This is the first time I've looked at a Focus and thought "I'd actually have that". Those designers have done a great job with the front bumper area and modernising the interior a bit too!

Mr. Ajar that is due to the electric/magnetic permittivity of matter, that doesn't really mean it bends light. I guess it depends on how you define 'bending'.

Being a ford man, at 1st I didn't like the way it looked but seeing it more now on the road it's starting to grow on me, wicked video aswel 👍🏼
Yeah I agree, and Mat was right when he said that the car looks much better IRL than in pictures. I don't know who made those promotional pictures but they did a really shit job.

The ST is a cracking looking car. I've had several Fords and it was the interiors that always let them down. This new Focus looks fantastic inside. Great review, as ever.
Loved this review. I literally bought this car today and I was so overwhelmed test driving it and going through the finance stuff that i forgot to ask soo many questions. However this review has just answered them all!! Thanks Carwow :) my car is currently in Belgium can't wait till it gets here

I rented the last model for a week. I could not have been more impressed. I would never have thought I would like these coming from a Challenger but I was extremely impressed. It feels very light on its feet. This may be my next car.
You should test the sound system as well, please include that in the upcoming interviews

What he's driving isn't even the standard st line. As I have one.
@@Matt19matt19 it is a standard st line but with extras. I’ve an STX which comes with 18” wheels and privacy glass amongst other things.

@@Barlogan it might now on the stx 🤷♂️. If I remember correctly the head up display was a £250 extra . Or part of a pack. Convenience pack or something. 18 months ago.
Head Up Display is a £1300 option on most Audis, but standard here. Incredible. I've got it on my A7, and it's brilliant, I wouldn't want to have a car without it. It keeps you focused on the road.
This one isn't as nice as the Audi system, it has that little sheet that sticks up, but you can't be too disappointed at this price.
Got a heads up display on my m135i and had on my 430d. I can’t ever imagine daily driving a car without it.

Ford has focused so much in detail that this makes it the best Focus ever! Brilliant front design “ST version”. Wish if the headlamps could be more slimmer. It looks far better than conservative VW Golf. Focus is always fun car to drive and practical as well.

There is a sizeable difference in how cars like BMWs, Fords, Mazdas and SEATs drive compared to Mercs or VWs for example.
@@xIcarus227 in the past 3 weeks I've gone from scirocco, to a 67 plate bmw 2 litre courtesy car, to a 14 plate golf. Of course there's a difference with how they drive. The difference is I stick to speed limits mostly as I have a young child, so the 'fun' factor is just obsolete. Literally no difference in how I drove any of those 3 cars
@@xIcarus227 also, it's the people having 'fun' on roads that put drivers like me and passengers like my son in unnecessary danger. Want fun? Take the car to a track and destroy it there, not on the road
You don't have to kill the speedo to have fun, it's about the way you feel the car. You completely misunderstand what a 'fun' car is. Has to do with handling mostly.

My mum bought a focus-combi last year and we absolutely love it. Such a decent car, we drive it between 4,5 and 4,9 litres diesel.

Hi Mat 😄, your car review vids are always fun and interactive. I'm surprised and don't fully understand why Ford is not bringing the 2019 Focus to the U.S. I think it would go over well w/ millennials not married w/ kids, high school, and college students. Ford did an excellent job with this new Focus. Not sure if I'd want one for myself. I'm a single millennial, and I drive a VW Jetta here in the states that I'm very happy with. The Focus hatch is certainly longer than a Golf. Again, awesome review Mat, I'm very much looking forward to the 2019 Volvo S60, I'm a sedan guy.
Considering the class action against the DCT transmission which caused lost lives, maybe this is a reason. The DCT did not work. Went into neutral on highway ramps. The stuff of horror stories. And Ford covered it up.
Love the look of the new focus, looking forward to seeing the proper ST version and what they do to an RS version. Hate the screen I side though, looks like an after thought and tacked on. Should have kept them built into the dash.

The 8 inch screen on dashboard looks like a book balancing ,it would look much better built into the dashboard as it cheapens it
Saw this model and colour today and was surprised how good it looks. Had not seen any pictures before so had to find a video on it.
I have only driven a focus once while my Ford Falcon was being serviced but I really remember about it was that it felt so zippy and used next to no fuel. It was a fun little car. The only aspect I didn't like was the lack of middle armrest which I see is now available on the current model but the Falcon seats are much more comfortable than the small cars.
The ST Line X doesn’t have the heads up display as standard, it’s an optional extra, as is the B&O speakers.....

I think the st line has parking assist as standard, the active we bought got that as standard either way and I think the same thing goes for the st line

Looks great! I never particularly liked the last Focus (either the exterior or interior), but they’ve always driven well, and this new one looks a lot more appealing. There’s something about it that reminds me of the 1 Series - especially the sides.

The host is quirky and entertaining and it’s a solid review. Even thought I can’t get the new focus. I will be subscribing to this channel.

@@fantasyproduct1042 I love it. It's beautiful, drives perfect. It does use a decent amount of fuel and it's 'slow' for 150hp, but fast enough for daily driving.

SPACE = the Focus MK III had even more worse legroom, boot space than a Skoda Fabia, how pathetic, compared to that their cross overs like Kuga/Escape had way better SPACE, the Mondeo again , it felt like even a VW Jetta/Skoda Octavia has more room inside than these stupid Fords

I see a lot of these in my country. And its normal that the sales went down since we are in a pandemic. However, they made a sale on these cars and the st line brand new was 19.9k€ compared to the usual 26k. They had 6 cars lefr when I wentw there last week. They sold everything. I ended up getting a 6 month old one with 7000km for 20k

Test drove a 1.0 st-line, can honestly say its far more comfortable & more fun to drive than the mark 3 & seems more practical too although i will find that out soon as mine arrives late November to replace my 2015 facelift mk3 1.5tdci titanium (Having previously had a mk3 2011 1.6tdci zetec & a 2007 mk2 zetec 1.8 petrol since 2008). Of the 3 ive already owned, i can honestly say that for all the extra tech & improvement in comfort, neither of the mk3's were as fun or as practical as the mk2 or as better built
Too bad we're not getting it in the US...

I'm from the land of tea and small hatchbacks :) but have travelled to the States quite a few times. Getting a gas powered monster truck rental is always part of the fun! But had a decent offering of Focuses and Camrys for example
It pulled up next to me at the lights on my left and my wife asked what it was from the drivers seat i could only see it from the front wheel arch forward so i said its the fiat 124 spider abarth without looking at it proper then they flew of the line and i saw a hatch back i asked her what it was and she said the badge is ford.
Its a great looking car they had it specced nice but ford facelifts their car way to often i didnt know they already had a new one out.

I was having a discussion with a colleague about lotto winnings and we've hit a disagreement.
If I was to win say 3 million dollars, he seems to think I would have to pay tax on it if I took more then a certain amount of it per year.
Is this true or incorrect is my question.

I would not have chosen the older focus this over older golf but the newar one is now better than the golf

I can only find now a 1 litre ecoboost engine in their range. Anything larger is a range of diesels.
I'd like the new 8 speed Automatic but with petrol only the 1Litre engine is shown on the Ford website.

Matt excellent review & it's a great option this big car with a relatively powerful 1.5 Litre 182 bhp engine (almost equalling Fiesta ST) & impressive 0-60 figures of 7.7 secs. Should one prefer this over the new Fiesta ST 2018 peeps? Time to think 😃!!

Edward93 I think I am on the same lines however the grunt and exhaust sound you get from the ST will definitely be different and prominent. But keeping in mind space, comfort and practicality I am definitely leaning more towards the Focus ST-Line being an owner of the older model Fiesta ST 😉
Depends what matters more to you? I'd imagine the Fiesta ST will outperform this by a larger margin than numbers suggest.... But if bigger more refined car is what you're after, then the focus is the one to go for 👍

He was driving the 1.5 which is a 4 cylinder and has cylinder deactivation. The 1.0 is the 3 cylinder.
Leigh Chapman the 1.5 litre is a three cylinder, he says it in the review and my parents own this exact spec Focus and it’s definitely three cylinders

Always like that... Problably because Ford is a really strong brand in the US (I guess). A Volvo is a better buy in Germany than in Sweden! A loyal home market with a national "brand car" seems to make the deal worse...

We have our third Ford Focus, we ae both retired and I am now 80 years old, an ex-motorcyclist as well. Our current Focus is a 2011 2.litre, 163 Diesel bhp Titanium with all extras. It has lije the others very reliable and economic of fuel, 45 (Imperial) MPG fill-up to fill-up. Over our local mountain pass, I love wtaching th BMWs and Mercedes even the AMGs trying to keep up going all over the road with our car keeping between the lane lines at all times. Over 40 years of no accidents where I was in any way at fault and I have just changed the tyres and brake pads for the first time (tyres still with 3 mm of tread on them) at 83 000 Km or 51 000 miles. Who needs a BMW? Old man's car! ready to renew but checking the availabilty of the diesel with AdBlue so no restrictions on where I can drive. Question? Why is it that some vehicles are now banned from some cities but smokers are allowed to be there? Yes, my wife and I have never smoked.
