I have just done 1600 miles in a 2021 Focus ST Line 1.0 Ecoboost, manual. My previous and most recent cars have been an Audi A4 TDI, BMW330E, Audi A3 Etron PHEV, Audi A3 4.0 TDI-E, a VW-ID4 and an MG5-EV. I was a bit shocked how good the Focus is and how good the 125 BHP Ecoboost engine is. I have been driving like Miss Daisey most of the time as the government tax on fuel only allows me to claim £0.13 per mile and I've averaged 50mpg on the trip computer. However the trip computer is around 3MPG over optimistic. The handling is sublime in corners, it sticks like shit to a blanket. If they did a PHEV version I'd buy one. Currently there are no more Focus models being produced as some of the parts come from Ukraine.
11:48 - Thought he was exaggerating about this bit when I saw the video yesterday, had the car today and experienced the exact same thing. Matt speaks the truth.

Are you going to do a Carwow cars of the year awards? That'd be pretty fun. You could have an award for each car category and then best in class for interior, boot space, fun, etc. I guess similar to a Doug Score but more on the review side. I think that would help a lot of people to decide which car they want
My only issue with the most recent Fords is that the interior quality just feels cheap. The one my partner test drove before she got a Corolla was just naff. 800 odd miles on the clock and the seat frame creaked and there was a irritating rattle in the centre console. Yeah I'm not stroking the soft touch bits of a car as you drive along but when Ford keeps pushing the price up each iteration, I'd expect a little more perceived quality.
We bought the 125 bhp focus estate when the government scrappage scheme was on. Got 2k trade in when our old car was worth less than a grand. As we specced it, including the scrappage allowance, we saved virtually 5k
I like the cupholder solution - pretty smart being flexible. The car looks quite good, but yea it certainly lost some sporty personality and is now blending in with most of the competition, but it is still well proportioned - I think the front is really well solved with a clear DRG. I guess Ford had many reasons for changing the look of the car and for certain one being the growing Asian markets - Mazda did well with their new visual concept about 10 years ago which can is seen quite clearly in this Ford Focus ;D. Carwow reviews are the best guide for anybody needing to by a regular car.
I do love the focus but if buying it for long term use bare in mind when it becomes time to change the Cam belt it will set you back £1500 because on eco boost engines it's built into the engine
That last negative point about maps...just click the sound adjustment button to get back to the Ford Sync system without unplugging your phone. Once you're they're, click the Ford Nav button and you can use maps whilst Spotify etc still plays from Android Auto. It's not a slick way to do things, but I found this out on the road and it's 'a' way if you need it.
I was expecting to see electric windshield defrost feature of this car among cool things because it is very very useful in cold weather. Cool review as always anyway
In the UK all cars except the Style model have this electric windshield feature as standard. Ford patented this technology the Quickclear Windscreen. So that's Zetec, Titanium, Titanium X, ST Line, ST Line X, Vignale, Active, Active X.
The lane keep assist should be able to be switched with the button that sticks out on one of the stalks. Thats how it works in my mondeo. Should be the same
I agree with you 100% Let's all do our part to contact Ford Customer Service and tell them we want the Focus to return to America. If we all contact them, they'll wake up and listen to their customers. Thanks for your help in this effort
I don't think you will be able to, check 18 months old Focus 1.5tdci st-line now. You have to pay around 12-13k, and that's considering that is the old model. If you want to pick one like this for 9 grand you will have to wait some 30-36 months
Not a chance, unless you're getting one with close to 100k miles on the clock lol. I just sold my 16 plate Fiesta ST for 11.5k. This car is considerably more expensive.. expect after 3 years for it to be about 13k if we're talking ST line or Line X models. Base model you'll be able to get for around 10K probably.
Molly's Lovechild No chance you’ll be getting one 9k unless its Cat C or something and has high miles. I sold my 66 plate for 11.5K last year. But I’ll defo get a new shape one that’s at least a year old.
8:30 I have a 2021 focus st like x and it does not have this storage under the light switch which the previous generation focus had. Why does this have it and mine doesn’t
It kinda does actually, it's the first mainstream car with a HUD as an option and it reinforces the full LED headlights trend started by Seat I think. LED headlights seem like a really good thing to have. On the other hand it continues to do the things which Focus did well, like having heated windscreen as standard (except on the base model) as well as rear independent suspension (although it's a bit disappointing that it's only for the higher powered versions. Few things will compare to the MK1 though.
@@xIcarus227 it doesn't have them as standard like other cars in its class . Even the ceed has them . Still Fords in big trouble , because of Hyundai Kia . I reckon give it a year and VW will have taken them over .
I have the 2019 st-line and the reason they never show the active steering for avoiding the pedestrians is because the st-line version doesnt have it due to the front bumper not having the proper sensors. Also alert for the lane departure is not a beep but the steering wheel starts to vibrate. Its really cool and you would have no reason to turn it off.
Just had one on a rental for a week and it's one of the best cars I've ever driven the fiesty 1ltr turbo easily embarrasses big German power cars it drives like XR3 but with 2021 tech. Steering handling & gearchange are fun. its relentless yet friendly. Just love this car
For anyone getting this, keep an eye on the parcel shelf conectors, mine were in the fiesta ST line, but the exact same part, mine actually broken 2 weeks in. I repaired them no problem, but very cheap and very flimsy, be careful. Looking at the Focus now though - I love the Fiesta but wish I'd waited for the ST line focus.
Hard isn't the same as brittle and soft isn't the same as quality! It's entirely possible to have cheap easily worn soft plastics and expensive strong and durable hard plastic!
Don't take the 1.0 EcoBoost in this car, go for the 1.5 Ecoboost or take one of the diesels! The 1.0 ist perfect for the fiesta, but not for the focus (in my opinion).
I have been in the ford focus a few weeks ago and my opinion is that it looked good (very sporty) but there were different things (materials) in the interior that looked very cheap and I'm certainly not critical about things like that but it really struck me ...
I bought my first Focus in 2003 and absolutely loved this car. My next one was a 2012 model that I liked too but got rid of as it developed that clutch problem. I then bought a Qashqai and absolutely hate it. I'm now considering getting one of these. It's a great looking car.
@@Mr_ZPguy My 2012 Focus clutch would stick to the floor when changing gears. Many visits to the garage didn't fix it properly. Apparently, it was a certain group of cars from a certain factory at a certain time. I searched the 'net for it and found a forum with pages of similar problems with that car. It started squeaking before it happened for the first time, like a rusty spring. Really annoying to drive with it and started to become a safety hazard when trying to drive. Hope this helps.
S What attracted me to it, is that it seems Ford had taken some of other iconic hatch car designs and made their own spin on it. Look at the 2019 1 series BMW and the A class Mercedes and i think it’s almost like a hybrid of the two cars. I personally love it although i like the old focus, this is just my type down to a T. The only bad thing is you’re no longer saving a great deal, so if you wanted to go the extra for the better branded cars it wouldn’t be a massive jump i think. It’s only good if you wanted that specific car and not just opting for it because it’s a fraction of cheaper option then the car you actually would want.
I have an LX hatch and it's a joy to drive on mountain roads and I'm geting 38-40 mpg. The only bad thing is the shifter isn't the typical Honda slick but other than that it's fantastic. I've driven a couple of CVT versions and I wouldn't recommend it.
Same here. The civic returned to India last week and the bookings are full. I really wish ford could bring back the focus too. It would sell like hot cake.
@carwow: If you want to listen Spotify together with the car’s nav, just use Bluetooth to listen music 😉 Only charging becomes a problem then. But I love my new focus!

Do you mind me asking what reasons you have for owning a gun?
Sport shooting is one of the genuine reasons for owning a firearm.
There are numerous others such as pest control, primary production, business or employment, etc.

@Ardent Fan because he is getting paid obviously. All these reviews are partial paid for adverts rather then unbiased honest reviews. It's ok to watch as long as you do your own researches like yourself.
Just dont expect honesty...
12.21 you can turn that lane assist off, its the button that can be seen on the end of the left hand stalk... at least that's what that button is for
in a fiesta
I don't know why there is so much hate, I actually do like the look of this #fordgang
Just bought a mk 4 estate and I'm very impressed. The MK3 was terrible, but ford seem to have got things right with the mk 4
you can turn off lane departure by pressing the button on your blinker stock/handle or whatever its called
FYI, you can disable the lane assist system by clicking on the button on the left flash lever!
I'm not even from the UK, not even planning to buy a new car, but I still watch every single of carwow videos
I think u can turn off the line departure warning - there is a bottom at the end/edge of the blinker which cuts it off.
Um mat, what happened to ur carwow suitcase. It has only two wheels!
I do love the focus but if buying it for long term use bare in mind when it becomes time to change the Cam belt it will set you back £1500 because on eco boost engines it's built into the engine
The extra steering function is top of the line! :D
Finally recommended a car to buy!
I had the last model 1.5 120hp eco blue tdci. And I was getting 650-700miles per tank. 70mpg ave. motorway 85+
Is it a good car
I was expecting to see electric windshield defrost feature of this car among cool things because it is very very useful in cold weather. Cool review as always anyway
Thank you carwow 😃
Not worth the glare that it creates day to day imo. I'd rather leave the house five minutes earlier
There is an option for that together with heated steering wheel.
In the UK all cars except the Style model have this electric windshield feature as standard.
Ford patented this technology the Quickclear Windscreen. So that's Zetec, Titanium, Titanium X, ST Line, ST Line X, Vignale, Active, Active X.
@@niandra92 Glare? How do you get that out of it? I've had two Fords now with the feature and I've never seen any glare.
The lane keep assist should be able to be switched with the button that sticks out on one of the stalks. Thats how it works in my mondeo. Should be the same
it is the same. can switch off with button on left stick
@@dadycommunity2784 Oh cool. Thats what i thought
I love my 2014 Focus and really bummed Ford is giving up on cars here in the US
I agree with you 100% Let's all do our part to contact Ford Customer Service and tell them we want the Focus to return to America. If we all contact them, they'll wake up and listen to their customers. Thanks for your help in this effort
Honestly, MAT you are number one CAR EXPERT worldwide....🌹🌹🌹
Nah I think I'll wait 18 months and get one for 9 grand... thanks deprecation😁
I don't think you will be able to, check 18 months old Focus 1.5tdci st-line now. You have to pay around 12-13k, and that's considering that is the old model. If you want to pick one like this for 9 grand you will have to wait some 30-36 months
@@EvilijoUK still a good buy 3 years old. But I get what you mean.
Just sold my 15 plate Focus to a trade dealership for £11k, not even part ex.
The problem is it doesn't move the game on even a little bit. It's a shame when you consider what a game changer the Mk I was.
it's not a shame, other cars have caught up.
Deuteross Absolutely...the new Golf will embarrass this later this year.
@@kraenk12 and what makes you say that? Judging by the current VW lineup, I'm expecting a disappointment.
Mat, what would you choose between Focus 2019 and Kia C'eed 2019?
Kia c'eed. Value for money.
Audi A3!
Just had one on a rental for a week and it's one of the best cars I've ever driven the fiesty 1ltr turbo easily embarrasses big German power cars it drives like XR3 but with 2021 tech. Steering handling & gearchange are fun. its relentless yet friendly. Just love this car
I work in Ford France and yes this car is insane !
Dorian M i wouldn't describe a Ford Focus as insane...
And a Peugeot profile picture. Good luck
@@soumaknandi9218 And ?
@@techmaster777 Probably not insane but brillant, that is better for you ?
Dorian M I probably wouldn’t go that far either lol
I can agree... my mum has a 1.0 eco boost, and I don’t think there’s another torque or punch, also it’s a ford automatic which makes it slower still
ageeed
Why mat is always hiding the carwow score with his finger?
so it doesn't give away the verdict for the end of the video
Because his verdict is last in the video i think :) he also hides wich dealer that made the offer on the cars. Wich also makes sense
because he shows 2017 ford edge :-)
It’s just to hide the name of the dealer who made him the offer, so Carwow are not seen to be promoting a particular dealership.
Mm
I have been in the ford focus a few weeks ago and my opinion is that it looked good (very sporty) but there were different things (materials) in the interior that looked very cheap and I'm certainly not critical about things like that but it really struck me ...
just got my focus st line. i love it i hope it makes me happy yea. turbo 1.5.
You can turn off the lane departure warning by pushing the button at the end of the left washer stick, I have a fiesta with it.
The best car in its class! Great review, but the boot can be optioned with a false floor, and there are padded knee rests on other trim levels.
@12:18 you can turn the lane assist off! On the left leaver is a button to do so!
I bought my first Focus in 2003 and absolutely loved this car. My next one was a 2012 model that I liked too but got rid of as it developed that clutch problem. I then bought a Qashqai and absolutely hate it. I'm now considering getting one of these. It's a great looking car.
You know it makes sense!
What clutch problem?. My brand new focus just started doing some sounds in the clutch. I'm getting it checked out.
@@pinkycoffeeboat Well at least you had a stick. The PowerShift is much, MUCH worse.
@A real petrol-head What kind of car do you drive? Probably a Honda Civic ricer, with big boy exhaust.
What about the automatic version is it dual-clutch or which technology please, I want to buy a used ford focus 2020, thanks.
Can't wait to get the actual ST 😍😍 hope it's a good first car 😅
S
What attracted me to it, is that it seems Ford had taken some of other iconic hatch car designs and made their own spin on it.
Look at the 2019 1 series BMW and the A class Mercedes and i think it’s almost like a hybrid of the two cars.
I personally love it although i like the old focus, this is just my type down to a T.
The only bad thing is you’re no longer saving a great deal, so if you wanted to go the extra for the better branded cars
it wouldn’t be a massive jump i think. It’s only good if you wanted that specific car and not just opting for it because it’s a fraction of cheaper option then the car you actually would want.
I have the ST Line 1.5 diesel. Got it yesterday. Loving it so far. Still learning all the switches and buttons haha
Too bad can’t get it in North America. Probably just gonna buy a civic now
I have an LX hatch and it's a joy to drive on mountain roads and I'm geting 38-40 mpg.
12:40 How is that annoying? Wrong section XD
Oh yeah good point
Weird thing is that he already listed 5 bad things but squeezed in one more cool thing
Can you still listen to the radio and use Android Auto for Maps? Kinda weird you cant flip between the two? Even i can do that on my 16 plate Astra.
Definitely can with apple car play, assume the same with android
yes
Wots Mat on about then
@@lolwtfbbqx I think this is taken from an old review he did. He also got the. it about the lane assist wrong.
Matt the type of guy to arrive at a party early to seat up the chairs
you can turn off the lane keeping aid by pressing the button on the end of the indicator stalk
