Just bought a 2007 MDX and I love this SUV. My Dad had a 2002 RL 3.5 and ever since I’ve wanted an Acura. I have a family and I think this car will be perfect
Don't forget to check the front floor pans for water leaks. These cars ar notorious for moon roof drain hoses pluging and A-pillars filled with foam that leak into vehicle
Don't get one. The ADS suspension fails on every single vehicle and it costs 3-5000$ to replace. The 3.7L engine has known oil consumption issues and also requires an engine overhaul that costs $5-7000, and even then it can still burn oil. If you don't believe me please google the above.
I am a used car dealer for 20 years and I can tell you when he says mother of all used luxury SUV, he knows what he is talking about. I tried Lexus, Audi, BMW and more and nothing is overall as great as the MDX is. The only thing older MDXs were not reliable for was Transmission and that issue may still linger on and the next thing you might wanna keep an eye on is Struts/Shocks. I really wish Acura could put the same sensibility in its sedans specially the flagship one . RL/RLX
Emeka Iheanacho Yup, same here. The struts/shocks on mine are leaking, and the "Check ADS System" keeps lighting up on my MDX. Getting them fix soon 😔💸
Emeka Iheanacho Hey! I had the same problem. There is a "warranty extension" going on with those. If you paid to have them fixed before 100k miles they will reimburse you. Or so they say in the mailer. Get to an Acura dealer!
Mikey A Hey I'll tell you like the guy above- Acura is extending the warranty to 7 years or 100k miles. At least I'm the "cold weather climates" as my letter from Acura stated. Better look into this. It could save you $4000.

I'll chime in here and say AVOID the advance model. I had it, and the shocks were shit. They were documented as bad at 92k miles. Then after I hit 103k miles acura sends a letter saying "we'll fix the active dampers if they go bad before 100k miles. They wouldn't make good on it for me, despite documentation by an Acura service center saying they're bad. So I traded it in. Went back so Nissan (Infiniti) and am happy. Acura has been making this shock situation reimbursement a hassle for others too.
You end up getting one yet? I just picked up a 2011 MDX Advance w/ RES. It was a one owner in really good condition inside and out. I use to have a 2008 MDX Sport w/ RES but traded it in a couple of years ago. I still miss it so I ended up picking it up again, that's how much I love the 2nd gen model! The revised 2010+ are the models to get tho as they look so much better inside and out. Good luck if you're still trying to look for one.

The previous owners have registered it as "Black", but it is White with tan interior. Is this a red light? I'm currently in an '09 VW Tiguan which I've invested THOUSANDS into and it's at 225K miles and the power steering went out on Monday. I don't want another pricey car to fix, but I love used SUV's and I like the look of the MDX. I've asked owners if they like them and the usual answer is "Yes!". Any advice on what I should be looking at?
no offense but this is a laypersons guide that would apply to almost any four wheel drive vehicle with a timing belt. I was hoping for a mechanic's take on common failure points. So yea, make sure if you buy ANY car with a timing belt you make sure it is changed on time. BTW 'a couple hundred dollars' for a timing belt is unrealistic. On an MDX its about 700-900 dollars as you will change the tensioners, idle pully and water pump when you change the belt. Its not the easiest vehicle for DIY'ers luckily there are plenty of Honda mechanics so you can get the labor at a competitive price. MDX buyers should also be aware of the oil consumption extended warranty and the recall on the fuel pump float.
I am thinking between acuramdx 2008 and volvo xc90 2008. Both are 150000 miles long. Mdx is a transmission concern, and xc90 is a timing chain concern. I'm going to ride it for about 5 years. Please recommend it. For your information, I am your Korean fan.

First and foremost, THANK YOU very much for this list. It help me purchase my 2010 MDX! Which i totally love!! Took me an hour before I even got in to drive the MDX I bought. I tested many. Everything cleared. I don't drive it much but recently felt a slight knock into 1st gear. Now I'm worried. What are your thoughts?
"Budget a couple of hundred extra bucks to have it done", LOL. The labour on TB for the MDX alone even at a no-name mechanic is around $400-500. The kit will be extra $250-300. Otherwise good video.
I have an 03 and it’s not very good. Burns oil and gas excessively heated seats were repaired and failed shortly after and everything you go to fix is at least 5 times as expensive as other common vehicles
#2 expensive Xenon lights ? not event close. Paid $17 (even OEM Osram are $70) on amazon to replace my HID Xenon (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M4LR83A) when they dimmed so bad I could barely see one winter storm driving and one eventually died (should have done sooner). Been a year and no problem.

#5 is an easily overlooked item
Also avoid tech packages with ADS suspension, they are very costly to replace, no after market and each shock will run you around $1300 piece, more expensive than my Mercedes GL
Otherwise good video.
what fuel type does it used year 2012 plus?
I’m looking to get a MDX.
Thank you lots Justin.
I have an 03 and it’s not very good. Burns oil and gas excessively heated seats were repaired and failed shortly after and everything you go to fix is at least 5 times as expensive as other common vehicles
SUPER useful!! Thanks!
Thanks for posting
Sure seems like a lot of those have a battery drain problem with the BlueTooth units.
check the steering rack too. they like to leak and cost around 1000 dollars to fix
David Gonzalez how do you go about checking it?
Hi Justin,
Looking to purchase a 2015+ generation FWD MDX. Any advice on what to look for? This video was highly informative thank you!
