Thank you for this informative review. Would it be possible to review the Acura RLX Sport Hybrid? Possibly compare your thoughts and experiences with the Lexus GS 450h and tell us which vehicle of the two you would prefer?
Just got a 2014 with 60k miles. Love it so far. I’m glad these are under appreciated gems as you can get them for almost half the price of its competitors.
Hey dude first off I gotta say thank you for this review & for giving the RLX its props. It is very much slept on & it does so many things well! Great review! I purchased a CPO 18 red/black RLX hybrid back in Dec/2019 with only 7200 miles on her. Prices were rock bottom pre-pandemic, cheap gas available, and everyone being SUV/truck crazy. Zero issues after +2 years and +20,000 miles on her now. The RLX really stands out and I get so many people asking about the car and commenting on how good it looks. Never seen below 28 mpg in the city and avg between 30-34 mpg on the hwy at 70-80 mph. Hard to justify the +$60,000 price new; but, an absolute steal in the used market.

I got 2016 RLX P-AWD Advanced package with 29k miles on it for $24k last year. It's the price of brand new Honda Civic EX. Because it's so underrated, I got a great deal. I love it so much. I don't care what professional car reviewers say, it's a great car and I like the looks too. I think you review is so fair. That's why I like your channel.
Great choice, amazing car. These "professional" car reviewers on most channels (not this) constantly suck up to many european cars and have an illegitimate bias. Not everyone wants a bone jarring ride to work in the morning, or hit the corners aggressively. Don't get me wrong, the AMG and M cars are amazing but the majority of the cars BMW and Merc sell are not those and theyve actually readuced their quality to what is was many years ago. My 2 cents, enjoy your sick RLX!
I feel bad LC100 I just saw this comment because Irfan R relied to it so I apologize for the late response but thank you so much guys, really humbled by your kind words. Yea I def like some Euro cars but others are just over hyped and you're right Irfan, most of the performance products ride like trash and they are def cost cutting interiors on entry level models which can still go for like 50-75k. Japanese cars drive great with very little compromises, the RLX is def proof of that and their interiors last the test of time and remain solid. Thank you again for stopping by and watching
The RLX is a well respected car in my opinion. And i would buy a Acura over any German car for the reliable aspect and being a owner of 4 Acura's i know the reliability is there. Also they are under appreciated in my opinion because the German market pushes these over priced car's without realizing cost of repairs that a person will go through if bought and not leased.
I bought the Acura RLX 2014 new and after 55000 miles drives as good as new. Not too many RLX's were being sold compared to TLX at that time, probably because of the price and reviews. I test drove the RLX immediately after TLX on the same day - fell in love with the RLX smoothness and handling compared to TLX and had to buy it although I had gone expecting to buy the TLX. Great review which reinforces my decision to buy the 2014 RLX. Two useless things missing from the review are Paddle Shifters as well as Acura Link which no one probably uses.
Thank you Kevin. This car does look gorgeous and conservative at the same time. To be honest, living in California, I haven't seen this model that much. But it was also expensive for it's time.
I have an '05 RL which I adore. I have the opportunity to buy a '14 RLX right now. But after watching this review and seeing what mine has as standard and this doesn't have, I think I may stick with my RL... I like the look of the RL better too. Thanks for your review noetheless. You may have just saved me $15k or so, Which I will undoubtedly spend on gas!
just a suggestion, try comparing it more to competitors or rivals instead of just saying "its great" "its awesome" it gives no real benchmarking for the viewer to guide him or her in her purchase journey or whatever, try criticising it more than complimenting it cuz its the critics that guides a buyer, for him to know his or her dealbreaker(s)
I really want to like Acura. The first generation RL 1996-2004 made a statement. Status of class the generations after that were just sad. The quality of Acuras aren't as good as the older ones. People are still having transmission issues, and ignition problems of their Acuras not starting. The new RLX is nice but I am still skeptical. Lexus and Infiniti would be my other options
I appreciate you not succumbing to most auto journalists who only care about the performance of a luxury car. Don't they get that those of us who want a luxury car don't car about 0-60?
I love my RLX I live in Sacramento and I barely see one of these around other than mine so it makes me feel a little special because every time I get a car everybody has got the same kind of car and may be a different color but the same kind of car so it was really cool that I found this vehicle and I love it. It has its drawbacks in a sense but more stuff than drawbacks so if you can find one in pretty good shape, I recommend getting it.
@@Profitswithfreedom hey Sir, so at the time that I wrote this everything is all good but I will tell you this make sure that when you buy one of these look over the maintenance history, take it to Acura have them do a full overhaul maintenance check to make sure all things are working properly. My car is currently in the shop right now for ball joint issues, so just make sure that the car suspension is working fine and you should be OK now this car is a champ. I just came back from Long Beach California from Sacramento and the thing performs admirably. The gas mileage is out of this world so I would recommend this vehicle just like any other vehicle though. Make sure you get a checked out properly so that way you’re not in over your head, but Maintenance cost if you get it done in a timely manner will save you a lot of money. I know that the timing belt service is about $2000 but it includes the timing belt spark plugs water pump belts everything else that is needed for at least 150,000 miles anything else just look it up to make sure that you’re on top of it other than that the car is a very very nice car for its age I know that when I go to the dealership they admire it they said they don’t make cars like this anymore but for the 2014 to 2016 model years just realize that in the 2014 model year the first generation of the RLX the suspension makes a quirky noise The suspension is fine but it just makes a quirky noise that makes it sound like it’s clunking that’s apparently normal because mine was doing that and still does but if you can get past that a little bit of noise, you’ll be OK.
@@usscamdenaoe2 thank you for replying back and going into detail. Much appreciated. They are some beautiful cars and very slept on. Being different is always good. Here in SC I honestly couldn't tell you if I ever seen one. I would love to keep in touch and tell you what I find and if it's worthy or not.
@@usscamdenaoe2 hello once again. So I've found what I think is an absolute GEM. 2014 CPO, at almost 40K miles, very few owners, seen the maintenance history on it. Not one major problem in regards to suspension, actuators, or anything...thoughts?
Depends on your driving skills, type of weather, and tires. I've been a fan of Cont DWS 06 tires on all my Acura's w/ and w/o sh-awd. My 18 RLX hybrid is the wife's daily driver and she hasn't seen mpgs below 27 city and can see up to 34 mpg hwy.
@@chaincommander5980 I've never driven a Lexus. It has always been Acuras (06 TSX, 08 RDX, 11 MDX, 18 RLX hybrid, 19 MDX hybrid). I've always lean towards a sporty ride with Aspec suspensions, Progress RSB, electronic or magnetic dampers, and plus size tires on those vehicles. You might have to take back-to-back test drives on the same road to see which you like better. My 19 MDX Adv hybrid with electronic dampers, 321hp, 7DCT, 24-27 mpg always, and sh-awd ride better to me than my 18 RLX hybrid with regular soft tuned suspension.
"Brakes that won't put you through the windshield" is a nice way of saying they suck lol you can always apply less brake but it's hard to add more brake when you need it. Better to have too much and let the anti-lock sort it out in an emergency than too little.
Lol no that's not what it means I hate overly grabby brakes for no reason where they just put all the bite up front and it's not really a better braking system. Volvo typically does this with their new cars it is like its made for people who don't know how to properly bring a car to a stop. I like a more progressive feel to the brakes like how Acura and Lexus program their brakes
@@MeynMotorGroup you should compare the price of getting an older g35/g37 with modern upgrades compared to the price of a q50. I have a feeling with like an extra $1,000 you could turn the g35 into pretty much a Q50 for half the price.
I would Love to see a ZDX/Crosstour V6 SH-AWD review! Honda is bringing them back after removing them because of bad marketing they didn't sell well. Very underrated car that should be more reconized because it's a sedan-hatch with some power and great carrying capacity without jumping for the the RDX/MDX.
Hi Could you please give us feedback on 2014 rlx suspension since I heard lot of complaints about 2014 rlx suspension. Need to decide between 2014 rlx and 2013/2014 Lexus es350.
$13,000?? 😱 I still regret not keeping my 2005 RL longer. When I bought it CPO, I added the a-spec package and think that design looked best in silver. There’s so many little details with that car I loved where it was on a totally different level than the TL at the time. The seats were like pillows, the doors opened all the way to 90 degrees, and the sound system is probably still the best I’ve owned. That’s even after me having 2 Mercedes with the premium sound system and the Bose system on my G37 later. I got a brake service done on the RL and got suckered doing a brake flush which ruined the seals. That was going to cost me $1500 so I decided to unload it after only about 20 months of ownership. Big mistake and really didn’t like my next car half as much
8 and 10 speed transmission can have problems since they are relatively new and manufacturers are still working out the bugs. I rather have a tried and truth transmission than one that's new since I don't know if it will have problems.
Haha already reviewed an XJ my friend here is the link: ruclips.net/video/YqZ_CFhUL3c/видео.html Not as good of condition as the white one Cabriolet has but hopefully you find value with this vid
Thanks for another great videp bro! I've been looking at some Acuras recently like the Tl for my first car because they do look cool and not very generic but theres not much for $3000. I'm not really sure what car or SUV to get at the moment because I want it to be a little different than what some people have if that makes sense, what kind if car or SUV would you suggest for something like that if I may ask?
Hmm 3k is tough and I completely understand where you are coming from. Honestly you will probably hate to hear this but a Civic is phenomenal and I am not kidding you just a great car and it truly lasts. Manual can be a lot of fun too. 3k is just not enough of a budget for any real japanese luxury cars unless its some 1990s ES 300 which looks like a Camry and is beat to hell and will look worse than a civic. Just my thoughts. I think 10k is a better budget get a warranty and try to get financing from a credit union
@@MeynMotorGroup Yeah I know you cant do much with $3000, it's my first car that's why it won't be a lot of money 😆 thank you by the way I appreciate it
@Godspeed Megatronus 2nd gen prius ('05-'08?)? A lot of people are afraid of getting hybrids because of battery costs but priuses are so common that parts/ battery are relatively cheap. It also doesn't have the Toyota tax that Corolla or civics carry. 2nd gen priuses has advanced tech for its age and price range (remote key, infotainment). I've seen a lot of people say their prius reach 600k+ miles. Also at $3k you can't be that picky on what the car looks like unless you're looking for a dragging bumper. Worry about reliability. You don't want to add more stress while learning to drive
Exhaust Sports Auto I agree about the front wheel drive aspect too. It’s a well rounded setup for the daily. Also, people always forget with AWD you’d have to change all the tires at the same time you can’t just rotate them or replace in pairs. The only negative to this car imo is the premium fuel requirement
@@chocolatewheelchair Correct yes and also yes it does need premium fuel. Some people would not put premium fuel in their acuras and it ran fine but for higher mileage cars I would recommend it
Exhaust Sports Auto Exactly. If it says Premium Required on the gas cap you gotta do it but a lot of people don’t. I legit called 6 Infiniti dealers around the US about putting Regular fuel in my previous car, a 3.0 twin-turbo Q50 and half of them said Regular was fine despite it clearly saying Premium Required on the gas cap. Lots of fake info out there. Acura’s are cool, never owned one but I almost leased a 2004 Acura TSX. In retrospect, I should have bought that car because I still see a lot of them on the road and they aged quite well. [At the time, I leased a 2004 Saab 93 instead 😂] What was I thinking?
You are wrong, cylinder shut off was introduced a while back 2012 accord had it. I own a RLX and I get average of 27 mpg for a full size sedan. It's my daily commuter I have 370k miles on bought it with 20k miles 2015. Not a single issue besides regular maintenance.
I WAS WRONG!!!!!! sorry 😞 I have 4 million miles on my Chevy Silverado with cylinder deactivation I get about 93 mpg so I think my Chevy proved to be a bit more reliable you know?
I have 2014 with cylinder de activation and was considering having the deactivation system disabled. Thanks to your experience I’ll leave mine as it is.
I have a CPO 18 RLX sport hybrid since 2019. The powertrain is outstanding with 377hp/341tq, mpgs always +28 city and 30-34 hwy, extremely quick, and very comfortable to drive. The 18-20 RLX have a softer suspension setup and can feel more lexus soft hwy cruiser than M/AMG/S-line sporty sedan. The info-tainment is outdated and doesn't have Carplay (but you can add GROM to fix). Perfect car if you love to drive, not so much if you love luxury touches or high tech more (I love to drive).
during my shopping for AWD this Vehicle came across. one thing turn me off . the maintenance cost . reading consumer review . I noticed they mentioned preparation for expensive maintenance. but that is regarding the AWD version in which the fully loaded. maybe on this base one . a bit reasonable. but I do like the overall look style and interior design.
The only additional maintenance cost with the hybrid is changing the oil in the rear twin motor unit every 30,000 - 60,000 miles with the same 7DCT DW-1 fluid and changing the separate coolant for the DC inverter at 105,000 miles (uses the same coolant as the engine). Other than that, same scheduled maintenance as the fwd 3.5L RLX; but, your get 377hp, under 5 second 0-60 mph times, and always +28 mpgs.
Sound normal, my A/C went out on my 06 TSX (+176,000 miles) and 08 RDX (+195,000 miles) around the same mileage. The dealership will charge you $1000-$2400 to fix. Went to a local shop and fixed for around $750 and both worked perfectly to this day.
I'm surprised people don't like the look of this looks far cleaner than even some full size German rivals long wheel base makes it look much better than TLX in person
I test drove the 2020 ES 350 Ultra luxury again. I decided to take my professional decibel meter. The result's, the ES 350 was 3-5db quieter with peaks and dips at 40mph on fresh tarmac and at 60mph on worn freeway than a 6 year old 20k Toyota on worn Michelins. That would equate to twice or three times as quiet in a lab environment. The ES was built like a tin can, compared to the RLX and the 2021 TLX. The biggest flaw was the atrocious wind noise and tire noise of traffic at highway speed. Was definitely not a bank vault at all. Conclusion: Go buy a V6 Camry or Avalon if you need more room and have to have a Toyota. The RLX 16-17/ 18+ is more refined than the new TLX, ES, and LS500. I will be purchasing a 2017 like your review car that has 8k miles CPO for around $20k hopefully by Christmas.
My 2012 accord V6 has massive engine issues only 3 years in. The cylinder deactivation causes awful problems. The engine would basically die every 3 months and would be in the shop for at least a week. I quit in it after a year of that problem every 3 months. Can’t trust Honda anymore 😞😞😞
Cylinder deactivation is the biggest downfall of great engines, Chevy also has problems. This is why I exercised great caution in my review and stated a warranty is mandatory
Yo I feel like when it comes to modern vehicles you can't trust any manufacturers. Too much tech. From toyota to BMW, CPO with warranty is a must for late model cars.

Just bought a 2018, white, with black Interior ❤
Just traded my 18 accord 1.5 sport for a 2020 rlx tech pack. Only 11k miles. Eats up the road flawlessly.
I love my 2018 Tlx Sh-Awd A spec. Had 8 acuras and loved all of the. They do have a uniqueness with them.
Kevin knows BEST.
I have one as well 2014 advance and it is the best car I have ever owned...Definitely a great buy in the used market..
That's awesome glad you appreciate and owned this car
Great review, thanks dude.
I can't imagine why someone would pay like 4x to get a brand new one that will depreciate like crazy.
Two useless things missing from the review are Paddle Shifters as well as Acura Link which no one probably uses.
ok,i m not gonna say about your review, its too obvious (#1)
what amazes me,is the car selection.Are you a mindreader?D
keep your revs there kevin,gj!
Haha appreciate that glad you are liking the selection and videos humbled to hear it
Car selection be on point with regular consumers! This was great!
I love my 2014 RLX Hybrid, I also love to detail it!!!!! I live in Raleigh too
Awesome! Love seeing viewers close by!
I had a choice between this car and a 2013 Lexus GS350 AWD. I chose the Lexus. I still like this model.
Can't go wrong with either both are amazing for sure
just a suggestion, try comparing it more to competitors or rivals instead of just saying "its great" "its awesome" it gives no real benchmarking for the viewer to guide him or her in her purchase journey or whatever, try criticising it more than complimenting it cuz its the critics that guides a buyer, for him to know his or her dealbreaker(s)
Watch the whole video compared with LS and all other German cars
I really want to like Acura. The first generation RL 1996-2004 made a statement. Status of class the generations after that were just sad. The quality of Acuras aren't as good as the older ones. People are still having transmission issues, and ignition problems of their Acuras not starting. The new RLX is nice but I am still skeptical. Lexus and Infiniti would be my other options
I appreciate you not succumbing to most auto journalists who only care about the performance of a luxury car. Don't they get that those of us who want a luxury car don't car about 0-60?
Tis a wonderfull little gem of mine shes given me no reason to get rid of her I kinda want another. Great car I love it!
It is great for sure!
How’s the reliability on this vechicle? Can it last well over 150k miles without having any major issues?
I really appreciate this video.
What are the drawbacks? I'm doing some pretty serious due diligence.
@@Profitswithfreedom sounds good anytime I can help is great 👍
@@usscamdenaoe2 hello once again. So I've found what I think is an absolute GEM. 2014 CPO, at almost 40K miles, very few owners, seen the maintenance history on it. Not one major problem in regards to suspension, actuators, or anything...thoughts?
Car is underrated I want one
I kinda want an RLX just for the Krell sound system. If I ever get rid of my old GX470 I'd seriously consider getting one.
Thank u! Better daily driver and wet weather: 2014 -2016 RLX or 2004 - 2006 LS430. You're input much appreciated!
CC
Depends on your driving skills, type of weather, and tires. I've been a fan of Cont DWS 06 tires on all my Acura's w/ and w/o sh-awd. My 18 RLX hybrid is the wife's daily driver and she hasn't seen mpgs below 27 city and can see up to 34 mpg hwy.
@@mrgold3591 Thank you much in your opinion which is more Comfortable for daily driving
Great review. I’d love to hear your thoughts on a G37 sedan, I feel like it’s a bit different than the convertible.
Will absolutely try to get that and a Q50 to review if I get access to those cars!
I have been looking everywhere for a ZDX such a rare and strange car looks great too
I’m seeing a bunch of reviews calling this car extremely unreliable
Never buy any used car without a quality warranty
Is this vehicle expensive to maintain? I try to get one now
New TLX has a 20 mm longer wheelbase than the RLX so its kind of its successor
Not interior space though
@@VideoGamera they are about the same the TLX is just a little smaller in the back.
Is the VCM an expensive fix? Mines has a warranty but I’m curious to how much these issues may run
Oh that crap can run into the thousands quick lol def a good thing you have a warranty
I just brought a 2017 with 35k...i was wondering how well it would age. Great video! I love this channel
Congrats on your new purchase! That is awesome such a great car, enjoy it for many more years
great car depreciate like crazy
Yea that is true probably another reason why not many of these sold new and why so many want them used
Hi
Could you please give us feedback on 2014 rlx suspension since I heard lot of complaints about 2014 rlx suspension.
I rather have a tried and truth transmission than one that's new since I don't know if it will have problems.
correct this is another reason why 6 speeds are great
I just bought a 2014 with literally 11k miles it was some dudes aunts car at the dealer
Thats a steal
Did you experience torque steering on this car?
Does cylinder deactivation actually affect engine reliability?
yes it does... its hard on the engine and therefore a shorter lifespan
Ive been looking at these to trade my xfs in. I have a TSX and love it. The XFS has crazy power but it's something avout these cars.
Please do a review of that Jaguar XJ that they have!!! That car is gorgeous!!!!!😍😍😍😍
Haha already reviewed an XJ my friend here is the link: ruclips.net/video/YqZ_CFhUL3c/видео.html
Not as good of condition as the white one Cabriolet has but hopefully you find value with this vid
@@MeynMotorGroup Yeah I know you cant do much with $3000, it's my first car that's why it won't be a lot of money 😆 thank you by the way I appreciate it
@@megatronusorionpax4900 haha understandable best of luck my friend hope you find what you're looking for
@@MeynMotorGroup Thanks bro
@Godspeed Megatronus 2nd gen prius ('05-'08?)?
Had this car. It's amazing
I feel like in real life, this is a really nice car
It is a fine automobile people are sleeping on Acura such a joy to drive and make so much sense used. With an aftermarket warranty of course
I'm going to try and Review a Saab 9-3 lol
There's one for sale in my town right now 2014 RLX in white for $9800 but it has 156k miles
@@MeynMotorGroup you should contact Chevy I'm sure they ll pay you a million dollars for that truck. Sounds like a winning lottery ticket to me.
I jk bro I dont own a Chevy never have very happy your RLX has held up for you its a great driving underrated car
@@MeynMotorGroup I'm pretty sure it was a joke. But in either case, good review.
I have 2014 with cylinder de activation and was considering having the deactivation system disabled. Thanks to your experience I’ll leave mine as it is.
The VCM Tuner ll is great for turning off the cylinder deactivation
Great to know!
would the dealership do it for me?
@@ab6386 they’re are plenty of videos on how to a dealer might a local mechanic would.
what do you think about the rlx sport-hybrid?
Never tried it
I have a CPO 18 RLX sport hybrid since 2019.
RIP ACURA RLX
2014-2020
Yup
It makes me want to design the Legend
i believe the RLX will continue on as the legend in japan
Hopefully you can review 2016-2017 BMW 650i Gran Coupe someday Kevin.
I did review the 2014 750i if you are interested!
If you had to pick between a 2014 RLX or ES fully loaded for the same price, what would you choose? :)
RLX but it is a flagship vs an entry level Lexus so hard to compare the two
There are a MILLION Lexus ES on the road. I would hate being a follower.
What model years of the rlx have cylinder Deactivation.
All of them I believe
during my shopping for AWD this Vehicle came across. one thing turn me off . the maintenance cost . reading consumer review .
The ac went out on mine. My car is at 100,000 miles and I owe $12,000 on the Acura. Idk if I should keep it or trade it in.
@@mrgold3591 I just sold my RLX for $14,750 with 100,000 miles on it and no working AC. I needed a new condenser, compressor and evaporator core

Thanks again!
I can see why Acura didn't sell a lot of these. Its unremarkably generic looking and doesn't have enough differentiation from the TLX.
I'm surprised people don't like the look of this looks far cleaner than even some full size German rivals long wheel base makes it look much better than TLX in person
I read that 2014 model had a lot of issues!
I want it
