    Digistructing in the Borderlands series is essentially just very rapid 3D printing. With the guns, it's using the license that came with the gun to print an extra copy after you throw away the shoddy, explosive gun. It's like how a Sig fires when it's dropped, except instead of firing a round, it just explodes entirely.

    • @TheTolnoc

    In Lore Tediore guns are so prone to exploding in the users hands that the company decided to make it the companies signature feature where instead of reloading a new mag you throw your gun like a grenade and explode in your targets face and since you digitized the gun it can respawn into your hand fully loaded and ready to fire, at some point they decided to add AI's into the gun because smart guns became a fad.

    I also like to see Jonathan react to the guns of Binary Domain, which is a cyberpunk game taking place in 2080 in Japan, and the weapons that the main character squad, the Rust crew, are equipped with are basically futurized version of modern guns. And the robots that you fight also have their own standard issue guns, there's also the underground Resistance, who built their own guns. The game was developed by the same people behind the Yakuza games.
    I would also like to see Jonathan take a look at the guns of Vanquish, a 3rd Person Shooter from Platinum Games, the weapons ranged from futuristic assault rifles, shotguns, LMGs and pistols to energy weapons that actually use the main character's suit energy to fire, too bad Vanquish didn't sell well enough to warrant a sequel, which is a huge shame since the ending is quite abrupt.
    For an April's Fools special, it would be nice to see Jonathan react to the guns of Plant vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, eventhough only the zombie characters carry guns.

      10:28 the bullets having to teleport into the barrel (or being digistructed into it) is honestly something that could be canon for the borderlands universe.
      ...thinking about it, that might explain some of the weapons effects, as well as the Gunner in BL3 being able to shoot infinitely with the right build.
      also for the weapon before this one, the double V-shaped mags is common design for bandit SMGs, it doesnt _have_ to be the cutie killer.
      and the weapon after, the rocket-propelled, exploding shotgun, can probably spawn with a bayonet attachment. all weapons in borderlands are comprised of a certain number of parts, giving them certain properties. so unless the legendary part that gives it its effect is in the "attachment" slot, it can have a bayonet.
      also good to know that dave could always just pull out borderlands to torture Jonathan Ferguson, keeper of firearms & artillery at the Royal Armouries museum in the UK, because there are hundreds of crazy guns in that franchise.

    So each gun in borderlands has a manufacturer that sort of determines the like style of the gun and dictates how a bunch of its stats work. Tediore, the guns that you chuck to reload, where meant to be super cheep weaponry that was so unstable they where not able to reload, so you just digistruct a new one with ammo already in it. they are essentially disposable. throwing them with more ammo still in the mag increases the damage of whatever it does once thrown. most just explode. I usually preferred liquid thunder snipers with red dot scopes in the first game, but I cant remember who made them.

    Swordsplosion looks like it came out of 40k
    And for the sake of the means of launching rockets these days from aircraft changing from just being held within a rack to within pods (provided that was the question being asked).
    It's about aerodynamics as air flows much more stably around a single larger object as opposed to dozens of smaller objects in close proximity to one another. It's also the same reason why the Mk80 series of bombs because as jets were developed the stubbier bombs of the time often produced too much drag to get free from the jetstream of the aircraft under certain condition so the thinner longer Mk80 LDGP (Low Drag General Purpose) came in to replace older less streamlined designs like the M65, M117, and M118.

    The Bane, in Borderlands 2, is really nice because it gets more accurate while you shoot it, somehow, so if you just... hold down the trigger and embrace the madness, it eventually becomes extremely accurate, and does a lot of damage, relative to most weapons.

    One thing a lot of later fans don’t realize is that the manufacturer abilities are based on stat boosts from the first game. For example vladof was always known for high capacity and fire rate, hence auto snipers from 2 on and Tediore had boosted reload speed which is why they became throwable, with the reasoning that throwing your gun and digistructing a new one is faster than reloading.

    • @jyzow

    I think the purpose of having the secondary parts of the guns, the rockets and mortars and what not, swing or pivot out is to serve as a visual cue for the player as to what they're about to fire.

  • @samh9154
    @samh9154 2 месяца назад +3

    A lot of what Jonathan has a problem with is the fact that they are duel-function firearms, so they have a visual indication of when you are changing fire modes. That's why things rotate or swing out.

    16:37 "Because that's what Borderlands needs, more variety it its weapons." -Jonathan Ferguson
    "Borderlands, released by Gearbox in 2009, features some 17,750,000 weapons." -Guinness World Records
    Programmatically looking through the Borderlands 2 game data suggests it can generate 2,736,589 weapons.
    Programmatically looking through the Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel game data suggests it can generate 34,527,769 weapons. (1161.71% increase from previous game)
    Borderlands 3 Datamining (numbers current as of 2020-11-09) suggests the game can generate 4,007,410,150 weapons. (11506.3% Increase from previous game)
    Following this trend Borderlands 4 will increase the amount of weapons by ~115000% for a total of ~4,608,521,672,500 weapons. If Jonathan Ferguson spent 5 minutes per weapon, for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year (-2 weeks for holidays). It would take him 960,108,681.77 YEARS to react to every weapon.
    All this to say "Yes Jonathan, Borderlands DOES NEED more variety in its weapons."

    Out of all the borderlands guns, my favourite was definitely Sledge's Shotgun. A double barrel that sends your target to the moon if they didn't die instantly. The best part is that it shows up early after beating the first boss. Stuck with me for my entire playthrough of BL1.

    Borderlands needs to go back to what they originally had said the gun system was going to be. Before Borderlands 1 had officially launched, the marketing was saying you'd be able to dismantle any gun and make game-breaking guns. Unfortunately, back then some of the most insane gun builds would have completely crashed any hardware they were running on, so when the game launched they had to completely scrap the scrap/rebuild mechanic. With hardware and software optimizations being what they are nowadays, I'd love to see the old battleplan for BL guns come back.

    • @johnsteel6008
      @johnsteel6008 2 месяца назад +1

      There's a mod for 2 that came out not too long ago that adds something like that. There are limitations as to how game breaking you can make some things given that some parts just aren't meant to be on certain uniques and legendaries and such, but you can do some cool stuff and at the very least you could use it to make your own god rolls from multiple drops.
