- The brave dad who caught a 14-year-old girl after she dangled off a ride at an amusement park in New York over the weekend fought back tears as he recalled the harrowing rescue. "I yelled up, 'Let go!' and she let go," Matthew Howard told Inside Edition as he described the scene at Six Flags Great Escape. "God dropped an angel." The unidentified teen was on the Sky Ride Saturday when the operator got word someone was in distress, according to the sheriff's office. #InsideEdition
Let's just respect the dad who saved the 14 year old daughter instead of criticizing her for falling through the bars.

This is what you call a real man. He wasn't thinking about himself or just standing there filming the incident. He took action. Much respect! He saved a precious life.
But how did she get her head unstuck? If her head was caught behind the bar and she was hanging by her neck it wouldnt have been possible for her to jump without hanging or decapitating herself. Im proud of the girl for getting her head loose while hanging backwards from her neck. Falling to her death was probably the least of her worries!
Oh, you can see the little brother lift the bar up and push her head out. So he wasnt a helpless bystander. He helped save her life.
A simple bar between the legs of passenger would have prevented this

Oh my gosh. I feel so sorry for what this girl went through.
My step-dad ( the greatest man I ever knew!!! ) is passed away now and was in his 50’s when this happened ( 20 years older than my mom when they hit together when she was 30 ) but there was this rainbow ride thing in Illinois when I was like 12. It would just go over and over again so fast and I remember slipping out of the bars just knowing I was going to die. My Dad hurt his arm so bad hanging on to me while people were screaming for them to stop the ride.
They finally stopped the ride and I was so traumatized and he just held me crying and crying... both of us knowing that I could have died. I only ever saw him cry two more times in my life. When I got married and when my Mom died.
I miss him so much.
Thank God for men like this man and all the other people who helped. That man’s tears made me think about my sweet but strong Dad!

You can’t just “fall out” of a ride like that, especially when it has a safety bar, I mean she must’ve been doing something.
She could have been moving around adjusting and pulling herself up because she was slipping but idk

FireMSP she was most likely sweating in the heat, causing the seat to become slippery, and when she moved she slid under the bar. when she tried to pull herself up she probably slid down more until her neck was caught. it’s not unlikely.

So what? It's slippery, I've slipped forward in the exact same thing but I wasn't a scrawny teenager. Wind caught the thing just right and I got the sensation of falling but... Just bruised my hip. If I had been smaller, I would have fallen under. I think she was turned to her side looking behind her putting her weight forward.

When I was a kid my cousin and I were on a ride, I dont remember the name of it rn but it was a verticle rotating thing and at the top you'd be upside down.
Halfway up the damn thing my cousin and i realised that his seatbelt thing (the bars that come down over your head to keep you from falling out) hadnt locked in place. It was one of the most terrifying events in my life. All I could do was just grab the bars holding my cousin in and push it against him as hard as I could. We were 9 and 10 years old at the time. We were both screaming at the top of our lungs that the seatbelt thing broke so they stopped our ride early, but we'd been upside down at least twice by then. It was extremely traumatising. I had a lot of nightmares about it.
Im glad that the kid who fell is okay physically, and I hope that if she needs emotional support she gets it. Something like that can be extremely traumatising.

Yea it sucks I was on a ski lift and my jacket caught on something and I didn’t get off when it started going around without the bars and the person who was controlling it was talking to some girls not paying attention and people had to scream at him to stop it before I could get off overall thought, not fun but otherwise great experience.

Some of you people need to have mercy. Saying horrible things about this girl gets you no where.... She's 14 for crying out loud she's gonna make mistakes and possibly dumb decisions. We don't know how it happened, whether she was turning around to see something and happened to slip or was messing around that still doesn't give you the right to bully her.
What happened is she was messing around and kicking trees. No 14 year old (unless they had a mental illness) should be dumb enough to try that in a ride. There's warnings for a reason, and she was definitely old enough to understand and follow them. If it was a 5 year old it would be a different story, but even my 12 year old brother knows better.
14 year olds should be smarter than that. I’m 11 and I always hold onto poles/rails in the ride.

I remember going on a ride with my little sister, we were 10 and 8 at the time, and were on a roller coaster, you were supposed to be strapped in but we couldn’t do it and the employees didn’t check us, it was super fast and loads of sharp turns. I thought we were going to die, the only reason we didn’t fall out is because I told my sister to lay and the ground and I sat on top of her so she couldn’t fly off, I was screaming so loudly but no one could hear me, I’m still traumatised now.

I live up by that six flags, and went on that same skyride a few days ago. She must of really been messing around to fall out of that thing. Although they've recently added a small bar to go between your legs to prevent it from happening again.

True story:
I was on a date at Marriott's (now Six Flags) Great America. We went on the Turn of the Century roller coaster, which was a double loop coaster. When we got to the top of the first incline and drop, I noticed my over-the-shoulders restraining harness-bar hadn't locked. We go down the first incline and I'm white-knuckling the harness. On top of that, a guy in front of me had his sunglasses in his pocket and they flew out. Without thinking, I reached up and caught them. Holding them with two fingers, I continued white-knuckling with the other two and thumb. When the ride ended, I threw the harness up before the ride operator released them. I got out of the car and said, "You have a malfunctioning harness; who lost their sunglasses?" The staff had stunned looks on their faces as well as my girlfriend. Centripetal force was my friend.

People make foolish choices all the time, especially teens, and yes 14 is still a kid, that doesn't mean they don't deserve to be saved. I'm betting she learned a pretty powerful lesson from this and came out wiser and smarter. Rides need to have better safety features so people don't get hurt. Sure, she was probably messing around, but what if she had had a seizure and this happened? I got a serious whiplash injury on Ghost Rider at Knotts Berry Farm. I was in the back car. There was a sudden jolt as we went down the first dip (a very steep and long dip) and the picture that is taken shows just my hyperextended neck on my chin. Knotts Berry Farm would not admit liability or say that they should do anything to protect others from injury. All I was doing was sitting on the ride. I've had neck problems ever since. Clearly, if someone is injured on a ride or at an event, there should be an investigation on how to make things safer.

Maybe as she jumped into the seat her rump bumped the back of the seat rest so that she was slouching? It didn't show whether she's petite & tiny or more tall & heavy set (as I am) which might've contributed to the situation. If she's a teenager it's possible that she normally slouches when sitting & chilling out as she lounges and a doesn't have any immediate side effects while you're resting on a recliner or a sofa but when you're on a swing type of chair 20-plus feet above ground without a footrest that you can stand up on them to push up from. It's easy to see how gravity can you pull you down and get you out of your seat. Another possibility is that he might have had a handbag backpack or Fanny Pack that was behind her at her waist that might have taken out half of her seat so her but wasn't fully on the bench as it began moving.
Her clothes were wet from another ride and she slipped. She wasn’t messing around at all. This is someone that I know personally and I hate seeing all these accusations about it being her fault when it wasn’t. She had no control over the situation
