The scene where Dr. Loomis gets picked up by the preacher & drives him to town while talking about cutting down damnation in all forms was my favorite scene in the movie.
Not gonna lie, the first time I saw the film, I was sort of hoping that the preacher would hear Loomis’s story about Micheal, and being so moved by it, would then sober up and help him take down the Shape. Would have been awesome!
Dr loomis screaming no when he saw Jamie at the end was so eerie and well done. that scene lasted with me for ages after I watched it, still does now. I felt so sorry for him, he was genuinely terrified and felt like he had failed Jamie.
This ending and how good H4 turned out to be, are what cemented Moustapha Akkad as a true talent and visionary of the Halloween series. Sure he made some stinkers too but H4 was his finest and showed how passionate he was for the series itself.
I see it getting a lot of hate nowadays for playing it safe but as long as it’s good, who cares.Still 10x better then several “innovative” sequels in this franchise
@BK Beatty I think that’s why John Carpenter is still so pissed the fuck off about Halloween II. He was forced to write the second one to avoid being sued…. when he wanted an anthology from the beginning.
I love the panning shot of the trick-or treaters toward the end of the montage in Halloween 3. The trick-or-treaters walk past the camera in silhouette, the sun setting behind them. The camera pans with them and stops on the city in the distance as darkness descends and the Silver Shamrock jingle fades out. It's such a haunting shot, clearly a metaphor for the looming threat that is about to descend upon every city in the country. Dean Cundey was such an incredible DP.
I feel like people overlook this one because it’s technically part of the “thorn trilogy”, but honestly you could just watch 1, 2, and 4 and it would be a satisfying trilogy in it of itself. I mean this one makes no mention of the thorn cult, it’s so easy to separate this from 5 and 6. Great sequel that too many people underrate because of the movies that followed.
I love Halloween 4. It truly is darker, colder, and authentically autumnal (like the director and screenwriter, I, too, am from Cleveland). It really is a movie of the season. I also like the mask - not more or in place of the original, but in the context of the film, as a something Michael shoplifts out of a store. When the town loses power, and even just before, the dark night with the streetlamps and moonlight reflecting off the even-more-featureless white mask really gave me the creeps when I first watched the movie, even in a way the original hadn't. I'm mixed on the ending. On one hand, it's cool, on the other, I would've preferred the franchise just end after the spectacular road chase and shootout. "Michael Myers is in hell, where he belongs." Indeed.
This is my second favorite Halloween movie, the introduction of Jamie and Rachel were great, both of them were super relatable. The dialogue were easily the best amongst the whole franchise. I love the community concensus of it all, everyone knows who Michael is, and they were ready to fight him off, instead of got killed in absolute oblivion like most of the other sequels. And of course, that mind blowing ending.
Halloween 4 is one of my favorite movies; a must watch every year. I've always loved the way it's told largely from a child's POV which enhances that Boogieman aspect of Michael Myers & also taps in to what the original film gave us with the characters of Tommy Doyle & Lindsey Wallace. As a child, your fears are always larger than life--an unstoppable force & to have that realized as a flesh & blood entity out to get you...this movie embodies that so well from beginning to end. A believable small town, brooding atmosphere that lingers throughout the film with genuine tension & scares. What more could you ask for?
Halloween 4 is my fav halloween movie .. and that opening montage is the BEST not only for halloween but IMO any film it is soo perfect for building up that creepy Midwest autumn feeling but at the same time makes me wish I could be in a place like that for autumn
This is by far the best sequel in the franchise. When Loomis and the others begin to take notice of the other "Michaels" in the background is a brilliant moment. I remember people in the theater freaking out at that scene back in the day.
Part 2 (81) is a much better movie than H4. It has suspense rivaling that of original. H4 is a pale, updated version of the original, without the atmosphere and suspense. With a silly looking shape to boot.
My favorite sequel. They NAILED the shape. You can say whatever about the mask(it's not a custom mask, he takes it off the shelf, it's believable) & what about how he moves?(he's been strapped to a bed for ten years, his muscles are a little stiff and his nerves were shot after burning alive)- it just fits, and is so eerie and menacing. He is calculating and ruthless shutting down the cities power and annihilating the police force. Halloween4 is a Top tier movie-and don't forget the ending, no matter how hard you fight evil it finds another shape and the little girl people died protecting just so happens to take his place to everyones dismay..the best endings in horror are the hopeless ones! (the thing, invasion of the body snatchers, halloween1978-breathing because he's still out there, etc.) Not to mention the ambiance with the purposeful use of orange headlights to coordinate with dark blue shadows, the smoke in the streets and all the scenes nobody talks about with the shape in the background shadows(look carefully!)
I agree his movements are realistic but damn though he looks like a freaking hunchback with physical deformities. The hockey pads they made Wilber wear (or whoever was the Shape) are just goofy looking
@@amancanbeavictimtoo7994 I just think he'd almost be slightly deformed after being strapped to a table for 10 years like an animal in a cage too small for too long
As long as they're retconing entire timelines in the franchise, they could start where 4 left off and bring back Rachel and Jamie-Lloyd in current times.
Thank you so much for uploading this! This was literally where my mind went immediately when I saw this movie. If they wanted to pass the torch to a new villain, then Danielle Harris could have gone under the mask. They pick up where the story left off back in 1988. And she was a beloved character the fans loved, it's why Halloween 6 is so controversial. And it would have been unexplored territory because a female is never the villain. And this was her daughter. Like you could easily do a trilogy off of Jamie Lloyd. And it gives you a few years until you reboot it and do something else. But this was Friday the 13th A New Beginning (1985). That's what they gave us, with a love story. Romance never happens in a horror film. And then the new villain dies in the end, so I don't get the whole point of this?? The main characters (Laurie and Michael) are hardly in the movie, they make this the Cory Cunningham Halloween (2022), and then the star dies, so we spent so much time on a dead end because... Why?
I love this one because everything about it feels like the Halloween holiday, I have it playing in the background on my TV all throughout October while I look at my phone or laptop
Ends had Myers and technically, so did Halloween 3. If you watch the bar scene close to the beginning of the film, the trailer of the original film was seen on the TV. Jamie Lee Curtis was also the voice of the operator on the phone and also the loudspeaker in the town, so she also had a cameo in the film.
I view H4 as a reboot in some ways, done right. You have new, very likable characters, a return to form with the reentry of the iconic villain, and a palpable respect for what came before.
Such a "palpable" respect that they bring back the guy who had BOTH of his eyeballs shot out, was blown up and completely ingulfed in flames. But somehow in a decade that normal guy grew back both eyes, got his vision back and his burns were limited to tiny scars on his hands and Loomis had constantly changing makeup on his face.
I've seen this movie more than almost any other movie in my life ever since a week before the date in the movie October 31st 1988. I was just 8 years old and it was the greatest time for horror movies. This remains still to this day one of my favorites and greatest movie experiences ever.

The final minutes of this video garnered some more appreciation for the movie out of me. I like how the reasons are listed off for why things happened and what those actions led to. When watching the movie it’s easy to ignore what’s going on in relation to what will happen. Reminds me of how in video games a mission has objectives that have real consequences in the story but in the moment you don’t really have awareness to it, you’re just completing a mission.
This was a great addition to the series. It definitely should gone forth with Jaime at the end of the flick. This, showing that the trauma and madness passes on to her and she will assume the mantle.
I love H4! To date it has the smartest horror characters, the cops actually listen to Loomis and end up calling the national guard once they realize Michael is too much to handle
My favorite scene is Halloween 5 when Michael steals a casket of a 9 year old. Dr Loomis asked Jaime, what do think he's going to do with that. Classic
I'll never get over just how ridiculous the shape looks in this movie. The puffy padded suit and that HORRIBLE mask.. but 4 is still one of my all time favorites
Great content sir..your channel always has super interesting videos..I'm sure everyone here agrees that the history of the horror genre is just fascinating and you deliver..thanks for all the hard work..
This really did turn out to be a great film. I think part 2 is my favorite so I always found it weird he came back as we watched his head burn to ash at the end of 2 but if it makes another fun movie. Why not. I'd love a sequel to Season of the Witch now.
This is a great looking sequel. Well shot. And a good story. I just could never get past Michael’s look. The mask is too “alien” looking to me. The original Mask had a certain look that I feel they recaptured well with the newest films. And the Shape’s body type looks too “Frankenstein” to me. There was something natural yet sinister about the original Shape that the sequels could never quite capture. James Jude Courtney has done the best job as the Shape since Nick Castle in the original.
Halloween 3 was dope! People don't know what they were missing with the potential of an anthology. Would of been so cool to see the potential stories told.
@@NickNutjob Michael could still have come back had they done that. 2 would be the Fog. 3 would be season of the witch. 4 would be The Return Of Michael Myers.
Definitely one of my favorite Halloween sequels. Loomis was incredible & I love the Jamie & Rachel chemistry. Wish they'd stuck with this ending & turned Jamie into the focus of part 5. You still could have involved Michael in a smaller role but passed the torch.
OMGoodness. The mask does look like Data from ST:TNG. I've been telling people that the mask looks like the face of an annoyed parent who can't get their kid to go to sleep. "CHILD! IF YOU DON'T GET IN THAT BED!"
@@6oclocknewsat8 Star Trek TNG just started and every time I saw Myers I saw Data. Years later, Star Trek did a scene where Data actually acted like Michael Myers. ruclips.net/video/H8NRMP16Dzs/видео.html
The many more times after the original Halloween continuity and Rob Zombie Halloween movies aren't. At least up until Halloween Kills ends. You still see some supernatural parts in Michael when he butchers the firefighters with weapons that they oddly brought. Like they were ready for a fight. Then the end when he survived the mobs brutal beat down in an attempt to kill him.
Halloween 4 wasn't a killer like the OG Halloween movies because it was competing with the Jason and Freddy movies in the late 80s. It stuck out like a sore thumb, but it's a guilty pleasure.
Great video as always! However, one error: at around 08:31, the narrator mentions Moustapha Akkad working with Anthony Quinn in LION OF THE DESERT (1980). However, the image shown in this video is of their previous collaboration in 1976's THE MESSAGE. You might want to find an appropriate image from the latter film and repost...
The fact that frigging Bobby Brady was greenkeeper on H4 BLOWS MY MIND THIS I Y I LOVE JO BLOW HORROR!!! GOTTDAMN THATS COOL I WANT TO REVISIT THIS MOVIE
To Halloween 3 ties in perfectly for me As in Halloween the first film you will see Michael as a kid wearing exactly one of the masks what was being made in Halloween 3
I’m a new sub and you probably get this all the time but I hear a little Norm Mc Donald in your voice. Love the video btw. Keep up the great content! 🎃
Halloween 4 is my personal favorite because it shows that evil never dies it comes in all forms and shapes. Halloween 1978 Halloween 2 1981 Halloween 4 1988 The perfect Trilogy that brings The Story of The Shape Full Circle. I Wrote a sequel to Halloween 4 called Halloween The Stigma Of Michael Meyers where Jamie Meyers awakens from a 30 year coma and takes on the stigma of Her uncle she possesses unusual strength and no pain and her wounds can heal instantly by some weird genetic blood growth. I want this Meyers to be different she not only Dawns the mask but she stitches it to her face. Who would like to play Jamie Meyers. Also in tribute to John Carpenter the holiday of Halloween is banned in Hadonfield it is against the law to dress up hang Halloween decorations go tricker treating and to have Halloween parties this was his original treatment for Halloween 4. Also she stitches the mask on her face and cuts her hair short she can all also run and is more athletic and agile than her uncle. This movie would ignore Halloween 5-8 but it will reuses a few plot points like people starting there own Michael Meyers club who the cops are hunting and she goes after Tommy, Lindsay and her step sister Rachel I of course would be playing Rachel’s husband a cop who has to live in the hard law labors of hadonfield and hunt for the new Michael Meyers. Well this is my movie pitch next year I’m making it happpen. But first I got to find a girl with short hair not a easy task.
I just can't accept the first explanation of his return. That's the same plot as A nightmare on Elm St. I like the revised ideas. Keep it silly and keep it fun.
Danielle harris has already started pitching ideas for after Halloween ends to bring Jamie back i thi k it should happen. Her story deserves a true sequel to h4 and end it with that direct sequel instead of a trilogy that won't end well. Like kills and ends mostly ends
John Carpenter may have hated the twist of Laurie being Michael's younger sister but I loved it , it gave a reason why Michael still was trying to kill her , it never made sence it was just a random thing for him to do with that type mind set...Michael would just find new people to kill there had to be a reason him chaseing Laurie beyond she just escaped him and it pissed him off. I mean Jason killed people cause his mom was killed.....Freddy killed the Elm street kids as revenge for their parents killing him. for Michael there had to be a reason for him stalking Laurie her being his younger Sister was that reason
How a movie could have a $5 million budget and not be able to adequately reproduce the mask or appearance of the main character (without hockey pads) is one of the great mysteries of cinema.

The sunset trick or treaters in H3 and the opening of H4 are visually the most beautiful in any horror movie. Ever. Just perfect ❤

That opening is so eerie, calm, and great foreshadowing to Michael's return. What a great new movie to be excited about after Part III. Perfect.
I love H4! To date it has the smartest horror characters, the cops actually listen to Loomis and end up calling the national guard once they realize Michael is too much to handle
Fun Fact the niece is the woman who plays the antagonist in the Hatchett series
Why is it a fun fact that danielle Harris has played other roles ?
My favorite scene is Halloween 5 when Michael steals a casket of a 9 year old. Dr Loomis asked Jaime, what do think he's going to do with that. Classic
Awesome video! Makes me appreciate this movie ten times more. Definitely needs a rewatch.
Thank you!
I'll never get over just how ridiculous the shape looks in this movie. The puffy padded suit and that HORRIBLE mask.. but 4 is still one of my all time favorites
Love the work you do! Keep it up!
Great content sir..your channel always has super interesting videos..I'm sure everyone here agrees that the history of the horror genre is just fascinating and you deliver..thanks for all the hard work..
Loving all the Halloween content this time of year. I also dropped my Halloween 4 review this week. Keep up the work man very inspiring
This was my first ever experience of the Halloween franchise
Ohhhhhh the good times
Still hoping for a WTF Happened To This Horror Movie episode for the original Child's Play and a Black Sheep episode for Cult Of Chucky
All of these movies are just a season mandatory watch. The Timeless effect they've had on its audience even the horrible films are still classic
Easily one of the best sequels in the series!
This really did turn out to be a great film. I think part 2 is my favorite so I always found it weird he came back as we watched his head burn to ash at the end of 2 but if it makes another fun movie. Why not. I'd love a sequel to Season of the Witch now.
2, 3 and 1 are my top 3
Listening to this without watching it with my eyes and it keeps sounding like you’re explaining the plot for the first reboot movie.
This is a great looking sequel. Well shot. And a good story. I just could never get past Michael’s look. The mask is too “alien” looking to me. The original
Mask had a certain look that I feel they recaptured well with the newest films. And the Shape’s body type looks too “Frankenstein” to me. There was something natural yet sinister about the original Shape that the sequels could never quite capture. James Jude Courtney has done the best job as the Shape since Nick Castle in the original.
Halloween 4 and 5 was awesome. Loved those films even if they get hated on. Still better than Halloween ends
@Mariana D'Amelio glad I’m not the only one lol
@Mariana D'Amelio h20 had a better conclusion than ends
You think Halloween 5 is better than Ends? Really?
@@BareBandSubscription yes
@@Zero-xl2ef
Can’t get with you on that, chief. Halloween 5 is pure turd.
Halloween 3 was dope! People don't know what they were missing with the potential of an anthology. Would of been so cool to see the potential stories told.
100% agree!
Their biggest mistake was bringing Michael back. The Fog should’ve been Halloween II
@@NickNutjob Michael could still have come back had they done that. 2 would be the Fog. 3 would be season of the witch. 4 would be The Return Of Michael Myers.
Agreed, it's a perfect Halloween movie.
@@NickNutjob The Fog set on Halloween would have been sweet.
Still the best sequel after all these years. While the original is the best in suspense and atmosphere, I think H4 has the best characters.
This was the best sequel in the franchise after Halloween 2
Definitely one of my favorite Halloween sequels. Loomis was incredible & I love the Jamie & Rachel chemistry. Wish they'd stuck with this ending & turned Jamie into the focus of part 5. You still could have involved Michael in a smaller role but passed the torch.
I know George Wilbur who play Michael Myers in Halloween 🎃 4 he is my uncle and it's the truth. 😀👍🎃
The mask and Wilbur's build really hurt Halloween 4. The mask looked like Data from Star Trek. And that series had just started.
I really love this sequel, it did so many things right. And That opening was great.
The background music is too loud and distracting.
Damn good sequel considering John Carpenter and Debra Hill weren't involved; but the mask.....THAT MASK IS FREAKING RIDICULOUS !!!
Yet on the poster it didnt match what was in the movie
Halloween 2 is my favorite sequel, taking it to an enclosed hospital on the same exact night was beautiful to me
My favorite non-JLC Halloween movie. I watch it every year.
The fact that frigging Bobby Brady was greenkeeper on H4 BLOWS MY MIND
THIS I Y I LOVE JO BLOW HORROR!!!
GOTTDAMN THATS COOL
I WANT TO REVISIT THIS MOVIE
Do a wtf happen to Halloween ends.
It literally just came out, chill
John Carpenter should have explained how Myers was able to come back alive over and over. What made little Myers want to kill his sister.
To Halloween 3 ties in perfectly for me
As in Halloween the first film you will see Michael as a kid wearing exactly one of the masks what was being made in Halloween 3
Aside from "season of the witch", this is my favourite sequel. I love H2, but H4 has always been preferred.
H5 was a disappointment but isn't too bad.
I would love to see them make a Halloween movie where they depict Michael Myers as an anti-hero.
The more I go back and watch 4 the more I appreciate it. Unfortunately 5 then made a mess of all of it.
I’m a new sub and you probably get this all the time but I hear a little Norm Mc Donald in your voice. Love the video btw. Keep up the great content! 🎃
This is Thee best movie in the franchise. I literally seen H4 hundreds of times. Just watched it this morning!
I enjoy Halloween 4 especially that ending.
Easily the best of the sequels imho.
Halloween 4 is a great, great movie!!!
Great Insight on a great sequel very well done I love this video
Most people who don't ' like ' part 4 are whining and wetting their diapers over how his mask looks....
Amazing sequel I’d say!!! Really in its own lane very well done
The brother/sister angle was great. They should have just did H5 the way they were going to originally with Jamie becoming the new Michael
Shit, Earl. It's Ted Hollister.
Halloween 4 is my personal favorite because it shows that evil never dies it comes in all forms and shapes.
Halloween 1978
Halloween 2 1981
Halloween 4 1988
The perfect Trilogy that brings The Story of The Shape Full Circle.
@10:12 "although she shouldn't know what her uncle looked like while he was wearing a mask and carrying a knife" -Norm McDonald
I wonder if we’ll ever get another Halloween entry as good as 4. Maybe once ends blows over, we can get a Jamie story. Hell, I’d take Jamie over John!
Good as 4 ? This movie has so many flawed plot points lol
@@MR.__G Tis subjective, isn’t it?
@@GoreGeekScene I guess
Danielle harris has already started pitching ideas for after Halloween ends to bring Jamie back i thi k it should happen. Her story deserves a true sequel to h4 and end it with that direct sequel instead of a trilogy that won't end well. Like kills and ends mostly ends
Part 4 is a great movie. It could very well be the best in the franchise. I personally have Halloween 2 and then Halloween 4.
2nd best sequel in the series for me. Halloween 2 is still the gold standard!
Absolutely ✔.
HALLOWEEN 1.
HALLOWEEN 2.
HALLOWEEN 4.
HALLOWEEN 7. H20
HALLOWEEN 5.
JC came up with the twist
An unusual speech pace and inflection here, half sentence at a time
Halloween 2 ( 1981) is my favorite one and the most scariest of them.
My favorite Halloween as a kid.
Great video. Was very easy to follow and understand. Subscribing now and going to watch the other videos you have.
Hey Jo blo great video dude, what's the background music in the last 2 minutes of the video please dude?
WOW I didn't know Mike Lookinland (Bobby Brady) was in charge of all the halloween decorations and leaves in Halloween 4
How a movie could have a $5 million budget and not be able to adequately reproduce the mask or appearance of the main character (without hockey pads) is one of the great mysteries of cinema.
