      Not really any diff in amount of time or money spent than many spend on their hobbies, the difference is that they are all items on display in such amount.
      My first thought is too easy for someone to steal from him or he damage a fire would do. Would never want that on anyone. I would just worry too much to have them in the garage

    Just dropped from 2,300 cars to 1,800 cars recently. This hobby is fun and enjoyable no doubt but really sucks the money out of your bank.
    Some might justify it's okay because you're not spending it on drugs or alcohol. Regardless, in the end of the day it still is an addiction if you can't control yourself.
    Im glad this guy is genuinely happy with his collection. If he is able to financially sustain his hobby then that's great but a tip for newbie collectors reading this - Make sure you buy what you like and not recklessly spend your money or cars for the sake of collecting it only

      Yep totally an addiction. When coronavirus occurs, i dont go to campus and i save 90% of my money. Since then i already buy like 70 diecasts, mostly $10 cars. But totally worth it when u know which type of diecast youre into (in which i decide i only collect limited models/discontinued brand), make u easier to stop on this hobby, since i dont have to keep up with the upcoming models🤣

      I just began collecting in 2015, but from the start decided to focuse only on racing cars, only those who entered races in the remote 1967 season. Now, in 2021, I fulfilled quite my goals, and have only 576 models (mainly 1/43 but Around 60 in 1/18 and 1/12) . But I am happy I did it, will put all the models in special purpose built stands, and then stop. I am with Drifter D here, and I can tell you that ain't a problem to stop.At least for me : Why ? easy to guess, because it s know harder and harder to find models I don't have !
      I spent a budget around 35000 USD, in seven years. Not a reasonable amount of money, but the average price of each car ( die cast, assembled kit, or kit to built ) was high priced, I wld guess higher than 70 USD ( 35 € = 30 USD was a low priced item in my research,) and with shipping costs. I used Ebay,and specialised shop, the only sustainable solution to find what I was looking after.
      advice : stay focused on what motivate you starting a die cast collection, concentrate on it, and once done, STOP.

      @Anth230 6 лет назад +22

      Good thinking. A collection of a couple thousand is ok. But 30000 is obssesive and Serves no purpose but cluttering up your house. (Though this guy has his collection well organized) I mean when you have three diecast deep on your wall....WHAT IS THE POINT??? You can't see them or enjoy them. Having 20 of the same car in different colors is a waste of money and they will never be worth anything more than he paid. Most likely less. A bit of advice. Collect what you like and don't feel obligated to buy every piece like this guy. Select each piece for it's uniqueness. I know collectors that collect just about every piece Hot Wheels releases EVERY YEAR. That amounts to at least 500 a year when you factor in all the Walmart exclusives and premiums sets. These same collectors also buy matchbox.

    • @Anth230
      @Anth230 6 лет назад +3

      @Markus Patients Yeah..matchbox does a really nice job on the real cars but they release them several times. One sample of a particular casting is probably sufficient for any modern collection.

    • @Anth230
      @Anth230 6 лет назад

      @Markus Patients lol...well they are gonna do it and it's not against store rules for the most part. I don't mind people who go in and raid a pallet and just take supers and the stuff they like. They got there first so good on them. What DOES bother me are the resellers that buy most of the store inventory making shortages of common stuff. But I won't feed into. I have fun collecting but NOTHING is worth the Hassel of paying more or driving all over the place to obtain.....i have better things to do and more rewarding hobbies to enjoy.

    The greatest hobby in the world in my opinion. I have been collecting for approximately 60 years ever since I received my very first Matchbox VW Beetle which I still have. I recently built a 16' X 24" toy room to house and display my 13,000 car & truck collection. I also like building the garage dioramas and layouts for photographing, as well as customizing and restoring these little gems. I must say, I never got into the Jada stuff. Very few made it into my collection. Some looked pretty cool, but the over sized wheels and out of proportion bodies never caught my eyes enough to purchase many. This gut has a fantastically nice and organized collection!!!

Nothing like this guy has just few thousand cars mostly 1/64. The plan was sell them. I started by setting some aside and having the kids pick out some they like and it turned into almost 100 cars set aside mostly 1/25 and I find myself on eBay looking for cars to finish sets and trying to figure out how I can display them so they don't get dusty or damaged. Great. WONDERFUL collection indeed. All cars I have, well the most part of them I don't have the boxes. This is in another level I have about 1500. Many of them I have played with since was a kid. I display them so that I can see them all. Of course with 30000 of them much more space needed. But still I have to take them out of the box. Many congrats for your wonderful collection.

      There's difference between a collector and a modeler. I own several model railroad cars myself and almost all of them LEAVE the box at one point. This guy COLLECTS (which is still perfectly fine) and his passion is certainly a rare but amazing one.

    He said something about die cast that look like the real thing, were are the JOHNNY LIGHTNING'S? My collection is nowhere near what he has, but most of mine are JL, with a few select HW that were my favorites in my younger years. It was great to be young when HW were put on the market. All of us boys in my neighborhood raced our cars all summer long, what memories!!! I'm not knocking his awesome collection, because it is an AWESOME COLLECTION!!! but I got to play with mine.

    I know people always seem to think these huge collections are cool, but in reality they end up owning you and becoming a misery. A small-ish focused collection is far better in the long run. Speaking from personal experience and that of others.

      So true! Not trying to be mean, but personally that wall of stuff is... puke inducing.
      The cars were meant to be marketed to all different individuals, to own all the toy cars is saying you like all the cars, which I guess he would as he is a car event organiser.
      But I only buy what I like for anything I like, not try and collect them all (like video games). Those guys have hoarding problems.

      Nah, his collection can't be worth any more than what he paid for it, but it's his passion and his collection has lots of sentimental value and he probably wouldn't sell it even if he was offered a million dollars for it

    One thing is these types of car go up in price, sometimes bigtime. I have been in the hobby since the early 90's. You can get certain cars, and after they are long discontinued, you might get 4 or 5 times what you paid for them.
