Just got my Helix 8 today. I just moved to Alaska and my buddy asked me if I could get an ice transducer for it so here I am, being pleasantly surprised that my 6 month fish finder just because a 10 month fish finder. Great video!
Like anything, you gotta take it out & mess with it. You can always go to a factory reset if you get in to deep in the weeds. They are a great unit & easy once you get familiar with it. deep
I have a battery charger but do I need one with the smaller alligator clips? The one I use now I have used to charge my boat batteries. If mine isn't right for it can you suggest one that is while saving money at the same time? Appreciate ya! Great video and have it saved so I can go back once I get all the parts for my build.
I honestly don’t know enough about chargers to know if you can use the bigger chargers designed for boat batteries. I use a Amped outdoors charger that was around $20. Mine can charge both SLA and lithium batteries.
I took my helix 10 off my boat. I'm working on getting it ready for ice. Just waiting for the transducer to come in and going to get a lithium battery for it today.
@@precisionanglingYT will do. If I can't find an 18ah maybe something a little bigger. If our lakes ever freeze you should come down to southern maine. I have a few places you would like.
Do you have a video or any more details on how you made your kit out of the milk crate? I'm considering going that route since I already have extra batteries and all I would have to buy is the transducer opposed to paying $300 for an entire kit.
@@precisionanglingYT I’m going back and forth between the 5 and 7 is the 7 really worth the extra $400? I will most likely only be using it for ice fishing. Also my wife and I fish together and had a problem with my vexlar only picking up one jig. Will this pick up both jigs? Thanks
Both the 5 and 7 will pick up both jigs. The target separation is awesome. I like the 7 compared to the 5. I run split screen so it helps a lot. I think it’s worth the extra. If your just running it as an ice unit, the 2d only model looks to be $200 extra more than the 5 at cabelas. You don’t need the DI and SI feature for ice seasons.
I'm going to buy a new fish. It will be used exclusively for ice fishing shallow lakes. It will be a helix 5 g3 chirp. Is there any advantage to having DI or SI. Cheaper without them.
You won't need either the SI or DI if you're just using for ice fishing. Them are different open water modes and features. All you need for ice is the main unit. The one with GPS is a handy benefit, and worth the extra few $.
Did it swap to ice mode?? If so, your good. If not…I’m not sure. I’d try to run through the steps again. If I remember right, it was right arrow twice after prompts.
Did he just take a normal milk crate and cut it or what the heck is going on there? I love it, much rather do that then spend 200+ on the humminbird shuttle
Yes. That’s basically what I did. 6$ crate from Home Depot. Here’s the link to the build video $10 DIY Milk Crate Ice Flasher Shuttle + How I Rig My Humminbird Helix 7. ruclips.net/video/n5ZcM9xeiM0/видео.html

They're awesome machines!! Rarely I leave home without it!!!
WOW awesome explanation. do you prefer hummingbird or Garmin?
Both are good units..but I prefer Humminbird
So true about that lake hahahah awesome vid! I got a helix 7 ice for this year I’m excited to try it! Hopefully we get better ice this year!
You’ll love the Helix 7. Mine is still going strong. Ice is looking to be a little better so far this year. Good luck out there
@ you too stay safe!
Thank you for the help …….Great Video, was having a tuff time with just unit manual. Your explanation is much appreciated . Thank You.
Glad you’re up and running!!
Great explanation for the Hummingbird fish finder. Nice unit you got there.
I don't leave home without it
Great video. I just got the conversion kit for my Helix 7 and your video was excellent info. Thanks for taking the time too put it out there.
Glad it help you!! Enjoy!!
Phenomenal video man!! Thanks a ton for the taking the time to make it and the detailed explanation!
Your welcome!!
Awesome video , to the point. Feel confident going out today and getting her dialed in
Good luck!! They’re great units
Oh man good old hummin bird. I use to love em but I’m in the live scope game now great fish finders. Nice explaining
I’ve looked at them! Thought about getting one, but the helix does so well I have a hard time moving away from it
@@precisionanglingYT it’s $3,000 for a live scope id have a hard time too lol
Good video. Like how you went thru each and best options. Someday I can see me running a hummingbird.
They are amazing units. Very powerful. I didn’t even get into the lake mapping options, which are a huge benefit. Well worth the investment

You’ll love it!! I’d got 18ah for the 10” screen. My Amped had been awesome

@@precisionanglingYT awesome thanks. The tough thing right now is it’s impossible to find a transducer in stock.
I mainly fish perch and just use tiny teardrop jigs. I’m wondering how well it will pick up the tiny jigs in deep water. Mainly fish 20-40 feet
It will pick up tear drops fine!! Not problem!

Great video! I have a Helix 7 and would love to get it out fitted for ice fishing! Ice ducers all seem to be backordered.
Unfortunately they’re out of stock everywhere!! When they’re in, I’d definitely snag one!
They are back! Just got one two days ago.
Awesome video
Thanks.
Nice rig you got there

What pound braid would you recommend for walleye
We don't have walleye here in Maine. But if we did, Id use 8 or 10 lb flouro.
Finally my answers have been answered
Glad they've been anwsered
This is the first demonstration out on a lake being used!! instead of being on a dining room table!! Thanks again!!
I hear ya. I was a season late setting mine up. It was intimidating at first. I pretty much learned as I went!!
Good info friend
Thanks
When I went to set my helix 7 to ice mode it never said it would restart?
Did it swap to ice mode?? If so, your good. If not…I’m not sure. I’d try to run through the steps again. If I remember right, it was right arrow twice after prompts.
I can't seem to figure out why mine won't show bottom over like 20 foot and the jig disappears past 20 and even with the gain turned all the way up
Try adjusting your bottom depth range. It’s in the settings.
@precisionanglingYT yep I've been changing the depth but still won't show the bottom but in the circle it shows how deep it is
Weird. Only time mine won’t is if I’m deeper than what my bottom is set at
Have you tried updating the unit?? I had a similar power problem and updating fixed it!!
@precisionanglingYT I'll have to try and figure out how to update it thanks
how do you make your caddy
Heres the link to the video of how I made it.
