- - Two years after drawing boos from the demanding audiences of La Scala, Luciano Pavarotti won ovations, a shower of flowers and critical praise for his opening night performance Saturday of Verdi's "Aida". "Luciano Pavarotti is the big star of this show,'' wrote Duilio Courir, music critic for Milan's Corriere della Sera, Italy's largest-selling daily. ''The voice of Pavarotti is marvel that never lets him down.'' -- The audience in the sold-out opera house showed their admiration for Pavarotti early in the four-act opera. After he finished his first solo the performance was interrupted with shouts of ''Bravo!!'' -- As opening night approached, Italian critics had questioned if the 50-year old Pavarotti would again displease La Scala's audience, as he did in March 1983 in his last previous appearance here.!! I looked up some of the tenors in the 2000s they are now about 45-55 like is pavarotti here and they are not even close to his healthy voice at this age....

What a voice! some say this tenor some say that tenor, making a plausible case very often...he really was the best.
He pours everything into this role. He so respected Caruso's version. Magnificent! That last note...wow!
The La Scala audience today is probably wishing for Pavarotti to return.

Che sia una buona esecuzione non ci sono dubbi!!! Tuttavia pur essendo un'aria prettamente lirica, ha bisogno di un minimo di vocalità eroica...comunque sicuro e voce ferma,nonostante i 50 anni!!! Grazie
I hope that those animals of La Scala who booed Maestro Pavarotti are very happy now watching lesser tenors performing there whose voices are not even half of the Great Pavarotti. Shame on them. BOOOO!!!! BRAVO PAVAROTTI!!!

I wonder whatever happened to that tough Milanese audience. The past decade the vocal and general artistic level at La Scala has dropped dramatically, yet they accept everything with applause...
He was returning to La Scala for the first time in a production after his Lucia di Lammermoor had not been well received there - that, and the difficulty of singing this difficult aria right at the beginning of Aida had obviously been a challenge. Which he gloriously won !
the rounds of applause during and at the end the opera spoke for themselves .

Certo, come no! Se anche il "Corriere della Sera", che non è mai stato tanto tenero con lui, si permise il lusso di intitolare a caratteri cubitali "Celeste Luciano", beh, poi viene lei e mi stabilisce che come Radames Pavarotti fosse inadeguato. Interpretazione straordinaria e davvero roboante.
@@MrThepresident2009 concordo assolutamente con lei - avendo anche ascoltato quest’Aida dal vivo. ‘ Roboante’ però mi sembra aggettivo che un poco svilisce la regalità dell’ interpretazione di Luciano che riconosce chiunque l ascolti, e non sia di parte.
