So... the double parking lift in our underground garage broke (literally, as in: there were two parts) and my MT-07 fell down the 3.5m (11.5ft) deep hole underneath. The lift maintenance crew shrugged and just left it in there. Insurance guy wouldn't go down to look at it. Local hoisting company told me they don't have the equipment small enough to get in. My brother in law has a winch on his work truck but it's also too big. He did help, however, because he has seen this video in the past. We took the cable off his truck, brought it down to the garage, hooked it to the frame of my motorcycle, threw it over a ceiling beam and tied it back to the rear wheel's hub. I almost wish my baby fell in there again just so I could see it winding itself back up the second time. Thank you, Ryan, for brilliant ideas! Best hold-my-beer experience ever!
Love these vids! Back in the day, I had a Kawasaki Big Horn (2-stroke 350cc single) dirt bike. Damn near lost it in what I thought was a shallow mud hole. Bike was impossibly buried in the mud and I was all alone in the middle of nowhere. I used the tip & drag method to get it out! A few years later, I was out exploring some unfamiliar roads on a '81 Gold Wing. The country road I was on quickly turned to dirt and then something almost resembling quicksand! It was so bad, I got off the bike and it stayed standing up (but bottomed out on the frame). I explored ahead on foot and found the road improved a lot just ahead. I went back to the bike to try and move it forward. Standing next to the bike, I started it, put it in gear, and leaned it over as far as I dared and 'walked' it forward, letting the rear tire get traction on the sidewalls of the rut I had been buried in. Since then, no more mud for the big bikes!

Hey Ryan, if you want to skip the chiropractor you say is needed, try this: 1.Turn the handlebars to full-lock with the front wheel pointed into the ground. One handgrip ends up close to the gas tank - right where you want it. 2. “Sit” gently with your butt/lower back on the motorcycle seat. The bike may rock/pivot a bit underneath you. 3. With one hand, grab the handgrip closest to the bike. An underhand grip works best. 4. With the other hand, grab a hard part of the bike (frame, subframe, luggage bracket, etc.) Be careful to avoid hot parts and soft parts (plastic, turn signals, hoses, wires). Use gloves if necessary. 5. Now get your feet out in front of you, solidly on the ground, about a foot apart, with your knees bent slightly. 6. It’s time to lift the bike. Use your leg muscles. Lock your arms and take very small (baby steps) backward, keeping your back straight. Maintain control of the bike and do not twist your body while lifting. 7. If the bike was on its left side … be careful not to lift too much and flip it onto its other side! (done that...) Once it’s upright, carefully put the sidestand down with one foot. Voila, bike is upright and the chances of pulling yoir back are far smaller :)

The winch out using the rear wheel would be awesome, as long as you don't have a shaft drive bike with drum brake on the rear. I've accidentally sunk the rear wheel of my Suzuki Boulevard in soft sand at a friend's house and it wasn't very easy to get it out by myself. But low and behold, just minutes after I got it back on solid ground, my friends came home!! They had a good laugh about it, and now a few years later, I can too.
You don't have to tie the rope around the spokes all you have to do is give it three wraps and it's own tension will hold itself. As a tow truck driver I always give my winch line at least four or five wraps around the drum minimum and physics does the rest.

Great tips! Not many people know about the hub winch, sometimes called an Aussie winch as it's used in Australia quite often.
Canadian tire should have this kind of traction aid too! Im sooo buying this for my rwd daily. (I don't even own a motorcycle yet, your editing and videography style is just too awesome to ignore)
I see a FortNine video, I smash the like button. Then I watch it, even if it doesn’t relate to my riding.
Ok...so...brilliant! Best MC channel out there. ...literally out there. Thanks.
Keep it up Ryan and the rest of u at f9. Y'all r the best
You don't have to tie the rope around the spokes all you have to do is give it three wraps and it's own tension will hold itself. As a tow truck driver I always give my winch line at least four or five wraps around the drum minimum and physics does the rest.
I don't forsee myself in any of these situations, but this is great information and a ton of fun to watch. You did it again!
Nothing like a fresh Fortnine video after a day at work
I was stuck in the mud and couldn't get myself out literally 3 days ago. Thanks for the super informative video.
