The Silver Shamrock jingle has been stuck in my head for almost forty years, I've always considered this movie to be Halloween themed more than being associated with Michael Myers. I still occasionally watch this along with my other favourite John Carpenter movies.
I've always liked this movie and watch it every year around Halloween. I thought the concept of making the "Halloween" movies a yearly horror anthology series was interesting, but since the films didn't start that way, it figures audiences weren't into it. Who knows how it would have worked out anyway if the stories weren't good. Always loved the score of the film as well.
The only way that could have possibly worked is if they did it after the first one. The problem is that no one really wanted a big screen version of the Twilight Zone.
I remember watching this on ABC Saturday Night Movie. Even through there was no Micheal Myers, the bizarre story was interesting. Tom Adkins was awesome.
I feel like AMC has helped revitalize this movies reputation since they regularly played it with the other Halloween films and didn’t ignore it in any marathons
A personal favorite. I liked it even though it didn’t have continuity with previous films. I liked it for what it was. And it has a more creepy plot than the others.
I love Halloween 3. I think the idea of a new movie, with a halloween theme, as a series, is a great one. I wish they had ignored the haters and just continued on with it, Im sure there are gems that were never made, because people wanted to see a guy in a mask, for the 5th time.
One of my favourite movies. I always watch it on its own before getting into Myers. Literally every October that silver shamrock song is my ringtone for the whole month
Got the soundtrack on cd years back but I noticed they released an updated version with cleaner sound and esp some of the synth stuff is more prominent compared to the original. 👍
Movie is awesome! But they should have not named it Halloween, had it just been Season of the Witch I think it would have done better on it's own. In my opinion, movie still holds up and is pretty solid, and the score is pretty good as well. Too bad it did not do well initially, would have been cool to get anthology films regularly from Carpenter back then.
@@RichterPhallos nothing wrong with that, sometimes going back and rewatching when you get older changes your perspective 🤓👍 similar experience for me was blade runner, was hoping for han solo but got deckard. Now I'm more of a blade runner fan than Star wars lol.

"Halloween III: Season of the Witch" grew on me. Great score by John Carpenter and Alan Howarth. Love that crushing "Halloween Montage" with Tommy Lee Wallace. "Don't forget to wear your masks and don't forget about the big give away at 9, it's almost time."
Good movie, and I am glad the director and Carpenter did NOT change the ending. Atkins played that final scene to perfection...too bad for ALL those kids! 😀
Omg! You guys have outdone yourselves. Two of my favorite movies on the same day??? Thank you to both the JoBloHorror and OG JoBlo Originals for giving me Halloween 3 and Stand By Me. 😊
Loved how it focused on Samhain and the background of why Halloween is celebrated. Love the creepy premise of sacrificing children. Usually a big no no in movies. Cochran was a fabulous antagonist. Halloween I-III are by far my favorites, as John Carpenter had a hand in making them all (well if you don’t count him and his son doing the scores of the new ones) . I can do without the others.
I love the first two Halloween films, but 3 is my personal favorite just because of how creepy and weird it was. Super underrated and I'm glad it's getting the love and respect it deserves these days, if it didn't have the Halloween name attached I think it would have had a better reception
It's an amazing Halloween flick! Not talking anything away from Tommy Lee Wallece, all Carpenter fans should love it. It just oozes with that late 70s/early80 Carpenter X Debra Hill production vibe we all love so much. It's great
I don't care what anyone one thinks, I love this movie, and I consider it in the same universe, It has a very dark theme. Does it have some issues? Of course it does..so does every Halloween movie. I wish Carpenter Would of continued his original idea and gave us a different movie on something that took place on Halloween. Also It has an amazing soundtrack.
The only way it could possibly have worked was doing it after the first one. But the question is, did people want what would basically be a big screen version of the Twilight Zone?
@@ferox965mind you I never liked H2 so technically I've got a two part anthology lol the first film and H3 👍. Those are the only two films and the 2018 first film that I like. So win win lol
This was a genuinely creepy movie with a killer soundtrack. It is a shame the Halloween series was not an anthology as Carpenter would have preferred, but I am glad this film has gotten more appreciation as time has passed. I love the atmosphere of this film and the ambiguous ending is chilling. While we didn't get an actual Halloween anthology, John Carpenter's collective work could definitely be treated as a horror anthology. Prince of Darkness is another one that got overlooked but is quite creepy if you can buy into the premise.
I love the idea of Prince of Darkness, the explanation of mystic and supernatural via physics and science, which isn't too strange considering John was huge fan of Quatermass.
Still my favorite entry in the series. I saw it in the theater on the day it opened. However, having read about it in Fangoria magazine, I knew what to expect.
I saw this once as a kid & hated it, for the same reason everyone else did - no Michael Myers. Over the years I heard it wasn't that bad, & I did get around to trying it again sometime last year, & I rather enjoyed it. Its quite atmospheric & eerie. Its better than the Michael Myers junk that came afterwards.
I'm not much into horror because I hate being scared. Too much messed up '80s children's media did that. Season of the Witch is 1 of my select few horrors I enjoy. I would recommend El Orfanato, Monster House, The Woman in Black & The Black Cauldron. Those are great too. I consider El Orfanato to be a perfect film. It's a thriller/mystery story.
I used to watch Season Of The Witch with my mother. Had no idea at the time that there was any relation to another series of films. I can walk past people I'm related to and not realise any connection. Halloween and Season of The Witch are two distinct stories and I'd have loved to see what Halloween 4 (or 5) might have been if Michael Myers had been allowed to become it's own spin-off.
I tend to watch this movie every year. I also watch the 80s show werewolf every now and then. Still waiting on you guys to cover it. I know you guy won't let a fellow chicagoan down😃
My Favorite HALLOWEEN movie of all time. I thought the concept of a yearly anthology Halloween movie was great and this movie was ahead of its time. On it's own, this movie is great and to mix witchcraft and the computer age together was different but awesome. Glad to see that in recent years, HALLOWEEN III, has gotten the love and respect that it deserves
We saw this when it came out back in the 80's, not what we were expecting. Information pertaining to upcoming movies was nowhere near like it is today, to say we were let down would be an understatement when it comes to the previous Halloween movies. Over time though, the movie has endured and is unique in its approach, cheesy special effects even for back then, but the movie is typical Carpenter and worth a watch for anyone that has never seen it.
From Kentucky, US. Watched this when it aired on TV in 1979. My Mom loved scary movies and would watch anything scary that came on, and let me watch everything with her. I was born in 1974 so I was 5. I loved the window scene so much. Also the scene where the two men are hauling Barlow in that crate and the crate is inching forward to the cab. LOVED IT! It didn't give me nightmares but it excited me so much! Only vampire movie I consider scary.
This is one of those films that I absolutely love, and I’ll stand by that forever. I love it because it was so different and weird. For a long time I thought I was the only one who liked it.
Same, I'm glad there's a cult of weirdos that swim against the current, this film got bashed pretty hard, for years. Glad to see it getting some well deserved appreciation.
As much as I respect the original it's still a slasher movie. I love "Halloween 3" because it's so different and directly references the holiday. As a fan of the British "Quatermass" series I feel its influence on this dark tale that doesn't even spare the children. London Bridge is falling down (LOL).
I have grown to love this one over the years. It's a perfect little "private detective" type of film on a lazy saturday or sunday. I watch it every year when I get the chance.
Besides 1 and 2 this is my favorite horror movie. Because it sticks to what John originally said about the movies. Telling different tales within the framework of a theme. Great job ❤😂😂😂
Great video about a great film. I've always loved the movie. And the use of a narrator with that accent actually puts me in a mind to watch the flick again.
This movie is underrated. Is it as good as the original? Of course not. Very few movies are. It's got problems, granted. It's far from perfect. But it's a fun, enjoyable movie that is always good for an annual watch. The weirdness is part of the charm and I know that's not for everyone but there's real fun to be had if you have the right mindset. Of course you need to be in the mood for something weird and campy but if you are and you're looking for a fun little movie to watch on Halloween you could do so much worse. Don't dismiss it just because it's different. If you give it a fair shot I think there's a good chance you'll at least enjoy it
This was actually the first Halloween movie I ever watched. I was terrified of horror films as a kid so I didn’t watch none. I always knew who Michael myers was and when I was a teenager and this movie was on tv knowing nothing about it just seeing Halloween 3 I figured it would be a good time to see what Michael myers was about. I figured out pretty quick micheal wasn’t in it. But could not stop watching this movie. As I got older I would think of it every so often and wonder if I had just misremembered that this was a Halloween movie. Cause it was the only one not like the rest. I might be the only one who actually only like this movie in that whole franchise. This was a nice video lol. Sorry for the long rant I don’t usually comment. But this video really took me back 🙏🏽
Thank you! I think Halloween III is a worthy film for the season, and I'm glad viewers came to look at it as so. The premise terrifies me, and that jingle, well, it sticks with you.
Probably the most frighteningly realistic depiction of what Samhain (pronounced in the authentic Old Celtic style in the movie) is really about. 10:39 Only a child would hold a single-edge knife like that: "ice pick" grip technique w/sharp edge facing in instead of out. Movie people do that all the time, but Michael Myers might have been the first. And he first did it as a kid. It fits in that case because a kid wouldn't be expected to know that you should have the sharp edge facing out (or away from yourself) when using the "ice pick" technique with a single-edge blade. Skallagrim would back me up on all of this.
I remember seeing "HALLOWEEN III" opening weekend in high school. I saw "HALLOWEEN II" opening weekend the year prior and I thought this was going to be another Michael Myers movie. About 30 mins. in my friends and I started getting restless waiting for Michael and some in the audience were vocal about it. At the end of the movie, there was a loud collective groan. My friends and I disliked it and walked out disappointed. All we could talk about all weekend and in school on Monday was how much it sucked. But over the years I learned to appreciate the different path they were trying to take and enjoy it as a stand alone film and it's part of my blu-ray lineup every Halloween season. Plus it has a banger of a soundtrack by Carpenter and Howarth.
Got to say as a small Irish American my grandma from there told the Irish version of it to me while we made "spook Cakes" when I finally watched this it brought me back to a fond memory but frightening story. I'll always love 3!!
I never saw a Michael Myers movie until a few weeks ago. This was the Halloween movie I saw when I was a kid, and it always creeped me out. Especially when that kid died. This movie creeped me out so much that I never saw another Halloween movie again. 😂 Now I’m buying them all and binge watching them. Halloween III is better than I remember, but the robots were pretty silly.
I personally like Halloween 3 much more that the silly slasher flicks of 1& 2. Love the performance of the Dan O'Herley as Colonel Cochran. He's so....fine...with everything happening. His life and that of his employees mean nothing to him. There's an almost Lovecraftian flare about this man's faithful devotion to his Old Gods. Too bad the anthology idea never caught on. Imagine a new Carpenter flick every Halloween!
This was the first film I showed my brother when I started our "Horror Movies He Hasn't Seen" nights. To think in my youth, I ignored this movie in favor of the others because it didn't have Michael in it. Young me was too snobby. Halloween 3 100% did the Evil Cult thing better than 4/5/6 ever came close to. ☘Silver Shamrock Forever!☘
I was one of those crushed by Halloween 3 I felt like I got tricked Years later after some fairly bad Myers sequels I appreciated it for the stand alone movie it was It's a good original movie and I wish the anthology theme had happened
Love Halloween, caught H3 opening night and me and my buddy actually booed the film. Some years later it began to grow on me, and now it's one of my favorites. And not like Batman & Robin bad movie night. Nope, a great film with great performances and a few plot holes you can drive a truck through but hey, Tom Atkins.
I'm watching the Halloween saga for the first time and honestly the third movie kinda disappointed me, in the sense that i didn't know that there was no Micheal Myers, but when i understood that after 20 minutes or so, i honestly enjoyed the movie. It has such a nice Little Goosebumps vibe. nice variation
this actually brings a lot of insight that they tried do something new n were starting with 3 then move on to 4 n so on. only they probably shoulda started from 2, but i kinda get it now different stories different plots that are like Myers, but different n somewhat more sinister. i guess if they retried again today idk maybe it could work
I saw this at a sleepover when I was 11 It did the job It was only later when I realised it wasn't the same franchise That was 35 years ago but it still holds up because of the cast and the production team If only there were more Halloween based anthologies..
I loved part 3. IT was a good little break from the typical Halloween movie, which after only two Michael Myers appearances, made me itching for more. So not only was it a good story and a good movie, it made the next Michael Myers flick all that much better (even though the movie really sucked).
Halloween 3 is unironically one of the better films in the franchise. The absence of Myers never bothered me, it still has Carpenters touch, and very much feels like a Halloween movie. Shouldve kept it the anthology route.
The funny part is when you do get anti H3 fans they bleat on how badly it did at the box office yet fail to mention the worse performance at the box office is H5 which.... My god has Myers in it 😂
As a kid I was mad as hell that this movie didn’t have anything to do with Michael Myers even though it was name Halloween 3. 25 years later I finally watch it again and it was pretty damn good movie.
Halloween III is my favourite of the sequels. It feels way more Carpenter than the ones that followed. One thing that could have made it work better for audiences is if they made it the same world as the original film. Akin to how Stephen Kings stories are connected.

3 is my favorite Halloween movie!
Also; it's still so weird just how much this franchise connects to the cult-classic 'Last Starfighter'... =)
I was one of those crushed by Halloween 3
I felt like I got tricked
Years later after some fairly bad Myers sequels I appreciated it for the stand alone movie it was
It's a good original movie and I wish the anthology theme had happened
This was the first Halloween film I ever saw, and I was only 8 years old at the time. This movie freaked me out!
This movie fits perfectly with Strange Brew as a great Halloween double feature.
Halloween 3 is my favorite of the series.
Halloween III is definitely in the top 3 best Halloween movies ever made, which is high praise.
Cult Classic ❤, I first seen this movie as a kid in the 1980s and Always loved it, A Real Great Halloween Movie even Without Michael Myers
Bring on a 1978 Magic movie review! The same year Halloween came out.
Never seen it and now I am about to go watch it! Reminds me of They Live! OBEY! CONSUME!
this actually brings a lot of insight that they tried do something new n were starting with 3 then move on to 4 n so on. only they probably shoulda started from 2, but i kinda get it now different stories different plots that are like Myers, but different n somewhat more sinister. i guess if they retried again today idk maybe it could work
Brilliant film, and better than most of the Halloween films that followed it.
This was the first halloween I watched, with my friends. We were kids and we loved it! It really triggered our imagination.
It's a great movie. I think I've probably seen it more than I have the other Halloween movies.
I saw this at a sleepover when I was 11
It did the job
It was only later when I realised it wasn't the same franchise
That was 35 years ago but it still holds up because of the cast and the production team
If only there were more Halloween based anthologies..
I love the atmosphere of Halloween 3.
If Halloween had been billed as the first of many Halloween themed movies this one would've done so much better
this movie is a must watch on Halloween night
John Carpenter want's to make movies, tell stories, not franchises. He's an artist.
Such an underrated horror movie
The best in the series by far and the only movie in the series that pronounced Samhain properly.
I watch this every year, it's an amazing film with amazing atmosphere and a wicked soundtrack.
Halloween III is my favourite of the sequels. It feels way more Carpenter than the ones that followed. One thing that could have made it work better for audiences is if they made it the same world as the original film. Akin to how Stephen Kings stories are connected.
