    Damn commendable effort by Mahindra for the 700 series. I happened to see one on display at a local shopping mall and upon approaching thought that the bonnet was unlatched. Closer inspection revealed massive shut lines all about the vehicle; nice interior but those piano black surfaces were already heavily scratched/blemished and dumbfounded as to the certain high level of luxuries (Merc-like front driver seat controls, all manual for passenger side, Tesla like pop out door handles but halogen rear taillights). An interesting mix, and well priced.

    As someone in the US (Miami), it's always interesting to see the somewhat off the beaten track options available in Oz. In a former life, I was a subcontractor to vehicle OEM's (selling enclosed truck space for film shoots, events and prototype transport) and chased Mahindra USA, for a short while. Their only focus stateside is farm equipment (they have brought in their version of the Jeep Wrangler but, short of some adventurous buyers, have never seen one in the wild.) Given Oz's relative proximity to Asia, as a whole, it stands to reason that consumers would be less judgmental when it comes to vehicles from the likes of India and China / Korea to a lesser extent. I spent 20 (formative) years in Singapore, so don't hold the same prejudices (My brother lives in Brisbane). Always a pleasure to run into your reviews, Paul. Thank you for the content, kind sir.

    • @yissibiiyte
      @yissibiiyte Год назад +18

      I don't think Australia's proximity to Asia has anything to do with their acceptance of less famous brands. It's just that Americans are too stubborn and brand loyal to even consider a brand that hasn't been in America for at least 30 years.

    And one thing I noticed that Mahindra have launched only petrol version in Australia not the diesel version (which is available in India and i might be wrong) because in the diesel version you will have different drive modes known as Zip, Zap, Zoom and a custom mode where you can customise the drive feel as per your likings and the top end model comes with AWD (All Wheel Drive)
    And yes one more thing to add, the model name AX7L the “L” stands for Luxury, which differs it from AX7 model with the features like Sony’s 12 speakers system, 360 degree camera, Electronic Parking Brake etc.

      Well the truth is there is a fair amount of competition in Indian market. While it's true that foreign cars face elevated tariffs, this mainly applies to CBU imports. In reality, numerous automakers such as Kia, Hyundai, Volkswagen group, Honda, and others have a significant presence in the market and wield substantial influence with their diverse product offerings. Moreover, a substantial amount of their vehicles are manufactured locally in India due to which they are priced similar to their Indian competitors.

    I don't understand why you find it surprising that both the Scorpio-N and XUV700 drive so well? Is it because of your prejudice towards Indian brands? What is more surprising to me is your prejudice coupled with the fact that Australia has no known home grown auto car brands to start with. It will be good if you learn to appreciate without prejudice.
