#LOST SOUNDTRACK ANALYSIS (Michael Giacchino's score)
So many years after the show's ending, Michael Giacchino's amazing soundtrack for LOST still has many, many secrets to uncover. Not only does every main character have their own theme music, but much like the interconnected writing of the show itself, Giacchino's score connects locations, scenes, emotions and conflicts in unbelievably brilliant ways. For the foreseeable future, I will be exploring Michael Giacchino's soundtrack from ABC's LOST in a weekly video, covering all episodes of the show and their musical connections to each other.

"Sundown" is a great composition by Giacchino. I love the way it winds in and out of a few different themes amidst the action. I remember being pleasantly surprised that Giacchino chose it for the 2016 Los Angeles concert (and the Dublin one as well I guess).
Also, I realized while watching this, I think this episode is the last time Ben and Sayid share a scene for the rest of the series.

I realized that while editing this as well! It's such a small moment, but Michael Emerson's face really sells it. Ben seems to genuinely want to help Sayid, but he then seems to realize Sayid has finally been f***ed up beyond repair... and he slowly backs away before running off. 😂

I missed the Catch a Falling Star callback during the episode and am shocked to see it in this context. Kuhpunkt (and others) during the show's run recognized that the song, the cork, the pearl station (pearl in sanksrit translates to fallen star), a Jimmy Fallon interview with Darlton, and Tricia Tanaka is dead all associated with the possibility of a comet hitting the island since there's a crater on the south coast. The song is also associated with the story The Little Prince, which was also an episode title for an Aaron centric I believe.

For some reason I just assumed that last week was what we got for Sundown (I didn't see the Part 1 title :P). Damn, this episode was more packed than I thought. I like all of the Temple music. I get that we didn't hear more from it, since there was no place later to put it that would fit. They never went back there. I bet that if the Temple was featured in "Across the Sea" we would get a glimpse again.
Lol, that Bohemian rhapsody easter egg! haha
I like how well connected everything is to "Catch a Falling Star". I guess when you mention at the end that it's the only orchestral composition with vocals, you don't count when Shannon sings "La Mer" in season 1 and Giacchino's piano starts to play? I guess it's not the same, since Shannon's singing fades away and Giacchino's music builds up instead.

I think it doesn't count because shannon is singing it in the show at the same moment. "Catch a falling star" voice is not involved in Sundown's scene.

Ooh, speaking of the Temple theme... I might bring that one up again later on. ;) It was fun to dive into an existing song for once, especially because it plays such a large role in Claire's storyline and the end of this episode. Good point about "La Mer", but I don't think it's entirely the same thing. The piano was not exactly paired up with the melody Shannon was singing, while Giacchino's arrangement of "Catch A Falling Star" was definitely meant to be one fully non-diegetic piece of music, vocals included.

What about the theme used during the Sayid Vs. Dogen battle?

The action track that plays during their fight scene is only heard the one time. Before and after their fight, the Temple theme plays; ruclips.net/video/ypO1X7IsWMM/видео.html

What was the point of Jacob bringing Claire to the island?

Jacob didn't bring her to the island. she is not a candidate (not in the cave's list)

@@M4ke4l So Jacob (the good guy) didn't care that a young pregnant woman would probably die in a plane crash? Just so some other people could come to the island?

@@Amberlynn_Reid That sounds about right. 😉 It wouldn't be the first time Jacob risked the lives of countless people for the "greater good". But even if Claire herself is not a Candidate, she played an important part in the lives of Jack and Kate on the island. One of the reasons Jack was desperate to return was because he'd left his half-sister behind. There still is an argument to be made that either Jacob, Widmore or some other party was involved in Claire's arrival through the psychic, Richard Malkin... But Malkin's motivations were never exactly confirmed.

I think it could be argued that Claire was a candidate earlier in the show, but that Jacob crossed her off cause she became a mother. He says this is the reason Kate got crossed off. And I think in the cave you can see the name Littleton crossed off.
