    Thanks Mate for such detailed comparison review, i am comparing Sony 35gm and Sony 35 1.8 ,If I am a video maker and don’t really mind focus breathing issue. Wondering the video images quality gonna make any noticeable difference on FX3 ‘s 4K 10bit ? Consider the resolution is very low on 4K. My key consideration is image quality on video.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  3 года назад

      Hey! So I don't think you will notice a difference in sharpness between the 2. Potentially the differences in bokeh will be noticeable if you shoot super wide apertures. The focus system is also faster on the GM but again, the original 35mm is so fast you would have to really be pushing the limits to notice. I think the new 35mm GM is great but if you are primarily shooting video, it's harder to justify

    • @easonwang3275
      @easonwang3275 3 года назад

      @@learningcameras Thanks for the idea Dan, if the difference on image quality is hardly noticeable. I would go with 35 1.8 consider it’s only one third of the GM price. I would like to buy GM if its any better on video image quality though, but I feel like GM is maybe more for photography.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  3 года назад +2

      So I use a 35mm lens and 50mm lens the most for general shooting. Works for just about anything and it just depends on how far away I want to be from my subject as to which I'll pick. I don't often use a 24mm just because it's too wide for people and not wide enough if I want that wide angle look. I'll use a 20mm occasionally if I either need more in the shot or want a wide angle look

    • @dswatson83

      So yeah, I tend to use 82mm for most of my filters so I'll buy whatever step up ring is needed. Ideally I would like to own 2 sets of filters for 82mm and 67mm so everything 67 and smaller gets the 67mm and everything 72mm and larger gets the 82mm but that gets expensive lol

      @@dswatson83 Thanks for the fast reply! I was wondering if you could say which ring specifically. Yours looks to extend forward a bit, and kind of fan out rather than just step up and out to accommodate the large 82mm. • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  3 года назад +1

      I don't find a 35mm has much distortion unless you are REALLY close. We use a 35mm for more environmental portraits so the subject is never all that close. If you want a true 35mm, I use the 1.8 way more. But since I made this video, Sony adopted focus breathing compensation to most new cameras so with that feature, this lens now works really well for video, it just ends up being about a 40mm+ lens when that setting is enabled and 45mm when you ALSO add enhanced stabilization. Nice lens, but it is too expensive for me.

    I’m so torn between this and 24mm

      I personally use a 35mm more but I would just throw on a 24-70mm or kit zoom for the day, go out and shoot and see if you prefer shooting wide at 24 or if you end up wanting to zoom in a bit in which case buy the 35

    The FE 35mm F1.8 is not a G lens unless you have an unannounced future product.

    Looks like a nice lens...but really. 3x the price of the 1.8? Is it 3x better? No. Is it twice as good? Hmmm no. Ridiculous price just because it's got a red G on it.

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  3 года назад

      It's less than double the 1.8 price here...not 3x. $650 specifically. There are definitely some improvements in IQ, build, and physical dials but obviously "worth it" is different for everyone. It's also way cheaper than a Canon/Nikon 35mm 1.4. I actually didn't think the price was that ridiculous but lenses have diminishing returns for sure

    • @Phillyo118
      @Phillyo118 3 года назад +1

      The 1.8 is £549 in the UK, the 1.4 will be £1500. That's pretty close to 3x the price over here which is a big ask for a lens that, although better, isn't 3x better. I would guess that 90% of people who looked at images side by side would struggle to notice the difference, especially in this day and age of social media uploads? YMMV of course.

    NGL looks great. But the hype is just hype. Almost 95% of users will be just fine getting the Sony 35mm 1.8 or the Sigma 35mm 1.4/1.2. I'm sure the GM is better in some aspects but unless you're doing weddings, street photography, etc etc professionally...get something cheaper

      Its kinda like the 85mm 1.8 and the 85 gm 1.4
      85mm 1.8 is just as good

      @@TimandLauren you're right about the 85mm focal length but the same can't be said about a wider 35mm. 1.4 does make a lot of difference in bg compression compared to the 1.8. I think for the size and exceptional image quality that price is worth. Of course the 1.8 is good enough for most people but if you want the best you're paying only a fair price
