    Can’t stress enough how useful those bump and runs are around the green, I used to use 56 or 60 and was so inconsistent. Now just the reliable bump and run has saved me many a time 👍🏻

      I only chip for loft when there's a steep rise or drop, or rough in my path, or trying to clear a bunker, i.e., when I have to.

    • @rdj3video
      @rdj3video 2 года назад +1

      My quick ShotScope (watch) math is as follows. They actually tracked user data and wrote a white paper about using less loft and be open to a variety of clubs.
      1512 shots from within 50 yards this year.
      %%%%
      0.9% Hybrid through 7 iron (never chipped a 7 iron)
      2.7% 8 iron
      0.7% 9 iron
      15.1% PW (42-46)
      8.6% GW (48-52)
      19.6% SW (52-54)
      27.9% LW (58 to 64)
      24.5% Putter
      This breakdown changes when we get to that 25 yards and in chipping situation that Rick is featuring. My putter usage increases dramatically (If you can putt it, putt it.) as I’m terrified of the horrors he illustrated.
      A nice big chipping green area that isn’t flat as a pancake obviously helps as firing away chips with multiple clubs paints a nice visual.
      It does seem most playing partners grab the lob wedge even when on the fringe. My guess is it’s a comfort level thing which is understandable.

    • @ryanbartell
      @ryanbartell 2 года назад +4

      I think the issue with the 56/60 is that most people only play one shot with them, the hardest shot, the pure chip...and because it's such an easy shot to mishit, players lose their confidence in the 56/60, so they alligator arm it or give up on the shot before contact. Thus duffing and losing more confidence.
      Tying into ricks tip 3, you need to read the green and lie, and similarly, create a plan with clubs at hand. If you know how to play 2 or 3 shots with each your Gw, Sw and Lw, youre much better suited to not duff it. It'll help far more in the long run as the confidence in your wedges grow, and you develop shots for any kind of lie and situation.
      Now, I'm just a 11-13 HDCP golfer so this could be BS, but playing around and experimenting with my wedges so vastly improved my short game I can't bear to hit irons or putters from just off the green. I'm more likely to chip from the green than to putt from off at this point.

    I am the golfer that hates cleaning clubs, cleaning balls, and taking head covers on and off throughout a round- but they are so essential to playing well. I actually had to go and buy head covers off Ebay because I got so tired of them being in the bag last year, I threw them away at a golf course.

    I’ve been using that 9-iron bump and run tip since I saw it another one of your videos and it’s solid gold. What’s also nifty is because it’s a putting stroke, you can adjust the lean of the shaft to get different lofts without changing your club, your stance, or your swing.

      ...that's actually not a great way to chip and every time I see someone who proclaims they do something similar to great effect, they usually have a really bad short game. Your attack loft should be controlled by your setup/ball position, not some funky hand positioning.

    I struggle with the bump and run, I’ve tried it so many times after watching your videos, but for me, the gap wedge is the club for me around the green. Thanks for all the videos!

    Totally agree with the 2 club swing. I used to play cricket and warmed up with 2 bats. Took that into golf and that 1st swing on the 1st tee feels effortless.

    I use my lob wedge around the greens all the time. I have practiced with this club often and have gotten really good using it around the greens. I have saved so many shots with this club and I feel more confident using my lob wedge than any other club around the green. I feel it personal preference to what club golfers use around the green. And my club of choice will always be my lob wedge. Great tips in this video Rick! I see way to many golfers playing with dirty clubs and this annoys me. I cant stand to have my club dirty at all before, during and after my round. I always clean them when I play and clean them after. And cleaning your golf ball is super important as well. I clean my ball often too. This way I get a more truer roll from it. Well thank you again for these simple tips to help golfers out. Keep the great videos coming and happy golfing to you!

    Bump and run is so critical for mid to high handicaps to learn. Practicing like 7 8 9i with the same exact putting swing and seeing how they roll out differently is incredibly useful.

    Anything around the green now, I just stand closer to the ball, close the face slightly, and use a putting stroke. Done wonders for my scores. Always confident standing over those shots now!
