You legit sound like the nicest person in the world. Also, though I'm not into cEDH, Yisan is my guy if I'm to venture into that format.

I was on a similar boat. I love using Yisan, although I don’t really own much of the combo pieces that is here. Because of my friend group, a good portion of my creatures goes towards defending myself from my friends that heavily rely on flying creatures. If you’re ever in that situation, Silklash Spider will be your best friend. He is defeinitely mine. Another one I would suggest is Arachnis Spinner. If you have the complementary Arachnus Web enchantment, you could basically pin down an opponent’s essential combo creature for that turn. Despite how simple the enchantment and creature are, it has saved me dozens of times.

God I love this card. Fell in love with him when I started the game and pulled him just after M15 dropped

Recently put him together and I gotta say I've never had more fun playing an EDH deck than I have playing Yisan.
He perfectly blends the nostalgia of old EDH casual games with the edge of a cEDH all while being in my favourite colour by far.

As a new Yisan player this was an excellent video for intro and learning. Great job on this and thank you for creating a Yisan video. One of the best I've seen yet in breaking down his basic mechanics and cards per verse.

I was confused by the double verse trick so I guessed others would be too.
Yisan's ability checks how many verse counters are on it at one time: when the ability resolves. It doesn't care how many it had when the ability was activated. In this case, when both abilities resolve, we see that Yisan has four verse counters on it, so you'll search for two creatures with a converted mana cost of 4, not a creature with a converted mana cost of 4 and a creature with a converted mana cost of 3.
When there is a colon (:) on a card anything to the left is a cost and happens/is checked before the activation. Right of the colon is anything that is part of the effect., so nothing happens until the ability resolves.

Was just building Yisan only thing I am feeling is truly missing is Gaea's Cradle. The deck itself still works on it's own though. I would definitely suggest Yisan for new players.

Growing Rites of Itlimoc is a decent budget friendly subtitution

So I want to build yisan, because it can be pretty cheap. My friends dont want to deal with another cedh deck though because I already have prossh. Is this deck a no go for me?

What if I want to keep him at 2? Sorry there anything that I can do to continue to pull 2 drop creatures?
I always grab Priest of Tit but it would be nice to grab Fauna Shaman. But that would be a waste if I don’t already have Priest of Tit

Just double verse on your first activation. Maintain priority and untap/tap a second time, or use rings of brighthearth, on your first activation and put him to 2nd verse and tutor two 2 drops

Wirewood symbiote doesn't allow us to have infinite mana ("once each turn").

It works if you use Temur Sabertooth to bounce the Wirewood back to your hand, then you can do it infinitely

Awesome video! Is Yisan still viable today and is he good in Duel Commander?

Wirewood symbiote doesnt go infinite because you may only activate it's ability once per turn.

Wait "Double Versing?" can you explain that again?

    • @TheCommanderDojo
      @TheCommanderDojo  6 лет назад +3

Grant Eklund First, you need enough mana to pay for Yisan's ability twice and the ability to untap him.
Activate his ability, which will put one verse counter on him, and hold priority. With priority, respond by untapping Yisan and activating his ability a second, consecutive time adding another verse counter.
When the abilities resolve you'll end up with two verse triggers at the same number. As an example, assume your Yisan has no verse counters on him, double versing will give you two, two-mana creatures.
Double versing is an effective way to cheat out extra creatures and essentially "skip" verses you don't want or need creatures from.
Hopefully that clears things up a bit more.

Is it possible (assuming enough Mana) to continue using priority, and continue this effect, essentially removing all creatures of a certain cmc out your deck?
