This car is very comfortable. I’ve taken it on several long trips and my back doesn’t hurt. If you’re going to be stuck in traffic, you might as well be comfortable. Love this car!
I bought a 2009 MDX for my son who needed a car badly. After searching for a while my brother said I should just buy his. So glad I did, i had some work that needed to be done before it passed emissions but its fixed now and I drove it for a couple of days. Safe and reliable is all I can say. So glad I did.
We have a 2009 that just passed 300k miles. A few thousand dollars of standard work, plus oil changes. Just replaced my spark plugs last month. Some of the electrical has gone wonky, and the suspension needs work, but it still runs good.
I have a 2008 (134k) and he is pretty spot on. I was looking to replace it mostly for the sake of change. After looking at specs and newer cars available there wasn’t anything that brought everything to the table like this Generation mdx.
Firts gen is a solid car! Aside from transmission issues in the beginning (a lot of Hondas were affected), it’s pretty much bulletproof. I know a guy whose mileage is about the same as yours. Can’t say it runs perfect, but it runs!
I just bought this car July 2018 2010 model and this car is amazing love everything on it is the best car I ever drive in 20 years of buying different cars I’m so excited.
I have a 11 MDX Adv+Ent since 2014 with +150,000 miles on her now. A joy to drive, very sporty, extremely comfy for all day driving, loves the open road, and very reliable for a +10 year old vehicle. MPGs can be very low for 100% city driving of 14-16 mpgs; but, can give you 20-22 mpg at 100% hwy speeds of 70-80 mph. I had issues with magnetic struts/shocks for Active Damper system and I burn around 1.5 qts per 9000 mile oil change interval (use full syn oil and top tier gas only). I added a 19 MDX Adv Sport Hybrid back in 2019; but, just couldn't trade-in the 11 MDX.
Just purchased 2008 Elite model with 195,000 kms. Love it for the ride and comfort. Feels more like our truck which is only 100 lbs heavier (Lexus LX450). Heavier on fuel than the RDX for sure. We also just purchased a 2007 RDX with Tech Pkg with only 127,000 kms for our kids. We did this because our 2011 RDX made it to 325,000 kms with no major issues other than to replace starter and a/c compressor.
I have a 2016 that the lease is coming up in May and I have decided to go back to the gen 2 models as I love the look of the gen 2. As well it have the 5 speed transmission which on the Gen 3 I can't stan the transmission as it seems it's always searching for the right gear. If your little handy a used Gen 2 will save you alot of money and still drive amazing, great looking and reliable suv. My opinion!
Thanks for sharing, Robert! I definitely prefer second gen over third for many reasons. Unfortunately the third gen has a major advantage over second in terms of the sound proofing. Double laminated windshield and front door windows as well as additional insulation in the doors and wheel wells works majic!

All of your videos are well produced and helpful. Thank you! For the second gen, it seems you imply that the 2007 MDX is not as desirable as 2008 and later. True? And if so, what are the disadvantages of 2007? I am shopping for these model years.
Hi Charlie. Thanks! TBH, I had no intention for this to sound like that at all. The only difference of the 2008 over 2007 that I know of is an auto dimming rearview mirror (which is nice, of course). However the 2009 model has an additional perk - power tailgate in US Tech and Sport models (even withouth entertainment package as it was in 2007-2008). What I would be weary is actually 2010+ cars as they are notorious for excessive oil consumption due to a bad engine upgrade design choice. Some cars have this problem (to a point Acura had to extend warranty and was replacing pistons and rings), but there is no way of knowing beforehand if a particular car has it unless the seller discloses it.
Thanks for the presentation, I love this Vehicle (Acra MDX) I am looking to purchase a used 2010 model. Any hints would be useful and appreciated. Thanks
It's a great car! My uncle had it for many years trouble free. I was actually looking at the first gen MDX as well, but decided to go for the second as the price difference between 2006 and 2008 was not that big.
Acura Addicted only problem for me right now is the backup camera isn’t working, there’s a cylinder misfires code popping up, and I need new O2 sensors. Other than that, it’s a great car. Drove for 3 hours (about 150 miles) and only had to fill once (from half to full)
Yikes! It doesn't sound good. Did you figure out the cause for the misfire? Could be a spark plug or a coil. As for the sensors, yes, that is unavoidable at some point.
Have you ever had an issue with the passenger seatbelt as far as the airbag is concerned? I have an issue with my 2005 front passenger side not recognizing when the male seatbelt clicks into the female receptacle. Causes the airbag light to come on. Also when that belt is disconnected when vehicle is on, the seatbelt light doesn’t come on either. Assuming sensor in female receptacle is malfunctioning or a bad wire under the seat. Your thoughts?
Acura Addicted thanks for getting back with me. I picked up a couple of passenger side female seatbelt harnesses from two discarded 2003 MDX’s that look to be in good shape for $7 total at a junk yard. Will let you know in next few weeks when I get time to work on my 2005 if they are compatible (should be since ‘03 and ‘05 are generation 1).
I see no sense in purchasing a three row crossover for one person, especially a student. Premium is expensive, definitely not for a student with a part time job. I would get a Civic or Corolla.
Amazing car, but don’t buy it expecting gas mileage. My 2008 has the gas mileage of a large v8 truck, and handbook calls for 91 octane. I have a 2008 highlander that literally uses half the gas as the Acura.
I have a 2012 elite 150k km on it. and it makes a clunking sound in the front when driving over certain bumps. I changed the sway bar links and it did not fix it. Dealer can’t find anything loose in the front suspension. Any ideas?
A number of things can cause this.: tie rods, tie rod ends, stabilizer bar bushings, etc. Not sure why a dealer is not able to diagnose the cause: all of these things are easily detected without even having to take your wheels off.
Possible. But again - also very easy to diagnose. The extended warranty for the 2010-2013 Elite is 7 years or 160K km, whichever comes first (service bulletin B-1-16), so you should be covered if the shocks are the issue. What dealer did you go to?
RL of the same year as MDX will be better equipped, quieter and has better technology. You are losing on seven seats at the same time, though. Tough choice. I actually want to add an RL and TL at some point.

Too expensive as far as I’m concerned, if you’re talking USD. But I guess it depends on condition. I just checked a 2007 with 150K miles that was listed for an equivalent of USD $4500 in Toronto. The car has no recent service records, has a badly painted front fender and bumper, paint scratched to hell (as in non restorable), broken rear camera, leaking oil pump, rear subframe and brakes rusted through and extremely neglected interior. That vehicle is not worth even $2000, as you would need at least $7-8K to get all the service done, including TB and pump resealing, brakes all around, new rear subframe and possibly other suspension components and a respray.
On KBB and Edmonds it has it listed as just under 8k so according to a bunch of websites its actually well under market value. This is the listing price too so I am sure I can get it prolly in the $5500 range so it's actually a pretty good deal according to these stats@@AcuraAddicted
How does the older MDX with the 3.7 V6 300HP/273TQ compare to the newer MDX with 3.5 V6 290HP/267TQ ? I’ve heard the newer one is more reliable and actually faster even though it makes slightly less power. Is that true?
It has been acknowledged by the manufacturer that the magnetic shocks go out prematurely. You might be entitled to warranty recall. What year do you have and what mileage?
Yes, 2008 is too old for the recall. Just observe for any clunks, etc. at this mileage the shocks have probably already been replaced. If not, when time comes, you can replace them with regular shocks that cost approximately 1/3 of the sport ones.
great thing. I bought it from a third party and I don't have an history of what has been done. I am thinking of oil + oil filter + air filter + transmission oil replacement for a healthy start with this car. Anything else you recommend?
I would do the same. Plus when you are doing the ATF change, do the transfer case oil change as well, Acura does it at the same time as ATF and it’s convenient since you are already doing the oil and ATF. There are videos on my channel on how to do that. It’s probably also a good idea to replace the rear diff fluid, but I haven’t filmed anything on that yet. Hi Wayne. Sorry to hear! Yes, 2010-2013 vehicles are affected by the oil burn. Acura has extended the warranty a lot for those vehicles, but it's long gone, so you're unfortunately out of luck.
