Lake Lenore was the first and only lake that I fished for Lahontans. Fly fishing using wooly bugger. The average size was 24 to 30 inches. My friend landed a 34 inch.. back the mid 80s.
When i was a kid in the 80s and early 90s, Lake lanore had some great fishing for big cutts. Haven't fished it since, but i heard its a shell of what it once was
My buddy and I hit Omak last March and I had a 10 pound Lahontan swipe at my jerk bait, came off after one second of being hooked, thrashed around on the surface after coming off and diving away. It was so big it looked like a salmon. Now that I know, I can fish it year-round, I might be back in the next couple of weeks.
Thanks for the great video! You could make only vids of this Lake, and I would be happy. Yes, it is expensive, but A million fish and no one there. That too me is heaven. Been many times and plan on going again soon. Magical experience.
Looks like a lot of fun and worth the price the tribe charges to fish there (despite the occasional loud mouthed bobber fishermen, similar experiences have happened to me too). Too bad about the kid at Grimes lake forced by dad to fly fish when given the chance to jig a blade and actually catch some fish. I have never used a blade jig but have been very impressed with your results for several species of fish at various lakes and rivers.
I fished there as a kid in the late 80's caught alot of kokanne too. But I never knew about all them regulations back then. The summer i spent up there in Washington was awesome!
Speaking of Grimes, unless you're at the launch, STAY IN THE BOAT! Tick central along the shoreline. Hammered steelhead spoons work well for hardware.....
Omak is such a beautiful lake! My nephews and i make it a yearly trip to fish there. Last year one of my nephews caught a 8 pounder outta there! It was awesome!
Thanks for this vid, one of your other videos on Omak helped me catch my first Cutthroat ever, a nice 23 inch male. The only question I have is I thought the road to the beach was closed in the winter, do you park at mission bay and hike over?
@ I highly recommend it, I know it’s a drive from Wa but it’s worth the experience. I lived by pyramid lake in Nevada before I moved to Washington but can’t go a whole year without fishing it
Lake Lenore always produces good size fish, but I always observe Russians taking more than the minimum. When I get there I’ll watch the people there and there always is a group of that’ll leave with a cooler and come back and fish some more…… They usually stop fishing when they see me with a GoPro lol

Great video! Really like seeing you fish east of the Cascades in some of the lakes out there.
I catch them on the fly rod, with chironomids under an indicator on the floating line and casting a leech with the sink line.

I ran into actor George Kennedy at Omak Lake in about '86; he was with not his wife and her child.

Try throwing a 5 inch Rapala in cutthroat pattern.
Works in the spring for sure. I have less luck with it in winter
