    Nicely planned out. The single idler/tensioner appears to more than doubles the chain engagement to the drive sprocket making it very secure.
    I’m interested in seeing how you create the tensioner setup now in the confined space that you have.

    Really nice build.
    A good touch will be to do a couple of threaded holes in the sprockets, so you could attach some screws to help pull it out.
    As you tested, they come off through the hole, but is a tight fit, not so much room to fingers.

    • @mihkus
      @mihkus 2 года назад +3

      I would also go for 2 chains, even if they wear they are unlikely going to hop teeth. Ive built a lot of different chain driven machines and Im worried...
      Secondly those bearings arent sealed, theres just steel shields on them which would get all kinds of crap in them, they're cheap, maybe he'll just grease them more often, with something super thick

    • @martylawson1638
      @martylawson1638 2 года назад

      Making a proper dual differential tank transmission is pretty easy too. Tanks use highly optimized versions, but that's far from the only way to do it. 2 differential axles and chain is enough for the simplest versions.

    • @rolfnilsen6385
      @rolfnilsen6385 2 года назад

      @@martylawson1638 Modern tanks left the differential setup many many years ago as far as I know. I served on the Leopard 1 which was designed in 50/60s. It came with an automatic gearbox handling steering and propulsion. It transferred power to the outside track instead of braking the inside track to increase mobility and speed.
      For homebuilding a braking differential is probably the easiest way to to it as you mentions. Donn did this in his amphibious vehicle build but used a single differential.

    It was nice to see the wood processor, the transport band and the trailer crane again while driving past with the loader. Nice touch :-)
    I was hoping for a wood handling comment/short and wether your efficency plan worked out.
    This build looks just insanely sturdy. Looking forward to see how you mate up the parts for the propulsion - and the crane for this "Sherp - I'll go anywhere thank you" trailer.

    • @DonnDIY
      @DonnDIY  2 года назад +1

      The wood handling is definitely more efficient due to the IBC crates and the mini-loader. However - the wood processor could be faster and more powerful. So there's room for firewood processor mk2 in the future.😀

    • @rolfnilsen6385
      @rolfnilsen6385 2 года назад

      @@DonnDIY Yeah, those electric splitters are not very fast. You can easily purchase the valves and put in a new splitter in your design. But knowing you I suspect you will rather do a full on MK2 :-D

    Donn, the tandem axle you are using is also known as a walking beam axle, and has been used for many decades. It provides little "shock," or sudden impact protection, but, by it's design is well suited for trailers of many types, and was a similar idea used in military ranks many years ago.
