I think what people don't really give a second thought is how much trust we put into our kayaks when we go out fishing each time. These kayaks for most part if were behing honest is just fancy plastic. But the temperature extremes that I have put mine through are truly amazing. I have fished in near freezing temperatures all the way up to temperatures over 100 degress and the kayak still performes without any issues. These things are meant to keep us afloat and yet manage to do it in various weather conditions. Truly amazing if you think about it.
My goofiest trolling setup for big rainbows is an 8 weight fly rod with a fast sink line and a 4.5" hoochie. Very effective and lots of fun when you hook a big one!
I was just sitting here earlier today wondering to myself how early this year would be "too early" to get myself over to Lk Roosevelt, and then you post a video of catching fish a handful of meters from my favorite overnight anchorage spot on my favorite resevoir in the world. Question Answered! Good work.
I can attest that the J & K dodgers thump, used them on Anderson Ranch back in May with good success, will be putting them to use on Roosevelt in a couple of weeks. Thanks for the Videos.
Nice video and a good move on the launch delay. That early morning chill can make it very unpleasant. For the rainbows stocked here in Arizona, it seems each time I go out, there may be a slight difference in what the trout want when I'm trolling. I take along a fly rod and 99% of the time I catch them on a balanced leech under a slip strike indicator, I just have to vary the depth to figure out where they are at.
Went over to J&K at the beginning... Great looking gear And the prices are crazy cheap for what you're getting. Would be super cool if they made gear for saltwater salmon
Thanks for braving the elements for us all. I have an eagle claw, but the yellow one. How do you feel it compares to this featherlight blue one when a fish is on? Any feedback would be appreciated.
Soo..what shrimp oil do you recommend? I use raw and cooked shrimp pieces now and they are killer but I can see where shrimp oil would be better. In fact I could use it on those scuds and maggots you recommended. The scuds are AWESOME, BTW. haven't tried the others yet.
I use Pro-cure water soluble oils. They are great because are easily absorbed by the maggots OR can easily applied to flies but washed out with a little soap and hot water. alnk.to/8iV7pFx
Hi, is this normal for Roosevelt not to be frozen at this time?? I'm actually not very far, in Southern Alberta and everything is 2-3 feet solid ice...
You get cold at 20 degrees? There goes my theory that you are an ai robot trained to think like a fish. I would need heated boots and gloves if i went out at 32 degrees. I get cold in 45 degrees, even with a full dry suit and such. You better get a million views on this one. 32degree kayak fishing is a higher pay bracket than 70 degree Kokanee catch limit fishing. A few people should join me in donating a bit more for this kind of inspiring effort.!

We have been watching you for years! To see our Chub and Squid waving in the background gave me chills! Surreal 😊
Trolling for fish is an art. Trolling for fish in a kayak is hard. Trolling for fish in a kayak during winter is incredible. Awesome video!
I love watching those takedown! I get so tense waiting for each one.Great video. Those were some incredible fish.

Thanks for all the great advice over the years, & thanks for giving us a try!
Thank you for your support. I'll be adding some additional chub dodgers to my arsenal. They are deadly.
@@spiltmilt Heck yeah! And if they don’t work, you could always hit them with it!
That would actually work!
@@spiltmilt It’s a line from one of my favorite movies , Snatch.
Anything from customs to original works Tyler, let me know!

The weather and water looked really nice to fish. The next day it snowed. Go figure.

Another great video. Always enjoy your outings and teachings.
Nice fish! Is there more drag using the J & K dodger?
Yes

Very colorful video!
Man do be safe out there
I am. Full immersion suit is a must.
@spiltmilt i promise to buy a mustang ccs before the next kayak trip...tight lines

Higher end build, composite and stiffer blank, I'll be doing a full review soon
Wish I could get back the kayak still frozen here in Co.
I should be working on two outboards right now…. But here I am.
That second fish tried to turn your kayak backwards, and almost succeeded!
Man I wish there were good winter fisheries around me. I'm too lazy to drive a couple hours in the winter. 😅😢
I have to drive a bit myself. Def not a fan of 1.5 hours of frozen fog white knuckle driving.
Are you attending any of the sportmans shows? For me Puyallup fair grounds is the one I will be attending on feb 1st. The other 2 are in oregon
I am not.
Great video! What is your impression of the Featherweight Pro rods? Seems like they handled those big bows fairly well.
Pros and cons. I'll be doing a full review in the next few weeks.
"veskar" lol. this is the way!
Its so shiny LOL

What gloves you using ? That is my weakness in cold weather fishing, trying to get gear to stay warm and still able to fish.
I run nitrile gloves as base to keep my hands dry amzn.to/3DNh4py and then I use Fox River fingerless gloves on top amzn.to/4g5NZ6p
Do u have videos of jigging for trout on kayak or catch em on flys the same way u would ice fish
I jig with different lures for trout in open water but use scuds under an indicator sometimes
What was the brand or maker of the heavier dodger you caught the first fish on?
J&K Tackle "Chub" dodger. Linked in the description as well.
Hi there
Do you put maggots on your spinner set up?
One on each hook
👍🏼
I always forget your American while watching your vids. I always assume your Canadian for some reason. Might be the terrain in the background.
The Columbia Basin and Okanogan highlands are almost indistinguishable from our counterparts in BC so that does make sense.
Is that Roosevelt?
Yes
