My Sweet Wife was just gifted a 2007 Acura MDX, with the 300-HP V-6 engine, and it only has 112,000 miles on the clock.
My job is to make it perform as good as new for another 10 years.
    Piece of cake !!

Watch out for transmission fluid mixing with the coolant in the radiator and power drain from the bluetooth module in the rear of the center console. Pretty solid vehicle that mostly requires scheduled maintenance.

      @@mrgold3591 Thanks for the heads-up !!
I may by-pass the radiator trans cooler and install the B&M stacked-plate type cooler that has worked so well on the famous 95 MERC for the last several years.
I read about the battery drain, so I unplugged the Bluetooth gizmo.

When they were comparing the ride quality, you also have to consider that the 2017 is obviously brand new while the 07' is 10 years old AND has almost 150k miles on it. Unless the suspension was replaced with new parts recently then not a fair comparison.

Love your videos guys. I just picked up a very clean 2007 MDX for winter duty and had a hard time believing it did 0-60 as slow as yours in your video as it felt much faster to me. So today I used my V-box and tested my 2007 that has 160k miles on the clock. I did three 0-60mph runs one after another and they were 7.58 seconds, 7.52 second and another 7.52 seconds so something was not right with the one you were testing. Just thought I would add that input. :)

m4N5L4y3R Interesting. I didn’t think it would make almost a 2 second difference 0-60. I figured more like 0.5 seconds. So in the video they ran 7.78 seconds in the newer one. Does that mean it would run 5.8 seconds 0-60 here at sea level? lol

I've actually owned both of those exact cars 2007, currently a 2017 with a 2011 with 130,000 miles thrown between them. You pretty much nailed it. Personally I think the 2011 was their best model because it was mated to the 6 speed not the 5 or the 9. But I actually get 29 mpg with the 2017 when on the hwy when three cylinders are idle. So that's the show stopper. All amazing trucks

As the proud owner of a 2008 MDX, i truly appreciated this video. I have absolutely loved this vehicle and still find it fun to drive after 140k miles. in fact, i bought a 2009 MDX last year for one daughter and am giving the other one mine this fall. Which brings me to my question: Do you ever create pieces that give your suggestions for cars for teens, older parents, etc? A mash up of used SUV's you rec for teens would be interesting.

I have a 2017 MDX as a loaner right now. I have an 08 model, but here is where I like the old over the new:
    1. Once I got in, I could tell that the 17 is less spacious than the old.
    2. The visibility is less due to the huge headrest Acura decided to put in.
    3. Worthless computer technology - if you drift off into the next lane, the steering brings you back center, but drifts you back over again. Very weird!
    4. The whole center touchscreen is boring. Only blue, black & white colors & you have to control EVERYTHING mostly in the center screen. You have to lean in now to control it instead of the older models coming with the closer dials to your body.
    5. Seats are nice, but it feels like their less plush.
    6. I'm not a fan of the push button transmission. I wonder how much it'll cost to get THAT fixed!
    7. Everything seems more computerized. Appears to be that Acura will be the ONLY place that you could go to repairs for.
    8. The outer body looks beautiful, but I feel like Acura put more hard work into the older models perfectly.

Thank you for doing this, guys. I've never owned an Acura. As a (lifetime) college student all I could ever afford was a used Honda Civic (I've owned three), and I've always loved their integrity, longevity and reliability (very important things when you live like a college student). Having experienced nothing but goodness from Honda, I've always dreamed of owning an Acura some day. Particularly the TL or the MDX (I know, two completely different sections of the car industry), but I've always looked at the older models just, in my opinion, looking better, and having that sporty and fun attitude that characterized Acura. I feel they've lost that somewhere, for example, the moment they dropped TL to make a TLX. It is just too plain. Maybe not vanilla plain, but it's like French vanilla; still ordinary, but you could argue it's better.
Can you guys do a TLX vs TL video, please?

    Hv a 2007 MDX
    1. It’s heavy, so feels little uneasy to maneuver especially during turns
    2. Maintainance cost is higher especially the shocks if you own Sports model ($850 a shock 😬)
    3. The front grille color film coating tends to wear out, which worsens the look.
    4. You wont get more than 13 MPG in a city
But it is a class and definitely a luxurious car, a notch above similar cars during that era...

Zachary Strain absolutely zero!!! The only issue I had was the magnetic shocks, which I paid for replacing but now Acura sent a letter that they will reimburse you if under 100k miles or so? So my wife still loves driving it I'm just gonna keep putting off replacing with a used 2017 eventually! I buy them two years old certified will he 40k or less by then - great vehicle overall. I'm thinking about selling my 2011 high maintmence 335 for a 2014 TL shawd too- great oversll sport sedan even if not as fast as competitors -rock solid reliability

My family had both the 2010 and 2015 MDX. I liked the 2010 way better. Had the J37 Engine (3.7 L V6) and 300 HP. Styling was aggressive and good looking, with prominent exhausts.
They kinda pussified the 3rd gen MDX. Softer, blobbier, and 10 less horsepower with a smaller engine (3.5 L). Plus they hid the exhaust pipes.

yall should've compared the 2010-13 to the 17 considering that was the better version of the second gen, and having owned a 11 mdx I also drove the newer one (I think it was a 14 or 15) the older ones have a more sure footed drive and felt bigger inside compared to the new techy ones but that's just my opinion

I have a 2008 MDX and love it! I think the lack of panoramic sunroof is due to their rear seat entertainment system, when optioned, being on the roof instead of in the headrests or center console.

The new ZF 9spd transmission is a no go. We owned a vehicle with it. Never again. Look at the new upper trim Honda Pilot or Jeep Cherokee. The transmission is a common complaint. The older Acura is easily the better buy.

Lol, I like how he complained about not having a shifter...unless it's a true manual transmission you don't need a shifter. I grew up on manual transmissions and I am definitely okay with the shifter being out of the way. I have a feeling traditional shifters will be gone before too long. I guess the moral of this video is, don't have two people with old school mindsets without the ability to learn new things test new tech lol.

We have an '07 MDX, thing is a tank with about 164,000 miles and very few issues. It's getting to be a bit old now and is starting to develops issues ( we've stopped taking it on long trips after it broke down 108 miles from home ). But it's still a daily driver and is still going strong. Hoping to get another MDX as our next SUV.

We bought the '17 model. Push button takes a day to get used to but then you wonder why other cars still use the ancient lever to move. Also sport mode plus changing dynamic control to sport and the steering firms up and you can flip off shifts with the paddles. We've used it for 7 passenger as well as big cargo - ride is very comfortable and it does everything you need. The lower screen does suffer from some sun glare, depending on position of sun.

  • @Reno2324

I have no idea why a lot of reviewers don't like the push button transmission. I have a 2017 Mdx elite awd in Canada. Just love it... its so simple to use, frees a lot of space and looks high tech. I love the dual screens too. The way I've come down to understand this is that maybe it needs to be driven everyday for it to be appreciated, which is not the case with car reviewers. It's been 2 months now since I bought mine and I love it every time I get to drive it. Now another thing to mention is maybe I'm wrong since I own a 2010 Dodge Ram 3500 Cummins Turbodiesel that have been driving since 2013 (and still do, due to type of work) and I have no idea how a luxury SUV(CUV) is suppose to feel.

As a owner of 2 MDX's (2014 & 2016), LOL why hate on the push button transmission? None of today's modern SUV's/Crossover's even have a gear lever which is mechanically connected to the transmission. It's literally drive by wire now, from a manufacturing standpoint having a "pseudo" gear lever is a waste of money. "Manual" shifting isn't even being done by the gear lever its all in the paddle shifters. No gear lever gives us owners more space and cleaner look.

Identical to the ones in Captain America! But even more epic!
    I named him ONYX
11 years, and half my life of dreaming, it is even better that I could ever imagine!
Doing some epic modifications and custom work in the coming years!
I’ve done a few awesome ones 6 months in.
Completely restored the interior and exterior, including the rust!
And put around 300 hours of hard work into the truck!
I did the best that I could with my tools and a low college student budget.
I don’t own many tools, because I have nowhere to store them.
I had mechanically refurbished the engine, transmission, catalytic converter, power steering, and more to list.
    I baby the truck!
I will insure will last it until I am 30.
But life happens, and nothing is guaranteed.
I learned that with my beloved old 2004 MDX Tech. (Maximus).
    A computer virus from a 2006 navigation system(Trojan horse)
very very unfortunately killed all of the computing units! It killed Maximus.
    I cried privately for weeks!

Over 500 hours of repairs work and hot rodding!
    That truck was my life!
I loved Maximus more than any (romantic) relationship that I’ve been in through my youth.

Rdx & mdx are very reliable suv's just change ur fluids & MOST IMPORTANTLY CHANGE UR TIMING BELTS!!! VERY VERY IMPORTANT MDX & RDX OWNERS!! INTERFERENCE ENGINES!! IF TIMING BELT BREAKS SERIOUS ENGINE DAMAGE!! CHANGE EVERY 50-70K MILES

  • @jasonm3871

I like them both, but would gladly take the '07 (around $10k) over the '17 (starting msrp around $45k).
I could easily get another 100k out of the '07, then probably still be able to get $4k-$5k for it.
100k+ mile Acuras tend to be very good values (assuming you find a good one). My gf and I both drive them (TSX and RDX), and love them (with very little spent). In fact, you'd never know their age by looking.
That said, I recommend that everyone else buy the new model.......I'll want a good selection to choose from in 10 years!

I have had two MDX vehicles...both had motor mount failures and transmission issues. The 2011 MDX had to have its head replaced. There was oil in the radiator...the replaced the seal, then when it didn't work, they retooled the head, that didn't work so they put a new head in the car after only 65K miles. Never towed anything. Responsibly driven and well cared for. I don't think I will ever buy one again.
