- This videos shows the steps in cutting and polishing a faceted gemstone. I use a facetron faceting machine . For those who do not know, cubic zirconia is a synthetic man made material, not to be confused with the natural gemstone zircon.
I sell finished jewelry on Etsy.com, my shops name is Gemsbymbk.
I bought this gem from the artist's Etsy store after finding this video. I was entranced by its shape and color, and HAD to have it. I can hardly wait to receive it!
How much is the price pls
@@simplelifev 35 dollars
Beautiful design. Excellent Sour Apple Green (Peridot-like) colour.
That is a marvelous stone. The excellent cutting job and the high R.I. of CZ really "answers the bell". Very nicely done on the C3 facets... I've never met a faceting machine that "liked" to cut at ten degrees. LOL
Thanks much for the video!
Thank you john, yes , ive chipped stones before when cutting at those steep angles, also you can gouge a soft metal lap such as a batt lap too, it happened to me and i was turning it slow- polishing.
I had a viewer wanting me to cut a large stone from this color cz in this same design but i havent been able to find a piece big enough. I wonder if this design would lose alot of sparkle and brilliance if cut say at around 30 or 35 millimeter in diameter.
You are a very experienced person in this field.
Very nice. The color is vibrant and the cuts make for some mesmerizing diffraction, I'm sure!
Oi
Beautiful color, high-quality cut!
Great looking stone. Awesome work as always Brent.
thank you very much.
Now that's a nice gem stone! Really bright and colorful.
Thanks, it did turn out very nice, i have done a 2nd one , look for it soon .
Stunning !
I don`t even know how I ended up watching this but this is great. Would be nice to show BEFORE / AFTER in the same picture at the end of every video. Well done.
Thanks, im working on how to do that, my editing program doesnt have that capablility that im aware of but there are other ways im sure.
Beautiful work!
Thank you
Beautiful stone! Great job! All the best. JOE
Thanks very much joe.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how a real gem is made.
Beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Very Nice,thanks.
Amazing machine u have sir.
thank you, it is a very accurate one.
Beautiful !
Unique Cut I really like this cut very much
What a stunning stone.!
Thanks very much .
I have never seen one this colour..the cut you did on it is so well done it captures all the light into it and the colours just dance inside it..also it’s given it more dimension too ..Your very skilled 😀
Thanks very much. im looking for more of this color material when i go on buying trips to the shows.
Beautiful!!!!
Good job😉😉
it's sooooo shiney
This design really sparkles.
Wow your good!!! 👑✨👑
What a beauty 🙂
Well done.
Thanks very much
Beautiful job
thank you chuck.
Amazing !
Cz has a perfect shine if polished right....its safe to say you have !
Keep it up 😁👍
Thanks, the first few cz stones I did left me shaking my head about the polish but finally I figured out what I needed to do. There is differences in the quality of the material which can hinder the perfect polish.
Good to know. Learn something new everyday 👍
This is a cool cut!
Yes, it works great, not difficult to cut either, thanks for watching.
Admirable !!
Thank you, ill soon have another video up of the same type and cut gemstone but different color. if you liked this one, keep watching.
Muy pero muy bueno el trabajo ! Una maravilla!,,
gracias y gracias por mirar
Beautiful design and cut
Thanks paul, watch for another galahad cut soon.
БОЖЕСТВЕННО КРАСИВО!!!!
спасибо, этот даже ошеломил меня своим блеском.

@@Slava-Gay777 Да лично, это очень красиво, я был очень удивлен, увидев это, когда закончил.
Beautiful... I like it I would buy it myself if someone hadn't already bought it. ❤ ❤ ❤
actually, i hated to see it go myself but i cant keep all of them.
Amazing work ,🙏
Thank you brian, that one came out really nice.
very awesome....I wished you could help me to know some of my gem collection that was so lovely gem stones
Great professional skilled artist
Thanks.
Increíble trabajo
Gracias , amigo
Incredible gemstone! Would love to socket that on a piece of armor! hahaha just kidding!
Amazing work! Keep it up!
Thanks very much.
How would you mount it? Cubic zirconia would probably work pretty well on armor, there is also flame fusion ruby / sapphire, remember.. Do you recommend any armor / metal workers on youtube who would take on such a task?
@@Ogg13tube Hey man, I did some research back a while ago on this topic and generally armorsmiths dont actually like adding gems to their armor even if its decorative. Ive read also that socketing gems in armor would be wrong, if it was ever done was by encrusting them. This article in metmuseum speaks briefly about it but it sure seems like a subject which few people work with... www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/dect/hd_dect.htm
@@macarebe I'm surprised the essay made no mention of the black prince's ruby, which was actually a red spinel.
A very good job congratulations
Thanks very much maurice, this one really surprised me when it turned out so brilliant. CZ usually does but ive had a few that werent so great. thanks for watching.

Wow it is so beautiful. I am amazed. You are creating increadible beautiness. By the way do could you make some tutoring videos. I am pretty sure there are bunch of people like me who would like to learn faceting gemstones or may someone could sauggest me some youtube channel who teaches it
Thank you, i have a 4 part tutorial posted , look back thru my videos. also the ultra tec website has some good ones, look here on youtube for faceting 101.
Thank you sir. I appreciate.
What is the silver thing at 14:12? I can tell it has some sort of flame but I've never seen anything like it.
Beautiful work. I have never seen that cut before, and it's stunning with the color and clarity of that gem!
That is the tip of the alcohol lamp that holds the wick. I agree, this cut is really nice, ill be doing more stones with this design. Thanks
👏👏👏👏
Congratulations on the excellent polishing !!! I am Brazilian and I admire your work a lot. I could say which product is used for polishing, because their gems are perfect. Congratulations!!!
Thanks very much.
Gems by mbk Could you tell me what material is used for polishing?
@@ThiagoSilva-rz5oz For this stone which is cubic zirconia i use a 60 thousand grit diamond paste.
Gems by mbk thank you my friend. I will continue to appreciate your beautiful work !!!👍🏻
Love the videos. I've been learning a lot from your process. Your first dop was epoxy but then when you were cutting the pavilion, it was back to wax. Was there an issue with the epoxy holding?
You are very observant, yes i had a failure with the epoxy and went to wax . i guess i didnt get the glue mixed correctly or sometimes when i use the kind of epoxy where the 2 parts squirt out together , they dont come out quite evenly.
regardless i had a failure and had to correct it.
@@tennpikr74 Yes I've seen similar failures for similar reasons. I've switched to just wax for now. Regardless, lovely stone.
I always cut pavillions using superglue, then switch to epoxy for the crown. I have heard of a method where you press the rough into warm soft wax to make an impression, then coat the wax with superglue, resulting in a very strong bond which is much easier to release when the time comes. Haven't tried it yet.
@@Ogg13tube I had some training on Saturday and the gem cutter used that exact technique with wax and super glue. It's nice since you don't have to heat the stone on transfer. Great for heat sensitive material.
yes the epoxy didnt hold so i went to wax.
could you use these methods on metal? like a nickel-iron meteorite with widmanstatten patterns, faceted, etched to reveal the patterns, and then the raised portions polished to a mirror finish?
i think you could facet metals but i dont think a beautiful polish could be achieved, and i believe the cutting discs would not survive very long.
@@tennpikr74 Not sure, I think the laps would be harder than meteorite, but polishing the remaining metallic relief would be challenging. You may fill in the etched portions with swarf from the polish. It's an interesting idea at least.
Bravo , very interesting video , pleace , can i know wich kind of glue you use and where i can buy it ? THANKS
Use 2 part 5 min epoxy, you can buy it at any hardware store.
good job fixing the subtitles

The machine is very good. Where can I get this type of machine.?
they are made here in the USA ,

Hi, I use a Facetron, and it's starting to squeal like a banshee. Can you recommend or advise on what I can do for the bearings?
Also, why do you tape over the dop set screw?
I love your speed, I would love to see a list of your preferred vendors. perhaps throught email? Thanks
Hello, once the bearings start to make noise theres not much you can do except replace them. Are you sure its not your drive belt making the noise. I thought my platens bearings were making noise but the belt was the cause. i sprayed wd 40 on the belt and the noise went away.
I cover the hole with tape to keep out grinding swarf and water.

do you sell these gemstones on your store as loose gems...? i would love to put something like this in a ring i'm making... gorgeous...
yes, i have more to list soon.
@@tennpikr74 i actually want to buy this one... LOL... working on an infinity gauntlet style ring setup and this would be perfect...
Sorry i want to keep this one in my collection.
@@tennpikr74 Aww... How much does something like this cost...? I want big gems, and everywhere I look, they're all 10mm max...
@@GumbiiGrows thats hard to say as i dont see them either. If you went to a cutter and asked him to custom cut something like this it would probably be $100.00 or more. The rough piece of material alone cost me $25.00 or this one. I recently sold a hope diamond replica that i had cut for $90.00.
This cut gives the stone a lot of "fire" - as we say here
yes , its a nice desgn.
@@tennpikr74 I am astonished about the diversity of the designs you uncover. It is interesting and pleasing. What is your source, if I may ask?
I think this one came from the faceting academy. A lot are from faceting diagrams .org, also pinterest has a few., The US faceting guild has quite a few on their site. I also have some books with some in them. Gemologyonline.com has some in their gemology project pages. Rockhounds.com/rockshop/gem_desgns. thanks for watching.
@@tennpikr74 thanks for the enlightening
Is "The Star of Gallahad" a type of cut or did you just cut a (very pretty) CZ and then name it as if some Maharaja is gonna wear CZ?
Hello, actually i misspelled the word , it has just one l, galahad. Anyway no i didnt design it or name it . A well known faceter , jim perkins is the one who did that. It is a very nice cut. I was surprised it was so brilliant.
So It's a type of cut I've never heard of. Very pretty. Actually, I could see it taming some of the fake fire of stones that look fake if cut with ideal diamond specs.
@@shawncharton9416 Seems you would find fault with whatever was shown.CZ is actually a very much underrated gem material and each type of material has its own strengths and weaknesses. To know each is to understand that "one size does not fit all."Meanwhile the facetter here has created a gem of great beauty that will outlive all of us.
hello, and where do you take diagrams for cutting?
hello, here are some sites: WWW.facetingdiagrams.org, facetingacademy.com/designs, www.gemologyproject.com/wiki/index.php?title= , this one can be hard to navigate www.rockhounds.com/

thank you very much for your answer
what is the model of this manometer? where to find this?🇧🇷

How many time to facet this stone ?
6 to 8 hours , but im a hobbyist, a professional would be much faster.
Dear sir what is the of your glue fixing tool's name please thanks .
I use epoxy glue and faceting wax to attach the stone.
@@tennpikr74 thanks sir
how much rate ths dmonds
This might sell for US $50.00
If I tried this I'd end up with nothing because there would always be one face that was not exactly the same and I'd keep trying to fix it.
Sometimes that almost happens to me. The solution is slow down , cut at a slow speed , look vewy closely at the stone, look often.
You said you were using epoxy to dop the stone, but I see black wax???
That was a stone where the epoxy failed on the initial dopping so on the 2nd try i used the wax . I dont know why it happened. Thanks for watching.
Price of this cut
I sold this one for about $75.00 USD
Stone's name plz
This is cubic zirconia, a synthetic gem material.

Yes, it takes hands on practice to be able to cut a stone.
Oi se escreva eu escrevi
that's not a gem its a man made imitation of a gem.Love the work though it must be great practicing on this cheap shit to then be good at the real thing hey
true but you must admit this stuff sure is pretty to look at.
50 years ago , a 1 carat synthetic diamond (strontium titanate ?) would cost us in the jewellery trade $200, they were softer & more brittle, slightly higher refractive index than diamond & CZ, but nowhere as good as CZ.The Chinese produce it cheaply ,as they do tools & every thing else these days ..consider yourself spoilt !
