Having had an occasional 7 seater, it can be really practical if you have 3 kids. If you need to give anyone else a lift, you can take 6 or 7. The EQB looks like the back row is usable, whereas the Model Y really isn’t
I've owned by EQB 350 AMG Premium (looks like you have the same) since end of November 2022. I've done over 6,500 miles now and it is definitely comfortable. I honestly want to like it as it is very refined and comfortable and soaks up the miles very nicely. It's very much under the radar and has a decent range for the size of battery and overall weight and is honestly fantastic in almost every respect. But it hasn't been reliable and Mercedes have been absolutely awful in resolving the issues. It has leaked coolant since day one and requires regular top ups, but Mercedes refuse to believe it has a leak. Instead, they're apparently aware of an issue with coolant moving between a high-pressure and low-pressure system (I'm told it has two coolant systems), so it isn't "losing" coolant. This is of course despite the fact it has needed filling up multiple times. But Mercedes are aware of the "not coolant leak", and will let me know when they have a fix -- its a known issue they are investigating, I'm told. The second issue is it has twice let me down first thing in the morning and would not start. In Mercedes' defence, I believe a temperature sensor was at fault and since being replaced it has been flawless in that respect. Suppose it wasn't for the absolutely awful customer service from both the dealer and the manufacturer. In that case, I'd probably buy another one, but as it stands, I'm now in a position where it can be returned without penalty. I've ordered a Tesla Model Y. Who knows if that will be any better but I certainly won't ever be buying another Mercedes again. Sad really.
These things happen. I had a new Ioniq 5 with persistant 12v battery and alarm problems. Service had no idea how to fix it, since it was a brand new model. Got shot of it and now drive a Model 3. It has been faultless and if it does go wrong I'm happy in the knowledge that there are 100,000's out there so most faults should haver been picked up and dealt with quickly. Looking now to trade up to a Model Y. You will love the Tesla supercharger network!
Thanks for posting! I Beg you please report your findings on the model Y ! Oh and do give consideration to getting the performance model with white seats! 👍🏻
@@flashback9966 initially the commonplace sight of the Tesla was an off putting aspect but like you’ve said, I’m genuinely now seeing it as a positive thing. One of whom let me use their Model Y LR for a bit one weekend and I must confess, the Supercharger experience was bloody wonderful! The experience is how it should be for EVERY EV! Had a Mercedes B Class with the Led performance headlights same styling as the EQB without auto high beam. First world problem I know but the beam pattern was set very low on dipped beam which Merc said was normal and couldn't be adjusted but the cut off was so sharp that on dark roads I found them quite ineffective without needed to use high beam a lot of the time. The Model Y gets criticised for its lights (and rightly so for its lack of Matrix functions) however in dipped beam when set correctly they are way better than the Mercs were. Still liked the Merc though and would have another.
That’s odd as on my car scheme the Model Y LR is £30 cheaper. For range/performance it’s more comparable to the Model Y SR which is £130 cheaper. However as there’s no 7 seater Model Y it’s not really a good comparison. I like the Merc but wouldn’t have it at these prices with that small a range.
@@ISuperTed - Tesla cars are expensive on our Tusker scheme, I put this down to higher insurance related costs. I’ve test driven both and went for the EQB. I know Tesla got the infotainment screen etc but apart from that it offers very little for me. it’s very uncomfortable to drive. Steering is stiff even in the lightest mode, it’s noisy and I think the suspension isn’t very good.
Exactly the same experience, I got the tesla Y as a company car for 6 months. Hated the driving experience, harsh suspension and the steering wheel awfully hard, even got chronic thumb pain from it... Switching now company im gonna get the EQB, seem so much better
Interestingly I noticed that the financing on the EQB is less attractive than the Tesla Model Y. Whilst the Mercedes is attractive, I think that the Model Y will hold its value better.
Hi sir brilliant reviews . Very helpful seeming this I bought 2023 EQB . Now one question I found while reversing it has automatic brakes applied to it but could not feel brakes for front side … does this machines stops automatically if brakes not applied for front obstacle
The EQB is my style as I like boxy cars and I want bells and whistles. However, the minimalist and fairly plain Model Y can be had for under $50,000 here in the US so the tesla with it’s charging network, greater horsepower and range for less money would have to be my choice. My guess is that the EQB will not hold it’s value and I’d be able to pick on up used for a lot less if they make and sell a lot of them, which I think they won’t. Tesla is also making a lot of the Model Y’s and with the simplicity of the design I’d hope they’d be pretty good at making them by now. I’m not really a Tesla fan, but the more I learn the more I get the impression that Elon won’t destroy them any time soon. I think their Cybertruck is a huge mistake that is distracting them and instead of getting yet farther ahead of the competition they are allowing them to catch up. But its going to take a while as Tesla only makes electric cars but the OEM’s have to make an expensive transition.
Thats the biggest selling point, sure a car company can make a nicer feature car....but what about everything else that goes with it, then how to fix it etc. these autos IMO are so far behind it will be tough

Being a Merc it will require expensive needless scheduled service and random very expensive repairs that can only be done at a dealer using stupid expensive parts and fluids that fail more rapidly than parts store brands. I expect these will drop in value very rapidly. These will be a decent buy if you skip the first three years of production and buy one that's two or three years old. I would pickup the extended warranty. Probably great for around town, but until Merc builds their own cross country charging network, a road trip would be a charging nightmare. I need three or four phone apps to plan a trip out of town with my Merc EV. My Tesla plans the trip for me with the zero cost super chargers in the navigation.

The back seats in the Mercedes are better than the ones in Tesla the same way water enema is better than Tabasco enema.
Mercedes has massively down played the 0-60 of 6.1 seconds. I test driven an ipace before getting the merc, and was VERY surprised that it felt exactly the same acceleration wise vs the ipace. Since then i've raced a couple of ipace's with nothing in it between them and a chap on one of the eqb groups on FB confirmed his EQB 350 was doing 0-60 in 4.8s with timing hardware, which is the same as the ipace and the model y. I mostly drive with a bit of spirt as i get free charging at home and i enjoy it. But on a couple of steady runs (down to stansted and isle of wight from wales) i've had pretty much the spot on claimed range of 252 miles, and that's with 5 people and a full boot of suitcases. Overall the car is great, certainly the best ive ever had. But i cant help feeling like it is a little low quality for the relatively hefty price (over £60k in 350 premium trim). I'd have preferred the quality i felt in the jag for the price, but i guess you can't have it all.
@FrunkensteinVonZipperneck sit in top spec eqb and then sit in a top spec ipace, you'll understand what I mean. Not saying ipace is a fantastic car or anything, it's really not. But it's interior quality is a lot better than the mercs
Currently driving CLA and otherwise very happy with Merc. I would want to go for the EQB but you cant have it with a tow bar here in Belgium. That's the deal breaker for me. Mainly to have a bike rack on it.
now factor in the cost! Lol Im buying range rover all day. NOW throw tesla into the mix and it crushes these specs. I don't see how these autos can pivot from ICE to EV without raising so much money and where is the talent coming from?
@@NeryAs3 unfortunately not on the EQE, but the EQS has a 7 seat option. The price will be a bit more of course, but it's a fantastic vehicle. I have an EQS and friends who own the SUV - they love it.
Does look like a nice interior and packaging BUT it’s a £60k+ car (no Merc is bought without options!) that only has a real world range of about 200 miles. Couldn’t justify getting one on that basis and frighteningly it’s the cheapest 7-seater EV out there currently (not including the van derived ones). I’d wait for a 7 seat option on the Model Y SR but who knows if and when that will arrive (if ever).
The EQB is a good size and should be considered a 5+2. After a test drive im impressed, but the car is compromised for the price with only 100kW charging, a raised floor making the middle seat passengers with the knees higher than their hips and the £60k price tag (although year old ones can be had for £45k), but that makes it similar to a used 7 seat Model X which im test driving tomorrow, although they feel too wide for UK roads. The eBerlingo vans have been ruled out due to low battery capacity/low real world range, although you get sliding rear doors, seven individual seats, but budget build and compromises are met with a £30k pricetage but a long lead time for a new one.
A video about time schedule charging / off peak would be great. I had a Merc EQA reserved until i discovered you can not set it to charge overnight for off peak only. How many other EVs are the same.
Speaking of under the radar EVs: I'd love for you to test the BMW iX3. I had no idea that car existed for the longest time and initially didn't see the appeal, as it sits on a shared platform and comes with the associated compromises. Compared to a well specced Q4 however, it suddenly starts to look pretty good - more luxurios, decent space and surprisingly efficient.
I drive an ix3 and its a lovely big car. My only gripe is the range, I don't think I get anywhere near the 280 wltp. It also feels lacking in some features and tech.
over 60k GBP is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much for Merc's entry-level models (that means the A- and B-series, to which the GLB/EQB belongs). over 60k is C-Class and 3-series money, which is a big step up in size and prestige.
Richard thank you for posting, although not all bad news for the Combustion Engine:- The RAC sent a shockwave through the EV community when their experts recently compared the running costs of diesel cars with electric cars. It turns out that filling up a diesel family car with a 55-litre tank to travel 484 miles costs £96.68. The equivalent for an EV driver using a fast charger is only marginally cheaper at £92.69
@@FrunkensteinVonZipperneckAgreed. Were EVs introduced to make motoring cheaper or to help slow or reverse climate change? However for those who can charge at home or work it’s a lot cheaper to charge and there are lots of deals around to get cheaper charging when out and about or if you can’t charge anywhere else.
@@ContraVsGigi Big EV's suffer with efficiency so I guess Mercedes have made the car smaller but pushed the road wheels out to give more room inside. The Merc is most probably the cost effective alternative to the Tesla model X.
Personally, talking about two vehicles in a video but only show and compliment the Mercedes is very odd and it appears bias toward one. Many people who did not watch your Model Y review will not know which one is best. Just something to consider.
Neither of the rear seats are designed for adults, they're designed for kids. By far their most likely usage is a car for the family, the vast majority of which consist of 2 parents and maybe 2 kids. The kids use the middle seats unless there are more adults, like grandparent etc. Expecting the rear seats to accommodate adults is an unrealistic expectation, the Merc and the Y are aimed, very specifically, at the majority of the market.
I’d definitely go for a 7-seater 2017 Model X instead of this Mercedes. Much cheaper, better range, and the Supercharging network. Sure, it’s an older car, but it still feels modern because of Tesla’s software updates. I’d be curious to see a comparison of the space inside though.
The EQB's tech is basically Tesla circa 2018. The EQB's interior is tacky, its exterior is underwhelming. For the money, it's a rather poor buy compared to the Y overall.
@emotionair1882 Some people are easily entertained, and I guess the EQ.B's color changing light rope everywhere caters to them. Set it to pulse with your beats..
@emotionair1882 Nope, it has a certain connotation where I live. My girlfriend's mom has an EQS the interior of which I find tacky as hell, and the EQB's interior is like an Ionic crossed with a Fiat. Just not as cute. Tesla has a clean design, but I guess some people don't get it.
You only appreciate the dimensions. But in fact you don't draw attention to the most important thing. Tesla has the infrastructure and you can rely on it for trips of 2000-3000km. The Mercedes doesn't have the infrastructure, and more than 300km, I can't move you safely. The last seats in the Tesla are for children, not for adults. The comparison is bad.
I recently went from diesel to BEV and drive from Essex to Chesterfield regularly. I have gone from £150 to £200/mth in diesel to £50 to £70/mth in electric. 200 miles is not shite.... its practical. If you need 400 miles three times per week your a rare driver as not many do 60,000 miles per year. What was shite was diesel and 3 services per year. My first BEV service is early 2025.
@@RSEV you say that but I live in Wales and work in Liege so I travel every week in my Merc it takes me six and a half hours to get to work I have a 30 minute rest on the Euro tunnel train. My wife wanted a EV so I bought her a M3P in Sept 2019 I’ve taken it over to Liege a couple of times and my journey increases to over twelve hours and now with the price of supercharging at £0.67 it even costs more to use than the Merc diesel so now the Tesla is just used for Tesco and local journeys I know people don’t like to hear that but it’s true EV vehicles are useless for long journeys of course some people don’t mind doubling or tripling their journey time if they think they might save 50p
Sorry I forgot to say that if you try to go fast in the Tesla to bring the time down it actually takes longer because the range goes down so fast it beggars belief
In the past you had good range with an economy car and a luxury car, but now with EV’s you can have an economy car that has good range and a luxury car that doesn’t. So I think someone who wants and electric car, might be willing to go for something less premium if it gives them the luxury of practicality. There’s not a huge number of cars to choose from in a 7 seater and a Tesla has good range, horsepower and storage. I don’t think I’m ready for a minimalist vehicle like Tesla as I want more bells and whistles, but I can see the point in comparing these two cars. So I agree that there are premium things about the Mercedes and I really like the looks inside and out but in terms of performance, it’s not really premium. For the price it needs a bigger battery to make up for the lack of efficiency.
The Mercedes has budget charging, budget performance, budget efficiency, budget app technology, budget battery management etc. Agree it's arguably more premium in some other metrics, but you need to consider what is important to you in an EV and for me, most of the above are important.
After driving both, I can say the EQB wins everytime. I was quite surprised how good the EQB is.
Having had an occasional 7 seater, it can be really practical if you have 3 kids. If you need to give anyone else a lift, you can take 6 or 7. The EQB looks like the back row is usable, whereas the Model Y really isn’t

Overall the car is great, certainly the best ive ever had. But i cant help feeling like it is a little low quality for the relatively hefty price (over £60k in 350 premium trim). I'd have preferred the quality i felt in the jag for the price, but i guess you can't have it all.
iPace “quality?” Jaguar stopped ordering them from Magna: Jaguar cannot afford warranty repair costs. I-pace is a dead duck. Jaguar’s goose is cooked😂
You can add one here in Belgium, I just ordered one, just only thé 5 seater with towbar, not thé 7 seater version tho
Eqb at 47-5= 42k€ in France since few days
The two extra seats in the back are obviously designed for kids in both cars, why is that even a discussion trying it with adults..??
The range of the EQB makes it a non-starter for many. It’s just embarrassing.
now factor in the cost! Lol Im buying range rover all day. NOW throw tesla into the mix and it crushes these specs. I don't see how these autos can pivot from ICE to EV without raising so much money and where is the talent coming from?
Loved it when we did the 48hr test drive. Only hold up is when I saw the Kia EV9 coming and Volvo Ex90! ❤
The EX90 is more of a competitor to a pinnacle trim EQE SUV though, not an EQB
@@ani_b Good point. However, I'm not sure it will have 7 seats though?
@@NeryAs3 unfortunately not on the EQE, but the EQS has a 7 seat option. The price will be a bit more of course, but it's a fantastic vehicle. I have an EQS and friends who own the SUV - they love it.
EX90 will be priced close to a Model X - big difference is price/size. Try a used Model X first.
Yes holding off for the ev9 which I think would be ground breaking for 7 seater evs
Pull the tab on the middle seat near the seat belt lock and the middle seat flops flown flat
Great video Richard, but both cars were at the back of the queue when it comes to looks!
You dizzy fam. EQB yeah, but Y?... naaaaaaa
Review the base model 250+
9:10 Jersey mentioned?!!!!!
Great Video.
Wish Tesla Model Y had 7-seater option in UK
Model Y and a used R class, proper 7 seater😂
Does look like a nice interior and packaging BUT it’s a £60k+ car (no Merc is bought without options!) that only has a real world range of about 200 miles. Couldn’t justify getting one on that basis and frighteningly it’s the cheapest 7-seater EV out there currently (not including the van derived ones).
I’d wait for a 7 seat option on the Model Y SR but who knows if and when that will arrive (if ever).
Definitely a much better 7- seater option compared to the Y
Looks really Spartan for a 60 grand car. Best regards Martin
Being a tesla owner I miss a decent interia an quality paint work guarantee. I'm sorry but just my experience.
My kids concern was ac on the third row and middle? Tesla has more ac?
And “AC” is actually a heat pump. AC is century-old tech.
Great review mate
More a 4.5 +2 😅
A video about time schedule charging / off peak would be great. I had a Merc EQA reserved until i discovered you can not set it to charge overnight for off peak only.
How many other EVs are the same.
So you can't charge either cars over night?
Are you sure about this? Even the very first Leaf had scheduled charging. This must be a mistake.
Model Y (7 seat) is used as a Bus in Munchkin Land!❤
And now comes the EV9 and owns this spot hands down. No competition for the Mercedes.
The equivalent for an EV driver using a fast charger is only marginally cheaper at £92.69
RAC purposely used most expensive chargers. Kids, can you say, “bias?”
Benz 💯% 🤩🤩🤩
The Merc is still a bit too small to be a real 7 seater but a good start. Strap release handles an after thought possibly ?
No, they are cheaper, occupy less space and lighter.
@@ContraVsGigi Big EV's suffer with efficiency so I guess Mercedes have made the car smaller but pushed the road wheels out to give more room inside. The Merc is most probably the cost effective alternative to the Tesla model X.
Evening mate an it looks good
It’s not a dedicated EV chassis!
The EQB is a massive compromise.
Frighteningly poor efficiency. No supercharger network.
Heavy as a Hulk!
Why on earth aren't we getting the 7 seater Model Y here in Europe? Such a shame
Aren't the back seats for the kids? The Tesla 7 seater is not actually functional, not even for kids I guess, but the Merc is fine.
Personally, talking about two vehicles in a video but only show and compliment the Mercedes is very odd and it appears bias toward one. Many people who did not watch your Model Y review will not know which one is best. Just something to consider.
But the Y is not available to Brits.
I want 2 rear seats for my border collies.. But dogs want the FRONT seats❤
Mercedes say the back seats are only good for passengers up to 1.65m.
Every time you say "real world drive" it sounds like you are saying "rear wheel drive" or vice versa. Got confused.
Good luck with the Mercedes user interface. We sold our as it was a complicated mess.
Hey Mercedes works perfectly.
Never had an issue with MBUX
Love ours
The two shortest people need to go in back
Lol of course the 6’8 guy goes to the back seat
The BenZ winZ
Doesn’t matter what you say german cars just can’t do electro. The range is ridiculous for a price like that
The EQB is way better looking & more styling though. The Tesla looks dated in comparsion
The trouble with most of you tests is you only have one person in the car on your range tests. Fill it with 7 people and do a range test.
Its not really fair as all are not designed for 7 adults. If it's a family then this or the MY would be fine for kids or teens in the back.
Mercedes infotainment not great- the car isn’t that efficient either - wouldn’t buy over a Y imo
Clearly states on the doors that the max size for the back seats is 5,4 but you put a "basket ball" player at the back.
Tesla every day
Model y looks like a jelly bean.
Honestly, no one is buying this, or a model Y with the intention of putting 7 adults in them. There are much better options out there for that.
Love Mercedes ❤
Efficiency was better than I was expecting but the design is soul destroyingly dull.
Mercedes has always been good
I must say amazing review. I heard mercedes has crappie seats and its depth.
Really like the Merc but the stated range is embarrassing so god knows how bad it is in real world usage !
He was calculating real world usage in the video, ~224 miles.
How much is the EQB COST? how much is the Model Y cost. Much much much cheaper. I won’t pay 3 times or even 4 times for extra bit of space
You should name it : The ugly sisters!
Not for £65k
Harris Amy Garcia Kenneth Robinson Edward
Just buy a 2nd hand model x
compared both. the moment you sit in a Tesla - I takt the Mercedes..... Sorry Tesla. Are you a plastic fetishist? The interior is an ultimate no go!
But the Mercedes look very old fashioned and boring a typical mercedes
Anything is more exciting looking than a Tesla.
Model y just west of money
How can you say 200 miles is a good range that’s ok if you just go to Tesco twice a week but in the real world it’s shite
Half the distance between London and edinburgh. 3-4 hours driving. Time when a normal human would stop for 40 minute wee and lunch break…
Or you need to find a Tesco which is closer to you… you sound the fool if that’s how far you drive to shop 🤷♂️
Mercedes is premium, tesla is not. No point to compare, different categories.
Yet Richard did a great comparison and many here have said they have cross shopped them. Go figure.
Long model names are so last decade 😂…. Mercedes Benz EQB 350 AMG XYZ 4Matic Blah
