This happened on my wife's 2005 Acura TL. Had to unplug the Bluetooth module that was mounted in the ceiling after dropping the interior lights housing. She never used it anyway.
Good call, i thought i heard something about the hands free link system draining batteries( didnt know it affected rdx models also). From what i hear replacements are expensive so its better to just disconnect as you did.
As an Acura driver for 18 years, I have had 3 Acura: 1 integra and 2 RDA. For 18 years, I never had a single issue with the 3 cars. Absolutely nothing, not even a light or fuse problem. My first one was Integra (5 years old). I paid $4000 and drove from 1991 to 1995 and sold for $3500. My second one was RDA SUV bought it for $28,000(only 2800 miles) and drove it to 100,000 miles and sold it for $9000; then I bought a new one 4 years ago. While my wife has had BMW, Toyota, and Benz. We also never had any problems with Toyota. BMW and Benz are clearly lower quality in terms of reliability.
I am looking at a 2008 acura mdx with 160k, from all the research I have done it says that the 2008 is one of the best years for the mdx. I also will only buy Toyotas or Hondas, right now I have the 2008 RAV4 and yes it has the V6!!! I have had Hondas too just never an Acura (I know they are the same company). Has anyone had issues with this model???
It’s definitely the hands free Bluetooth module. I experienced this with my 06 TL. With so many phones developing over the early 2000s, Acura seemed to have quit on releasing firmware updates for this feature so around 2009/2010 this feature stopped working for me. It wasn’t until 2017/2018 that we figured out the problem. Sucks that a feature that didn’t even work for almost a decade is what was draining my battery. Scotty, next time you should do a video on the cruise control system failure. My on/off button never stayed depressed so I had to keep it depressed with electrical tape. You have to take out the entire airbag to fix this issue smh!
Yes. This is true I had the same issue and found that I could get into the box under the shifter on the passenger side. I just pulled the plug out of the bluetooth module and my electric issues were solved. This issue destroyed a lot of batteries on the journey to locate the fault.
That's exactly what it is👍🏾👍🏾.. Acura's aren't known to have many problems. I've had 4 Acura's between all 4 the only issue I had was a sticky sunroof RLX and a vibrating air dam under an MDX.
Its the handsfree+bluetooth is a paracite battery eater...i detached my bluetooth a month ago and its not draining anymore😊 just adding some input here Scotty thanks!
Definately the HandsFreeLink module. This is extremely common for Acuras. Feel the plastic cover around the garage door opener and sunroof switches, if it feels warm you found your issue. Mine did that and a quick internet search led me to this issue. I disconnected the module and a 2 years later no issues. Also the Bluetooth stopped working, that's another clue.
Same deal with my 2012 RDX. Stranded me twice. After a little research and a lot of frustration I found the Hands Free connection and unplugged it. PROBLEM SOLVED 😬
Yep. Same on my MDX. Unplug and I bet the draw disappears. Have also read where people “bake” the HFL unit which helps “resolder” some of the joints. Never tried it tho...just got the aftermarket Bluetooth that connects to the XM aux in the back and it works great.
Alexander Coombs This is very true- I had an 06 TL and while I owned it I never had the issue, I heard years later it did- also occurred with my sister in law’s 06 MDX (they had the issue with the intermittently dying battery- I disconnected the HFL in ~ 10 minutes and it’s been fine since). It’s a known issue with the HFL module made by Johnson Controls in Mexico- either just disconnect it and be done or replace it.
This is actually a well known issue with the RDX/MDX platform. There are a handful of "common" reasons why the batteries on the 07's drain. Bluetooth, door actuators, and stereo amp are the most common I've seen. I have to say, having owned one now for 2 years, it's a fantastic little car... Once you install the Hondata tune and get the turbo to spool like it should! Pretty dang boring without the Hondata tune.
I was a Acura tech for 29 years , the problem is in either in the a/c clutch relay or HFL module. That model had huge issues with a/c clutch relays. I would replace the relay due to its cheap and gives peace of mind, along with i guarantee it will fail eventually.
Quick question. Having water leak coming in on passenger front up by top corner of windshield. Coming in where pillar plastic meets roof liner. Already blew out sunroof drains, draining good. Still have leak. Any thoughts with your Acura experience please?
Either replace or much more simply just disconnect the wire from the Bluetooth module (hands-free link) located by the rear vents inside the center console. They're widely known for draining the battery on Acura's.
We've owned 2 of these Acura RDXs. The first gen was a little so so because of the power and the concern over changing the corroding washers to avoid the mixing of coolant & oil. Now, the 2nd generation has been absolutely AMAZING once you put the VCM disabler on. Of course here's a few things we've done to really make the experience better- Upgrade the battery to handle the load from the features & entertainment system, replace the poor oem shocks with KYBs, Drain & refill trans fluid every 15-20k (change filter ever with 30k), & change the spark plugs after you disable the VCM. Doing that has allowed us to maintain consistent V6 power @ 26mpg on the highway, & around 23 city. Ask me anything, these are really awesome cars, these VCM disabled 6 cylinder motors & 6 speed transmissions are bulletproof if you maintain them and keep the fluids changed. We wanted to consider the snazzy 3rd generation RDXs, but are concerned about the drive train (turbo charged engine combined with a questionable 10 speed) & the quirky touchscreen entertainment system that many dealers have stated owners aren't appreciating as much as initially expected...
My 2015 RDX hasn’t put a foot wrong since I bought it in 2018. I got it with 50,000km on it and it has 230,000 now - timing belt went at 210,000 and thankfully I have a mechanic brother. The engine is flawless - will buy another.
I am a music enthusiast, however, I have immense admiration for you, Scotty. Your wealth of knowledge and insightful perspective is truly remarkable. I have watched numerous of your videos and I am grateful for your willingness to share them with us. Much love.
Will get odd readings if on AC when measuring DC. I have a clamp meter in my car that covers DC supply. Intermittant faults are a bloody nightmare to trace
It's the old style Bluetooth happens on the 3rd gen TL 1dt gen tsx basically any Acura in the mid 2004 through 2008 with the handsfree link Bluetooth not the ones after just disable the Bluetooth all g or upgrade the Bluetooth module aftermarket
I had a similar issue with my 2005 TL where if it sat for too long the battery was getting drained. Did some research and determined it was probably the hands free link module malfunctioning. I replaced the module with a used one for about $100 and it never happened again. Apparently Honda got some bad batches of these modules that would eventually go crazy.
I knew what Scotty was gonna say b4 I clicked on the video...2006 Acura TL... Dealth with this for 3 years ...replaced batteries, alternator, unplugged the blue tooth module, replaced module 3 times, finally unplugged for good...I really like this car but I wished Acura would have been straight up about the failure...it would have saved me all the money I spent and being stranded in various places and times of the night and having to jumpstart my car Everytime I needed to drive it until i figured out what wrong (Thanku RUclips platform!!!!)...keep the info coming Scotty...I really like ur channel!
My Hyundai was doing the same thing. There was a CD stuck in the player, and it would unsuccessfully try to eject it even when the ignition was off. I disassembled the radio, and removed the CD and now the battery is fine.
I have a 2005 MDX. It's been a great car until about 2015 or 2016, I started having dead battery problems. Initially they told me it was due to my current driving habits, going short distances between starts, so the battery never got a chance to recharge. I temporarily solved the problem by driving the car everyday, or long enough to charge the battery. But if I forgot to drive for 2 or 3 days, the battery went dead. If I left home for over a week I disconnected the battery, and the car started right up when I returned home. I bought a portable jumper battery, and in the past 2 years I have jumped my battery countless times. I took it to the dealer 2 times to get the electrical system checked but they reported no problems. I just took it in (June '22) and they reported a bad battery, so I had that replaced. I brought up the problem again and they said they would try disconnecting the Bluetooth (which I never used). I don't know if that worked since I have to stop driving the car for several days. My ON STAR stopped working also. Other than that, I love the car, and it's great on long-distance road trips. I keep up the regular maintenance schedule, and the mechanics say it is in great condition, aside from the normal things that wear out. Those get expensive, but it could be worse if I didn't keep up the regular maintenance.
I have a 2007 Acura MDX. The car was 10 years old and had 171,172 miles on it when I bought it. One of the first repairs (of many) I did was to replace the alternator. I kept seeing a "check battery" light flickering on and off. My mechanic confirmed the alternator was bad. I then would notice a humming sound. After checking online, I saw the bluetooth system would be draining the batteries of Acuras from this model year and left unchecked would ruin the alternator. I pulled the bluetooth system out, and have never again seen the '"check battery" light come on. I suspect this RDX has the same issue. All you need to do is to pull out the bluetooth system; problem solved. Unless the alternator needs to be replaced as a result of the drain.
I had the same problem with my 2009 mdx before knowing what was causing the drainage the 1st time I took it to the dealer and they said that the acura link module aka Bluetooth needed replacing so I did, the 2nd time about a year later same problem they said I needed a new alternator so I did and now about 3 months after a new alternator my car would not start, luckily I got a jump and after 10min it started so I quickly went and got a new battery installed and it's been ok ever since, so I did some research and the problem was the acura link module is a bad design and acura knows about it but will never tell you, to fix the problem you will need to disconnect the module its very easy to due the module sits behind your center console, sit in the middle of your back seat and pull back were the heat comes out from, it will be pretty hard so you'll need to pull hard once thats off you'll see it it's a black box about 5" long 3" wide and 1" thick it should have a grey or black connector on right or left of the box with some wires just disconnect it and thats it , you just wont be able to use the Bluetooth no harm done, you might need to unscrew the box before you can disconnect it....
This issue is typical across Acuras. Easy fix: Disconnect the HFL unit (usually located in the center console for Acura MDX and RDX) to stop the parasitic drain.
@elliotmiller2739 , Just open the center console, identify the HFL unit (a simple Google search will be helpful), then disconnect it. It worked so well for me as I am still using my 2009 Acura MDX to date, issue free. I love this car!
I have a 2007 Acura TL. Had same issue, all it was is the (HFL Hands free Link) I just disconnected it and never had the issue again. It’s located above the review mirror where the sun roof button is.Take apart and disconnect the computer module.
The amp clamp was set to ac instead of DC..... From the FLUKE website How to measure current with a clamp accessory Determine if the current to be measured is ac or dc. Select a clamp accessory for your multimeter that is designed to measure that specific current or one that can measure both ac and dc. Note: Look at the accessory clamp’s specifications and determine whether the clamp outputs a current level or a voltage level.
I know this video is old but I just bought a 2010 rdx for cheap because it had a similar problem. After reading through some forums I found out it was the bluetooth module located under the center console. I just unplugged it and that solved my battery drain problem
Owning an Acura of those years, I'd put my money on the HFL Bluetooth module. It's a problem on a lot of models when it stops working well. I just unplugged mine, even if it wasn't a problem yet. Got an aftermarket module to have phone and bluetooth music instead.
Scotty I watch your videos all the time and I have to say you are absolutely spot on. I typically watch this for carfacts and interesting antics, but today I received a life lesson. Scotty said and I quote, " Its raining but that doesn't stop me". Period
I had a similar problem with my 2006 MDX. The problem was the handsfree Bluetooth module I think. The problem went away after I unhooked it. Never used that thing anyway!
Very common on these year Acura’s, it’s the stupid hands free link system. It malfunctions and starts to do that, just drains out the battery. With through this with my brother in laws 07 TL-S
I had a 2008 TSX that had slow drain that turned out to be the factory Bluetooth hands-free unit. Considering these are from similar years, may be a similar issue
Bluetooth module gone bad - classic for Honda Accord 2007, drain battery in 3 days. I disconnected mine and it was hot even though car hadn't been out of the driveway. No more battery drain
I think it is the Bluetooth module. When it goes bad etc it randomly keeps randomly searching to hook up/connect to a Bluetooth device. The easy fix is to just disconnect it since they are pricey $250+?) of course it means no more Bluetooth calls etc. Beats having to open the hood all the time to disconnect the battery.
Scotty you had an error in your current clamp usage. You have a current clamp that is able to measure True RMS AC or DC but according to the display it is on the AC setting and a car battery is definitely a DC source. I have never seen a current clamp used that way that didn't jump around.Try again but make sure you hit the select button and change it to DC. You will probably find the indication of power drain you were looking for. Good luck!
I had an ‘03 Tundra that did the same thing. The Toyota dealership couldn’t find any drains but if I left it for more than three days it would not start. I finally traded it.
Its the Bluetooth. Happened to my MDX too. They disconnect it. I believe there is/was a class action lawsuit against Acura for it as they just disconnect your bluetooth rather than fix/recall causing you to lose resell value.
I worked for Honda/Acura - on those years RDX the Bluetooth computer modules were all faulty. There was a service bulletin that was issued, he could have had a new one installed under warranty. Also the Navigation was issued a service bulletin, that unit was tied into the HVAC unit harness and it would freeze the nav unit sometimes. It would be replaced at no charge to customer if they let the dealer know. New Nav unit and wiring relay. Good luck convincing the service manager anything is wrong unless they witness it lol
I had a mercedes doing the same thing i installer a master switch like on off road heavy equipment, you can place it in cab that way you can shut off all power and turn it back on without opening the hood haaaaa
On Honda’s it’s common for the A/C clutch relay to stick. Not sure on Acura’s. I also had an accord that had an after market Bluetooth that was shorting out causing battery drain
I had the same issue on a 2008 Acura and it is a known issue with the hands free system searching for a connection. Once I pulled the overhead light and disconnected it no more issues.
I have read with Acura products over the years people have issues with their Transmissions or some type of electrical problems. Other than that it's a good car 🤷♂️
Do a voltage drop test across the fuses to see if you can isolate the circuit. Use a wiring diagram to see what modules are on that circuit and unplug them one by one. Or fit a remote isolator if you can't fix it.
I have a an 2005 Acura Tl. Same issue. Turned out to be the bluetooth hfl module. I took it off and problem dissapeared . This is a common Acura bug....at least in the TL's
My 2015 Accord had a battery sensor recall. No idea if the 13 year old RDX has one. Others are thinking about the bluetooth and hands free link systems.
I have the same quick disconnect as this guy and get this I have the same gremlin as well on my 2006 Acura TL... I'm going to take it to the local Sun Valley stereo here to see what they can do... My mechanic recommended them today and that he's had that shop for over 20 years. He even said my car drives really nice But, I also have a lot of aftermarket electronic stuff on it and they would defiantly be able to help. I wish I lived 200 miles from you Scotty because to me it would be worth it to drive to you.
I have three of them and never had an issue. As a matter of fact one of them. Is a 2004 acura tsx and has 400000 miles never has had any problems. Also an mdx 2007 never any issues and now i have another tsx 2012 and never had problems.
Uh? He couldn't diagnose the most common issue on Acuras that's been going on for more than 15 yrs. Hands free link blue tooth module. He just showed everyone that he is too old school to keep up with the times
@@supersabrosinho How? He most likely fixed this and fixes on many cars. He could have found it faster by using the internet but wanted to show how you could find problems on your own.
It's the HandsFree link Module, I had that problem in my Acura 07 always draining the battery if it sat for 2 or 3 days, went to Acura forums and they suggested to disconnect the HandsFree Module located on the roof behind the sunroof switch, disconnect that damn thing and never had that problem again that was 4 years ago
No need to use a clamp on and look for milliamperes. Its the Blue Tooth module that is in the console. When they get old they drain. I’ve had my 2008 MDX for 30 years. I unhooked the BT module...which I never use...and it no longer drains batteries. It has been fixed for 2 years.
Scotty, I would use a portable AM radio tuned to an open frequency above 1200kHz then I would hold the radio against various modules and listen for bus/cpu activity. The module with the loudest buzz/hash noise could be the culprit.
You remind me of my local independent mechanic for my old 1990 535i. I'll ask him about having to fix a small issue and he will reply "Why? It's not an issue and doesn't affect anything." He does great on what NEEDS to be fixed to keep it all sorted. The little bits, heck, he tells me it's a lot cheaper to do it myself since he knows I like working on my car. I always get great advice even when I do. :)
Crazy my grandma had a Taurus that drained the battery if it set longer than 3 days. She got a thing she could flip when she wasn't driving it. When she was she would flip it back and start it up.
damn that dude is a car genius. I've seen cars problems repair themselves on their own when they heard diagnose dan is going to check on the car. thats how legendary diagnose dan is
yeah Scotty just showed his age just now he couldn't diagnose the most common issue on Acuras for the past 15 years. The handsfreelink Bluetooth module. Kinda disappointed Scotty just blurted out it was a computer issue
I literally just finished unplugging the Bluetooth/hands free from my new to me 05 Acura TL. Fixed the problem completely! It’s a common problem for those gen of Acura’s.
FYI, those battery disconnects are great, also antitheft... :) But on the ones like that that I've used, all you actually have to do is loosen the top (green) handle and it's disconnected, no need to actually remove the cable where it's attached with the screw. I was surprise Scotty didn't show checking the battery's condition first, that'd be where I'd start. Perhaps it's on it's last legs, still can start the car when fully charged, but even a small drain for a few days brings it down enough to not start again. RichE San Diego, CA
Scotty I bet you 100$ virtual money that if you try removing that ridiculous quick disconnect on the terminal you might find that goes away completely. I’ve had nothing but trouble with those stupid things.
My GMC Sierra 2500 had a battery drain issue and I finally got a solar trickle charger, placed it on the dash, then park the truck facing south and now no problems. Worst part is, that if a battery goes dead too many times, it dies itself. It has not gone dead in years now, and latest batteries 3-4 years old, are still good. It takes two batteries and it was expensive changing them every 3 years like clockwork.
Computer re-initializing? Should only do once. Maybe start pulling fuse while watching that clamp meter. Will only get you into the ball park but may target the actual module that is being tricky.
Hi Scotty ! You don't have to disconnect the terminal for the quick battery disconnect device, all you need to do is to unscrew it so it does not conduct electricity. I know it because I am using it on my car in Hong Kong, all you need to do is lose up the green nob for bit, that's it.
Yup, hands free link module it is, happened on my 07 TL too I think 07-08 years were bad for that module my wife had same problem on her tsx is all the Acuras, everywhere I went they said it was my alternator but when I tested that alone it was fine, unplugged that module and til this day no problems

@@bigdawg1957zwhere is the Hands Free Connection located so that I can unplug it?
The last time I was this early Scotty still popped out of trunks to start his videos
He still does it - he just outgrew the need to film it....
@Cr6479 no u
he didn't pop out to start his videos, he did burnouts with his 13 second intros
I miss the trunk intro.
@@GlycerinZpp
4:18 pretty sure it is the hands free link.....that’s the typical culprit in Acuras
This Is always the issue with 3rd gen TL’s too.
Yep. Same on my MDX. Unplug and I bet the draw disappears. Have also read where people “bake” the HFL unit which helps “resolder” some of the joints. Never tried it tho...just got the aftermarket Bluetooth that connects to the XM aux in the back and it works great.
Yeah just disable Bluetooth in your phone when you leave the car....annoying but way easier than undoing battery Everytime
swissmrkc The issue isn’t the phone. It’s the module in the car.
What turbo? It's a Vtec engine the is NA
@@hammertime4257my 2008 rdx has a turbo …. Pretty sure they all do
I was a Acura tech for 29 years , the problem is in either in the a/c clutch relay or HFL module.
Try replacing the hands free link module or just take it out
Facts papi
The hands free link module is the Bluetooth you’re talking about right
Either replace or much more simply just disconnect the wire from the Bluetooth module (hands-free link) located by the rear vents inside the center console.
What year do you have?
@@marknalgas you Asked but no response!, after they said to ask me anything! 🙃
Which brand of VCM Disabler did you go with?
I heard there was a problem with torque converters, and it turned out to be a software update thing being misdiagnosed. Any info on this?
Couldn’t agree with you more about the second gen - I love mine. Proper maintenance rules the day. I love that 3.5 V6.
My 2015 RDX hasn’t put a foot wrong since I bought it in 2018. I got it with 50,000km on it and it has 230,000 now - timing belt went at 210,000 and thankfully I have a mechanic brother. The engine is flawless - will buy another.
SCOTTY this happened to my 05 TL. It ended up being the Bluetooth module by the rear view mirror. I'd bet that cars having the same problem
Yeah it is. This guy is an entertainer, not a mechanic. obviously failed to diagnose the most common issue on these Acuras. What a quack
I am a music enthusiast, however, I have immense admiration for you, Scotty. Your wealth of knowledge and insightful perspective is truly remarkable. I have watched numerous of your videos and I am grateful for your willingness to share them with us. Much love.
Easy...check the acura forums. Find out where the HFL module is located. Put your hand there. When they go bad, they get warm/hot
disconnect the bluetooth module, they have a search function that will not turn off.
Meter is on AC current setting, change to DC.
Be easy on him. Hes only been a mechanic for 74 years.
But he wanted to measure the air conditioning. ...
Will get odd readings if on AC when measuring DC. I have a clamp meter in my car that covers DC supply. Intermittant faults are a bloody nightmare to trace
Dan Lekin well done lol
dude, that meter has both AC and DC current reading ability on same setting. you can see both AC and DC symbol beside 2A.
This is old. There was a parasitic drain with the 07 to 08 models with the hands free module. No longer a problem.
It's the old style Bluetooth happens on the 3rd gen TL 1dt gen tsx basically any Acura in the mid 2004 through 2008 with the handsfree link Bluetooth not the ones after just disable the Bluetooth all g or upgrade the Bluetooth module aftermarket
True I bought a tl with the Bluetooth parasite drain and as soon as I removed it the battery worked
@@mgabbard the Bluetooth is gonna start doing the same malfunction it's a computer glitch just disable or upgrade it
That makes perfect sense.

Unplug the Bluetooth module. problem solved! Same thing happened to me and this fixed it.
My wife owns a’13 Acura RDX with technology package and AWD , still waiting for repairs, just MAINTENANCE by the book !!!
arturo j guzman We bought my wife the same car. Amazing car. Love it.
I had a 2015 RDX..excellent car...never had any problems.
How does one do that?
@elliotmiller2739 , Just open the center console, identify the HFL unit (a simple Google search will be helpful), then disconnect it. It worked so well for me as I am still using my 2009 Acura MDX to date, issue free. I love this car!
I have a 2007 Acura TL. Had same issue, all it was is the (HFL Hands free Link) I just disconnected it and never had the issue again. It’s located above the review mirror where the sun roof button is.Take apart and disconnect the computer module.
A good auto tech with 50 years experience would check the TSB’s..
This boy did not.
Try the Bluetooth module by the sunglasses holder. My grandmas Acura TL experienced the same thing and disconnecting that module fixed the problem.
Yes that is exactly what it is...
Same with Acura TL TYPE S SAME PROBLEM
The amp clamp was set to ac instead of DC.....
From the FLUKE website
How to measure current with a clamp accessory
Determine if the current to be measured is ac or dc.
Mechanic for over 40 years! doesn’t know hands free link is a common issue on Acuras
He just proved it here, on this video. Stop buying acuras. Otherwise it will cost....
Yeah. A GOOD mechanic would have diagnosed it properly
ricky sanchez as a person who’s owned 3 Acura’s, all going over 150K miles and still going. This is literally the most minor problem.
He could just go to an Acura forum and find many people complaining about it. Or as simply as googling it
Lol I said the same thing. Google is quicker than his scan tools lol.
Once he started, I fully expected Scotty to read voltages numbers out loud for the next ten minutes. Like okay, we get it. Lol. I love Scotty.
tech at Acura most likely its the HFL UNIT. Hands-free link to the Bluetooth you see a lot for TL
I had this problem with my Mercedes 500. I found out the radio was going on after I turned the car off. Money Pit ! I got rid of it.
Bluetooth system goes bad on the rl, tl, and mdx. Disconnect the little box or replace the box.
That Acura would drive me nuts Scotty.
My vote is also just disconnect the battery.
It’s just the Bluetooth built in. I took mine out of the TL problem solved
That’s just dumb having to do that everyday multiple times a day. It’s the Bluetooth module.
It’s the Bluetooth module in the center console that keeps trying to connect even while the car is off.
Disconnect the HFL unit ... older acura ..they fail all the time and drain the battery
Yup he was in the correct general area with his $5000 big OBD2 computer
Scotty you had an error in your current clamp usage. You have a current clamp that is able to measure True RMS AC or DC but according to the display it is on the AC setting and a car battery is definitely a DC source. I have never seen a current clamp used that way that didn't jump around.Try again but make sure you hit the select button and change it to DC. You will probably find the indication of power drain you were looking for. Good luck!
You can fix anything scotty. Dont give up on the turbo rdx
Wait, there's a turbo in the engine bay??? I missed it since I was focused on his incorrect way of using the quick disconnect knob
I was joking but it is a turbo model. Lol. Go to 2:23

I freaking love my Turbo RDX!!!!
Hey scotty, I finally purchased the 2007 acura rdx sport utility 4D. Bought for $5,800 at 130k miles on it. Ill be picking it up this friday.
Happens with the 3rd gen Acura TL as well. Handsfree link module is the culprit.
Funny - my service guy said freshen up (rough up) the battery posts and tighten the connection. Guess what? It worked.
Scotty loves us so much that he makes videos while it’s raining
Yes he does.♥️♥️♥️♥️
I had an ‘03 Tundra that did the same thing.
Boblib1970 what year was your MDX?
@@omzizo715 2009
Boblib1970 I have a 2016 I'm wondering if they corrected this issue or is this something I can look forward to!
The green knob is the battery disconnector. You do not have to remove the terminal - just turn the green knob one way or the other, on-off mode.
Lol yeah I'm shocked he didn't know that with all his years experience
On Honda’s it’s common for the A/C clutch relay to stick. Not sure on Acura’s. I also had an accord that had an after market Bluetooth that was shorting out causing battery drain
Scotty the head unit or the home link system is the problem Acura are notorious for this problem.
I have RDX 2013, zero issues. For sure going to buy another RDX in the future. So “RUN” yeah...to buy another one !
My 2015 RDX has been great.
My 2012 Mdx is good too
Scotty recommended the RDX in the best SUVs to buy... I’m guessing that’s the only one he’d ever recommend 🤣
My Rdx 2011 Has Been Awesome Also.... A Few Normal Issues Like Oil Change, Etc.... Nothing Major....

I had the same issue on a 2008 Acura and it is a known issue with the hands free system searching for a connection. Once I pulled the overhead light and disconnected it no more issues.
I had a 2007 MDX that was draining a battery over night, turned out to be the Bluetooth module, notorious problem on old MDX's.

Scotty seems to have seen it all. He's truly unique

Disconnect the dated Bluetooth module! It trips out and stays on trying to connect and drains the battery overnight.
2nd Gen Acura had a bad Bluetooth module which slowly drains battery. Happened to me as well. Just disconnect the module and was fine
This man is so knowledgeable I wish he was in my family
Your stepdad maybe
Your sancho..😂
Scotty, I would use a portable AM radio tuned to an open frequency above 1200kHz then I would hold the radio against various modules and listen for bus/cpu activity.
The module with the loudest buzz/hash noise could be the culprit.
Old school tactics, but how many of us have portable AM radios lately?
We love you Scotty!!!
its the hands free unplug it under center consol it wont drain no more i just changed samething happen a year ago
You remind me of my local independent mechanic for my old 1990 535i.

He does great on what NEEDS to be fixed to keep it all sorted.
This seems to be the perfect challenge for DiagnoseDan...
I was going to say the same thing. He'd sort it out for sure !
damn that dude is a car genius. I've seen cars problems repair themselves on their own when they heard diagnose dan is going to check on the car. thats how legendary diagnose dan is
Or Pine Hollow Diagnostics
yeah Scotty just showed his age just now he couldn't diagnose the most common issue on Acuras for the past 15 years.
Yep, hands free link...very common!
You can just unplug it.
How do you unplug it, from the fuse box? Same issue in my Acura TL
PROBLEM SOLVED Disconnect the Bluetooth module you don't need it
Computer re-initializing? Should only do once. Maybe start pulling fuse while watching that clamp meter.
Will only get you into the ball park but may target the actual module that is being tricky.
The second Acura video I watched shows the Bluetooth modules on these cars are problematic
Why can’t you just install a cut off switch inside so you don’t have too open the hood all the time
Would need extra wiring or heavy relay.
Yea
Shouldn't have to IMO..
Hi Scotty ! You don't have to disconnect the terminal for the quick battery disconnect device, all you need to do is to unscrew it so it does not conduct electricity. I know it because I am using it on my car in Hong Kong, all you need to do is lose up the green nob for bit, that's it.
Haha Scott's followers are in here within seconds. I just hollered. Having trouble with my MDX
*Scotty don't get that Gremlin Wet !!!* Maegui don't like,,, 😈😵😲
What's wrong with your MDX? What year?
Yup, hands free link module it is, happened on my 07 TL too I think 07-08 years were bad for that module my wife had same problem on her tsx is all the Acuras, everywhere I went they said it was my alternator but when I tested that alone it was fine, unplugged that module and til this day no problems
