I have an Acura MDX 2008 with 165K+ miles. Absolute reliable car. Yeah, the BT issue, I replaced the module when the problem was starting and got a brand new unit at a very reasonable price, Then, I modify the wiring to prevent the BT from being powered 24x7. With the mod, the BT module is only powered when the vehicle is in use. The new module is already over 8-yrs old and working as new. For the transmission, I have always used AMSOIL ATF, always smooth shifting and no noises.
Nice video I have a 2011 MDX (bought new) and at 170k miles. You're right, the oil did start burning and I have to put a quart in once a month. Other than that no major issues over 12yrs, great winter beater car and safe car for our teenagers to drive.
09 MDX owner here with 180,000 miles and here's the list of non-maintenance I've replaced (I perform the work on all my vehicles). -Replaced bank 1 catalytic converter (firewall side). The ECU wasn't throwing any codes because it was still working, but the baffles inside the converter worked themselves loose, and made noise. -Replaced upstream and downstream bank 1 catalytic converter oxygen sensors (ECU was throwing a code, and oxygen sensors should be replaced in pairs upper / lower). -Replaced J-pipe since the flex section rusted out. Replacement J pipe is a 304 stainless one from RV6 Performance which I highly recommend. -Replaced valve cover gasket on bank 2 (gasket was leaking and dripping oil onto the alternator). While replacing the gasket, I adjusted the valve clearances and replaced spark plug tube gaskets as well since the vale cover was already off. -Replaced A/C compressor at 178,000 miles (outer bearings went). Since the car had 178,000 miles, and the AC system was apart, I also replaced the evaporator, TXV, condenser, AC lines, dryer / desiccant element, radiator, radiator piping, and thermostat. None of these items had issues, but I wanted to be on the safe side. -Replaced front half shaft on passenger side (CV boot was leaking) Things I still need to do: -Replace all shocks (seals are no longer functioning properly and leaking). Overall, it's been a good vehicle to me, and knowing what I know now, I'd still buy it again despite the repair items listed above.
I would suggest servicing the rear dif, center, and trans regularly. Since it is an interference engine, definitely get the timing, water pump, valve adjustment and coils plugs changed out. I did that this summer and my MDX runs just as it did off the show room floor.
I own an 04, 07 and 08 MDX. Key take aways: 1) only put 91 or above octane, 2) follow the recommended service internals except the oil - replace oil/filter every 3k-4k especially over 200k mi on OD, 3) use honda oe grade txsm and dual pump fluid - all else what ever you want as long as meets spec, 4) MPG van be respectable on HWY but mind driving with care, 5) BT module is a common issue, 6) sport models with electronic shocks need down graded to OEM base.
Honestly, I bought a 2008 MDX and only after I bought it I began to hear and realize how bad the gas mileage is. It is really terrible for all who needs to know
@@josephrod1993 Yes, when I was buying I didn't do my research thoroughly. At the time I was just looking for either a toyota or honda made vehicle. So I saw it online the Mileage on the odometer was great (pretty low) for that year and it had the original owner. So I jump at the opportunity
I got a 2012 through work for my wife. Had 70k on it. Switched it to full synth and premium filter and change at 4k. No oil loss in that time frame. Now at 202k and all is good. A 3x3 for the trans helps. I do it every 50k. Only rack issues I’ve seen at work is people using non-Honda fluid.
One additional issue that seems to plague the 07 to 09 MDX is the roof leaking in the rear under the roof molding. I had the leak and after some research I realized I was not the only one. The leak occurs because they didn't seal the seam between the roof and the quarter panel with enough sealant and over time it shrinks and starts to leak down the inside rear of the car. Most people note it's only the drivers side but I had both sides leak on mine. The fix is pretty straight forward. Remove the molding and add more sealant to the seams. I used a rubberized spray sealant and it fixed the leak. This biggest issue it causes is, on the drivers side, it tends to leak onto the rear fuse block and and causes corrosion which then will start sending codes about the AWD system. Thanks for the other tips.
I love this car. I have a 2009 with 240000 miles on it. I used this car repeatedly until 2015. My only issue was the battery drain. With the first 6 months battery kept draining. The battery drain was due to the A/C relay being stuck on on. I think it blew the compressor. Replaced at the stealership. I search the net for reasons for battery drain and found it to be related to the Bluetooth thing in the mid hand rest. Disconnected it but for some reason my battery still drained. I have to note that sometime when I close the door while sitting in the car I can hear like an electrical arch through the radio. Still this is the best car I have. It grips the road like a panther. I drove 120 plus miles per day since 2010 to 2015 boy did I feel safe in that beast. I have had a Subaru with two transmission replacement and now highlander, but none could top this MDX
Good Afternoon. I have the same exact issue and have heard the same sound. Did you eventually get resolution? Just curious what you may have done/had done
I feel like carbon building/other engine issues can be resolved if the driver just drove the car a little harder. People like to baby the Honda Pilot/Acura MDX's but they don't realize that the J35/J37 is meant to be pushed.
That's a great point. There's an old saying that treating your engines like a baby will only make it run like a baby. My 2012 MDX has been great since I bought it new and it is never low on oil. Of course I change my oil and air filter regularly but I also 'air it out' regularly as well, usually on a nice long highway on-ramp in sport mode. I really believe it's helpful to rev any motor through it's RPM range from time to time to keep it working well.
2024 - I bought a 2011 MDX (Gen 2) +5 years ago, it is now at 340km - the oil ring thing is my biggest concern. While it does burn some oil, a 1L top up between changes is usually enough. Other high km issues aside, it is still a nice beast! We are gonna push for 400km, so long as Canadian carbon taxes don't get further out of hand!
Pin this please. #1 Very important to check the radiotor for leaks. It mixes trans fluid with the coolant and it's disaster waiting to happen. There are updated radiotors available. Should be #1 test to do when buying. #2 Elctrical gremlins with the door harness. Memory buttons not working. #3 mirror actuators start jerking. Either need to be lubed up or replaced. #4 mirrors getting ugly well know acura problem. #5 o ring on power steering making shining noise. #6 pcv valve replacement #7 elite/advanced models come with ads shocks. They go bad and are expensive to repair. Look into standard shocks conversion. #8 rearview camera is a joke look into upgrading.
For 2010-2013 MDXs see service bulletin 14-032. Rear side body plugs fall out and you get exhaust gas in the cabin!!! There is a RUclips video showing how to feel behind the side rear bumper on both sides to check for this. There was no recall so there were no notifications and you need to pay for the repair unless you have a relationship with a dealer.
Have a 2010 now with no oil issues but my 2008 did have it for a short time, I found if I drove intermittently hard on highway trips the issue disappeared. Like passing from 100 kms to 180 kms or just doing that if you have the skill or balls/eggs on good road conditions. also, use synthetic oil as I believe conventional oil is part of the issue. Drive fast, take chances. Love my MDX.
i have a 2012 mdx custom optioned it has all the fancy features dulux leather 3row with the better speakers with 175,000 miles it was originally bought by gucci mane in colorado while he taped lemonade it was sold to a close friend of his many years later who lost it in a liquidation auction the car has base sh awd badges and some smaller parts from the base models but is a total gem it definitely was a very very special vehicle acrua when it was ordered. when i got it the dealer shared the story of the car pictures of it bought new in the show room and it came with a gucci mane cd with songs u cant find on shaszam or anywhere ! aways be careful when buying w car with unknown history
Trick to better mpg. Use as high an octane as available and keep at max speed of 65 mph. Just yesterday I took my 2010 with 236k miles on a 160 mile trip and finished with 24.3 MPG. Typically 17 is what you’d expect in mixed driving.
2010 Acura MDX elite here. Try marvel mystery oil in your oil a couple times. I had a more than normal oil consumption but after putting in MMO a ran it for an 5,000km, oil level goes down very little now. 248,000km on it now. Had to replace the screen on v tec actuator (cleaned up the engine real good) though, which wasn't a tough job to do. I love this car!!
@@chizel55 how's that oil consumption issue going along? Did the mmo work? Some people mentioned that putting a little squirt inside the cylinders overnight help break down the carbon to free up the oil rings.
Have a 2013 MDX, bought it new. Just spent $2000 getting a bunch of the exterior seals replaced. Water was leaking into the interior, to the point that my carpets were soaked and there was heavy condensation on the inside of the windows Apparently the joints between metal panels is spot welded and some kind of resin is put between the panels to make it water tight. It failed in spectacular fashion and the water ingress was substantial. The mechanic who fixed it has a Honda Odyssey and he said his van did the same thing. He showed me the staining on the headliner and A-pillar, and around the rear hatch. Looks like Honda has some issues to sort out, I won't be buying another.
2010 MDX owner for 4 years now....agreed on the engine burning oil but I am also seeing the backup camera dying along with some major electric issues related to the sunroof drains cracking and that water getting into the rear fuse box and electronic modules under the rear floor deck, a real mess. Car still drives fine with 105k miles but cannot pass my state inspection because of all the wacky messages thrown out on the dashboard related to XM and other modules in the rear that may be water damaged. I did the timing belt and water pump at 95k miles. Oh, and the mpg is poor at around 16 so be aware of that going in on a used car.
Sport models had problems with the Active Damper System (ADS). Replacement struts are about $500 per corner, so be careful buying one of these. If you see a button on the center console behind the shifter that says 'Comfort' it is a Sport model.
2008 mdx 4dr elite package, had it since release been like 16 years. Held up beautifully no issues till now. 250k driven. Fuel consumption is crazy tho
We've had our 2011 since 2017. Only issue has been 1 bad fuel injector. Car does consume oil. I went in twice to the Acura dealership to do an oil consumption test, and each time the result came back as "acceptable" (about 1 quart every 1500 miles). That wasn't acceptable to me. I did some research and ended up running Liqui-Moly Engine Flush through the oil twice over a period of 3,000 miles. Oil came out black as ink. Oil consumption reduced dramatically after this (maybe 1 quart every 3000 miles now). I also now only use high-mileage oil and I change it every 3000 miles instead of the interval recommended by the trip computer. I am convinced most of the issues can be avoided with more frequent oil changes. Engine is high compression though so some oil consumption is not unusual. Otherwise they are excellent cars.
Minor update about 1 year later -- oil consumption appears to have slightly increased. Car has about 96,000 miles on it, very low for a 13-year-old vehicle. It's frustrating. Also, clear coat is peeling in a few areas. I had a 1991 Acura Legend that I sold in 2008 and no paint problems, no oil consumption -- with 160,000 miles on the odometer. We'll be selling our MDX before it hits 100,000, with full disclosure to the buyer about the oil consumption issue.
Thanks-a-ton for the info -- I just got a **FREE** 2007 ACURA MDX Tech, and need to go through it and get it ready for another 100,000 miles. Will run Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, 5-W-20, with a Bosch Premium Oil Filter # 3323. New genuine Honda PCV Valve # 17130-RYE- A01 going in right away -- must head off any "oil issues".
I have a 2010 Acura. The Maintenance has been on point and despite all the efforts, the car has been a money pit. Carbon build up, burning oil, catalytic converters, alternator. Something is always breaking. I would not advice anyone to get and MDX if you don’t have money to fix it.
hear you on the 2010, comments above but major electrical issues under rear hatch, XM module and other modules damaged by leaking/cracked sunroof drains. Backup camera shot as well and numerous error codes that cannot be cleared due to the water damage to all the rear modules. Ready to trade this in already but spent $$ on the timing belt and water pump.
Mines been a money pit too. 134k and replaced all fluids and now they recommend timing belt and adjusting the valves, it’s almost leaking oil . New spark plugs
@@wonderfact5224 Cruising is the best option, save gas. But depending on how you roll it can effect the gas , that's a big engine. You burn more oil and gas than your normal SUV.
This did happen to me and I just unplugged it, got a new battery. It’s been a great car! I have over 200k miles on it and I have been hard on it tbh. I have replaced starter, alternator and radiator that’s it, they were reasonable enough n price. I haven’t spent more than $1000 in repairs on it.
Just got one 2 days ago The Ford dealership a used 2012 base Acura MDX, over 100k miles, my excuse for getting is previous owner did great scheduling of maintenance under hood n interior the person took pride in the care, so I couldn’t resist always wanted to try a Acura, I have owned Hondas thru the years tho lol but nothing like this. Anyways the car does have a nice comfort to it, I dont mind the trade offs of exterior capabilities vs interior features that should be inside, such as doesn’t have usb ports, stereo touch screen and no auto lights, but do got that advanced SH- Awd, hitch, and I believe possibly a 300 hp or close enough if Im right. Great Channel/ New Subscriber
I appreciate it and I am glad you got a ride you are proud of. The MDX is really a great car and the trade offs do outweigh each other. Thanks for the support!
I have a 2008 with 195k on the dash and only had to replace the timing belt and water pump. You have to drive it hard every once in a while to keep the catalyst system clean. If you get a code for that system … fill it with 93 octane and drive the hell out of it . The code will clear
My wife has a 2010 Acura mdx and it has 267,000 miles right now and it does burn a little oil but I check it every week And they won’t do a oil consumption recall I forget the reason they said they wouldn’t do it but I just continue general maintenance and add oil when it’s lower … it don’t burn alot but maybe half qt or a little more every 2 weeks … been adding marvel mystery oil
Currently replacing a driveshaft which would be relatively easy, if you guys have symptoms of vibrations in the rear as well as in the steering wheel it could be a drive shaft. Vibrations occur starting at 40 mph and increase as your mph go up. My U-joints giving out I decided to go with a whole driveshaft assembly I’ll give you guys future updates
I bought my 2011 MDX 3 years ago with 138,000 miles. Noticed shortly after it was using oil @ a rate of 1Qt per 1000 miles. Yikes! Discovered this was a common problem for this generation but made some attempts to solve the issue. Changed pcv valve, nothing, used seafoam in the crankcase and gas, nothing. So I gave up for awhile till I was adding a Qt every third fill up or 600 miles. Hitting the web again I ran across Marvel Mystery Oil. Sounds interesting but still sceptical since seafoam didn’t phase it any. But the more I read about it and many old school mechanics swore by it, won’t hurt to try it. I was down a Quart at 5he time so I put a quart in crankcase and 8 Oz in the tank on each fill. And ran it for the last 1000 miles of my oil change. After that one time incident I am now at 3000 miles per Qt. I will definitely be treating my oil again with Marvel Mystery Oil and see if we get to no adding between oil changes. I am totally amazed. This stuff works.
Yes ... Rock Auto sells the Arnott Conversion Kit but you have to change all four corners ... at the tune of $925 which includes front struts, rear shocks and the electronic bypass module.
Got my 2012 acura back in late 2021 and it wasn’t cheap. It cost me about 10k with about 188k miles on the dash. I wasn’t mad at that at that time because I needed a 7 seat car but didn’t want a minivan. The car was amazing in its first year. I pretty much loved everything about it and although it’s not so good on gas and getting lots of miles but I loved it. However in summer 2022 I found out that the car was burning oil like an industrial factory. All I had to do was either change oil or refill it which lasted for about a 1000 miles or more. Also the fact that the car uses premium fuel is another pain in the ass but I don’t care no more. The car is now 218k miles and planning to keep it for another half a year hoping the engine doesn’t blow up for some reason. I love the car tho, it doesn’t drive like it used to but I still love it.
I'm at 290+, great little SUV, the oil consumption problem is the way Honda has their PCV System designed. There's not enough vacuum to pull the hot blowby gases away from the ring pack and it turns the oil to carbon sticking the rings and now you end up with oil consumption. I don't have the problem bc I used a 10W-30 Group IV syn and drove long distance so the small amount of vac worked. 10W-20 is too thin to do the job but the low vac is the main problem. It needs -1 to -2inHg and factory is only -.2 to -.6inH2O hot/idle. That's not enough to sweep fresh air into the crankcase and pull the blowby away form the rings. I've since changed mine and added a Catch Can. BTW, your engine isn't going to blow up, odds are slim to none.
My mdx changes is oil automatically, I just add oil every two weeks. You can actually see the oil coming out of the exhaust when you hit VTEC!!! Rain, it rains inside the MDX due to a mechanical flaw with drain hoses by roof. Power steering sounds like a mice. Alternator dies around 110k miles. OEM replacement brakes are garbage and nothing like original. Tail/trunk lift died around 100k miles. Laziest transmission!! Gas mileage-speedometer moves slower. Stay away from Acura/Honda they are trash now
Hi! I have the 2011 Acura MDX model, Yes It burns a lot of oil and rattle noise coming from the engine, also I ran into people who have the same problem with there 2011 Acura MDX model ?? if it wasn't because of these issues i would've given this SUV a 10+ rating
Well recap, 4/28/2022, I just replace the ignition coil packs, & spark plugs were really BAD!! DEFINITELY notice the difference AWESOME power so far, i will keep an eye on the burning oil. Thanks !!
Thanks for the update! I just bought a 2011 MDX sh-awd tech package. Still figuring out to see if it has the oil burning issue. I also see the check ADS error. Going to give it to a local mechanic. Will have to see what he might say. Apart from these issues, I like the car. Cornering is excellent on high speeds.
Great video doing my research because im about to buy a 2010 model and see what i need to look out for and what I have to check if something wrong with the vehicle
Now I know all the problems I have to look forward to with my 2010 that is at 188k. There is an oil leak at the oil filter adapter that I will replace the gasket next oil change and thought it was the oil issue. Now that I know these vehicles are known for burning oil it's probably that. But no PS leak, yet....
Burning oil problem just do oil change at 60 or 50% which is about 4000 miles that’s how it used to be anyways if wait until computer call for it, it’s about 10,000 miles.
You must not know Hondas. Oil burning is a issue with Hondas across the board the vtec system burns oil. My girlfriends 2010 MDX is coming up at 161k miles. No issues besides the ac compressor literally exploding. But that was covered under her gap insurance. So that saved us almost $4K. The entire system had to be replaced. I have a 04 V6 6MT TL type S swapped accord and a lifted 03 toyota tundra. And her MDX is the most reliable but iv kept it stock so that's probably why.07/14 MDX all have the 3.7L V6 and oil burning issues I use penzoil platinum and I haven't seen any issues with oil consumption
Hey Chris thanks alot for compiling all the Info around the MDX I can tell you must own one and are going about doing some repairs. Trust me I get it, it's exactly what I have been doing with mine for the last year. It's an 09 and was tracking the charging system errors. Just a quick question if you don't mind. Am I safe with the 09 about the oil burning issue. And does that specifically start in 2010 I just had mine I'm the acura shop and the mechanic said to me just to make sure mine wasn't burning oil and I should be in good shape. So now I'm trying to make sure I don't have this issue pop up on me. Thanks for any advise and thanks for taking the time to put this info together! Peace ✌️
Hey there! Thanks for stopping by. As far as I know, you should be good. A few tell tell signs of burning oil would be that the catalytic converter has been replaced under 200k miles, multiple fouled 02 sensors, and possible burn marks on the dip stick. Make sure there are maintenance records, especially if you are spending a good amount of money. Peace of mind is important.
@@AutoMotivate sure man no I think it looks good so far then... there are pretty much all of thr oil changes with the dealer then outside that. Doesn't seem to have much done to it as far as repairs and it wasn't beat up. So then so far so good. I have it back it working order. Again you're aware of this being an issue with the 2010 model correct?
Gas mileage is NOT THAT BAD. I have a 2012 and yes it’s not great compared to today’s standards. But let’s put this into perspective. It seems today’s MPG calculations/algorithms are different compared to 2012. You recall the VW MPG scandal? They’re not the only ones that over inflate MPG. Secondly yes it’s horrible when you’re driving city and your foot is heavy on the gas. On a well-maintained, smooth riding 2012 with 80,000 miles on it,I get about 13 to 16 city. But highway I can get up to 23. For a 300hp V6 heavy car, I don’t think that’s horrible. Power when you want it and It tows great. Aside its little problems, I love this suv. Thankfully I haven’t had any of the issues he’s mentioned here. Other ones yes, none mentioned here. The issues are minor compared to many newer cars. Like he says every car has their issues. I think this is the best balance of luxury price and dependability. We’re keeping it as a third car. If you can find a good one, I wouldn’t sweat these issues.
Thanks for this vedio. I just got a fairly used 07 Mdx. Am having issues with the temperature. It keeps rising and i can't seem to play anything on the C.d player it keeps rejecting and showing bad disc to all my CDs. Can't find any AUX input to be able to play music through my phone and that makes me so angry. The back seat 2nd roll cant roll forward to be ble to access the 3rd roll
My 2008 burns oil so that year is not free from that issue. It’s a gas hog and I unplugged the Bluetooth. Other than that great car over 200k. Just doing the timing maintenance maybe even ahead of schedule for good reasons.
Great info!. Do you have any idea how the cv axel and boots get worn? The Boot is leaking break fluid... seemed really strange, its hard to tell where the oil was leaking from. 2007-2009 mdx?
CV axles connects the wheel hub to the transmission. When the boots tear, which happens over time or if something punctures it, the grease from the boot can leak out and cause the joint to seize up. There shouldn't be any break fluid leaking, from my knowledge, If you are leaking brake fluid, that should be coming from the caliper, so check that.
My 2004 Acura MDX 4X4 is having trouble going in to gear I replaced the ABS wheel speed sensor on the front driver side and am still having the problem of it kicking out of gear and not moving in any gear can you please tell me how to fix this problem I would truly appreciate it Thank you Wendy
I have a chance to buy a 2008 MDX sport package with 71,000 miles or a 2013 Honda pilot with 109,000 miles and I’m stuck on which one I want. I always hear the cost to change out the adaptive dampeners and tires is equal to the cars value. Just want a simple reliable 4WD suv 😩😩 don’t know what to choose
I just found out that my 2010 MDX burns oil damn it I replaced the oil and filter month and half ago. The message came up on the gps saying check the oil level.
Great video bro. I have a 2012, with 74k. Really liking it so far, but definitely want to stay on top of the maintenance. I like working on cars anyways. There is a slight ticking(wouldn't call it tapping or knocking) , upon acceleration sometimes, but I cannot for the life of me get it to consistently happen. When it does happen tho, it seems like mostly always on acceleration from a stop. It's that "old truck motor" sound lol. But only sometimes. Gonna change the oil in the next few days and I'll report back. Think it could be any exhaust pieces?
Thank you! If the ticking is caused by the exhaust, it would typically get louder as the engine warms up. If the ticking is very inconsistent and not matching with the engine itself, it’s worth seeing if the accessories are causing the noise. Other than that, valves can tap due to poor lubrication from old/dirty oil. Tapping could also be caused from the chain. Many situations could cause it. Hopefully a clean oil change would help!
I recently bought one of these for my wife (2010 AWD SH), and when I drove it for the test drive I looked at her and said "you know this is getting a built trans and turbo this year right?!" She said "ok". That was the easiest Convo for an engine build in the 14 years I've been with her.
No transmission issue. That was with the 1st Gen 01-06 model years with the 5AT. The 07-09 with the 5AT and the 10-13 MDX (and the 3rd Gen 14-15 MDXs) transmission were pretty solid. The 16-17 MDXs with the 9AT had some quirky shifting issues that was later fixed with hardware and software upgrades. The 9AT was solid again for the 18-20 MDX. The Sport Hybrid 7DCT for the 17-20 model years is probably the best transmission for the entire model run. The only downside is you can't tow with the 7DCT.
@@mrgold3591 the 07-09 is pretty solid however it has torque converter issues and rough shift issues. mine only does it in winter if car has not warmed up. it was happening in warm weather before i got my fluid flushed. almost 40k later and its still fine
@@nikmacintosh1190 That just might be age related. My 5AT in my 06 TSX (+175,000 miles) and 5AT 08 RDX (+196,000 miles) had some occasional shifting issues; but, they fix themselves with fluid changes. Stuck with 6AT fluid changes every 30,000 miles with my 11 MDX 6AT and haven't had any issues with +155,000 miles.

I am thinking about purchasing a 2008 Acura MDX with 11,000 original miles from an estate. I don't know if the timing belt has been replaced. I read that they need to be replaced evry 100,000 miles or 6 years. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
My 09 X while driving the car sway to the right as I'm driving does anyone know why? I change my struts and got new tires did my Alignment and still didn't fix the problem.
It’s been 2W since question, but answer is yes premium gas, in the good side I own my 2011 since 2015 running on premium gas and no problems at all with engine or catalytic running like 1st day I drove it.
My 09 Acura MDX is 110640! The oil light has been ON for almost a 7 months! Now the Airbag light and SH-AWD light is ON now! How do I fix this problem’s?
Well… you should definitely check your cars oil and make sure it still has oil. Airbag light could simply be a lose plug or a bad module. The AWD light could be caused by multiple things
There's an 2009 MDX that I want to buy but the owner says that there is a noise coming coming from the lower side of the engine and that there is no code that comes up when being checked. Can you please tell me what it might be, it's seller for only 5k is it worth to buy and invest in it?

2008 Acura MDX, 184k miles. Only had to replace the alternator once, other than that just regular maintenance. Great car.
You still have it?
I'm about to buy an 08 with 144k miles for 9k but it's owned by the manager of the car lot. Do you think it's a good buy?
Did replace the timing belt?
@@dkmrap1Hello did you end up buying?
-Replaced front half shaft on passenger side (CV boot was leaking)
Things I still need to do:
-Replace all shocks (seals are no longer functioning properly and leaking).
Overall, it's been a good vehicle to me, and knowing what I know now, I'd still buy it again despite the repair items listed above.
Does the 2009 model have detachable backseats?
@@orlandoigno482 All of the seats (1st row, 2nd row, and 3rd row) in the MDX are bolted in. Remove the bolts, and you can remove the seats.

I have an o9 MDX and it has been a great vehicle for our family; 150k and rolling.
I will always own an Acura MDX.
I have a acura mdx 08 and I already reach 150K. I have a question: is there anything to watch for like maintenance when reaching this mileage?
The only thing bad about them is the freaking Gas Mileage
Honestly, I bought a 2008 MDX and only after I bought it I began to hear and realize how bad the gas mileage is. It is really terrible for all who needs to know
@@JAM2USA2018 yeah is a great suv but gas is terrible

I have a 2007,had battery drain,narrowed it down to navigation system,pulled dash,unplugged system,no more battery drain.👍
Absolutely, cant you seafoam it as well?
Those cars intended to be piece of s*** if you drive hard because they will feel apart. Not to mention the fuel mileage is garbage

I've had my 2010 MDX Advance for 12 years with NO issues.
Can I ask how often you replaced the timing belt in Canada

#1 Very important to check the radiotor for leaks. It mixes trans fluid with the coolant and it's disaster waiting to happen. There are updated radiotors available. Should be #1 test to do when buying.
#2 Elctrical gremlins with the door harness. Memory buttons not working.
#3 mirror actuators start jerking. Either need to be lubed up or replaced.
#4 mirrors getting ugly well know acura problem.

Clear, to the point and succinct. I wish all videos were like this. Thank you.
Oh, and the mpg is poor at around 16 so be aware of that going in on a used car.
did yu ever fix the oil burning issue or just topping it up?

Sport models had problems with the Active Damper System (ADS). Replacement struts are about $500 per corner, so be careful buying one of these. If you see a button on the center console behind the shifter that says 'Comfort' it is a Sport model.

How often have you replaced the timing belt?
Acura actually rebuilt my engine at 100k miles for this issue. There is a recall that fixes this. Took them 2 weeks…

Can you do a video about the front struts on the 2008 if there is any way to bypass the pigtail harnessed and put a regular strut on it

If it's the inside boot, specially on the passenger side, it's usually the transmission output shaft seal. They slowly seep fluid sometimes.
My 2004 Acura MDX 4X4 is having trouble going in to gear I replaced the ABS wheel speed sensor on the front driver side and am still having the problem of it kicking out of gear and not moving in any gear can you please tell me how to fix this problem I would truly appreciate it
Thank you
Wendy
@@AutoMotivate thanks dude! I'll be sure to sub
@Chris Tracz good idea. Thanks
Try subbing out 1quart Marvel Mystery Oil during oil change. Avoid cheap oil and Valvoline
I recently bought one of these for my wife (2010 AWD SH), and when I drove it for the test drive I looked at her and said "you know this is getting a built trans and turbo this year right?!"
She said "ok". That was the easiest Convo for an engine build in the 14 years I've been with her.
Please consider making a video about MDX model year 14 to 16 and 17 to 2021, thank you!
Some of those problems can be solved by washing the cylinders and the upper intake plenums and throttle bodies
I’ve heard there are often issues with the transmission on these 2010-2013 models.
20013 mdx goes aff while ideling check charging systems light comes on replace 3 alternator the problem remains botery one year old issue getting frustrated dealer said was the alternator 😢 problem problem
liked and subscribed - it was a no brainer
I am thinking about purchasing a 2008 Acura MDX with 11,000 original miles from an estate. I don't know if the timing belt has been replaced. I read that they need to be replaced evry 100,000 miles or 6 years. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
good information!!!
My 09 X while driving the car sway to the right as I'm driving does anyone know why? I change my struts and got new tires did my Alignment and still didn't fix the problem.
Have a 2011 mdx. 100000 miles. No issue. No burning oil. Drives like new still. Mpg not the greatest but who cares really.
Should I buy an MDX, or a Jeep Grand Cherokee L ? Please advise…
Found a 2013 mdx, but wondering if this car needs regular or premium gas? Thx for your reply
It’s been 2W since question, but answer is yes premium gas, in the good side I own my 2011 since 2015 running on premium gas and no problems at all with engine or catalytic running like 1st day I drove it.
So what in your opinion is the best year to get?
So im guessing you didnt watch the video?😂😂
07-09
Will this affect the ZDX as well? Since it was built the same years?
I have an 09 with what they call Xmas tree effect lights on. Check all fuses but still have the problem. Any help is appreciated.
Hopefully they fixed the junk transmission issue
Acura will to top ring job under warranty if it’s burning oil ! Still a great car
How do I fix the signal lights in the mirror on my 07 Acura mdx?
My 09 Acura MDX is 110640! The oil light has been ON for almost a 7 months! Now the Airbag light and SH-AWD light is ON now! How do I fix this problem’s?
Well… you should definitely check your cars oil and make sure it still has oil.
Airbag light could simply be a lose plug or a bad module.
The AWD light could be caused by multiple things
I have one of these but in golden green
What about all the electrical issues on 08 mdx
There's an 2009 MDX that I want to buy but the owner says that there is a noise coming coming from the lower side of the engine and that there is no code that comes up when being checked. Can you please tell me what it might be, it's seller for only 5k is it worth to buy and invest in it?
Is the noise internal or external? What does it sound like? When does the noise happen?
93 gas is a problem these days
The MDX is probably one of the most reliable luxury SUVs you can buy used affordably, so please do not let these issues deter you. Its really a great car. But, like all used cars, saving money and learning about the car is definitely a good idea.
Hope this helps yall out!

The 07-09 does not have this issue is a hige relief lol
Replacing the PCV valve helps from burning alot of oil…✌🏽
YES !! Get the GENUINE ACURA part !!
For the '07 - '09 MDX Tech, it's part number 17130 - RYE- A01 --
Accept NO SUBSTITUTES !!
Looking at a 2013 mdx this week what transmission problems do they have if any?
The transmission is great! Make sure to get it remapped.
My dealer did it completely complimentary; Under recall.
@@SURENITY can you explain that? The remapping?
The Navigation systems break and are very expensive to repair.
Hi, does the Acura MDX 2012 has folding mirror feature?
Manual fold only.
In the 2010 year the MDX actually did get some upgrades. Not the same as 07-09.
That's true -- but the '09 was A LOT more reliable than the '10-'14 models.
I really want to put one of these on bags
I would not be opposed.
