    This video is... idk what it is exactly but it's sort of like a rant i guess? I also give suggestions on how to fix hitboxes tho so I don't think it classifies as a rant either...

    you know...the sad part is that objects and loops have better hitboxes then survivors , legit you can shoot almost trough every hole and texture and they have really good hitboxes

      Newer ones that is. Go into azarovs or mcmillan as huntress and you'll 4k all the invisible walls on the map while trying ordinary for other maps stuff.
      Edit: I just resumed the video and the next thing he shows is exactly that, huntress hitting wraith on mother's dwelling, oh well...

      It's way easier to make map hitboxes accurate vs player hitboxes because player hitboxes are client sided while map hitboxes are server sided

    Im seeing very often "small" channels that are talking about the inner problems of the game and speaking facts. Good to see not only big streamers pov of the game.

    Incredible how you can throw hatchets and shoot harpoons with the death slinger through the tiniest gaps and hit, but one small piece of grass is enough to stop an entire chainsaw sweep

      probably because hitboxes are a very slippery subject, either there how they are right now, or you can't hit the survivors at all

      @@ohenthevoidwatcher3939 If a shitty dev Is the one handling it yeah. But other games have proven you absolutely can have great hitboxes. Some so good it makes those "a sword just barely missed my character by a pixel" butt clenching moments where you just barely dodge something.
      Up to BHVR to prove us right or wrong on them being up to the task.

    Finally someone makes a video about this. It's literally my main argument about DBD. I get hit through all kinds of objects and even when im no where near the Killers attack.

      Same about people spinning out their hurtboxes that makes aim-dressing fuck up an attack, leading to advantage out of thin air at any moment. And it's sad to see people defending this bullshit just because it's been in the game for a long time/a lot of people use it, which is a common problem outside of the game too, when something fucked up been around for so long that it becomes "normal" and nobody seems to know why this is normal when asked, but would defend it nevertheless. When a person runs i expect his turns to be either forward-left arc or forward-right arc, not "mid forward run sudden reverse of momentum into a backwards side arc around the killer that leads to attack phasing trough the model because the hurtbox physically didn't catch up to what you see", that just takes away from overall experience as well as sometimes rob you away from a guranteed-otherwise hit, and so many of these been the miracle misses right before adren would activate... yeah, this exploit is better be gone soon.

      Not really. You can have very good ping and still get hit through or over things depending on the killer you're versing of course. It's only sometimes a latency problem.@@icy_demons_

      ​@@icy_demons_the point of this video still stands. Even in a PERFECT LAG FREE ZERO PING environment the hitboxes are STILL bad and the survivor model does not accurately show where they are if they are doing LITERALLY ANYTHING besides standing perfectly still and healthy

    I am an unreal engine developer, and the way it works is that the capsule is the root component, while the mesh (character model) is a secondary child component, all games actually have this problem, because in unreal engine you cannot make a character with a different hitbox. You can only use the capsule unless you use a very expensive plugin or if you make everything more difficult for yourself by using a pawn instead of a character (Which is a different class with many less features compared to the character class). This is especially noticeable when you make games with quadruped creatures, since the hitbox is a capsule that you can at most turn into a sphere and that you cannot make horizontal. In games like ark you can see the head of dinos clipping through the buildings because their real collision is that capsule.
    Now, there are ways to use the mesh (character model) As the detector for hits, but behavior is probably using a different way to check for hits.
    And the reason why environment collisions are better is because STATIC meshes or models have a different collision method compared to skeletal meshes which are animated characters.
    Overall I think its a UE problem more than a DBD problem, they should make characters more flexible for developers to use

      Doesn't fortnite have character accurate hitboxes? That's on unreal engine.
      And I'm pretty sure many other games on the unreal engine do too.
      BHVR made their game on a foundation of spaghetti code so it's obvious they were not that skilled when making DBD.

      @@thedoomslayer5863 I'm not sure about Fortnite, since they have many skins that could give players a competitive advantage/disadvantage. However shooter games (usually) use linetraces for hits which can work with the character model and disregard the capsule. I'm sure there are many ways to make collision work with the character though, but they may be quite complex to do or simply take too much effort to do now that they have everything already done since chances are that they would need to rewrite lot of code to make it work so I doubt they will do anything about it

    It's honestly insane how inconsistent hitboxes are. I have a video where I missed a Xenomorph tail whip. Ada was setting up a turret as I threw the tail so I guess she was considered to be crouching or something. Visually, the tail hit *slightly* above her, like, shaving the skin off her back kinda close, so it was definitely well within the wide berth DBD usually gives its hitboxes. What's more, is that you could see the trailing effect of the tail go through her as she stood up, so I know that's where the tail hit's box was.

      The general consensus is to aim not at the survivor body, but at their butt, since it's the closest part to the real hitbox. Most likely you were shooting at the animation, which doesn't update collision at all

      i just think xeno needs an update to the tail animation, its really funky, funkier than other killers. its weird cause it has a incredebly strong ability but with the wonkiest looking animation from both sides.

    I never really thought about this, but this is one of the reasons as to why DBD might not be very enjoyable anymore. Tons of projectile killers with inconsistent/unfair hitboxes.

    Those hits over vaults were too real. In a game with two sides, you always want to feel like the game/system is treating you both fairly in order to have a balanced match; and the disconnect between hits, especially over vaults, effects how you view the integrity of the game itself. It's just a bad look all around. Bringing in great IP's doesn't make people stick around if it feels poorly made and unfair.

      exactly. I would never play this alone as survivor in my life just cuz it's so much less tolerable without at least 1 friend to help your matches when it feels like the game decides you go down when it decides

    Tbh on the huntress hit boxes her hatchets are VERY easy to land, the skill part comes from sniping survivors from across the map and of course long distance hatchets in general which are hard to do but from medium range and below her soccer ball hatchets are crazy easy to land either that or I’m just really good at huntress

    Im glad that someone actually talked about Hitboxes in video form. It's really the center of a lot of terrible hits on survivor and when you add ping into the mix, it becomes so much of a gamble

      Not just for survivor it feels bad on BOTH SIDES. killers miss hits they should've gotten and survivors get hit by hits that shouldn't have connected

    Great video. I think the hitboxes need to be changed as you said but there is an better way to resolve fast vaults imo. Enable hit validation on window vaults: Both killer and survivor systems should check if they believe a hit should have connected on respective ping. If there is a disagreement between systems, the lower ping player gets the outcome. There is already precedent for this too with pallet stuns!

      there is no pallet stun validation, they did it for a bit then removed it, if it's still there you would still see people get hit through pallet stun then the hit gets cancelled, dbd started as killer is the host and that's means his game instance is the truth for all players, they moved to dedicated servers in 2018 but still all hits are judged by killer's game instance, that's why if killer has bad ping he still hit survivors well while survivors witness weird hits.

      @@mrpirate4100 "still see people get hit through pallet stun then the hit gets cancelled" This happened to me twice as I was playing killer. Hit a guy at pallet, pallet drop, scream of pain, stunned, no health state loss. The next game it happened again so I gave up playing killer.

    So about the second suggestion:
    I think that's what started this series of problems with the fast vaults. The devs I believe made their first fast vault change where the hitbox traveled through the window / pallet vault quicker, making you less likely to get hit even though you clearly made the jump. I think this ended up causing the current problem now, where fast vaults don't work the same for male and female survivors. Probably dev error, I think the change was perfectly fine when it was universally working.

    In my honest opinion. Visually it looks bad. U can get hit behind a rock because the pill lines up just perfectly with huntresses beachball. The lingering hitbox from nemmy hitting u .3 seconds after he threw it out. The hits through windows. But mechanically in my honest opinion its consistent. I can visualize the hitboxes, take latency into account and it makes perfect sense. U face a little bit laggy wesker? U get hit where u were 10 years ago. But when u play wesker urself u know u have to hit them head-on with ur dash to grab them. The hitboxes visually dont represent what they mechanically are. But at least its consistent.

      Remind me the old vaults build, when you tried to hit a surv with your m1/r2 and the surv's hand still on the window and got the animation of hitting a wall, it was awful

    I really wish they would address this issue as well as other small glitches and bugs. I've said it for years QUIT adding things and fix what's already there. Then you can add whatever you want, also I think it would be cool to give the survivors weapons even if its a one time use weapon at least there will be something to properly fight back with.

      I do plenty fine with M1 killers. And I’ve got around 5k hours in game. There needs to be a balance of safe/unsafe tiles in the game.

    i would be ok at a hitbox change but i may be worried it hurts m1 killer but is still a improvment, they can fix the hitbox and later on if NEEDED buff the m1 killers only if it generate infinite loops or something.

    FINALLY SOMEONE ACKNOWLEDGES IT. I hate playing against Weskers (this is the second reason, first is there is far too many of them) and Huntresses because of hitboxes unclearness. And with ping that problem goes faaar beyond just "hutchet was 15 cm away from me" to "that fckn hutchet was literally meter away from me". And as billy main, those hitboxes on survivours dont work the same as for huntress, there too many times, when i just SLIDE on survivour without hit.

    Wouldn’t have mattered in my region’s server sadly. Because Behaviour seems to think that everyone in Asia is living together. People usually get surprised when they get hit after vaulting a window but it’s the opposite for me 😂 If the killer misses I’ll be like “WOW a killer that has good ping or they live close to my country”

    Havent played DbD since the archives came out.
    Decided to give it another shot today.
    Every other match 1 Survivor abuses some new glitch to sit in lockers and basically become immortal.
    Tried to do the 4 Kills in basement archive - it`s bugged.
    As is the get 5 Hooks in the basement quest.
    It has been almost 4 years, how can the final quest in Archive 1 still be broken?

    As a Hag, I once hit someone who I could see was already over the pallet.
    As a survivor, I've been hit by a hatchet that even the killer knew shouldn't have hit me.

    In most games the capsule collider (the survivors hitbox) is only used for movement and an additional box/boxes are used and form better around the character models. Not sure why dbd hasnt adapted this yet, as an indie game maker this is pretty easy to do in Unreal Engine (DBDs game engine). Im guessing it wasnt a real issue long ago when the game initally released, but especially now that there are a lot more projectile-based killers it does make sense to introduce a new Hit-box that only senses weapon hits.

    I feel like an even bigger problem is how they are handling the way the data is processed between players though or so it seems, as someone with bad internet I can confirm there have been several times I have hit someone trying to loop me and they either don't take damage at all or several seconds later they just drop randomly without teleporting back to where I hit them, I feel like it's less of the survivors just have an outright garbage hitbox or anything and more of the way the server is transmitting information making them more skewed than they should be which in turn is creating a larger or in specific cases smaller window for killers to hit them

      If people are hit several seconds after you've actually hit them: get a better Internet.
      It's not an issue with the game is your net is just that trash, it's an issue with your Internet.

    Due to this hitbox problem I have left this game 2 times and I left it again today. Ping is also a huge problem for me like my ping is always 90-95 in the game which isn't a great ping at all specially for a game like DBD(I get 50-60 ping in most of the games that have Asian sever in Tokyo or Singapore, Since I'm from India)

    Glad you mentioned even revealing mechanic for Ghostface or guards. Still think this game could use little more polishing in a more competitive way, than being silly unbalanced game.

    Id love to see a picture just look at one shown at 1:00 but with the dwight and running while injured.
    As while he is healthy it looks like the thigh on the backfoot is the very middle of the hitbox. So you'd almost want to aim not at thr torso like in any game with normal hitboxes accurate to the model but at the backfoot and never the forefoot.
    Might be less exaggerated whole injured or more. If anyone has a link to a image like the one shown at 1:00 but with thr Dwight injured id love to see it

    Good to see someone still wanna talk about core problems of this game but its been almost 8 years now & to expect BHVR to do anything about it is as hopeless as it can get because they are floating fine in cash thanks to cosmetics & licensing while there is zero competition in the genre.
    Even if people stop playing they will still comeback to it in few weeks or months whenever a new licensed character is announced or simply if they don't have alternative to this game.

    I also want them to remove the auto aim I hate swinging at a survivor but I hit a door way or a rock because they turned. Auto aim is also why 360's are so effective because it messes with the hit and FOV.

    Especially with the new Zenomorph. I would be a whole old Dead Hard Dash away from a window and still get downed. Or even halfway down a drop from a window and the tail will phase through the wall, double in length, and play the GOTCHA B!CH sound as I belly flop onto the pavement.

    I thought it was me going insane. I’m somewhat new to dbd but I thought survivor hitboxes were the complicated type cause I was feeling robbed during chase when the killer would be hitting me from the moon.

    At least move hitbox a bit to front so if you running its more in the middle for Killer and Surv so visuell you can better guess its a hit or not, should i vault or try to dodge.

    the hitboxes are perfectly broken imo. i love them, i love 360, i love snipes as a huntress. Everything about them (except CURRENT (not previous) vaults) are great.

    Literally the past years everyone was talking about the hitboxes issues. Nowadays is not talked that much cuz the hitboxes with hit validation got better than in the past.

    i dont see the fear of at least keeping the bandaid fix of when you land a fast vault when the animation is basically near done you shouldnt be able to get hit by an m1. like medium vaults I expect to get hit if doing them remotely close to a killer, but fast vaults unless your doing it where if the instantly lunge would be able to hit you, they shouldnt be able to reactionary swing and get it

    They tried to use more in depth hitboxes a while ago, and in general it was worse than the current hitboxes. Especially Huntress players were complaining about it a lot.

    Actually hitbox ain't the issue, it's the networking.
    Your hitbox is always at the right place, but when you send an udp packet (what most games use) basically the other player may register their hit, while the other player feels like it didn't connect. I think it's due to early nature of the network when killers were technically the host, so they could just simply disconnect, hit a player then reconnect immediately. This would result in free hits. Nowadays it's on a server, but that would likely mean that killers udp packets are likely prioritized to survivors.
    For example the window vault is not seen every game, it happens occasionally, because occasionally you fail to send packets. This is one of the reasons why if I lagg i just get hooked and sac immediately, because well. let's be honest, you don't want to play in a laggy game.

      they did many many years ago... hatchet's had to connect to the models but it was a bit to extreme so every single killer players complained and bhvr reverted it immediately

    3:35 the invisible wall is a problem, but you missed the memo on how the devs want each maps shack to be slightly different and themed. The hay bales are there to spice up the loop so its not so brain dead easy to just run in a circle hugging the wall.

      @@Alex-eu6rw it's not and you just proved how new you are, go into custom game and load up MacMillan, find an L+T wall, study several times, then go to yamaoka and find an L+T, then go to a third map and find another. They all have junk and extra notches and etc around the loop to make them different in each map. Yamaoka specifically has notches in the ends of walls that make literally hugging the wall dangerous if you don't pay attention.

    I keep getting hit from far away and even on the side of vaults, one of the main reasons why I quit the game is unplayable. They keep trying to gaslight people into saying its latency but it's not latency, the hitbox trails behind the survivor. Tired of developers always lying. Mechanics of the game don't work as intended, just borderline unplayable.

    the fact that some people defend hitting survivors from miles away is weird as hell. it definitely makes new players not want to touch dbd ever which is never a good thing. it really is one of the worst problems in dbd

      It sucks for both sides. Hits that should've landed miss, hits that should've missed landed instead. It's terrible for both sides killer and survivor

      @@thedoomslayer5863 but definitely more common for survivors at least from my experience and what i see on streams. i hit my m1’s and m2’s fine for the most part when i play killer but when i play survivor i find myself praying that i don’t get a ridiculous hit way more than when i pray my hits connect when i play killer. i feel like it’s always like that when i watch others play as well. i think my biggest threat as killer are the loop hitboxes or a cursed bush/branch hitbox lmao other than that i really never have that much of a problem hitting survivors
