- A step by step video guide on cutting a piece of Peridot. From the rough state to a faceted gem. The style of cut is a " Trillion" cut. The gem is cut on a Australian faceting machine called a "Facetstar" If you enjoy such videos please subscribe. I will be making more videos on cutting gems.
I envy you . It is obvious you love not only what you do but also the stone you cut. I believe you are a happy man.
I find faceting fun and relaxing. Cheers
That is beautiful, you CLOD!
Thank Ivan....
@@VintageTimeGems Sorry if some people did not understand my reference. It's from a Steven Universe. And honestly though, I really enjoy watching your videos. I own some rough crystals as well. And I sometimes think of what they might look like if they were to be faceted. And watching your videos makes me feel so good. You create things from something that is rough and irregularly shaped into something that is beautiful and worth looking at.
I'm scared for life

Magnificent cut, beautifully executed. Trillion might be my favourite cut of all, but sadly doesn't lend itself so well to men's jewellery!
Beautiful work. Things always come out better when they're not done for money.
Indeed
Yes, agreed Russell. Take care .
I love your videos Vintage Time. You are all about quality.
This beautiful gem is my birthstone!! Absolutely stunning the way you cut this gem and made the fire and brilliance shine through. You sir are amazing!!
Thank you. I glad you enjoyed this video.
First time in this sight. 🥰.
Beautiful Green.
Peridot is my birthstone it also one of my favorites.
I always like the color of Peridot. A good gem to facet.
Me too and also the favorite of Kleopatra.
I love Peridot, it’s my birthstone. I own a 200 ct uncut rough stone. Your cut is magnificent.
Such a beautiful
Your cut is a round table tri point cut
Thanks Peridot Y...Thought you would enjoy this video.
Peridot is a JOY to cut. You do AWESOME WORK.
Thanks Jeff. I agree. Peridot is a nice gem to facet.
Stunning display of a real professional. A+++++++++++++ work!
Thanks Ian...Hope you enjoyed the video. Take Care
I love peridot! Favorite gemstone hands down.
Mine too.. As a Kid I was given jewlery with them, bc it was the bitrh stone of leos.. They are called "cat eye" here.. 😻
I think it's a top notch gem also...Well worth faceting.
Me too! ;)
Subbed after one video. Its just idk relaxing intersting. Never knew i had a love for gems till i saw them being cut.
I love peridot. It's my birthstone, and my favorite color is green. I recently got an 11 carat stone at a modest price, being that it has eye visible inclusions, but the green is so rich in hue, that I fell in love with it. I had it set in a silver ring and hope to pass it in the future as an heirloom.
Love your videos. Keep em coming! I'm excited on which stone you will cut. (The citrine or topaz)
just watch that you don't bang it. only like 6.5 on the moh's scale. it's my birth stone also. set in gold supposed to protect you from any bad dreams.
i also have a large dark green peridot about 11 carats emerald cut and i have it set in gold bail as a pendant. and happy birthday to you. i'm on the 7th aug.
@@rugerkidd2076 a belated happy birthday! I just celebrated last week. I'm on the 15th.
It’s my birthstone to!
What are you doing to the precious CLOD
You do beautiful work!
A few weeks ago I asked you to make a trillion cut. Today I've just confiremd that this cut remains by far my favourite. Thank you so much for the video and what a spectacular result with the peridot. Have a good day.
Yes, I have to admit I do like the "Trillion" cut myself. I will definitely will cut more of this particular design.
Man I wish I could do that a lot of your jewelry cutting it's excellent got heart of gold keep the good work up
Thanks for your kind words....
Extraordinário, uma peça de rara beleza. Um destine de BOM gosto e um fino acabamento.......Parabéns.
The quality of your work goes way beyond being a hobby.
Hi Rufus, your right it probably goes beyond a hobby...Cheers
This is art! Great job.

Peridot is a fantastic gem. Both in colour and ease to facet.
Peridot is still the gem of the Sun
Thanks for doing the video!
Thanks Steven....Take care mate
Sir i love your videos awesome videos alot for learning
Can you do a video on how to start and what is needed for equipment to start ect. Love the vids
Is it me or whenever you search up a gem like Peridot, Garnet, Amethyst or Pearl etc the first thing that comes up is something related to steven universe.
The temptation is no more resistible than the corruption blast
Hi Cliff, once again, congratulations!! I'm a big fan of your work!! You are one of the people who made me fall in love in this world of stones and gem faceting.
Today I am learning this art of lapidary, one day I want to get to your level of skill and knowledge.
Hi Cel, This is the main reason why I make such videos to inspire people to learn a art form that many think is not achievable. Let me know how you progress in faceting? If you enjoy creating your own gems, you will find it very addictive. Best wishes Cliff
@@VintageTimeGems Hi again Cliff, thanks for show this amazing work!! Do you have a contact to show my first gems and you give me some tips? Stones that i'm working: rutilated quartz, smoky quartz, citrine, green gold and topaz. Thanks!

Ok now the ratio is going too far the other way so I’d just like to say that this is Yellow Diamond’s favorite RUclips video!
I like your videos very much, keep it up ;-)
Very very beautiful my birthstone
My pleasure,
It seems your lighting for filming was inadequate, especially for the reveal. It just doesn't present your work in the best light. I love Peridot, I have a piece as big as my fist that is completely encrusted with tiny crystals. Love it.
Çok güzelbir uzay taşı olmuş Hocam elinize sağlık saygılar...
Thanks Hakan....Have a nice day.
G day ,
Many hanks for great video again always enjoying your faceting adventures you ar posting .
Peridot is on of my favorite Gems they are really stunning .
Your finishes always looking stunning . What i would like to see also how they look like when magnified so we can see the difference of finishes ? As i noticed you have different finish laps ? would be great to see it also enlarged .
Thank you and continue the good work .
cheers
There is really no much to see on the lap. Very similar look than grey sandpaper. Thanks for watching.
@@VintageTimeGems hello I actually mean the stone can you show the stone a little magnified to show us how proper polished stones should look like :-)
CLOD CLOD CLOD CLOD VINTAGE CLOD!
Are you his ex wife ? 😲☺️
Gostei vai meu jóia 👍
Peridot is a younger gem discovery then the "queen of gems" Emerald.
As well I think most people associate the top five gems as Diamond Sapphire Ruby Emerald and Topaz.

Abby & sammy when I read that comment I was reeling a little because every stone mentioned is a character!
NICE and BEAUTIFUL. of you...
PERIODTT
Congratulations on you excellent work and videos! I am a beginner faceter and I always have trouble polishing. I use a thin polishing film disc, but it has happened to me that when I am close to finishing, a scratch appears. Where do you get that polishing compound?
I know what you mean, i'm having the same problem with polishing fluorite in a tin lap with cerium oxide.
My birthstone
I really want to make a hammered aged copper ring with some small peridots in it.
I having seen what you had I think my San Carlos stone was bigger but probably not as workable as your Tanzinian stone.
But I am not a master so I dont know yet.
Lovely shield shape and faceting. You've really confused me as to the difference between Topaz and Peridot. Is there any rule-of-thumb method of telling the difference in smaller, picker-sized, raw stones?
Peridots are always a shade of green yellow. Topaz tends to be yellow but can be blue pink red peach white or even purple.
Thanks. Yellow-Green i would say describes the colour. Since my local creek is an ancient volcano run-off, that would probably indicate Olivine from lava. I'll definitely keep an eye for more, but ones recovered so far are too small.
@@jeanphillippes2196 olivine tends to form smalln another reason for its rarity in gemologist culture.
Gems exceeding 3 cm are not very common and those exceeding 10 cm are down right rare.
Fun fact: the largest gemstone of peridot crafted was a whopping 187 carats I know because I operated a rock shop and my boss bought it it was found in San Carlos Arizona it's a simple round cut gem and probably older then world warI.
Hey love the videos. Question:
How does one go about removing peridot crystals that are embedded in hard lava?
My guess is to just saw it out as close as possible and then polish off the matrix
The miners generally just hammer them out. Hit the rock, not the peridot. Use a chisel to direct the force if needed. Might put a tarp or towel underneath to keep from losing small bits. Generally no need to saw.
@@canadiangemstones7636 I have really hard lava. They call it bluestone. Still the same technique? It takes a lot of force with a chisel and hammer to break them.
Very stunning :D May I ask what the final carat weight of this gem is?
It's around 1.5 carats....Anything cut over 4 carats you are talking about a large Peridot and big bucks......
Awesome :D thanks very much for responding. @@VintageTimeGems
OMG.. I'm a chef that wants to be a geologist.. My uncle cut gem stones.. I have some of his tools,.
@Dfg Sdfg Sadly, they are Very expensive, but You can rent them too.. I've rented some sessions with my stones.. 😻
I'm a musician and wanted to become a gem cutter. Any spare time had to be devoted to learning gem cutting, all other irrelevant stuff like watching TV got canned. You can follow your passion
EinieN J, but this means freeing up hours in the day to do what you want. Now I can do both things I love.
@Dfg Sdfg 😁
@@VintageTimeGems 😘
When you choose the pattern do you want to cut extremely important to choose that pattern with the right R I ( refractive index ) if you choose the wrong one for that stone which is paradigm it won’t sparkle correctly just look up refractive index for peridot or refractive index for a ruby for me for active index for sapphire and ruby is sapphire so saying refractive index
I always check the RI without question.
Sir please make a video on how to use faceting hand
G'day Cliff. Have you ever tried to facet Moldavite ? Also what is your favorite cut ?
Hi Ricky, My favourite cut would have to be a Portuguese Cut. But that could change over the years. I do think a "trillion" is a nice cut so more of this design will be done....Moldavite, no never faceted that. Cheers
What if peridot saw this?
Hmmm... don't let that clod see this.
okay ?? she can get cut up too, periodt

Is the color in the reveal footage correct?
Yes
So I just happened to find some gem quality peridot in a restricted area of the California desert. It was found deep in the bombing ranges of 29 Palms. Im looking for someone willing to cut them!
I'd go to a local gem club and facet them there.
