I just picked up the 35 f1.8 for Christmas and now wondering if I should return it for this one. I wanted something small and lighter than my 24-70 f2.8 for street and travel shooting. Love that this lens is sharp wide open.

Hello Jason! AN absolute fan of your videos! Great job! I had a question, been considering getting an a7c for the updated color science, improved autofocus and no video record limit ( stills basically the same as a7iii) but my only concern is the handing of a7c.
Are the 85mm and 35mm and 24mm lens small enough that we can grip the a7c without rubbing the hands ???

More options are always good. I personally have the 35mm 1.8 already so I don't think I will be upgrading, even though I love the focal length. You should do a video on a comparison on all the 35mm out there.

@@shayan_2003 depends what kind of video. if you're vlogging, you want something wide.
Taiwan filled preorders on the Sony 35mm f/1.4 GM at the beginning of Feb. I've had mine for 2 weeks and love it. If you go budget and buy the f/1.8 lens, never pick up the GM lens and use it. You'll hate yourself for not spending the extra bit of cash to buy it. Is it worth twice as much as the Sony 35mm f/1.8? Most definitely!

Great review as always. I traded the 1.8 version for the 1.4 version because the focal length is sooo perfect for just about everything
I avoided buying any lenses for over a year - that changes as soon as this bad boy is released. This one is a game changer and a must own for me. 35mm is the PERFECT walkaround focal length, and Sony figured out a way to give us a lens that isn't a brick for daily use. Great review.

Nice can't wait until it comes out. I noticed your GM zoom at 6:36 has a bit of bubbling on the back end on the zoom ring. I had this happen to my 24-70 GM and had it serviced by Best Buy under warranty. They replaced the zoom ring at a local camera repair center. Would you happen to know if being a part of Sony Pro Support fixes problems like this? The zoom ring gets warped due to extreme differences and changes in weather.

The last time I was shooting Sony I was using the Sigma 35/1.2 and loved the image quality, but it was an absolute tank. This lens might be bringing me back to a 35mm prime. I'm not totally impressed with the 35/1.8.
How would you compare this to the Zeiss 40mm f2. I was so close on pulling the trigger on the 40mm but this lens looks great as well! (For videography)

I’m looking to buy my first prime lens and want just one that I will use for ever. It will be for some landscape but mostly portrait and street photography. This has been really helpful in making the decision to save up for a lens that will spend a lot of time on my camera

Hi Jason, Love your videos man! Going to surprise wifey with the new A7Siii and need your advice on the perfect walkaround lens. She'll be using this primarily for street photography, disneyparks, city day and night shots, indoor events like conventions, and weddings. Going to need one lens, for now, to start off. Would you go with the 16-35 2.8 GM, 24-70 GM 2.8, or the new 35 1.4 GM Prime lens? Cheers!

@@yuanzofficial thanks! Maybe I just need a lens upgrade as I’m using the FE 50mm/1.8 but not happy with the low light capabilities. Maybe one of the sigma trios would do like a 30mm/1.4 or a 56mm/1.4
Do you prefer this brand new 35mm f1.4 lens over Zeiss Batis 40mm? I know they are different focal length but I think they're close enough to compare.
Do you need to use a flash with this lens, I never see a flash being use is the internal light that good?

How would you compare this lens with the Zeiss Batis 40mm? Any feedback from anyone would be great. Managed to get my hands on the 40mm to test and it’s a beautiful lens!
I’m a 28mm fan and loooooooooove the Sigma Art 28mm f/1.4 on my Nikon d850. It has heavy vignette and I believe that is what I like about it . With 28mm I shoot in the central part of the frame. Use leading lines a lot.
I just got this 35 and the fe 24mm gm . Loving them both. Also looking at the 135 gm or the Sigma Art 135 . Probably stick with Gmasters even though I’ve liked the image from the Sigma 35 f/1.2 Art and the Sugma Art 135 f/1.8 . The size has a lot to do with it and close focusing on both focal lengths too .
I do have the samyang 35 1.4 (also very sharp in my opinion) but i am more curious about the creaminess...May be a comparison? :)

I am deciding b/t this 35 and 24 GM.....I am Fuji APS-C shooter now with 23 1.4 (35 in FF) and 50 1.0(70 in FF) but looking to get a a7 iv by the end of the year. I will keep both Fuji and Sony. So which lens is better for me that makes more sense? I shoot portrait or environmental portrait a lot, also video. Fuji auto focus is not that great especially in video.

Great! Now seeing this gem out I can't unsee the lack of a 24mm 1.8 G lens, lighter and heaper than the hero GM version and making a great company with the upcoming 16mm 1.8, as the 20mm is not everyone's taste

According to tony review it actually focuses closer than the 1.8 but you have to be in Manual mode

This seems like it would be my favorite lens ever.
Except I already have the 20mm G lens, and most of my work goes onto people's social media so resolution really doesn't matter.
So I take that 20mm and crop to an equivalent 30mm.
I’m happy with my 35 1.8. I will prolly use that money and get the 135 gm. That is a beast

I would love to hear your thoughts comparing it to the 40mm Zeiss Batis. And also, other than depth of field, how big is the difference really in low light conditions between F2 and F1.4. That kind of review like at a concert would be fantastic! :)
It’s a one stop difference, so double the light. I don’t think you’ll use this lens for fiction or commercials, but it is unusable for anything like that, every time you focus the frame zooms, it’s called breathing, and it’s the worst I’ve seen from any lens.
I only do concerts. Mainly wide-shots. But basically only low-light. And I wonder how much difference in the aperture one stop really makes. Is there a way to calculate that?
