Commander Rules and Ban List:
mtgcommander.net/
When they were announcing their commander choices I audibly laughed when higher said he was playing Kinnan. Clearly they saw how that ends up.
Honestly what a miss, top tier commander vs Winota which is B tier vs Slicer which is fringe but viable vs Teferi which is super fringe. Higher has the strongest commander backed up by metagame knowledge. Everyone complaining about the other 3's threat assessment but Higher employing the "coy cedh" persona against complete noobs doesn't help.
I'm sure Josh and Jimmy wanted to figure out their own deck but there should have been a Blue Farm value pile.
@@lurker398 having seen Higher in a bunch of different cEDH content, what you may assume is him being coy is just him genuinely trying to teach and explain things thoroughly. Dude seems incredibly nice.
Agreed tho the deck selection is weird, with Kinnan being the only meta deck at the table and not a lot of the core of cEDH being represented.
@@benbarclay4239 No hate to Higher! His actions are appropriate for cedh. It just clashed with the "show" given that (1) the other 3 have zero understanding so his "redirections" seem contrived (2) notice how Jimmy helps out DJ with his Phyrexian Revoker. The optimal action is for Jimmy to be quiet and let DJ misplay but Jimmy wanted to be helpful since both of them are unfamiliar.
@@lurker398 Yeah, overall similar thoughts and feelings here, more so in regards to Josh & Jimmy's decks, both of which were lower class cEDH decks, Winota at least sees more play than those two.
Most surprised we didn't see any UBx decks, or Foodchain decks, while Kinnan is deservedly a menace, there are decks that can hang with him, which just weren't chosen to be played. Strange decision! anyways, love the game overall regardless.
Yeah, I also chuckled as soon as I saw Kinnan
THIS IS INCREDIBLE!
you guys gotta go on next! help them get more familiar with the cedh format!!
Agreed would be dope to see that collab one day
LETS GOPTW!!!!!
yeah we need this
broooo i wanna see yall on their show so bad!! yall really deserve it! your content so awesome!!
YESSS
If you guys ever play this format again It would be great to see an episode with the guys from PlayToWin 😄
YES 100% Agree!
Second this, they’re awesome
loved the episode of them on janklord
PLAY TO WIN MENTIONED!!!🔥🔥🦅🔥🔥🔥🔥🦅🗣️ RAHHH!!!!!
Play to win needs to be here!
As a kinnan player myself, I saw that colossal skyturtle coming as soon as he said bounce two things lol
Legends say, Josh is still there waiting after being left hanging by DJ
That the editors made that the victory shot killed me 😂😂
I am now adding "my whole ass hand" to my edh vocabulary.
It was so sad and hilarious 😂
Yeahh same 😂😂 Though I don’t play many non-creatures in my deck 🤷🏻♂️😅
It's absolutely fantastic to me that there's a CEDH-viable mono red aggro deck. Slicer is *terrifying*
The deck also runs stax that's available in the colour
Magda (the kaldheim one) is arguably even more powerful than slicer. And Godo is old but still terrifying
Magda is one of the strongest decks in cedh. its way stronger than slicer.
I’m a mono red cEDH player. Magda is arguably better. BUT!!!! Slicer is so damn fun. If you’re new to cEDH slicer is a great first deck
Slicer is my goto when I choose violence, stax is great but honestly turn 1 Slicer is always the goal. Don't give your opponents more draws then possible stax them out when Slicer is online.
I loved “my whole ass hand” and higher just responding just the same dumbfounded. This episode is probably one of my favorites from this entire series
Adding to what is already said: Cam and Dylan from Play to Win next please. Best cEDH RUclips channel imo.
Get the boys from Play to Win for either some casual or cEDH, I know Dylan and Cam play both and I'm sure they would love to appear on the show
34:06 "So much Horsepower, and no room to gallop." 😂❤
So nice to see DJ again!
Agreed! I'm always happy to see DJ anywhere.
Don't get me wrong, love the content Josh and Jimmy put out. It's just kinda funny watching them get so concerned about plays from Higher and the misplaced threat assessment. Comes with being new to the territory of cEDH I guess.
They definitely panicked that second game after he won so smoothly that first game
They attacked the player who had the most experience, proved they could combo off out of nowhere (Kinnan was on board for most of the game), and also, most importantly, had already lied/broken a deal the previous game. If someone is willing to lie and immediately break a deal, that shows they can't be trusted. Josh and Jimmy targeted Higher the second game, despite his protestations, because, as they even said in the show, they couldn't trust what Higher was saying. And for good reason considering Higher wasn't being entirely truthful about what he said the second game, either.
It's not bad threat assessment to assess the threat of a player's skill and trustworthiness over the board state. DJ was more threatening on board, but Higher's behavior and plays showed he was more threatening in every other regard.
Moral of the story: don't lie and break deals. Even in cEDH, that's shitty and only earns you distrust for all future games.
@@ethanr1247 yeah that deal was a bit iffy, but jimmys deal was that he would pump slicer if higher attacked dj, so i guess technically he just didnt attack him and jimmy didnt pump
@@drake11011 Exactly, at no point did he agree he would attack Josh and only Josh. Forcing someone to use their interaction is commonplace in EDH, and Josh and Jimmy have done that on multiple occasions.
@@ethanr1247 that was hardly a deal, both parties said 'maybe', and also Higher made the play that was best for the table. He knew Josh could bounce Slicer which helps everyone. Unfort Jimmy had the redirect.
this was very fun but also very illustrative of what a "power 9~10" pod actually looks like
No, thers power 9-10 and then there is CEDH. 9-10 are what most CEDH players would call "Fringe decks" they can hang in there but arent going to see many victories.
@@STIPanda you're free to use words as you like, but the mainstream use of the power levels is not like this.
power level 10 = cEDH was there in the first blog posts about power level decades ago
@@voltcorpsounds like that information is well out of date then chief. I don't think mainstream opinion is a 10 power is cEDH anymore.
Oh gods, it begins. How long I’ve waited to see jimmy and Josh play tens!
Didn't they play on the time spiral remastered game knights and failed big time
Be honest, how many people expected a second game.
Wait you mean Jimmy play a 10 lol well first game atleast lol
@@patrickmarshall7523 slicer is a scary deck, jimmy just got buried under the stax in game 2
@@pokebosskingcoder1012 Yeah, absolutely me! ;-)
Really cool gasts, that gives me hope to see Play to win´s Dylan and Cam some Day. Really cool Channel, ike youres :) keep it up. Great Contant.
I’m not a huge fan of CEDH but it’s nice for Extra Turns to be able to show off the diversity of ways to play Commander, and the episode is lots of fun 😊
Never did I imagine I would see CEDH on the commandzone channel
This is huge. Love the pace of play and the decks used. Good on yall for being vulnerable and trying something new🔥
Loved this episode! I haven’t watched in a while, but seeing cEDH pulled me back in. You should definitely consider bringing in Play to Win if you do it again in the future!
This was a lot of fun watching the casual players play cedh and learn the nuances between the two variations of edh. I'd love to see some more content like this
This is a W, nice to see you guys showcasing some cEDH
It was great to see you guys learning as you played. I hope too see some more of this once in a while.
"Im a blue deck, the only thing i could possibly do is bounce it" Pongify, Rapid Hybridization, and Reality Shift would like a word with you Josh...
Resculpt!? think "one ring" meta lol
Clones are Slicers kryptonite 💀
All cards MaRo regrets printing in blue lol
@@gaythiestMTGI was thinking the EXACT same thing
Resculpt? That card so slow now.
I have been waiting so long to see a CZ cedh game! Would love to see more signal boosting of creators in this space! Play to Win would make awesome guests!
I love Higher, he always has a mixture of chill and ruthless vibes. Also... DJ!!!!!
Amazing to see the biggest names in the commander space playing cEDH! Would love to see more, this is so good and important for the format!
legends have it that Josh was still left hanging with that hi five after the cutscene.
I really liked this episode, each deck had a really clear gameplan and it was fast so the tension was real!
I double checked the title when I first saw the c in front of EDH. Loved the episode!
Finally! Glad to see a cedh game on here after all this time, great work guys.
Nice detail to have cEDH with the extra turns touch, not the usual wincon you see in the format but actually for me it is more enjoyable
Absolutely loved this! Please show more cedh! Its fun seeing it on such a high quality platform
Its been a while since ive watched CZ content, and seeing cedh is bringing me back. Play this some more there are tons of cool decks to try out
This is amazing! I love CEDH, the tempo, the speed, the brutal combos, plus the fact we got multiple games in this video!!! Perfect for an Extra Turns video
Higher wasn't obsfucating the truth or trying to deceive you. He was right to say that giving him a draw off the ring would have given him a possible out against DJ. He also wasn't expecting jimmy to change targets (especially to a kinnan that was already pithed.
I expected this to be fun. It was even funnier than I thought. Thanks, and extra turn is a great format for this.
Would love to see this again with meta decks and black at all. Just got into cEDH recently, glad to see you guys get into it
Finally! Great games guys! Really enjoyed seeing non-cEDH players learning how to play cEDH decks along with a cEDH mindset. Looking forward to more cEDH from you guys.
Love seeing two games. cEDH lends itself to a couple in a short amount of time. Would love to see more!
I dig the Gambit style "Trigga da Consecrated Sphinx" hahahaha Great games boys!
Ive always lived on the fence of cEDH and EDH. Love watching channels do their cross format episodes. 🤘🤘
Cool to see some CEDH content from you guys
As someone who has never played cEDH or watched any cEDH content, I loved this! I'd absolutely love more cEDH Extra Turns :)
Yes! I finally made a cEDH Tiny Bones Deck so happy to see some cEDH from the CZ!
Josh took this one like a champ. Congrats for not being salty. You took the high road and I appreciate that.
Yooooo about time you got some HIGHER POWER
Underrated comment
@@Spirited_skiingyea sooo off
Finally dude. CEDH is so much fun I hope you guys do a lot more of these episodes!
Would love to see more cEDH!
For the love of God, keep doing these! Double header cEDH episodes are awesome, THIS was awesome!
Can we have more CEDH. Also bring the Play To Win podcast. Please. That was a fun episode.
I enjoy Commander in all its forms and it is awesome to see you all CEDH. I would also recommend Play to Win for CEDH info and games. Good vibes.
I see Slicer, I hit play, I'm a simple dude.
Now, play it turn 1 and I'll be thrilled.
Slicer reminds me of Roberto from Futurama... now I am going to go make a custom Slicer ;p
@@mr.mammuthusafricanavus8299 I can see it lol
I don’t want to see it all the time, but I love yall dipping your toe in the cEDH waters. Real fun watch, and Higher might have been the perfect guest for the episode
It's so cool that you played cEDH!!! Can't wait for another episode!
Nice. Thanks for playing cEDH, guys. Fun fact, one of my mantras: always go after the Kinan player, so thanks for reinforcing it and putting it on display for everyone 🫡
The cameo of a 4 mana artifact is why I'm also seriously considering a house ban 😂😂😂
Thanks for the extra turns, guys!
Stop spreading that propaganda! Leave my kinnan alone 😂 but seriously as a kinnan player, it’s probably best you don’t let me have too much time of cards😂
@@FLIproductions09 Listen I just cannot trust a deck that draws a ton, has beefy bodies, and has infinite mana combos at your fingertips
Yoooo it’s higher thats great, his deck is a proper nightmare! Good stuff bro!
NOW THIS IS POD RACING!
I have waited literal years for this
Jimmy is giving KPop star in the opening notes. Yes chef!
26:55 Tishana's Tidebinder is an amazing response to a creature like Sphinx, and it's definitely a blue deck card
CEDH!!! LETS GOOOO THIS IS WHAT WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR
I’m not going to lie, I really want to see more of this. That was awesome 😁
Vintage Commander: Teferi Temporal Archmage
Finally! This is awesome! This one and the budget video you guys did are my favorite. Great content as always, appreciate you guys.
Wow never thought I’d see the day
As a casual player who occasionally dabbles in cEDH, it's great to see some cEDH gameplay here! Would love to see some more in future Extra Turns (or a spin-off cEDH gameplay series)!
Please keep making cedh content so the arbitrary wall that people feel when entering the format can be broken thank you
This reminds me of the EARLY early days of Game Knights. I remember they had matches that were so quick, sometimes there were episodes where they had 2 games in 1 video
Very sick game!
Very sad that playing with power is taking an indefinite hiatus right when this comes out though :( Best of luck and hope things work out
Dang! Jimmy off to the races!
Great explosive first turn!
YESSS do a game knights main with cedh!
man, i am watching your game knights/extra turns for years, love it and having a lot of fun as most of your fans surely do either. however, for me, as a cEDH player myself, this was best episode by far. you were able to add your charm and "casual" vibe to this competitive fight and it was much better compared to cEDH streams of other cEDH channels. you did very good job as always with your production. thank you.
PWP on hiatus rn. Ironic to see them on Extra Turns right after that announcement
Is Higher a member of the PWP team?
@@owenrobinson5031 yep, voiced the eps while ryan didn't
@@owenrobinson5031 3:05 ...
Extra Turns, Higher, cEDH, Command zone? ALL IN ONE VIDEO.....Wohoo Let's go
Love it! Do more cedh
Great episode, Higher is such a good guest wherever I see him!
So many haters in the comments. Cedh isn't as bad as 99% of you make it sound.
Right? So many babies.
Absolutely loved this as a cedh player. And Higher brings a fantastic energy to the show. Ngl I enjoy seeing the first 3 turns not be each player playing a bounce land LOL
Interesting choice for the pod make-up. I understand wanting avoid more meta lists with perhaps harder to grasp combos like Blue Farm and a Breach line, or Atraxa with Food Chain. Saying this since Winota isn't really meta anymore and although Teferi has won CCU twice, it's still a fringe deck. There were some others like Tivit, Sisay, Kenrith, Tayam, TevKraum which could have been played here as well but in the future perhaps?! (No Black pod is VERY interesting too, no AdNaus, good tutors, etc.)
Either way, very happy and excited to see cEDH on this channel.
This is fantastic to see; I love seeing the CZ folks get into the competitive side of Commander. Great for the format, and the community at large to have the faces of commander exploring this. Great job y’all, keep this going!
Would love to See Atraxa in that one
This is awesome to see you guys do cedh! Higher is a great guest to start this and maybe we see more of this in the future!
They should have played Tivit instead of Tefferi for some compilation vs kinnin.
The laugh at the Goldveine Pick was great.
Winota: Cedh stable
Teferi: Old Cedh commander, not particularly good anymore, but it was a supreme card once.
Slicer: Wh..what??
Kinnan: Insane Cedh stable
I feel like I already know who is gonna win x3 My guess is Kinnan if the game goes long (which it does), or Winota (If the stax is established).
Edit 1:
Kinnan won first game, obviously lmao
Edit 2:
Winota won second game... Like, this was predestined lmao
I've heard about slicer in cEDH for a couple years now, think it's pretty good in the format at least.
Winota has been a dead deck for a while. Kinda like 6 cmc Narset. Too good for casual, but not really seen in Cedh anymore.
Also Slicer was a deck for a few months. Then faded. SO also not what I would call a top performer. And Mono blue Tef been gone for a while.
Now Kinnan is #2 - #3 deck in the format, depending who you ask.
My thoughts exactly. Some out of the meta commanders vs Kinnan is sure to be a bloodbath. I’ve only seen game 1 thus far so maybe I’ll end up wrong.
Never seen higher before but love the fact he’s out here making Bruce all mighty quotes
Video at 2:42
Cam and Dylan are built for this show. Their vibe is unmatched and their interview scenes would be on point
I hope they get to try $100 cEDH. It is a good entry point for those coming from a more casual environment and is instantly relatable to those who want to try it without breaking the bank.
I feel like $100 cedh doesn’t actually capture the essence of the format all that well. Also, the cedh community is probably the single most proxy friendly community in all of mtg
Seconded 100 dollars means you’re playing in the spirit of cedh but not truly the format. Proxies are fine I want to play against a deck not a wallet. But if I bring my 5k kinnan I will feel a bit bad blowing a 100 dollar slicer out of the water.
@@nikhilchhagan7371 As much as the cEDH community is proxy friendly, there are also people who prefer playing without them. cEDH is a mindset, not a format and a $100 limit helps in variety and more satisfying game duration. There may be broken cards but they can be kept in check by lacking card quality in other areas. Besides, the fast games would not suit the length and style of videos that the Command Zone prefers to make.
@@MFobes cEDH is not a format. It is just Commander with a different mindset. The $100 limit is meant to instill creativity and variety as well as a control over broken cards by forcing players to consider the pros and cons of running them when they still need to worry about the quality of the rest of their cards.
@@mikotagayuna8494 that’s the thing though, cedh isn’t about creativity or expression. It’s about playing the absolute most optimal deck possible. You have to understand that playing a budget deck in a competitive format is inherently losing some competitive edge, which is not in the spirit of the format. Even if you did want to try to do budget for fun while still maintaining the CEDH philosophy, $100 is way too low considering most CEDH decks are 30-50 times that
Love that you guys tap into cEDH aswell!
Since this is being exposed to a huge crowd you are doing the community a big favor luring more people in 😉
"If you guys wanna try out cEDH and spend thousands of dollars, head on over to card kingdom and get some new cards." 😂 I swear guys most guys in cedh pods are okay with you proxying cards. This is not a battle of the wallets.
They have to it’s a sponsor lol
@ryannelson1648 I know. Just a joke. 😅
Amazing! The episode we have been waiting for. Next time it would be awesome to see you battle it out with Cam and Dylan from Play to Win. I'm sure that those dudes would bring some great vibes to a video :D
Can y’all do more cEDH please
Everyone but DJ having One Ring protection was hilarious
LET'S GOOOO
Definitely cool to see command zone finally dip their toes into cedh. Games can go fast but interaction with high level decks are definitely more involved and fun. Hope to see some more of this in the future. And yeah, agressive mulligans are the thing you do when your deck needs a certain start.
LOVE to see this. But for the uninitiated, this is barely cedh. These are all decently weak and poorly optimized cedh lists (excepting potentially Kinnan but it doesn’t seem to be the typical list). Hoping to see some stronger cedh soon!
I find it hilarious how Extra Turns now uses Splatoon sound effects. Equipping is the charger and untapping is a bomb about to explode. Glad to see funny squid game get some rep!
Sooooo yall gonna have playtowin on in the future? 👀
Love to see Higher here, let's go! Awesome episode and love the cedh gameplay! Can't wait for more ❤️
