Hisokas Burner Alcohol may actually calm certain people into talking more concisely. It happens to me, too. Alcohol is a depressant, so all it does is reduce the processes in the brain. It removes what can be called the limiter. If you’re a violent person inside but don’t allow yourself to be violent, you become violent on alcohol. In the case of Echidnut and me, on alcohol, our talkative and eloquent inner voice finds the surface and is not held back by our normal, physical voice. Either that, or he drank a little bit of alcohol or not at all and then used reverse psychology by making us underestimate him as the stereotypical drunk; thus, upon hearing his intelligent video, our opinion of him will supersede by a large amount our underestimation of him.
Hanna Jang I feel like it might slowly lean toward Rem later on in the series. Like during the first 3/4 arcs, we already know that Subaru loves Emilia, but it’s entirely possible the he realizes how much he loves Rem. He even admitted that he loved her, just not as much as he loves Emilia. Even if that doesn’t come true, there’s the side story where Rem does run away with Subaru, so that satisfies the ship either way.

Subaru loves Emilia because she's consistent. Every time he dies and goes down a new path, people change. Rem changed, Ram changed, Krusch changed, they all were different people in certain timelines, but throughout the entire time, Emilia never changes. She's sincere and earnest every single time Subaru meets her. It's the only thing that Subaru can tangibly hold onto in this world.

I don't believe the characters change, more like subaru acted differently, resulted in a different response from other people. My theory is, every time subaru dies, the world splits, and subaru's consciousness gets transported to the new world and back to the checkpoint So there are worlds out there with subaru and whoever else, just dead

That world gets overcome with darkness as subaru isn’t there to protect everyone. The only thing return to death does is transport him to another timeline not rewinding time
Now the real reason: remember that part where Rem killed Subaru? yeah... *IT WAS WORSE* that it was shown in the anime what Rem was doing was to dismember Subaru and heal him over and over again with the goal of get information of who Subaru was working with, in the anime it was shown as if the reason she healed him was because of pity but no. THIS WAS ONLY BRUTAL TORTURE that only God (and the author) knows how long it lasted then after Rem finishes doing this to Subaru numerous times is that we see the mental crackdown of Subaru in the anime that starts yelling at Rem how he feels then Rem just takes out Subaru's throat and leaves him to die in there. Honestly the fact that Subaru pardon her is pretty impressive on its own, but he probably hasn't forgotten what she did

Crusch didn't fall for the MC, so she is automatically a better character than Rem and Emilia, so yeah, she deserves to be called "best girl". Aka, the best female character in the series.
In Subaru's place i would have chosen Emilia too. I couldnt get over the fact that Rem had once, well, murdered him to death. I would still like and respect her, but i wouldn't get over it.

Subaru comes in this world, Completely clueless. Everyone treated like crap. Emilia was who saved him. He died by emilia's side. People seem to forget that he reaches for emilia's hands and in his mind while dying he says"i will save you" after a couple of loops. Subaru askes for emilia's name and when she smiled. It gave him a satisfaction that everything did was worth it. Emilia takes subaru into her home. Episode 8, after getting killed by rem in episode 7. He tried his best to get the twins trust.he wasn't acting himself and it got to the point and made sick. Emilia notices this and gave him a pillow lap letting him cry his eyes out. The problem with subaru season 1 that he only focused on emilia good traits. He basically saw emilia as a prize not a human being. Season 2, subaru develops perspective about Emilia. He now loves for who she is. Arc 7, 8, and 9 would Developed Emilia perspective/feelings torwards and make her Express her affection. Remember, Subaru's purpose is Emilia. She is the reason why he dies. And Emilia makes him calm down. Just by presence Subaru feels calm and warmth. She is the reason why for all of his death. Rem motivated him and he does care about rem. But, rem needs to be with her sister, she can still support subaru though. I just see more development for Subemilia in the following arcs because their relationship isn't perfect. Both parties consent, and will learn something in the end. Emilia will learn to be better understand her feelings and finally finds someone who loves her for who she is. And Subaru will finally know that everything he did to save/protect Emilia and make Emilia fall for him was worth it. Both parties in the end, will face off satella together. I mean what's the point of winning. when you got noone to shout Victory with.

Being what you call a "blind and hypocritical Rem fan", I'd want to point out the Rem's side of this controversy. I find it more enjoyable to see Rem actually fighting the competition and earning her place in his head and heart by her actions and words and unstoppable feelings. Every moment she appears later in the novels are fueled with the power unlike anything Emilia can produce. Emilia makes Subaru want, Rem makes Subaru do.

Your drunken rambling was far more sensible than those who watched the show with waifu goggles on. lol Although I'm a bit annoyed about the added polygamy thing which somehow got skipped for reasons unexplained. That said, I was wowed by Rem in the anime alone (she was quite on-point) but I'm no longer a fan of Rem after I read the skipped content regarding the same. At the same time, it opens up a lot on the conflicted nature of Subaru and Rem's complicated personality but knowing Tappei, he is likely to use this as a source of inner conflict within Subaru (which may be seen later on in Arc 4). I say this because the anime made me fall under the assumption that Rem understood the whole message of 'self-worth' or 'self-value' instead of being a 'second' or 'compromise' person. Her 'second wife' dialogue and the faked-death in the LN/WN totally undid the charm I got from the anime version of Rem, but oh well, guess Tappei has other plans for her character. :/ Speaking of season 1 alone, it felt rather plausible and heartwarming to see Subaru stay committed to Emilia (in a way how Rem x Subaru had developed). Now with this polygamy in the mix, it would have just made the anime's ending feel rather different and Subaru's conviction...half-hearted? Not sure how to explain this well with my anti-polygamy stance. Also, not sure if this is a stroke of genius or not but the entire dynamic is whole kinds of weird/fascinating. In the eyes of other characters, if we consider the canon timeline where Subaru has successfully progressed the checkpoints (hasn't 'died' in the eyes of others), he is most likely to be perceived as an absolute alpha mad-chad who simply knows what needs to be done. This furthermore explains why people are outright suspicious/doubtful around him. To clarify, keeping our perspective in the same canonical timeline, Subaru enters Emilia Camp(ep3), decides to save Rem(ep10), gets shunned by Emilia (ep13), in response to which he quits Crusch Camp and tries to run away (ep18), to which Rem offers him the same advice about believing in one's self-worth she had gotten from him, to which he nearly knows just about everything that needs to be done to make it up with Emilia (events up to ep25). With this canonical timeline we get to draw a parallel, seeing how much Rem has fallen for Subaru in such a short span of time, much like how Subaru had similarly fallen for Emilia. The only difference being that Sufferu is aware of the major details. I had presumed Subaru to come to the conclusion that in this particular timeline, Rem hasn't had any of those painful moments with him that led him to the present state, hence he rejected her as the last thing he should have done is to falsely lead her on. Like he can have strong feelings arise for Rem but it would cast a doubt over his present feelings towards Emilia and everything he had done for her. Thus, it fit very well with the characterization seen in the anime so far. Anyway, all said, I have made it a point to consider that these characters are immature and haven't fully thought through any of the consequences properly. Testing waters as they say. It's too idealistic of a scenario and arguably detrimental to the characterizations if the polygamy is bound to happen. The anime didn't paint this picture, which is why this is one of the rare cases where I prefer the adaptation over the source. haha ps : this is 6 shots of jaegerbombs and me talking. You make a very solid point and I wish I acknowledged it in the video. The characters are indeed very immature and still have a lot of growth awaiting them. Hopefully in season 2 Subaru will realize that he can't realistically maintain two waifus. I too have the same anti-polygamy stance and I hope Tappei does away with the slightly harem-esque patterns we're seeing in this love triangle. Polygamy would suppress the greatness a lot of us see in this series but I think Tappei is intelligent enough to understand that, considering the direction he's taking Rem's character in the WN. Wait, isn’t everyone technically immature in some way. No, I understand that the idea is that the Re:Zero characters are imperfect and make a lot of simple mistakes. I’m only 19, but doesn’t every person make mistakes throughout their existence, even adults? What I am trying to convey is that using immaturity for all of the characters in this context can be a little too much. Maybe, even the word “mature” may give a wrong impression to readers when it comes to storybuilding. “Mature characters” would mean that they have hit some point where growth is not needed. But if we look at stories like that, we see that the MC may be portrayed as a Gary or Mary Stu, like Kirito. Such characters seem like if they don’t have any story because they didn’t grow much. There are static characters, but the round characters, the characters that change - they seem to create way more interesting stories and conflicts which can cause the experiencer of the story to learn a lot from them. And even the mature characters should have a lot to learn; Otherwise, in most cases, the story would feel incomparable to real life people. I agree with everything else. The polygamy reduces the specialness of their love which also reduces the conflict in the story. The love experienced by both girls and the guy is weaker if shared. It is more common and less special or outstanding. Basically, a love that is shared by just one guy and just one girl would find even more emotion if another guy or girl’s love was turned down. It would make that love more valuable because it becomes scarce to only two. The love feels warmer and the sad rejection toward the rejected feels warm, too. Even the sadness of the rejection makes the story more beautiful. I haven’t read into the LN or WN (only a little in Japanese), but I do feel the high-quality story, symbols, characters, and energy of Tappei’s and the other creators’ work. There are other possible progressions for the story, such as a certain circular-loop-timeline theory, but any way Tappei takes in progressing the story will be fine. Re:Zero already has been set up so well that there’s little way to screw up the investment people already have in the story. Surely, the polygamy thing dilutes the story, but after it is introduced, it also seems that removing it later can actually spring forth more beauty out of the scarcity of such story. Having a scarce love become diluted by polygamy and then “re-scarce-ified” by removing the polygamy may actually increase the value of such love and story (as long as no sexual lines are crossed). I’ll just leave this anecdote (probably false) with y’all if anyone has actually read my comment up to this point: A land without gold may find a lot of value in such a scarce metal that they find. But a land that knew of gold and lost it, they may find even more value in the memory of their encounter. Thank you.

Compared to how I was several years ago and how I am now, I can confidently say that I am functionally a better human being in many aspects and that includes how I try to perceive and critically understand things. As far as maturity is concerned that is. Also, I daresay that I see a near-identical former shell of myself in Subaru all those years back. This however isn't to say that once a person matures, they will magically never make mistakes again. Like you said, we really are not perfect beings and we are prone to making mistakes. A rather small but ubiquitous example is one where we need to wrap up some important task with a deadline but we end up procrastinating all the way to the end. I too commit these mistakes every now and then, even if they are done on a significantly lesser scale than before (one of many the reasons why I say I am functionally a better human being). Maturity in this context would just mean a person is less likely to commit the same mistakes due to the added responsibilities they need to fulfill and think through as an adult. Re:zero has similar things scattered in it too! Tappei has taken effort to write characters like that: they make mistakes frequently before eventually ironing it out by them considering things critically or carefully. All being said, my point of immaturity in my comment discussion was centered around Subaru and Rem. They do display several traits of obsessing over someone to the point that it is unhealthy for themselves. To me, this feels intentional by Tappei for setting up Subaru later on, since the plot development is quite intertwined with how Subaru's character development is. The immaturity I speak of also includes the odd hypocrisy(for lack of a better word) around polygamy. Covering some major character aspects for them (not going beyond Season 1): Subaru erroneously falls under the impression that he is entitled to Emilia because he has been doing several things for her (cf: his behaviour in Episodes 12 and 13 are rather quite indicative of it, all the way up to their heated argument). He mistakenly assumes Emilia's empathy as her being this angel who totally gets all of his problems (cf: the lap pillow scene). In his rage and having his 'pride' hurt by getting wrecked by Julius, he may not have understood Emilia when she said "the version of me inside you must be amazing, she can understand everything even if you don't tell her anything" (cf: Episode 13 end). With Rem's confession, he decides to become the hero in a proper way and see Emilia for he she is and not keep doing things to satisfy his own ego (something Rem is unaware of, since she really isn't aware of anything that Subaru has done or is going through). Rem is a person who has an inferiority complex, stemming from her childhood comparisons with Ram and how she regrets feeling happy when her sister's demon horn was cutoff. She lives her life for somebody else (her sister) and thinks of herself as second-grade/replacement. She unfortunately falls head over heels for Subaru when in fact Subaru was just trying to get on the good side of the maid sisters (post the Mabeast fight). Subaru had advised Rem not to be harsh on herself and carry self-respect around the fact that she is her own person. The anime did a great job in carrying this development for Rem and she did seem like a person who is taking steps to grow her own wings. However, with the polygamy bit added in the WN/LN , I got busy scratching my head around what just happened. It completely belied my impressions on Rem and Subaru, because of the reasons I had mentioned in my original post a year back. I have only read the WN version, which in particular was rather blatant about Subaru awkwardly but gleefully thinking to himself that he was getting both Rem and Emilia to himself, even though he leaves such a decision onto Emilia. I hear the LN tones down the blatant harem-like vibes but I have yet to read it. (PS: I abhor harem, both as a concept and a solution, due to similar reasons you have stated. It is no wonder why it never took off as a normal thing everywhere, even if we set aside religious and irreligious beliefs. It is kind of a mood killer for me in fiction as well.) Anyhow, this made me wonder what was Subaru doing in this place, because it again felt like he was doing it all for himself in the end. It also made Rem's character development, appear like no character development. She pressed on the topic of polygamy onto him, where she says she is satisfied with being just the second wife. In her eyes, she considers herself inferior to Emilia. Much to my surprise, Subaru readily agreed to it on a whim and Rem followed up by saying she would do her best to make it happen. I thought of this as a joke and continued reading further. Later on, she goes all the way into manipulating Subaru into confessing to her by faking her death after the Whale fight, to which Subaru becomes psychologically distraught and says he will never let another man lay his hands on her. Rem basically shifted how she sees her sister, onto Subaru. This was evident from how she went on a suicide spree for him against his wishes (in her words " he is her reason to kill/live", or something like that). Like, I get that she is totally into him. The memory snow OVA made it rather obvious by turning Rem into "Yes-girl" to Subaru . However, why did she have to demote herself as the second-grade unit yet again? How come a slow but conscious effort to make Subaru look at her way need to turn out rash and manipulative instead? (keeping in mind that she seemed to have developed as a character, like how the anime portrayed her). So yeah, this stark contrast is what upset me a lot. That said, I really feel your sentiment of "Having a scarce love become diluted by polygamy and then 're-scarce-ified' by removing the polygamy may actually increase the value of such love and story", and thus, I do hope things turn out like that. Knowing how Tappei writes stuff, he goes through several angles to put Subaru in a tight spot by bringing out his immaturity and indecisiveness. I have come to terms with how things have played out. It's just that Rem used to be a favourite character of mine until I went through the contents of the WN. So, I guess this is just some pent-up angst of mine against Tappei getting released every now and then. I just hope he does Rem's character some justice, but even those hopes are kind of drowned if you know of the skipped scene in the anime where Aldebaran becomes really angry upon hearing who Rem is (the manga version includes this conversation). It was a completely bizzare, "what the f***" type of conversation too! Haha.
The Anchor bias pretty much always happens in any anime. First girl the main protagonist finds he will ALWAYS fall in love with and choose over everyone else. Even if the others girls are 'Better' for him, that is not how the human mind works and while it pisses people off its true like you said in the video.
That is very true I belive that this is also very true in the types of women we like in real life, I believe that the first woman outside your family that shows a type of affection that you feel there is no need to be given to you by someone outside your family will impact the type of women you are attracted to since at the end of the day it will create a mental image of what kind of woman would be attracted to you, and the first major rejection will have the same impact in the opposite way. Basically for me I am really attracted to certain characteristics, like a dark coloured wardrobe, piercings, and the type of emo chick in a way, I also have a tendency to like chicks who are into things that dudes are into because the first girl to ever show me any semblance of romantic affection and a girl I was really infatuated with was the emo punk rock type of chick and a bit of a tomboy, and because of that I have associated that type of woman in my mind to who is attracted to me, and whilst that is most definitely not a universal truth it marks who I tend to notice more often than not when I see women out on the wide world. By no means does it mean that I am in fact only attracted to that type of woman, since obviously I might see someone who just catches my eye, like this one time I was leaving school and I see this lady with a white summer dress and a white hat, and I barely even have enough time to notice her but as she passed me by I felt this feeling of being drawn and magnetized to her like I was being pulled, and unfortunately being the coward I was at the time I just sort of followed her until our paths diverged (she was walking on the direction I went to take my ride home) and I never talked to her, and I never saw her again, I think she had black hair though I might be wrong I can't really remember too much in detail apart from the feeling of being tugged by something I couldn't explain.
He loves Emilia because she may be a half elf but she's more human than any character. Rem is just too perfect. Emilia on the other hand is stubborn, and at times useless, she's kinder than any character, she's smart but is not able to take subtle hints. Subaru himself said in arc 4 that if it wasn't Emilia he would have stopped loving her a long time ago. But he's just so madly in love with her that her strong points shine brightly in his eyes and her weaknesses give him a chance to see her new sides. That's just true love and it can not be changed even if it was to be a thousand times better confession (if it's even possible) from Rem than what she made. True love just can not be changed with words no matter how sparkly those words are.
@Tum Tum Also Rem is loved so much for her speech/confession that happened in just one episode. And I admit that Rem has done a lot for Subaru but people that watch Rezero tend to forget all the fucked up things that she did to him too. He was at the point of mental breakdown in episode 8 when Emilia comforts him and makes sure that he gets through it. It is so understandable why Subaru chose Emilia over Rem. But people don't wanna see it. Nobody can understand how Subaru feels. It's because nobody has ever experienced dying brutally by someone's hands and then have them confess their love for you. For me it's amazing that Subaru can even stay in the same room as Rem without having PTSD. Forgiving her is one thing but people expect him to reciprocate Rem's feelings. I think that's just going too far. Anyways, like I said nobody can ever understand how Subaru feels. After everything this guy goes through nobody has the right to question his choices. If this guy wanted to fuck Arnold Schwarzenegger in his ass then he should get to fuck Arnold Schwarzenegger in his ass.😂 I have to admit that people that have read the story of Rezero after the anime ended actually do like Emilia a lot. Only those that are anime only are the ones who so passionately say that Rem is the best girl when in reality it's actually a lot closer than people realize. And because Emilia is the author's favourite character, you can just imagine the kind of monologue that would cement her as the ultimate best girl by the end of the series. If there's one thing that Tappei Nagatsuki is good at, it's writing some of the best monologues in the anime history. Subaru's love for Emilia is honestly just infatuation. He literally fell in love with her in like 5 minutes, and I don't find her that human either as she literally goes out of her way to help anyone in need. Like no one really does that. Rem is nice but only to the ones she cares about. That is way more human than helping every person you see. Subaru's love for Emilia is a little unnatural. Subaru's true love to Emilia is just her appearance.

As far as his infatuation is considered, the author addresses it in arc 4 and 5. And Subaru now loves Emilia for more than just how she looks. If anything Rem's love for Subaru comes off as total 180 of how she killed Subaru in past timelines. Believe it or not love at first sight happens in this world and is so much more believable than someone that could kill you but is now in love with you.
@@TheReaIestOne It was not JUST a confession. Subaru was in an all-new low in his mental state when Rem had to heal him back to his arrogant, confidant self. He was about to give up on life and just live a married life with Rem, however he was rejected because she only wanted the best for Subaru. If she agreed, she knew Subaru would have likely regretted his decision later on. For NOW Rem should be seen as best girl in the anime, however I won't doubt the high possibility that Emilia could surpass Rem in popularity when the anime finishes airing. While I really like Rem as a character, I do wish that she wasn't so willing to become Subaru's side-chick or slave. Rem and Subaru are both too obsessed with their love interests if I'm being honest. Also Rem is probably more popular because of her cute attitude around Subaru after she falls in love with him. This is very charming, meanwhile Emilia's personality is sort of lacking in terms of charm and intrigue. I understand the flaws about Rem, and why Subaru might not love him, but I find Emilia to be even lower and unlikable as a character. Either way, Subaru's infatuation with Emilia is unnatural, and Rem's undying loyalty to Subaru is excessive. I just feel bad for Rem because if she does not get with Subaru, it'll probably be really hard for her to find another male to fall in love with. After fixing her depressing mentality completely, I doubt any male could compete with Subaru in Rem's mind. If there was another character introduced for Rem to fall in love with, he'd better do some heroic shit like Subaru otherwise people will get triggered that Rem and Subaru didn't get together. Rem and Subaru actually love each other a lot as well. They're sort of in an intimate relationship as in the light novel, Rem and Subaru were about to kiss after killing the white whale, however they were interrupted by Ferris/Felix. The fact that Rem and Subaru both love each other a lot and Rem did more for Subaru than Emilia just adds salt to the wound because Subaru loves Emilia more.

ok hear me out I know im late. in my eyes the anime is about love, not just romantic love but love of all kind, Subaru wouldn't be trying to save anyone if he didn't care for them in some way. he loves the children of the village as a brother or cousin would, he loves the mansion members as a family and friend group, he loves rem almost as much as emila. love isn't a thing that can be put in one box and it doesn't really make sense how it works, that's why he chose emila, to show the confusing emotion of love.

you know this kinda happens in arc 6 again, Massive spoilers but, when Subaru loses his memories this same thing happens again but just with Patrache instead, cause Patrache is the first living being to show Subaru that she genuinely cares for him by sacrificing herself to buy him some more time when Satella attacks the watch tower.
I am not gonna watch the rest cause I haven't read the web novel, but something else you could consider is that he died with Emilia a couple of times. This was also the first few times he had ever experienced any kind of physical trauma (to my knowledge). Shared trauma can often lead to feelings of attachment and romance. It is why it is historically documented that many soldiers fell in love (historically, being homosexual relationships, and even more so in societies which don't look down on that). In fact, it is actually especially common for very militaristic societies in the ancient world to be very homosexual (like ancient Greece--just look up ancient Greek homosexuality if ur both interested and comfortable with doing that). So I think the anchoring bias alongside the sharing of his first traumatic experiences work together toward this. You make some other interesting points too, but I could see the common idea of him being an intended archbishop for Satella and her cursing him to love her and Emilia looking like her being the reason why as well. I actually like him with both of them anyhow, although I think Crusch is best girl.
I’ve heard that Emilia will get more time in the spotlight when Season 2 comes out, and as she is now I like her. The thing is, I think Ram is very underrated and potentially close to if not as good as Rem. However, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think Crusch was best girl. Absolutely amazing waifu.

Ik it's been a while since this video was posted... but I'm just gonna copy-paste what I posted somewhere else already here it's more regarding the scene where Subaru "rejects" Rem People who hate Subaru for "rejecting" Rem act as if they're completely oblivious to the fact that it was Subaru who approached Rem with the intent of running away and abandon Emilia in the first place in the anime. Not Rem confessing to her feelings for the first time to Subaru. But Rem couldn't accept Subaru's proposal. Rem already knew Subaru had feelings for Emilia and she had already accepted it. She was probably going to keep suppressing her own feelings because she not only loved Subaru but also respected him as a person, but due to this situation, she decided to reveal it anyway in order to push Subaru, and it worked. And she was aware of the outcome. She had no remorse from the "rejection". If Rem had run away with him she'd just be lying to herself because the Subaru she fell in love with isn't the type of coward who'd run away and she knew that very well too. So you could say, it was Rem rejecting Subaru and not the other way around. This is about the main anime canon, ignoring the Sloth IF story (Rem spin-off) which is a What IF story
I for one love re zero it immediately took my number one spot for best anime I've seen and I don't like to watch other forms of video often aside from anime I I'm not entirely sure that Subaru even actually likes Emilia in that way I have noticed very quickly my first time watching it. Subaru is incurably enslaved to his pride in which I do believe he is the sin Pride pride is a very tricky thing when you try to figure it out it can cause you to make the wrong decisions and be so completely certain that you are making the right ones Subaru has done this many times it happened when he spoiler spoiler spoiler flipped out on Emelia after the fight with (cant remember his name) the purple haird knight he just couldn't get past his pride he even thought so that the audience could know that he did not want to be saying those horrible things to he was saying and even after announcing this to the viewers he continued to speak on behalf of his pride none of that moment was for Emilia he knew that while he was saying it I don't think that he actually loves her but instead I think it's his pride that once he latched onto something AKA Emilia he refused so dearly to let go that he had to be the one in control because he is incurably prideful. But the difference between Emilia and REM isram loves Subaru due to his pride he is her hero because of that Pride that keeps him as he is who he is Ram loves who he is she loves that Pride that keeps him so strong or so her eyes shape so when he breaks down she immediately wants to replace that Pride restoring her hero basically doing anything she can to repay that debt well very well knowing but she never planned to leave his side since those moments rum even understand that there are certain things that he'd simply cannot say yes she doesn't question it he may be stuck with his Pride forcing him towards Amelia I think you're right I think he does love REM just as much if not more as what he thinks he cares about for Amelia but again is there a rash blind following of his pride leads him to make the wrong decisions he tried to lie to REM and I think that's why he was able to say that he wanted to run away with her because he lied that isn't what he wanted he wanted to save everyone his pride wanted him to be victorious and the world around him continuously breaking him down any normal person would have lost their minds well beforehand if in his shoes when you think about it logically inevitably he could just go through it like a breeze you know why spoilers but it's the fact that he feels at all that it actually happens and no one remembers it and he can't tell them would drive you insane to lose your mind as he has quite a few times but it's REM who has brought him back from what seems to be so far the darkest pit he's been in yet re zero is an anime that I love not just because the animation style is Awesome with a storyline is so amazing or even just a simple character design who they are would I love the most about re zero is you almost can't trust any of it they always throw you curveballs and if I could be honest what my prediction for this anime is is that if Subaru does find a path where he saves everybody entirely I don't think he'll be able to be there I think you will be in an endless loop I think that it will be him and his pride and struggling with his self it's actually the protagonist the enemy of the story Id love to discuss more if you are actually interested in those conversations.
I think Subaru and Emilia are doing what’s right. But I think that their existence is dangerous to the isekai. I don’t think it will be a loop, though. I expect a Your Name type ending, without going into deeper detail. But I trust Tappei that he will make the ending great regardless. To be honest, I don’t want a sad ending. But I don’t get the feeling that the story is going to end on a sad note. Hopefully it doesn’t.
Cause Emilia has the PURITY. Emilia never had resentment against him, he sees that she have compassion, sensibility, and benevolent desires.. and just as him, she wants to prove to the world that she could do good things, even when everyone is rejecting and discriminating her. That's why Subaru calls her an angel. Compare Emilia with the other candidates that trick and uses others in need, like corrupted politicians.. more the reason for him to support her and fulfill her dream. For her, I'm sure he'll do anything. I agree he also loves Rem, but we all know who is the N°1 in his heart.

GOD FUCKIGN DAMNIT I CANT WAIT FOR SEASON 2, I've been holding off on the light novels because I just experienced ReZero this month and figured I may as well watch all of season 2 then watch the light novels... Subaru is just following instructions from Isekai Survival Guide which clearly states "Find the first girl who talks to you and then follow her forever." He even began by doing some tests to see how powerful he is and which type of Isekaitis he has, just like the guide says.
Wow, I feel enlightened now. Those few scenes you described really change the context of that infamous scene between Rem and Subaru. I can't believe they cut those scenes out.
If what you're saying is true I would have made Subaru almost be hurt by the confession of Rem and made look like it hurt him to even say that he loves Emilia. This is only one way that would have helped this scene. Which I think would have changed the perception of this moment by a significant amount.
Not sure if this is spoilers, cause it´s baseless theory at this level, but I´m pretty sure Subaru falling in love with Emilia has something to do with Satella. I only read halfway to arc 5 and it´s been a while since I read it. I don´t think anything in that direction has been cleared up completly, but there´s a connection there much deeper than just his current self. I feel like Subaru must have had a past life with Satella.. and if he did and they were in love that would be explanation enough. My theories says that the first impression of subaru on that world was that it was like a game and Emilia was the female protagonist. Learning more about her made her he started to like her and the promise he made was important for him to give Emilia first priority. Season 2 spoilers ahead, if you don't want to see them then skip, but I'm not sure anyone who watches these videos hasn't seen season 2 yet so here it goes: Emilia has never once killed or hurt Subaru throughout all of the loops. She either tries to protect him or puts him at a distance, she has never gone out of her way to hurt him physically, emotionally, or mentally. You could say that the arc 3 fight was her going out of her way to emotionally hurt him, but that was not her intention there either; it was a slap in the face for Subaru and a wake up call to him, but not a way for her to hurt him. Even during the worst loop Subaru has had where everyone dies and Emilia goes insane during the trials, she doesn't hurt Subaru. In fact, she goes out of her way to comfort him until his dying breath, even if in a twisted way. Even at her worst, she has never been anything but a source of comfort and support for Subaru, assisting him in any capacity that she can. This has also grown over time as well, from arc 1 where she had no clue who he was to arc 3, where she was willing to hear him out at a moment's notice even after their fight (episode 17), even if Subaru sucks at taking advantage of the opportunity to tell her what is going on. In arc 4, she is a constant source of support for him, giving him a shoulder to cry on as well as someone to help set him straight gently over the arc. In the failed loops where he talks to the sane Emilia, she and him share several moments where she and Subaru both try and help each other. This shows her acting in a capacity similar to Rem while still being Emilia, showing that this was something that was always a potential outcome, but Subaru just kept her at a distance and alone for the first few arcs, insisting on trying to do things by himself. He attempts to face the ma beasts by himself, he attempts to deal with Julius by himself, and he tries to deal with the witch cult by himself before Rem wakes him up. I firmly believe after seeing season 2 that Emilia would have assisted him had he just asked for help. The reason why he doesn't like Rem the same way from the start is for a couple reasons. 1) she kills him multiple times. We have proof in season 2 that Subaru forgives but never forgets with the episode straight bet, where he flat out says that if he had to forgive Roswaal to accept him he couldn't do that. This shows his deaths stick with him and he remembers who kills him. We don't see him interact with Puck much in the second season and those short moments we do show a bit of distance on Subaru's side that wasn't there before, with him not attempting to get close to Puck in any capacity he usually did. So, having the first impression of her killing him isn't something he's going to get over instantly. 2) he already has developed a crush on Emilia. Subaru isn't a scumbag despite the impression he gives off sometimes. He genuinely cares for the people close to him and keeps to societal standards of Japan, which is monogamous. So, having already developed feelings for Emilia and seeing the potential for something there, Subaru ignores the feelings Rem has for him in an attempt to keep to societal standards.

Another reason that's a bit more left field: It's not uncommon for guys to get drawn to women that resembles their mom, and Emilia fits that shoe more than Rem She's naturally very kind and warm and feels a bit oblivious and absent minded in a cute way, thanks to their pure nature
Emilia is the only person in the main cast to not turn against Subaru in any loop. Ram, Rem, Puck, Roswald, and Otto all have and caused his death directly or indirectly. Only other character is Beatrice, but she’s like a baby.

Like during the first 3/4 arcs, we already know that Subaru loves Emilia, but it’s entirely possible the he realizes how much he loves Rem. He even admitted that he loved her, just not as much as he loves Emilia. Even if that doesn’t come true, there’s the side story where Rem does run away with Subaru, so that satisfies the ship either way.

Rem changed, Ram changed, Krusch changed, they all were different people in certain timelines, but throughout the entire time, Emilia never changes. She's sincere and earnest every single time Subaru meets her. It's the only thing that Subaru can tangibly hold onto in this world.

Subaru comes in this world, Completely clueless. Everyone treated like crap. Emilia was who saved him.
He died by emilia's side. People seem to forget that he reaches for emilia's hands and in his mind while dying he says"i will save you" after a couple of loops. Subaru askes for emilia's name and when she smiled. It gave him a satisfaction that everything did was worth it.
Emilia takes subaru into her home. Episode 8, after getting killed by rem in episode 7. He tried his best to get the twins trust.he wasn't acting himself and it got to the point and made sick. Emilia notices this and gave him a pillow lap letting him cry his eyes out.
The problem with subaru season 1 that he only focused on emilia good traits. He basically saw emilia as a prize not a human being.
Season 2, subaru develops perspective about Emilia. He now loves for who she is. Arc 7, 8, and 9 would Developed Emilia perspective/feelings torwards and make her Express her affection.
Remember, Subaru's purpose is Emilia. She is the reason why he dies. And Emilia makes him calm down. Just by presence Subaru feels calm and warmth. She is the reason why for all of his death. Rem motivated him and he does care about rem. But, rem needs to be with her sister, she can still support subaru though.
I just see more development for Subemilia in the following arcs because their relationship isn't perfect. Both parties consent, and will learn something in the end.
Emilia will learn to be better understand her feelings and finally finds someone who loves her for who she is. And Subaru will finally know that everything he did to save/protect Emilia and make Emilia fall for him was worth it.
Both parties in the end, will face off satella together.

People are just braindead. The most funny thing is that they don't understand, that if they state that Subaru's love for Emilia makes no sense, then Rem's love for Subaru also makes no sense, since their(Subaru and Rem's) love circumstances are identical. Both were saved by their love interest, both were in the similar stagnant mental state. So if Rem's emergence of love for Subaru is justified, then why Subaru's isn't? Lol. More than that, in Rem's case it is less likely to arise, because of her hatred for the witch cult. Makes no sense, they said. His reasons to love Emilia are obvious. Being what you call a "blind and hypocritical Rem fan", I'd want to point out the Rem's side of this controversy.
I find it more enjoyable to see Rem actually fighting the competition and earning her place in his head and heart by her actions and words and unstoppable feelings. Every moment she appears later in the novels are fueled with the power unlike anything Emilia can produce.
Emilia makes Subaru want, Rem makes Subaru do.

Although I'm a bit annoyed about the added polygamy thing which somehow got skipped for reasons unexplained. That said, I was wowed by Rem in the anime alone (she was quite on-point) but I'm no longer a fan of Rem after I read the skipped content regarding the same. At the same time, it opens up a lot on the conflicted nature of Subaru and Rem's complicated personality but knowing Tappei, he is likely to use this as a source of inner conflict within Subaru (which may be seen later on in Arc 4). I say this because the anime made me fall under the assumption that Rem understood the whole message of 'self-worth' or 'self-value' instead of being a 'second' or 'compromise' person. Her 'second wife' dialogue and the faked-death in the LN/WN totally undid the charm I got from the anime version of Rem, but oh well, guess Tappei has other plans for her character. :/
Speaking of season 1 alone, it felt rather plausible and heartwarming to see Subaru stay committed to Emilia (in a way how Rem x Subaru had developed). Now with this polygamy in the mix, it would have just made the anime's ending feel rather different and Subaru's conviction...half-hearted? Not sure how to explain this well with my anti-polygamy stance.
Also, not sure if this is a stroke of genius or not but the entire dynamic is whole kinds of weird/fascinating. In the eyes of other characters, if we consider the canon timeline where Subaru has successfully progressed the checkpoints (hasn't 'died' in the eyes of others), he is most likely to be perceived as an absolute alpha mad-chad who simply knows what needs to be done. This furthermore explains why people are outright suspicious/doubtful around him.
To clarify, keeping our perspective in the same canonical timeline, Subaru enters Emilia Camp(ep3), decides to save Rem(ep10), gets shunned by Emilia (ep13), in response to which he quits Crusch Camp and tries to run away (ep18), to which Rem offers him the same advice about believing in one's self-worth she had gotten from him, to which he nearly knows just about everything that needs to be done to make it up with Emilia (events up to ep25).
With this canonical timeline we get to draw a parallel, seeing how much Rem has fallen for Subaru in such a short span of time, much like how Subaru had similarly fallen for Emilia. The only difference being that Sufferu is aware of the major details. I had presumed Subaru to come to the conclusion that in this particular timeline, Rem hasn't had any of those painful moments with him that led him to the present state, hence he rejected her as the last thing he should have done is to falsely lead her on. Like he can have strong feelings arise for Rem but it would cast a doubt over his present feelings towards Emilia and everything he had done for her. Thus, it fit very well with the characterization seen in the anime so far.
Anyway, all said, I have made it a point to consider that these characters are immature and haven't fully thought through any of the consequences properly. Testing waters as they say. It's too idealistic of a scenario and arguably detrimental to the characterizations if the polygamy is bound to happen. The anime didn't paint this picture, which is why this is one of the rare cases where I prefer the adaptation over the source. haha

You make a very solid point and I wish I acknowledged it in the video. The characters are indeed very immature and still have a lot of growth awaiting them. Hopefully in season 2 Subaru will realize that he can't realistically maintain two waifus. I too have the same anti-polygamy stance and I hope Tappei does away with the slightly harem-esque patterns we're seeing in this love triangle. Polygamy would suppress the greatness a lot of us see in this series but I think Tappei is intelligent enough to understand that, considering the direction he's taking Rem's character in the WN. I guess all we can do is wait at this point. I have very high hopes for season 2 and I'm really looking forward to it. Again thanks for the response, sorry about RUclips trying to silence you lol. Wait, isn’t everyone technically immature in some way. No, I understand that the idea is that the Re:Zero characters are imperfect and make a lot of simple mistakes. I’m only 19, but doesn’t every person make mistakes throughout their existence, even adults?
What I am trying to convey is that using immaturity for all of the characters in this context can be a little too much. Maybe, even the word “mature” may give a wrong impression to readers when it comes to storybuilding. “Mature characters” would mean that they have hit some point where growth is not needed. But if we look at stories like that, we see that the MC may be portrayed as a Gary or Mary Stu, like Kirito. Such characters seem like if they don’t have any story because they didn’t grow much.
There are static characters, but the round characters, the characters that change - they seem to create way more interesting stories and conflicts which can cause the experiencer of the story to learn a lot from them. And even the mature characters should have a lot to learn; Otherwise, in most cases, the story would feel incomparable to real life people.
I agree with everything else. The polygamy reduces the specialness of their love which also reduces the conflict in the story. The love experienced by both girls and the guy is weaker if shared. It is more common and less special or outstanding. Basically, a love that is shared by just one guy and just one girl would find even more emotion if another guy or girl’s love was turned down. It would make that love more valuable because it becomes scarce to only two. The love feels warmer and the sad rejection toward the rejected feels warm, too. Even the sadness of the rejection makes the story more beautiful.
I haven’t read into the LN or WN (only a little in Japanese), but I do feel the high-quality story, symbols, characters, and energy of Tappei’s and the other creators’ work. There are other possible progressions for the story, such as a certain circular-loop-timeline theory, but any way Tappei takes in progressing the story will be fine. Re:Zero already has been set up so well that there’s little way to screw up the investment people already have in the story. Surely, the polygamy thing dilutes the story, but after it is introduced, it also seems that removing it later can actually spring forth more beauty out of the scarcity of such story. Having a scarce love become diluted by polygamy and then “re-scarce-ified” by removing the polygamy may actually increase the value of such love and story (as long as no sexual lines are crossed).
I’ll just leave this anecdote (probably false) with y’all if anyone has actually read my comment up to this point:
A land without gold may find a lot of value in such a scarce metal that they find. But a land that knew of gold and lost it, they may find even more value in the memory of their encounter.

To start with, I was 19 once too. Compared to how I was several years ago and how I am now, I can confidently say that I am functionally a better human being in many aspects and that includes how I try to perceive and critically understand things. As far as maturity is concerned that is. Also, I daresay that I see a near-identical former shell of myself in Subaru all those years back.
This however isn't to say that once a person matures, they will magically never make mistakes again. Like you said, we really are not perfect beings and we are prone to making mistakes. A rather small but ubiquitous example is one where we need to wrap up some important task with a deadline but we end up procrastinating all the way to the end. I too commit these mistakes every now and then, even if they are done on a significantly lesser scale than before (one of many the reasons why I say I am functionally a better human being). Maturity in this context would just mean a person is less likely to commit the same mistakes due to the added responsibilities they need to fulfill and think through as an adult.
Re:zero has similar things scattered in it too! Tappei has taken effort to write characters like that: they make mistakes frequently before eventually ironing it out by them considering things critically or carefully. All being said, my point of immaturity in my comment discussion was centered around Subaru and Rem. They do display several traits of obsessing over someone to the point that it is unhealthy for themselves. To me, this feels intentional by Tappei for setting up Subaru later on, since the plot development is quite intertwined with how Subaru's character development is. The immaturity I speak of also includes the odd hypocrisy(for lack of a better word) around polygamy.
Covering some major character aspects for them (not going beyond Season 1):
Subaru erroneously falls under the impression that he is entitled to Emilia because he has been doing several things for her (cf: his behaviour in Episodes 12 and 13 are rather quite indicative of it, all the way up to their heated argument). He mistakenly assumes Emilia's empathy as her being this angel who totally gets all of his problems (cf: the lap pillow scene). In his rage and having his 'pride' hurt by getting wrecked by Julius, he may not have understood Emilia when she said "the version of me inside you must be amazing, she can understand everything even if you don't tell her anything" (cf: Episode 13 end). With Rem's confession, he decides to become the hero in a proper way and see Emilia for he she is and not keep doing things to satisfy his own ego (something Rem is unaware of, since she really isn't aware of anything that Subaru has done or is going through).
Rem is a person who has an inferiority complex, stemming from her childhood comparisons with Ram and how she regrets feeling happy when her sister's demon horn was cutoff. She lives her life for somebody else (her sister) and thinks of herself as second-grade/replacement. She unfortunately falls head over heels for Subaru when in fact Subaru was just trying to get on the good side of the maid sisters (post the Mabeast fight). Subaru had advised Rem not to be harsh on herself and carry self-respect around the fact that she is her own person. The anime did a great job in carrying this development for Rem and she did seem like a person who is taking steps to grow her own wings.
However, with the polygamy bit added in the WN/LN , I got busy scratching my head around what just happened. It completely belied my impressions on Rem and Subaru, because of the reasons I had mentioned in my original post a year back. I have only read the WN version, which in particular was rather blatant about Subaru awkwardly but gleefully thinking to himself that he was getting both Rem and Emilia to himself, even though he leaves such a decision onto Emilia. I hear the LN tones down the blatant harem-like vibes but I have yet to read it. (PS: I abhor harem, both as a concept and a solution, due to similar reasons you have stated. It is no wonder why it never took off as a normal thing everywhere, even if we set aside religious and irreligious beliefs. It is kind of a mood killer for me in fiction as well.)
Anyhow, this made me wonder what was Subaru doing in this place, because it again felt like he was doing it all for himself in the end. It also made Rem's character development, appear like no character development. She pressed on the topic of polygamy onto him, where she says she is satisfied with being just the second wife. In her eyes, she considers herself inferior to Emilia. Much to my surprise, Subaru readily agreed to it on a whim and Rem followed up by saying she would do her best to make it happen. I thought of this as a joke and continued reading further.
Later on, she goes all the way into manipulating Subaru into confessing to her by faking her death after the Whale fight, to which Subaru becomes psychologically distraught and says he will never let another man lay his hands on her. Rem basically shifted how she sees her sister, onto Subaru. This was evident from how she went on a suicide spree for him against his wishes (in her words " he is her reason to kill/live", or something like that).
Like, I get that she is totally into him. The memory snow OVA made it rather obvious by turning Rem into "Yes-girl" to Subaru . However, why did she have to demote herself as the second-grade unit yet again? How come a slow but conscious effort to make Subaru look at her way need to turn out rash and manipulative instead? (keeping in mind that she seemed to have developed as a character, like how the anime portrayed her).
So yeah, this stark contrast is what upset me a lot. That said, I really feel your sentiment of "Having a scarce love become diluted by polygamy and then 're-scarce-ified' by removing the polygamy may actually increase the value of such love and story", and thus, I do hope things turn out like that.
Knowing how Tappei writes stuff, he goes through several angles to put Subaru in a tight spot by bringing out his immaturity and indecisiveness. I have come to terms with how things have played out. It's just that Rem used to be a favourite character of mine until I went through the contents of the WN.
So, I guess this is just some pent-up angst of mine against Tappei getting released every now and then. I just hope he does Rem's character some justice, but even those hopes are kind of drowned if you know of the skipped scene in the anime where Aldebaran becomes really angry upon hearing who Rem is (the manga version includes this conversation). It was a completely bizzare, "what the f***" type of conversation too! Haha.

The Anchor bias pretty much always happens in any anime.
First girl the main protagonist finds he will ALWAYS fall in love with and choose over everyone else.
Even if the others girls are 'Better' for him, that is not how the human mind works and while it pisses people off its true like you said in the video.
That is very true I belive that this is also very true in the types of women we like in real life, I believe that the first woman outside your family that shows a type of affection that you feel there is no need to be given to you by someone outside your family will impact the type of women you are attracted to since at the end of the day it will create a mental image of what kind of woman would be attracted to you, and the first major rejection will have the same impact in the opposite way.
Basically for me I am really attracted to certain characteristics, like a dark coloured wardrobe, piercings, and the type of emo chick in a way, I also have a tendency to like chicks who are into things that dudes are into because the first girl to ever show me any semblance of romantic affection and a girl I was really infatuated with was the emo punk rock type of chick and a bit of a tomboy, and because of that I have associated that type of woman in my mind to who is attracted to me, and whilst that is most definitely not a universal truth it marks who I tend to notice more often than not when I see women out on the wide world.
By no means does it mean that I am in fact only attracted to that type of woman, since obviously I might see someone who just catches my eye, like this one time I was leaving school and I see this lady with a white summer dress and a white hat, and I barely even have enough time to notice her but as she passed me by I felt this feeling of being drawn and magnetized to her like I was being pulled, and unfortunately being the coward I was at the time I just sort of followed her until our paths diverged (she was walking on the direction I went to take my ride home) and I never talked to her, and I never saw her again, I think she had black hair though I might be wrong I can't really remember too much in detail apart from the feeling of being tugged by something I couldn't explain.

Rem is just too perfect. Emilia on the other hand is stubborn, and at times useless, she's kinder than any character, she's smart but is not able to take subtle hints. Subaru himself said in arc 4 that if it wasn't Emilia he would have stopped loving her a long time ago. But he's just so madly in love with her that her strong points shine brightly in his eyes and her weaknesses give him a chance to see her new sides.
That's just true love and it can not be changed even if it was to be a thousand times better confession (if it's even possible) from Rem than what she made. True love just can not be changed with words no matter how sparkly those words are.

Nobody can understand how Subaru feels. It's because nobody has ever experienced dying brutally by someone's hands and then have them confess their love for you. For me it's amazing that Subaru can even stay in the same room as Rem without having PTSD. Forgiving her is one thing but people expect him to reciprocate Rem's feelings. I think that's just going too far. Anyways, like I said nobody can ever understand how Subaru feels. After everything this guy goes through nobody has the right to question his choices. I have to admit that people that have read the story of Rezero after the anime ended actually do like Emilia a lot. Only those that are anime only are the ones who so passionately say that Rem is the best girl when in reality it's actually a lot closer than people realize. And because Emilia is the author's favourite character, you can just imagine the kind of monologue that would cement her as the ultimate best girl by the end of the series. If there's one thing that Tappei Nagatsuki is good at, it's writing some of the best monologues in the anime history.

Subaru's love for Emilia is honestly just infatuation. He literally fell in love with her in like 5 minutes, and I don't find her that human either as she literally goes out of her way to help anyone in need. Like no one really does that. Rem is nice but only to the ones she cares about. That is way more human than helping every person you see. Subaru's love for Emilia is a little unnatural. Subaru's true love to Emilia is just her appearance.

I've helped a lot of strangers in my life and I've received a lot of help from strangers. So I don't know what kind of place you belong to.
As far as his infatuation is considered, the author addresses it in arc 4 and 5. And Subaru now loves Emilia for more than just how she looks. If anything Rem's love for Subaru comes off as total 180 of how she killed Subaru in past timelines.
Believe it or not love at first sight happens in this world and is so much more believable than someone that could kill you but is now in love with you.
@@TheReaIestOne It was not JUST a confession. Subaru was in an all-new low in his mental state when Rem had to heal him back to his arrogant, confidant self. He was about to give up on life and just live a married life with Rem, however he was rejected because she only wanted the best for Subaru. If she agreed, she knew Subaru would have likely regretted his decision later on. For NOW Rem should be seen as best girl in the anime, however I won't doubt the high possibility that Emilia could surpass Rem in popularity when the anime finishes airing. While I really like Rem as a character, I do wish that she wasn't so willing to become Subaru's side-chick or slave. Rem and Subaru are both too obsessed with their love interests if I'm being honest. Also Rem is probably more popular because of her cute attitude around Subaru after she falls in love with him. This is very charming, meanwhile Emilia's personality is sort of lacking in terms of charm and intrigue. I understand the flaws about Rem, and why Subaru might not love him, but I find Emilia to be even lower and unlikable as a character. Either way, Subaru's infatuation with Emilia is unnatural, and Rem's undying loyalty to Subaru is excessive. I just feel bad for Rem because if she does not get with Subaru, it'll probably be really hard for her to find another male to fall in love with. After fixing her depressing mentality completely, I doubt any male could compete with Subaru in Rem's mind. If there was another character introduced for Rem to fall in love with, he'd better do some heroic shit like Subaru otherwise people will get triggered that Rem and Subaru didn't get together. Rem and Subaru actually love each other a lot as well. They're sort of in an intimate relationship as in the light novel, Rem and Subaru were about to kiss after killing the white whale, however they were interrupted by Ferris/Felix. The fact that Rem and Subaru both love each other a lot and Rem did more for Subaru than Emilia just adds salt to the wound because Subaru loves Emilia more.

ok hear me out I know im late. in my eyes the anime is about love, not just romantic love but love of all kind, Subaru wouldn't be trying to save anyone if he didn't care for them in some way. he loves the children of the village as a brother or cousin would, he loves the mansion members as a family and friend group, he loves rem almost as much as emila. love isn't a thing that can be put in one box and it doesn't really make sense how it works, that's why he chose emila, to show the confusing emotion of love.

when Subaru loses his memories this same thing happens again but just with Patrache instead, cause Patrache is the first living being to show Subaru that she genuinely cares for him by sacrificing herself to buy him some more time when Satella attacks the watch tower.

I am not gonna watch the rest cause I haven't read the web novel, but something else you could consider is that he died with Emilia a couple of times. This was also the first few times he had ever experienced any kind of physical trauma (to my knowledge). Shared trauma can often lead to feelings of attachment and romance. It is why it is historically documented that many soldiers fell in love (historically, being homosexual relationships, and even more so in societies which don't look down on that). In fact, it is actually especially common for very militaristic societies in the ancient world to be very homosexual (like ancient Greece--just look up ancient Greek homosexuality if ur both interested and comfortable with doing that). So I think the anchoring bias alongside the sharing of his first traumatic experiences work together toward this. You make some other interesting points too, but I could see the common idea of him being an intended archbishop for Satella and her cursing him to love her and Emilia looking like her being the reason why as well.
I actually like him with both of them anyhow, although I think Crusch is best girl.

I’ve heard that Emilia will get more time in the spotlight when Season 2 comes out, and as she is now I like her. The thing is, I think Ram is very underrated and potentially close to if not as good as Rem. However, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think Crusch was best girl. Absolutely amazing waifu.

it's more regarding the scene where Subaru "rejects" Rem
People who hate Subaru for "rejecting" Rem act as if they're completely oblivious to the fact that it was Subaru who approached Rem with the intent of running away and abandon Emilia in the first place in the anime.
Not Rem confessing to her feelings for the first time to Subaru.
But Rem couldn't accept Subaru's proposal.
Rem already knew Subaru had feelings for Emilia and she had already accepted it.
She was probably going to keep suppressing her own feelings because she not only loved Subaru but also respected him as a person,
but due to this situation, she decided to reveal it anyway in order to push Subaru,
and it worked.
And she was aware of the outcome.
She had no remorse from the "rejection".
If Rem had run away with him she'd just be lying to herself
because the Subaru she fell in love with isn't the type of coward who'd run away
and she knew that very well too.
So you could say, it was Rem rejecting Subaru and not the other way around.
This is about the main anime canon, ignoring the Sloth IF story (Rem spin-off) which is a What IF story
I for one love re zero it immediately took my number one spot for best anime I've seen and I don't like to watch other forms of video often aside from anime I I'm not entirely sure that Subaru even actually likes Emilia in that way I have noticed very quickly my first time watching it. Subaru is incurably enslaved to his pride in which I do believe he is the sin Pride pride is a very tricky thing when you try to figure it out it can cause you to make the wrong decisions and be so completely certain that you are making the right ones Subaru has done this many times it happened when he spoiler spoiler spoiler flipped out on Emelia after the fight with (cant remember his name) the purple haird knight he just couldn't get past his pride he even thought so that the audience could know that he did not want to be saying those horrible things to he was saying and even after announcing this to the viewers he continued to speak on behalf of his pride none of that moment was for Emilia he knew that while he was saying it I don't think that he actually loves her but instead I think it's his pride that once he latched onto something AKA Emilia he refused so dearly to let go that he had to be the one in control because he is incurably prideful. But the difference between Emilia and REM isram loves Subaru due to his pride he is her hero because of that Pride that keeps him as he is who he is Ram loves who he is she loves that Pride that keeps him so strong or so her eyes shape so when he breaks down she immediately wants to replace that Pride restoring her hero basically doing anything she can to repay that debt well very well knowing but she never planned to leave his side since those moments rum even understand that there are certain things that he'd simply cannot say yes she doesn't question it he may be stuck with his Pride forcing him towards Amelia I think you're right I think he does love REM just as much if not more as what he thinks he cares about for Amelia but again is there a rash blind following of his pride leads him to make the wrong decisions he tried to lie to REM and I think that's why he was able to say that he wanted to run away with her because he lied that isn't what he wanted he wanted to save everyone his pride wanted him to be victorious and the world around him continuously breaking him down any normal person would have lost their minds well beforehand if in his shoes when you think about it logically inevitably he could just go through it like a breeze you know why spoilers but it's the fact that he feels at all that it actually happens and no one remembers it and he can't tell them would drive you insane to lose your mind as he has quite a few times but it's REM who has brought him back from what seems to be so far the darkest pit he's been in yet re zero is an anime that I love not just because the animation style is Awesome with a storyline is so amazing or even just a simple character design who they are would I love the most about re zero is you almost can't trust any of it they always throw you curveballs and if I could be honest what my prediction for this anime is is that if Subaru does find a path where he saves everybody entirely I don't think he'll be able to be there I think you will be in an endless loop I think that it will be him and his pride and struggling with his self it's actually the protagonist the enemy of the story

I think Subaru and Emilia are doing what’s right. But I think that their existence is dangerous to the isekai. I don’t think it will be a loop, though. I expect a Your Name type ending, without going into deeper detail. But I trust Tappei that he will make the ending great regardless. To be honest, I don’t want a sad ending. But I don’t get the feeling that the story is going to end on a sad note. Hopefully it doesn’t.

Subaru is just following instructions from Isekai Survival Guide which clearly states "Find the first girl who talks to you and then follow her forever." He even began by doing some tests to see how powerful he is and which type of Isekaitis he has, just like the guide says.
Wow, I feel enlightened now. Those few scenes you described really change the context of that infamous scene between Rem and Subaru. I can't believe they cut those scenes out.
If what you're saying is true I would have made Subaru almost be hurt by the confession of Rem and made look like it hurt him to even say that he loves Emilia. This is only one way that would have helped this scene. Which I think would have changed the perception of this moment by a significant amount.

I only read halfway to arc 5 and it´s been a while since I read it. I don´t think anything in that direction has been cleared up completly, but there´s a connection there much deeper than just his current self. I feel like Subaru must have had a past life with Satella.. and if he did and they were in love that would be explanation enough. No (drunken) psychology needed xD

Season 2 spoilers ahead, if you don't want to see them then skip, but I'm not sure anyone who watches these videos hasn't seen season 2 yet so here it goes:
Emilia has never once killed or hurt Subaru throughout all of the loops. She either tries to protect him or puts him at a distance, she has never gone out of her way to hurt him physically, emotionally, or mentally. You could say that the arc 3 fight was her going out of her way to emotionally hurt him, but that was not her intention there either; it was a slap in the face for Subaru and a wake up call to him, but not a way for her to hurt him. Even during the worst loop Subaru has had where everyone dies and Emilia goes insane during the trials, she doesn't hurt Subaru. In fact, she goes out of her way to comfort him until his dying breath, even if in a twisted way. Even at her worst, she has never been anything but a source of comfort and support for Subaru, assisting him in any capacity that she can. This has also grown over time as well, from arc 1 where she had no clue who he was to arc 3, where she was willing to hear him out at a moment's notice even after their fight (episode 17), even if Subaru sucks at taking advantage of the opportunity to tell her what is going on. In arc 4, she is a constant source of support for him, giving him a shoulder to cry on as well as someone to help set him straight gently over the arc. In the failed loops where he talks to the sane Emilia, she and him share several moments where she and Subaru both try and help each other. This shows her acting in a capacity similar to Rem while still being Emilia, showing that this was something that was always a potential outcome, but Subaru just kept her at a distance and alone for the first few arcs, insisting on trying to do things by himself. He attempts to face the ma beasts by himself, he attempts to deal with Julius by himself, and he tries to deal with the witch cult by himself before Rem wakes him up. I firmly believe after seeing season 2 that Emilia would have assisted him had he just asked for help.
The reason why he doesn't like Rem the same way from the start is for a couple reasons. 1) she kills him multiple times. We have proof in season 2 that Subaru forgives but never forgets with the episode straight bet, where he flat out says that if he had to forgive Roswaal to accept him he couldn't do that. This shows his deaths stick with him and he remembers who kills him. We don't see him interact with Puck much in the second season and those short moments we do show a bit of distance on Subaru's side that wasn't there before, with him not attempting to get close to Puck in any capacity he usually did. So, having the first impression of her killing him isn't something he's going to get over instantly. 2) he already has developed a crush on Emilia. Subaru isn't a scumbag despite the impression he gives off sometimes. He genuinely cares for the people close to him and keeps to societal standards of Japan, which is monogamous. So, having already developed feelings for Emilia and seeing the potential for something there, Subaru ignores the feelings Rem has for him in an attempt to keep to societal standards.

Emilia is the only person in the main cast to not turn against Subaru in any loop. Ram, Rem, Puck, Roswald, and Otto all have and caused his death directly or indirectly. Only other character is Beatrice, but she’s like a baby.
