People have no realization of how physical singing is, that it’s as taxing a mechanism as a concerto on any instrument you can think of. And a singer may have the most amazing voice ever and be clueless about how to use it….everything is invisible, because it’s all internal. A singer has to learn to manipulate large process muscles with no visual guide, and then smaller and smaller mechanisms, until tiny muscles in the nasal pharynx can be manipulated to shape and color vowels. And it all has to be connected to moving-but not forcing-the diaphragm, in the same way. A pianist, a violinist, a ballet dancer use their eyes to hone and train the smallest muscles…singing is so much harder than that. Which all goes to show that the gift is given, but is the singer intelligent enough to learn the most complex mechanism of all?? Then there’s musicianship…can the singer learn music theory in order to analyze and realize a 2-3 hour long opera?? Can they learn to phonetically produce the vowel sounds of French, Italian, German, English, Spanish, Russian, while managing that tremendous mechanism? Can they learn to act convincingly to tell some of the most preposterous plots ever?? I mean, come ON!! It’s so very much MORE than the voice!! God has to pack a lot more in that just that!!
We've had great tenors, but Luciano's overtones are as unique as his fingerprints and won't be duplicated. Let's hope his legacy of a naturally placed, fully supported voice rings true in future generations.

I had seen Luciano in La Boheme and la fille de regiment but I was too late purchasing tickets to a concert in Miami. At the last minute we were able to get tickets sitting behind him on stage. The performance was marvelous and when he finished he said to his audience he wanted to sing to his other audience and turned to face the people behind him. Everyone started pleading for their favorite aria as an encore and I said "una furtiva ". He smiled and nodded to the pianist accompanying him and after 2 chords I knew. Pavarotti singing una furtiva 4 feet in front of me. And I knew if my life had ended then it would have ended on a high note.

He was at the peak of his powers at this age. He could still belt out the standards as he grew older but he couldn’t find and hold the notes like he did here. He also never sounded gravelly like most tenors get with age. Magnificent. (This was also live on stage, not a staged recording.)
I look up at the ceiling listening to Luciano Pavarotti. Thinking... It is the afternoon. He is sitting on an old simple open Wood boat in a harbour outside of Napoli, the boat is painted in mostly white. He is fixing a fishing net, and singing in the open air Una Furtima Lagrima. Singing so beautiful as he always sing.
I try not to lament the loss of such a talent but remind myself of beauty he left. I don't think I would have stopped applauding if I was in the audience. So beautiful.
I listen to Pavarotti since I was a toddler and wanted to see him in person, but some years later knew he passed away. Even today, over 15 years later, I still pretend he is alive because his memory will always live with me ❤
Io Me Io Me in which ways? Pavarotti, Caruso, Gigli, Bjorling etc all were impeccable opera singers of course. I love, listen and respect them all. They all have perfect technics, perfect expressions and amazing unlike voices. But if we keep technic and emphasis out (because all of those tenors are all perfect on expression and technic) and add voice-color in competition, LP is getting one step ahead of them. Thats why L.P. is better than all eventually... I know it is always hard to accept the reality but it is a big fact which people should accept.
Exactly! So, I never watched Pavarotti. I only listened. But godamn he's an amazing actor in addition to his beautiful vocals. I quite honestly felt as if I was right there, with him, with every note he sung slightly caressing my heart
The color and emotion in that remarkable voice makes him easily the most recognizable tenor. The century began with Caruso and ended with Pavarotti - it's doubtful opera will ever again be that blessed.
There’s Luciano and his superb talent. Then there is the genius of Gaetano Donizetti from whose composer’s pen we have this listener paradise. The great Italian opera composers are unequaled throughout the universe.
Here is a man playing the finest musical instrument in the world, technically proficient and in tune with all human emotion. He knows this and gives and gives and gives. Still. Ah, Luciano!

From the time man first opened his mouth and made a sound until today there has never been a more beautiful human voice. Combined with the fact that as somebody once said the word “charisma” was invented for Pavarotti, this is an artist like no other!
@@mortemoccasus2412 Are you talking about that movie version? Horrible movie, worst made, but Pavarotti is the only shining star that worth to listen to. I especially love his La Boheme...so passionate. The opera that makes his career, he started Boheme where ever he went to sing first. Pavarotti brought the whole crew to Beijing in 1986 to open his tour with La Boheme...
There are two people I wish i'd heard sing live...one is Luciano Pavarotti and the other is Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan....I regret not making sacrifices and making the journey...
The other among this height are Lt. Beniamo Gigli and Lt. Enrico Caruso. You might like them, both have beautiful baritone voices and are considered greatest tenors to ever live along Pavarotti.
It wasn´t only the voice, that was so captivating, but his purity of expression as well - and Pavarotti was a sufficiently good enough actor to truly and honestly radiate, what he sang.

The emotion that he expresses, his phrasing and pronunciation. It is clear that he feels the music deeply. His commanding power and tenderness here are magnificent!

Such a gift to hear him
He was at the peak of his powers at this age.

Thank you for the beautiful daydream. Peace and be well friend!
Pavorotti... troppo bravo !!
Ecco Grande Luciano❤❤❤

I try not to lament the loss of such a talent but remind myself of beauty he left. I don't think I would have stopped applauding if I was in the audience. So beautiful.
Grazie Pav
Finché rimarrà nei nostri cuori, continuerà a vivere. Grazie Luciano!!!

I listen to Pavarotti since I was a toddler and wanted to see him in person, but some years later knew he passed away. Even today, over 15 years later, I still pretend he is alive because his memory will always live with me ❤
Now he´s an angel, singing for God with such a wonderful voice.
This is legitimately one of the only songs that made me cry. That really goes to show how much a good singer can have of an impact on someone.
0:42 He remained a bumble man till the end. He was his own worst critic. This man with the voice from heaven never thought his voice was good enough.
No one like Pavarotti. A taste of heaven
He was great but don't forget Caruso, my friend.
MAYBE LUDOVIC SPIESS!!!
Don't forget Caruso, Gigli and Mario del Monaco. They're better than Pavarotti.
Pavarotti's singing is obviously fantastic, but the bassoon in this piece is underrated - such fantastic playing.

Exactly! So, I never watched Pavarotti. I only listened. But godamn he's an amazing actor in addition to his beautiful vocals. I quite honestly felt as if I was right there, with him, with every note he sung slightly caressing my heart
Canal du Modem, he certainly transported me there with him. XXX
well said !
In a complete league of his own, there will never be another like him
Insuperable, adoro a Pavarotti.
Impossibly flawless as ever. One of the most moving pieces of music ever created.

From the time man first opened his mouth and made a sound until today there has never been a more beautiful human voice. Combined with the fact that as somebody once said the word “charisma” was invented for Pavarotti, this is an artist like no other!
His level of concentration and the voice...simply amazing. Very hard to believe that this is real given the level of perfection displayed.

Björling surpassed Pavarotti by quite a long margin! And that has nothing to with taste, but fact
I still cry.

I don't know what's more beautiful: his voice or the joy of singing so clearly imprinted in his eyes.

@@道-p2e no. A singular opera.
I believe he is the greatest singer that has ever lived. Is he a lyric tenor? Is ha a dramatic tenor? Why, he's BOTH! Absolutely other-worldly voice!
There are two people I wish i'd heard sing live...one is Luciano Pavarotti and the other is Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan....I regret not making sacrifices and making the journey...
def a lyric, he just had a good technique so he had proper chest participation
The other among this height are Lt. Beniamo Gigli and Lt. Enrico Caruso. You might like them, both have beautiful baritone voices and are considered greatest tenors to ever live along Pavarotti.
As a tenor for the masses he was ok, as for quality of voice, he can't compere with Jussi Björling, he was the king of tenors!

It wasn´t only the voice, that was so captivating, but his purity of expression as well - and Pavarotti was a sufficiently good enough actor to truly and honestly radiate, what he sang.
