i like the review and it was refreshing to see you give it some negatives. Going to pick up the Helix 5 as i do lots of moving around so i want the small size. Cheers
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens ruclips.net/user/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
I hear you on the LI battery and screen cover. I'm sure their justification for not having a cover is the unit is in the soft case. They do make a winter "kit" for summer units that has the transducer and bag together, perhaps a summer "kit" or all season version would be nice to see? Good review Dude!
on my Helix 5 GPS g2 I notice when you turn the screen brightness down simply by pressing the power on button quickly scrolling down to the brightness option he will see that the battery meter will go up in percentage but honestly if you use this at three-quarters of total brightness I feel that it lasts much longer and is still plenty bright. For those of you now turning your boat units into ice units do the update using a MicroSD card it definitely made some differences on my three-year-old Helix 5 GPS g2 chirp unit.there is even a screen that will help you charge your lighted glow-in-the-dark jigs know it's not as good as a charging LED cop but it's still a neat feature
Bought the Helix 7 Gn3 ALL-SEASON, works in the boat comes with transducer for the boat & boat mount gimbal and the entire ice package seen here. I purchased a rubber screen protector for $20 and I agree with the lithium battery upgrade it will make a world of weight difference but the last thing we need is these locator manufacturers throwing a $100 battery in their units and taxing us $150 making it more for the consumer. Not sure where you got the $1000 price tag on these units I got the ALL-SEASON for $629 and it’s great in the boat and has Minn-Kota I-pilot feature with some Ethernet wires makes open water fishing and trolling effortless. I give the all season unit a 9.5/10 yes the ice ducer holder is sloppy. Case is top of the line and add a $20 cover and it’s probably one of the best locators for ice fishing on the market.
CANADA EHH ......SHIT IS MORE EXPENSIVE WHEN USING CANADA COINS ....LOL.....CANADIAN MONEY AINT WORTH AS MUCH AS U.S. MONEY SO THEY HAVE TO GIVE MORE FOR THE SAME UNIT.......
Nice! It is really cool that you can be honest. Much appreciated. The target separation is impressive. I have an antique Hummingbird. Back in the day, my Dad loved it 🤩 The interview I did with you is on my channel. Thank you for doing that 🙂. See you on the ice!
Watch it bouncing around in sled. My friends wouldn’t work when we got out on the ice. Picked it up and shook it shit was rattling around in side of it. Took 6 months for replacement
The circumference/diameter of what you can see under the transducer is a factor of the cone angle AND how deep the water is. Does the number on the unit (below and to the right of the cone angle) change as the aforementioned factors change? Do you really NEED a cover when the head unit is already inside a case?
Love the review! I couldn't agree more, lead acid battery isn't ideal for the unit. Lithium should be a standard by now. Its gonna be great to watch you crush some lakers on that thing! By the way what oakleys are those? The lenses look great!
Regarding the gimbal - The G2N comes with a gimbal bracket, a power cable, and an open water transducer so you can mount it on a boat. The model you have is the G2, which is a few buck less and intend as an ice only unit, so don't give it a thumbs down because you bought the wrong one. The lack of a screen cover? Why would you want another cover inside of a cover? One more thing to keep track of and remove time after time imo. A Li battery would be nice, but would add $100 to the price of the unit, so I don't fault Humminbird for that either. The standard battery easily takes me through a 10 hour day. I did replace it with a Li one though. Like you said - for the weight savings. Despite my disagreement on a couple things - good review!
Cover is a must and a better transducer is a must. If you use an atv or a sled. The transport case isn’t protection for the screen the zipper are laying on the screen so your argument is invalid. Not everyone needs a transducer. Send the mount anyone who buys this unit will add it to their boat
I have the same unit, pulled the unit from my boat in the summer and purchased the ice bag kit. Thanks for the review! I’ll definitely be looking into securing the transducer better as i travel by sled as well. I ordered a silicone cover like the 9’s and up come with, little pricey but wanted the protection in the boat too.
Where did you get the battery at? Also I just ordered the ice combo that comes with both transducers, and I bought a cover and mount so I can mount it to my john boat in the summer.
Yours didn't come with a boat mount? Is yours a gen 2 Helix 5 (or 7) All Season? I just purchased this and it came with a boat mount (and an ice fishing case).
Seb, your transducer WILL stay seated in place.... I thought same as you but so long as your cover is down and cable tucked in, it should be good to go! Great review, very interested in our opinion later in the year....
Personally I don't understand giving thumb's down for it not having items that you knew it didn't when you bought it. Obviously you would like it to have a screen and a extra gimball for boat use but what about us that have no need for it, do we need to pay for options that we will never use? Yes the transducer storage could be better but a 99cent beer coozie will solve that issue same as it did on my Ice 35. The item's you specified are all available from H bird. Adding a 9amp hr lithium is going to add at least 75 bucks to the cost, I pack a 18 amp hr lithium in my power box that I can slave it to if I ever need it. Ya'll need to get real, no company can please everyone all the time and I don't want to pay for shit I will never use.
Nice unit...I have the LX7 and love the dual screen capabilities..upgraded with a lithium battery...big downside with the marcum unit is the horrible ergonomics of trying to pick it up and hole hop...case sucks...like the time displays and streamlined design with good center of gravity for hole hoping...might sell LX7 and buy this
The reason why it didn't come with a mount for your boat is because you got the ice version, if you get an all season helix 7 it comes with everything for ice fishing and summer fishing
@@SeabassOutdoors I respectfully disagree with you. As wyatt said, they make an all season version, which you could have bought if you wanted it for both ice and open water fishing. The nice part about having both options is that you save money by not paying for the extra open water features if you only wanted it for ice fishing.
As I do agree with the transducer holder issue, I do not agree with the lack of a cover issue. To me the bag is ample protection for the unit, the cover is just 1 more thing to either be in your way, or something else to lose. Now that being said, if you bought the all season unit, then YES a cover should be included, the soft neoprene cover is only like $13.00.
I agree with the lithium battery, but in hummingbird defense to keep consumer costs down to lure in new customers and compete in the market, the standard battery won’t be a deal breaker. I look at is as buying a base truck then throw on aftermarket tires, light bar, ect.
Hey Sebastian, love the channel. What I did for my cheapy ice 35 ducer was use a piece of towel cut square to fit into the ducer holder. Don't use a paper towel (to thin) and don't use a bath towel (to thick)..something in between that the ducer can sorta be pressed into the holder part. Keeps it from getting scratched up as well. I'd like to know if you try this. Keep up the good work. -Pidge
If I have a Helix 10 MSI G2N, would it still be worth it to buy the Ice Helix 7 G3N, or would I be better off to save the money and just diy a shuttle and buy Lithium Battery and ICE ducer and roll that way?
@@Tyler-zw4kq nice man, I see now what you mean! Can’t go wrong with that setup. Yes the 5 is nice and works as is, but I like video gaming in my Shack on Ice with Crappy and Perch 🤣🤣🙌🙌 So the 7 and 10 work better for having the units further away, sharing screen etc

I agree with you. I own the humminbird helix 7 ice G2N for 2 seasons now. I use it on my boat during the summer. My main complaint was the battery life, battery life is terrible. I carry another battery as a spare for long trips. However what you didn’t mention that’s a huge plus on humminbirds part are the yearly updates that usually release every season around September. Check hummingbirds website for the downloads. The fact they continue to update the units yearly via software is a huge plus for humminbird
Stormy Outdoors I just bought this unit this year and love it. The battery life is the only knock I have on it. Can you give me an example of how the lithium battery helped. Mainly, Total fish time on a full charge!
Of course it didn't come with a second mount for a boat. It's an ice unit....duhh. Including that would only increase the base price and not benefit anyone that didnt need it for a boat as well.

Great review what do u use to get rid of your water spots
50/50 water and vinegar

How is it fishing deep water?? Like 30-70 feet does it have zoom?
