This was the video that introduced me to phantom of the opera XD I was maybe five years old, and because my dad was a huge Phantom fan, he wanted to get me into it too. Dunno why he chose THIS vid, but I still loved it. 11 years later and it's safe to say my dad successfully made a fan out of me XD

I think it works though!I heard Cameron Macintosh say in an interview that the point of the video, we I mean the goal was to make it as over the top as possible. Said he and alw have had a laugh over the years occasionally at how ridiculous this video was.
This version was designed to be totally over the top. Steve Harley who plays the Phantom here also plays Raoul. It was done as a promo to basically remind people what the story was all about as there hadn't been a version done for sometime. Harley stood in as the Phantom because at this point Crawford had not been cast and the decision for the half mask idea had not been decided upon.
+Opera Ghost Yeah, the half-mask we see that covers only one side of the face was added later. I can understand that though. The half-mask allows more singing options, less limitations on your performers the better.
Sarah does blink a few times (when putting on the veil, when Phantom is behind her while she's dressed as Cleopatra, while performing as Cleopatra). But I kind of like that she doesn't. Shows she's enraptured by her Angel of Music...and maybe bordering on insanity like he is. (After all, he is there, inside her mind, lol.)
