/видео.html
baul104 luigi do you have it on RUclips yet I've wanna see that bus because classic tours had 102 A3 coaches and B3 coaches now stouts transportation purchase classic tours out of business and they are memories now

gangster sound
that's what's up
off the chain
Excelentes buses ojalá los vuelvan a producir con los mismos motores y la tecnología actual.
I'm glad my greyhound bus don't. A sound like like this.
wait a Dana 4 speed manual transmission I've never heard of that I've thought it was a 5 speed manual transmission you tube got it right
Yea the DANA is an old type of transmission some of these had instead of Fuller 5 Speeds... It was only offered in the early-mid 80s if I remember correctly.
I believe the main reason why MCI changed from the 4 speed manual to a 5 speed was issues with the clutch being easily burned out with the 4 speed. I've heard a driver say if you got into a soft spot with the clutch in the 1st gear you could smoke/burn out the clutch. . I think the Fuller 5 speed was introduced around 1982.
Yea I believe that, I could actually smell the clutch a little when we took off near the highway on ramp
You can puting any video bus about Houston please
I don't think so. I wouldn't be able to make it to Houston for a long long time lol.
@@neoplandude2932 shit and lol
en mi pais les decimos TEPSA a esos omnibuses
muy interesante!
En el Peru les decimos TEPSA porque fue la empresa que los trajo y los uso casi en forma exclusiva durante 20 años con motores GMC.
Sounds good, not as loud as mine though XD
a blast from the past
wish i had one
I Like MCI MC 9's With An Automatic Transmission Because They're Much Quieter & They Ride More Comfortable To Me
