  • @ganzonomy
    @ganzonomy 4 года назад +24

    One of the things that is criminally overlooked in the RLX is it's almost on the wrong side of the pond. The car is sold in the USA as the RLX, but as the Legend in Japan. Building on that, it's considered an "executive's car", which means some of the niceties in the TLX, Accord, etc., such as the big screen, turbo-4, etc., are omitted in the name of "proven reliability". In Japan, the top-of-the-line car such as the Toyota Century, Honda Legend, etc., are more "passenger-oriented" with the expectation the owner has a chauffeur, so reliability is paramount (hence the old-school clock as well). That's why even as the Lexus LS500h went to a twinturbo hybrid V6, the Century got the old LS600h's V8 hybrid setup... it's got a decade of proven reliability, whereas the TT V6 hybrid in the LS500h is "too new and unproven".
    The Honda Legend (JDM version) has functions in the rear seat via the center flip-down armrest that the RLX doesn't have, because again the Japanese view these cars as "chauffeur-driven". But in the USA, even luxury / executive cars have large followings where the owners tend to drive (hence why there are F-Sport Lexuses, Black Label R-Rs, Bentley Red Label / Supersports / Speed, etc.,). If you get the chance to do the SHAWD version, look at it from that perspective.... and put the sound system to good use. The SH-AWDs system is unreal.

      I love my 2020 RLX SH-AWD Hybrid! Picked it up a month ago and it is luxury, comfort, speed and amazing handling. I like the infotainment system, it's easy to use and the integrated screen is much more aesthetic than the newer ones that looked almost unattached, just plunked on the dashboard. I'm an Acura enthusiast, since 1988 starting with the Integra, which I still have along with my TLX (2015) and NSX (1991). I regret letting go of my '88 Legend Coupe five speed....

      @@mrgold3591 - There never seems to be any consistency with these automakers. Throughout the years of the Auto industry there's always been different trim levels of course. But I find it funny how some of the trim levels will come with leather, navigation, and power everything, but they won't include power folding mirrors or a power trunk. Or some top trim levels do come with power folding mirrors, but no power trunk. It's all so silly what the folks in charge do when making decisions.

    I have an used CPO 18 RLX Sport Hybrid purchased back in Dec/2019. It was overpriced at +$60,000 new; but, and excellent value in the used market for $20,000-$30,000 off MSRP back then. The Hybrid powertrain is the one to go for because you get 377hp/341tq and 28-30 mpg minimal always in city/hwy, and under 5 sec 0-60 times. Reliability will be +10 years and +150,000 miles for any Honda/Acura vehicle. Probably on of the best bang-for-the-buck fuel efficient awd sporty powertrain out there. All automakers realized the near luxury/luxury sedan market was dead years ago. The RLX just hung on +4 years too long like an over the hill athlete trying one last time.

    Every Acura looks a little dated but man they last forever it’s like you buy them when you have kids, you then hand them the keys when they graduated. The V6 lasts forever I see them on The used market with 300-400 thousand kilometres on them.

    The new TLX coming soon will be ahead of the Flagship RLX until this gets a redesign. Who knows, they may even discontinue the RLX and create a new SUV or crossover. I have the 19 TLX V6 with tech. Great vehicle. Is the interior outdated a bit sure, however it has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and that is current technology. Hopefully I don't even look at the dash around it and it's still serves its purpose well. You can actually ask for the V6 j35 is a wonderful engine.

    Naming is critical - it connects consumers to a legacy, to what they know and associate with a model. And when those associations are overwhelmingly positive - the Legend sold 60,000-70,000 units a year in the mid-90s - you keep that name. Ford brought back the Bronco - it didn't rename it the BCX. Chevy brought back the Trailblazer - it didn't call it the TBZ. It's not about excitement or some "awesome" factor either: It's just as important to keep the Camry name as Camaro: families want to say they own a Camry, not a CY320; muscle car enthusiasts want to say they own a Camaro, not a CMK. I think the same is true for sports sedan enthusiasts: they want a connection to a storied past. They'd rather own a Legend than an RLX.

    Honda’s stupidity never seizes to amaze me. Wanna know why the RLX isn’t selling and why it’s being discontinued? Simple. No V8. Why use the same motor in a TLX? Biggest automotive blunder. That’s why the tlx continues to outsell the rlx. Granted they have the hybrid option which raises the hp output but not numbers near it’s competitors. No millennial will buy this car, it’s main audience is guys in my age range. And in the beginning of time we were waiting for a fricken v8. I’ll die before Honda comes up with a consumer available v8.

    • @mrgold3591
      @mrgold3591 Год назад

      I don't know either? I have a 18 RLX and 19 MDX with the dual screen and I love it. Everything I need to see is at a glance. The most I have to do is zoom in/out the navi screen or adjust the temp (hard buttons for that). Most of the time I'm using the steering wheel controls for radio functions. Same for the push button gear shift. Everything is drive by wire throttle, brakes, steering, and transmissions anyways. It is like having the old window manual arm cranks for electric windows?

  • @jimsalmon5158

    What would be neat is if they could take the hybrid powertrain and the battery from the Honda Clarity and make a plug-in hybrid version of the RLX that can go 50mi on a single charge and switch to gas when needed.

    There won’t be a redesign this is the final year and it’s not hard to understand why look at Lexus GS is gone too these cars not offering V8 or updating their tech in ages caused the down fall of both. Yes the GS-F had a V8 but look how much it was for the same price could have a much nicer C63 or E63

    Never would I had thought that I would be happier with my former 2012 TSX than this used 2016 RLX. But it's my fault for assuming that the rear seats would fold down. Arghh, now I need a ski rack! If they bring the RLX back to market, they better consider adding-on versus downgrading simple features like rear seats that fold. Talk about buyers remorse..... it said sport but....
